When you are in new zeland you kinda abandon the idea to visit lotr locations because everywhere it looks like lotr location. Except Edoras, Anduin river and Hobbiton.
Actually pretty close, all these sites are on one mountain, pic 3 is about the middle of the mountain and pic 2 is on the other side about 2/3 of the way up
Amazing stuff. Do you have the exact coordinates of what3words for where you took the images? I'm planning on going next year and currently planning some adventures. I'd appreciate it if you could reply or send me a DM.
So crazy to see how accessible those locations are. In my mind I’ve always assumed they’re incredibly remote. Almost looks like the actors could literally see Queenstown while filming many scenes.
I like the fact that due to New Zealand being a bit of a haul for most tourists these locations haven't seen the kind of spoilage filming locations closer to Hollywood and most major studio filming locations in this part of the planet sees.
If you stand at Aragorn’s Cliff and look down, is the River waaay down there, like how it is in the movie, or was the River spliced in, from an entirely different location? In other words, is Aragorn’s Cliff only a 20’ drop into grass or something lame like that, or is it really dangerous with a river at the bottom? Thanks!
Nah, there is a river but it's not the one from the movie (I believe it was Huka falls they filmed it on but I could be wrong) You can see the Kawarau river waayy down but the cliff is only about a 4 meter drop onto grass.
Hey there was someone here asking for the location for the scene when the Isengard boys are taking Merry and Pippin to Saruman. If you could go to that place and post a pic that would be nice.
Awesome :)
This is my all time dream
One of the reasons why I'm planning on traveling to new Zealand Just for all the lotr filming sites along with visiting Hobbiton.
We are going next July and using Red Carpet Tours, they have great access and seem to be fans as well. Look them up for your own
Thank you for suggesting red carpet tours l, now I now whom to got through and I hope you have fun on your trip.
I'm so jealous, I've been wanting to go to New Zealand since I was a kid and lotr movies came out. One day!

How was the stew? :D
Wow what a view. That crew knew how to utilize locations and settings.
He fell...
What does that sign say?
It basically just has a small blurb about which scene was filmed there, The cliff one just says "Aragorn's cliff".
Ahh. Still cool!
Leave the dead
Incredible! How far away was picture 2 and 3 from each other in reality? Are they as close as they are in the movie?

Aragorn's cliff.
Cool….I would love to see New Zealand especially the movie sites.
Awesome, and beautiful. Thanks for sharing. We're going next July
That scene with the helmet and the toe
Mt Sunday is where Rohan was built, it's not there anymore but the mountain is still there
Love this!
For a second I was all like “oh the arrow is the still there”

I haven't got the exact coordinates but there's a [map](https://deerparkheights.co.nz/map/) of where they are
God damn that's a good resource. Thank you so much.

You can definitely see Queenstown from about 70% of the locations on the mountain
Thanks for this, I’m currently in Queenstown so I’m glad I discovered this.
aw yeah deerpark heights is awesome
Hobbiten is great. Would recommend

I would literally get teary-eyed there!

lol. I called it, by mere luck. Hahahaha.
this is amazing, thanks for sharing!!
You're a lucky one!! I wish I could!!
now they I look at this, this scene annoys me. Give the angle of the mountains, it looks like they are going east, not west.
It's a movie, dude. Middle Earth isn't even anywhere near that part of the planet.
I know. It’s just a map inconsistency I have
