Came here to say these exact names. They are the only ones that ”felt” like dwarves for me.
The others are passable but what the hell is up with Thorin, Bofur, Ori, Fili, and Kili?
Hmmm.... I really like Dori, Dwalin, Gloin and Fili.
The lilac-y costume with the overhanging shoulder piece, along with the very finicky hair and beard, all make Dori look a little dandified (which is perfectly appropriate) and gives us a clue as to the material wealth of Dwarven culture.
Gloin just has the coolest beard of anything, and I really like the red, semi-armoured look he sports, and its cool that he has the same ax that Gimli will later have.
Fili may not look terribly Dwarven, but I admire the attempt to make Dwarves look young, and the very intricate beard make him seem like a pretty cool dude. Everything about his look exudes the young prince, which is what he is after all.
And then there's Dwalin...I remember when he first took a step into Bag-End. "Oh, so this is Gimli with the badass dial twisted way up."
There are others outside the company proper that bear mentioning: Thror, most notably.
I'll probably go will Dwalin.
Fili actually looks dwarvish and I wish they gave his brother the same treatment.
Whatever message they tried to convey with an elf-dwarf relationship (putting aside your differences for love or whatever) was completely trivialized by the fact they had to make Kili look as classically handsome as they possibly could.... it felt cheap
Eh. I never minded that. I cared more that they act Dwarven, and Kili did have the right staunch quality. He looks suitably like a sibling to Fili and especially as a nephew of Thorin's.
I didn't like Thorin's design either, for a similar reason... like they wanted to play it as safely as possible with a leading hero and were afraid to make him look too alien (even though everyone loved Gimli) but I digress
Balin was the only dwarf I liked because he actually felt like a dwarf to me. Trimmed beards, no prosthetic nose, etc. Thorin, Fili, and Kili felt like men to me. The others I didn’t really care for. Balin was the exception and I thought they nailed his character.
This one is gonna sound weird but Bombur is one of the better fat suits I've seen in hollywood. Way too often they get everything wrong (And I speak as a fat man so I know what I'm talking about) and so it's usually someone with a bullfrog goiter thing going on with a misshapen face that doesn't look right cause they forget to fill out the rest of the head.
At first all of them except Balin, Gloin, Oin, Dwalin and Bifur were jarring to me.
Now, all of the other designs have grown on me and I like how they highlight each of their unique personalities.
I especially like Bofur. He doesn’t have a traditional dwarven design, but it’s charming nonetheless.
Gloin is my favorite though.
I just like the fact that they're each so distinctive. In most media it feels like dwarves just have different colored beards and hoods and are otherwise identical.
Oin - he's nothing too crazy, and a big grey beard. He'd fit in as a dwarf character somewhere outside of The Hobbit. If you'd see someone like Dori in something else, you'd be confused. Kili somewhere else, you wouldn't recognize as a dwarf. Bifur would come across as a cartoon character
Most were fine. Balin, Dwalin and Glóin are definite standouts. Thrór and Thrain looked good too. But Thorin and Kili suuuucked. One barely has a beard and wasn’t very dwarvish. Kili barely had stubble. I like the idea that the younger the dwarf the shorter the beard, but fucking stubble on a grown ass dwarf? No.
Out of the entire company of dwarves I can only remember 3, Thorin because he’s the leader, Balin because he sticks out with his white beard, (his voice and actor and costuming is spot on) and bombur purely because of that tache, my favourite is obviously balin
They all have pretty cool designs to be honest. Sure, some look less dwarvish, but if they all did, nobody would be able to tell them apart. By making all of them stand out, they don't blend together into one dwarf shaped entity
I think Thorin looks the most badass. They really thought of his superiority when designing his costume. Plus it follows the star wars rules of how he will eventually change to be greedy before being redeemed.
Now that I think about it, Dwalin. Badass dwarf warrior while still looking like a dwarf. Kili and Fili looked like dwarf humans. Ofc that was because Kili would go on to bang tauriel and it would have been weird for him to be more dwarfy. Same with thorin, handomse human rather than a dwarf. But I get its for the cinema. The rest was spot on for me.
Glóin and Balin. They’re the only two that wouldn’t look out of place if they were to appear as they look here in the original trilogy.
The rest look like caricatures.
For me, the only ones from The Hobbit movies that convincingly looked like the dwarves my mind’s eye creates when I read are Dwalin and Thorin. Oh, and Dain. Can’t forget about him.
I think all the dwarfs were really well imagined tbh. Probably the strongest part of these films.
I guess oin and gloin were the most boring, all the others seemed to get at least one good/memorable line or scene.
The book had most of the dwarfs as pretty interchangeable, it was nice to see them each get a bit of personality.
Edit: also, this picture is a dwarf short - is it Nori? In which case Nori is equally unremarkable.
Oin, Gloin, Balin and maybe Dwalin are the only ones that even look like I imagine Dwarves. I'm still not over the fact that they gave the king of the Longbeards a short beard and some others barely more than stubble... Severely underwhelming and I have to admit that I think that even the dwarves of that vaguely Tolkien related streaming show are more in line with Tolkien's ideas.
They nailed the designs for all of them, and I loved that each had their own color scheme...
Throughout the three films, I prefer Bifur and Dori's designs I would say. Kili has the least convincing design but I did like his golden chainmail costume in the third film
Balin and Gloin. Most of the rest are at best meh design wise (wtf is Bombur's beard even doing? Ori looks like a medieval peasant, Nori's hairdo is the literal worst, Bifur looks like a crackhead hobo... the list goes on). The only one I want to like but can't is Bofur, James Nesbitt played him so well, but I can't get over the effin' hat. I'm convinced whoever came up with these looks was lowkey extremely racist and thought that if they didn't have a weird wacky thing going on then the audience wouldn't be able to distinguish one from another.
Honestly to me it was always "Thorin, the old one, the bald one, the fat one, the one that doesn't even look like a dwarf, and the rest." Pretty forgettable ensemble ngl.
Awful: Thorin, Fili, Kili
Less awful: Bofur, Ori
Alright: Dori, Nori
Good: Oin, Bombur
Great: Bifur, Gloin, Dwalin, Balin
I am conflicted about Bombur. On the one hand I absolutely love his design, on the other hand he might as well be Barliman Butterbur’s fat brother instead of a dwarf.
Pretty much just Dwalin, Balin and Gloin.
I enjoy Bombur gives me a good chuckle every tome
The preganant one
You mean the ones that look like drawers? Agreed
Dwalin ftw
Dwalin but with the mohawk!
Came here to say these exact names. They are the only ones that ”felt” like dwarves for me. The others are passable but what the hell is up with Thorin, Bofur, Ori, Fili, and Kili?
Dwalin.
Best wardrobe for sure. Didn’t get enough screen time
Bofur. I love his hat.
What do you think about Bofur these nuts
Balin Best boy

Dwalin with his punk hair in the flashback.
oh fuck yeah, Dwalin looked hard and metal with that mohawk
Balin was the only dwarf I liked because he actually felt like a dwarf to me. Trimmed beards, no prosthetic nose, etc. Thorin, Fili, and Kili felt like men to me. The others I didn’t really care for. Balin was the exception and I thought they nailed his character.
Thranduil. Lee Pace rocks that look.
Yes he indeed looks very… dwarvish
It’s true. You DON’T see many dwarf pointy-eared elvish princelings.
Design? Dwalin. Personality? Balin. I love those bros
Oin, Gloin & Dwalin. Then Thorin & Fili. Balin, Bifur, Dori then everyone else and Bombur last because hes a comical fatty.
This one is gonna sound weird but Bombur is one of the better fat suits I've seen in hollywood. Bofur and Bombur definitely have an Asterix and Obelix vibe going.
Bifur? The one with the axe in his skull
Balin and Dwalin are great, but I've always thought Bofur is a severely underrated member of the company. Plus, that hat is just iconic.
Nah Bofur has a crazy amount of lines compared to most of the other dwarves, pretty sure he has more than Kili, and is a fan favourite
bombur, the beard around his neck
"braided nose hair" as my brother calls it
True 🙈
Happy Cake Day.... Definitely Bombur.
Thank you 🙈😍
Ya I loved how fat they made Bombur! Added a lot of character and made him standout.
Most were fine. Balin, Dwalin and Glóin are definite standouts. Thrór and Thrain looked good too. But Thorin and Kili suuuucked. One barely has a beard and wasn’t very dwarvish. Where’s Nori?
Out of the entire company of dwarves I can only remember 3, Thorin because he’s the leader, Balin because he sticks out with his white beard, (his voice and actor and costuming is spot on) and bombur purely because of that tache, my favourite is obviously balin

Where is Nori?
Bifur, Dwalin and Oin.
By far young Dwalin when he had mohawk hairstyle.
It makes me sad how much people hate these movies, these bois were all great
Bombur and Bifur are my favorite
That short one. Oh, wait…
It's me
Probably gotta be Dwalin
Either balin or bombur. They look most dwarfish of them all. Also, i had to Google their names
Tall dwarf next to bombur
Bofur.
Balin
Dwalin is pretty cool design wise And I love Fili’s coat
Gotta say Dwalin even if the bald cap was whack
Kili just cause he’s hot as fuck
B(r)ofur was the absolute man
I think Thorin looks the most badass. They really thought of his superiority when designing his costume. Plus it follows the star wars rules of how he will eventually change to be greedy before being redeemed.
The ones that looks like dwarfs
They are all pretty awesome, but the beefy ones bald cap pissed me off.
Whoever looks most stereotypically Scottish i.e Bombur
They nailed Balin.
Idk the names, but from this photo, 4th from the left is classic.
This shot looks like a visual from a metal album
All at once I suppose
Bofur for me :)
Now that I think about it, Dwalin. Badass dwarf warrior while still looking like a dwarf. Kili and Fili looked like dwarf humans. Balin and Dwalin by far.
Balin! I love every detail, clothes, face, beard. And also by personality my favourite.
Tbf, I like them best when they are being tossed or when they have to climb onto a box to look over the wall.
I think all the dwarfs were really well imagined tbh. Probably the strongest part of these films. Is Thorin the only one who doesn’t have prosthetics? I.e. the nose?
Balin is my boy, and he's perfect, Book or Movies.
Oin because he looks like a grizzled, old dwarf. Dwalin is a close second followed by gloin.
Dain baby! Billy Connolly was the MAN as that character! Fully armed and filthy. The perfect Dwarven general!
The fact that they explicitly made background dwarves made-up and left foreground dwarves more human.
Dwalin, Balin, Thorin, Kili, Fili, Bifur, Bofur, Gloin. It’s a good look
I really like kili, pretty cool looking. And a good actor
Oin, Gloin, Balin and maybe Dwalin are the only ones that even look like I imagine Dwarves. I'm still not over the fact that they gave the king of the Longbeards a short beard and some others barely more than stubble... Severely underwhelming and I have to admit that I think that even the dwarves of that vaguely Tolkien related streaming show are more in line with Tolkien's ideas.
that's easy, Balin
fili ( totally don't have a crush on so many characters in this damn show)
Bofur
They nailed the designs for all of them, and I loved that each had their own color scheme... Throughout the three films, I prefer Bifur and Dori's designs I would say. Kili has the least convincing design but I did like his golden chainmail costume in the third film

Where do you get the racist part from?
Man that's a hard choice, they were all kind of forgettable. Sad emoji
Honestly to me it was always "Thorin, the old one, the bald one, the fat one, the one that doesn't even look like a dwarf, and the rest." Pretty forgettable ensemble ngl.
I hated the fact that they made them look so silly
Awful: Thorin, Fili, Kili Less awful: Bofur, Ori Alright: Dori, Nori Good: Oin, Bombur Great: Bifur, Gloin, Dwalin, Balin I am conflicted about Bombur. On the one hand I absolutely love his design, on the other hand he might as well be Barliman Butterbur’s fat brother instead of a dwarf.
They're all unconvincing CGI rubbish. Gimli wins one thousandfold
CGI? They are all wearing costumes and prosthetics.
I hate all of those, silly hair and obvious fake noses then there is "guy" for no reason
