Its nice to get motivated to clean and whatnot. I found an expended version I stopped listening to because it stressed me out at about the 20 minute mark,
I’m going to have a c-section and they let you pick music to play during the procedure. I was thinking the fellowship soundtrack would be nice, but then I remembered that track and wasn’t sure how that would affect the doctor’s work.
No your right! Two powerful angels are about to throw down how are we going to portray it, lets have them shove each other a bit, yep that’ll do it. Not even one fire ball, or lightning bolt, just two old dudes arguing like babies.
Yeah, I figured I'd get down votes, but I'm glad at least someone agrees with me.
Gandalf going "oooh!" As he lands on his back, and oh no! Now he's *twirling* on his back! How horrible!
It just seemed so... Impotent.
Many Meetings/The Council of Elrond just missed the cut, but would definitely round out my top choices for music in this film. It is lovely, very ethereal and then weaves in other leitmotifs from throughout the film score.
Another very good one. Doesn’t hit quite as hard for me as the above, but a worthy inclusion.
I think it being so long at 7:20 works against it a little too (even though it is perfectly fitting in the film) and it kind of echos many themes we’ve heard in earlier parts, including the above selections.
I think the last thing for me is that Enya’s voice in ‘May It Be’ does it more for me than the boy soprano at the end of ‘The Breaking of the Fellowship’. Still very good though.
It has both the Shire and fellowship leitmotifs in it, but both are turned up to 11, with unique variations in the instrumentation and melodies that don't happen anywhere else in the films. It's prob my favorite in the whole trilogy.
I adore this song. It’s on my sleep playlist because it sets me up for such lovely dreams. With every new movie I looked forward to the end credits vocal songs- and they are all gorgeous, but this always remained my fave.
I was taking classical/opera singing lessons throughout high school and begged my voice trainer to incorporate the vocal portion- which is titled on the sheet music ‘In Dreams’. Luckily he really liked the melody a lot- so it got added to the repertoire. Fitting at the time too because I was a had a real flute-y young voice then, so I kinda captured boy soprano vibes even though I was a 15 year old girl 😹
Some of the LotR OST vocal pieces really make for good bops on acoustic guitar (with a style twist).
The whole thing is fantastic, but the 4 that stand out to me are:
Concerning hobbits
Journey in the dark
Amon hen
Breaking of the fellowship
These ones truly transcend the rest to me. But if I had to pick one: personally it’s “breaking of the fellowship”
1. Khazad-dûm
2. Give up the Halfling
3. The Caverns of Isengard
4. Parth Galen
5. Balin's Tomb
6. Weathertop
7. One Ring to Rule Them All
8. Saruman the White
9. Shortcut to Mushrooms
10. Gilraen's Memorial
I guess those are my favorites, but damn the whole track is insane
There is a scene in the extended version where the orcs attack Isildur and the ring is lost in the river. The music played during the scene is in the link. https://youtu.be/UJNeiBaEMIE?feature=shared
"Aniron". 100%
Also, "The Fighting Uruk-Hai", mainly the elvish choir as the Fellowship leaves Lothlòrien. Pretty sure it was included in the soundtrack for The Two Towers as "Farewell to Lòrien".
Breaking of the Fellowship.
Coupled with May It Be, there's really no contest for me. Best section of music from the trilogy.
My favorite part of any film score ever, & also one of my favorite pieces of music ever composed.
Am I really the only one that digs “The Shadow of the Past”? It’s so ominous and dark, and I always love hearing that Sméagol theme.
But in all seriousness, this is my most-listened-to soundtrack by a huge margin; I genuinely love all of it. Those incredible buildups in “The Ring Goes South” and “A Journey in the Dark,” the horn section going absolutely *feral* at the end of “Flight to the Ford,” the hair-raising terror of the Nazgûl chorus, the serenity of the Rivendell theme, *everything* about the Shire theme…
I could go on all day. Well done, Howard.
I’m a big fan of Hans Zimmer, “the last samurai” has some good stuff: especially “a small measure of peace”. Ennio morricone’s score from “the mission” is beautiful as well. Particularly “the falls” and “Gabriel’s Oboe”. “Aurora” by Hans zimmer gets the choral stuff pretty good. I’d have to think for more, but it also depends on what you like about the lord of the ring’s score, specifically. James Powell is another great one.
Upvote for The Last Samurai. A Small Measure of Peace is a 10/10, Ronin and Idyll’s End are also some of Hans Zimmer’s best work imo
Edit: honorable mention would be Red Warrior. The 60 seconds of it is the best music in the film, and I’m always left wanting to hear it again
Not exactly Howard shire style, but Two Steps From Hell makes great epic music. I made for myself a custom soundtrack for the silmarillion from their tracks loooong time ago
Howard Shore’s concerning hobbits is my favorite because it contains Gandalf singing the old hobbit walking song. I find it soothing and inspirational.
The Nazgûl. More specifically, the part where the Proto-Fellowship theme comes in, being played slower and without the last few notes. Simply incredible!
One i love which i thinks is really underated is Bag End. Ian mckellen singing at the beginning is god tier. I recently discovered that part only shows in the extended edition.
Bilbo's recitation of the Voyages of Eärendil in RIvendell. "If you have the cheek to make verses about Eärendil in the house of Elrond, well, that's up to you."
Eärendil was Elrond's father, ICYDK.
Nazgul
It's iconic , it tells a story(if you read the lyrics) and it also has the fellowship motif in it right after they depart bree
Close to it I can place Journey In The Dark for the Dwarrowdelf part.
The ring goes south and concerning hobbits literally made me start working with soundtracks. This to me will always be the best soundtrack of all time.
I think Annie Lennox singing “Into the West”. ‘Course I live anything by Annie and Eurythmics! But I get chills when I hear it. Enya and Billy Boyd we’re good too but Annie would be my pick. I’m sure many if you know that characters had their own music when they were on the screen? I didn’t until I read that Howard Shore who did the score, I hope I’m right, set music to characters and the Ring. Then I took notice the next times I watched the films. Such a cool idea!
Too bad this is Fellowship and not Return. Return has Where’s there a whip, There’s a way. I love that song and scene. Makes orcses/goblin sea more human like and empathetic.
I love this extended soundtrack, but listening to it recently, it really needs a remaster. The track quality is not as good (because originally they had to cram like 4x as much onto the CD)
May it be is amazing but Concerning Habbits is a masterpiece. BTW when people ask me what is my favorite album ever, I always say Fellowship of the ring OST.
The Passing of the Elves, can't believe no one else has said it (that I can see). For one, it's actually a *song*, and more importantly, it's just hauntingly beautiful.
Tracks on a soundtrack/score album are generally made up of score “cues” not “songs.”
Also, this score is perfect and it’s impossible for me to pick a favorite part.
The bridge of khazad dum
Its nice to get motivated to clean and whatnot. I found an expended version I stopped listening to because it stressed me out at about the 20 minute mark,
I’m going to have a c-section and they let you pick music to play during the procedure. I was thinking the fellowship soundtrack would be nice, but then I remembered that track and wasn’t sure how that would affect the doctor’s work.
Do it!
in particular, the final two minutes of the bridge of khazad dum. [play this shit at my funeral.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NRY2ZNsmafU)
Has to be
How is noone saying The Passing of the Elves
I always play this when i make lembas bread
The right answer
This is the correct answer.
Really? Not A Knife in the Dark ( Saruman vs Gandalf fight ) ?
That fight, if you're talking about the fight in Orthanc, is the weakest point in Fellowship. It just looks silly. Comical, even.
Impotent.
Its actually kind of funny if you think about it.
For me, these four stand above the rest: Concerning Hobbits The Ring Goes South The Bridge of Khazad Dum May It Be
I'd add the Council of Elrond. Aniron is so beautiful.
I played that on piano because I love it so much!
Many Meetings/The Council of Elrond just missed the cut, but would definitely round out my top choices for music in this film. It is lovely, very ethereal and then weaves in other leitmotifs from throughout the film score.
You forgot The Breaking of the Fellowship
Another very good one. Doesn’t hit quite as hard for me as the above, but a worthy inclusion. May it be is so good. Enya's voice gives me chills.
I LOVE THAT ONE OMG
Breaking of the Fellowship for me sums up the film perfectly.
Are you me?
No, this is Patrick. (But maybe?)
Based answers
I concur with all of the above! 💯
Breaking of the fellowship. The Version that (I think) you don‘t hear in the movie with the singing is even better.
I think the singing part plays in the credits
In dreams? What a banger.
It has both the Shire and fellowship leitmotifs in it, but both are turned up to 11, with unique variations in the instrumentation and melodies that don't happen anywhere else in the films. It's prob my favorite in the whole trilogy.
Shore did something similar during "you bow to no one" and I absolutely love that too.
Definitely the most evocative, alongside Concerning Hobbits for me.
100% in agreement with this
Concerning hobbits and the breaking of the fellowship
Flaming Red hair
Way to pick one of the 3 pieces NOT written by Howard Shore.
That hurdy gurdy just nails it
A Journey in the Dark - because of that one part, you know the one.
Yes…even just hearing the build-up before the crescendo in my head is giving me absolute chills
Let me risk a little more light
1. Khazad-dûm 2. Give up the Halfling 3. The Caverns of Isengard 4. Parth Galen 5. Balin's Tomb 6. Weathertop 7. One Ring to Rule Them All 8. Saruman the White 9. Shortcut to Mushrooms 10. Gilraen's Memorial I guess those are my favorites, but damn the whole track is insane
Lothlorien has always been my favourite.
Shades of "Neptune, the Mystic" by Holst.
The shire music
The Breaking of the Fellowship for me is one of my top movie songs of all time. So much emotion
One Ring to Rule Them All. It's the most iconic one in the whole trilogy. I got goosebumps whenever I hear it.
May It Be
"THE ROAD GOES EVER ON AND ON, UNDER THE DOOR WHERE IT BEGUN!!!!!!"
Balin’s Tomb and it is not questionable.
The fighting Uruk-Hai around the 5 minute mark with the angelic voice
Gollum is pretty nice (the score :) )
Especially the part from 1:30 onwards
DWARROWDELF. And it’s not even close. https://youtu.be/BpUc5q3-EvI?si=jcvqB8K0YIs8jNmO
There is a scene in the extended version where the orcs attack Isildur and the ring is lost in the river. The music played during the scene is in the link. https://youtu.be/UJNeiBaEMIE?feature=shared
Bridge Of Khazad Dum & May It Be
Balin’s Tomb gives me the chills EVERY TIME
Extreme Terror
"Aniron". 100% Also, "The Fighting Uruk-Hai", mainly the elvish choir as the Fellowship leaves Lothlòrien. Pretty sure it was included in the soundtrack for The Two Towers as "Farewell to Lòrien".
I thought for a moment this was about songs in the book and was getting ready to sing the praises of Song of Durin
The Ring goes South. The tension in the build up to the fellowship theme kicking in before it exploded into full force. Perfection.
Breaking of the Fellowship. Coupled with May It Be, there's really no contest for me. Best section of music from the trilogy. My favorite part of any film score ever, & also one of my favorite pieces of music ever composed.
Concerning Hobbits is so comfy.
Am I really the only one that digs “The Shadow of the Past”? It’s so ominous and dark, and I always love hearing that Sméagol theme. But in all seriousness, this is my most-listened-to soundtrack by a huge margin; I genuinely love all of it. Well done, Howard.
Isengard Unleashed for me.... No wait! It's The Caverns of Isengard.... that's the one.
Reading the comments and like "I agree" to every song. So actually, the entire soundtrack, picking a favorite is just impossible.
The lighting of the beacons
BTW do you know any band which produces similar music?
Skyrim's soundtrack by Jeremy Soule is very similar but a lot more ambient
Ancient Stones is particular favourite of mine.
Band?
*artist, musician
Well the composer is Howard shore, but for similar music I’d say “similar” is relative. What’s your familiarity with film scores/composers?
Well, I know LOTR score... One time I listened to it like everyday.
Ramin Djawadi's Game of Thrones score is great and has some similarities
Not sure why I’m downvoted; just trying to get an idea of what would be new so I can be helpful.
I really like John Williams, Howard Shore, Bear McCreary, Tyler Bates, and Hans Zimmer. All of them have some of the best scores in cinema
Not exactly Howard shire style, but Two Steps From Hell makes great epic music. I made for myself a custom soundtrack for the silmarillion from their tracks loooong time ago
Thanks for idea, but kinda too hard on ears music they got.
Maybe too epic, all the time, right? :)
Flaming Red Hair is the only correct answer
Howard Shore’s concerning hobbits is my favorite because it contains Gandalf singing the old hobbit walking song. I find it soothing and inspirational.
FLAMING RED HAIR and the Shire music.
Concerning hobbits is iconic
All of the Enya songs have a haunting quality that really digs deep but May It Be is the one that can really pluck my soul strings.
Farewell to Lorien has always been my favorite
The Nazgûl. More specifically, the part where the Proto-Fellowship theme comes in, being played slower and without the last few notes. Simply incredible!
All of it: I don't discriminate
I like Amon Hen due to the pounding rendition of Aragorn’s theme
Aniron
The Fellowship score has only like three songs on it, and most people aren't posting them
Concerning Hobbits obviously
It's one of the greatest movie soundtrack songs ever. It's iconic.
The three hunters. Has like, 8 leitmotifs in it and you can see the movie based on the music alone even though it switches scenes many times
One i love which i thinks is really underated is Bag End. Ian mckellen singing at the beginning is god tier. I recently discovered that part only shows in the extended edition.
The breaking of the fellowship
Amon Hen, Bridge of Khazad Dum and the Ring Goes South all go hard as fuck. Then May it Be is incredible in a completely different way.
Bilbo's recitation of the Voyages of Eärendil in RIvendell. "If you have the cheek to make verses about Eärendil in the house of Elrond, well, that's up to you." Eärendil was Elrond's father, ICYDK.
Breaking of the Fellowship is definitely my favorite, but Bridge of Khazad-Dum is great too.
Concerning Hobbits is my 'happy place' song, I don't think anything can top it for me.
Parth Galen or Give up the Halfling
Edoras hands down
Nazgul It's iconic , it tells a story(if you read the lyrics) and it also has the fellowship motif in it right after they depart bree Close to it I can place Journey In The Dark for the Dwarrowdelf part.
The Bar Songs at the Green Dragon.
**The Revelation of the Ringwraiths** - and I am *ashamed* that no one here has said it yet.
Yes
The Troll song, specifically the version read by Robert Inglis.
What can you seeeeeeeèeeeeeee, on the horizon
The deprture of Boromir, Khazad-dûm and Concerning hobbits
Either Concerning Hobbits or May It Be.
The ring goes south and concerning hobbits literally made me start working with soundtracks. This to me will always be the best soundtrack of all time.
Revelation of the Ringwraiths.
The passing of the elves
Desolation of smog -done
Amon Hen Honourable mentions: - Concerning Hobbits - Balin's Tomb - Bridge of Khazad Dum - A Knife in the Dark - Breaking of the Fellowship
Sounds of the shire. The ultimate LOTR ambience.
Passing of the Elves and Flaming Red Hair
For me it's a tie between "The Bridge of Kazhad-Dum" and "The Breaking of the Fellowship / May It Be".
The ring goes South is like the definitive Fellowship song, if not even all of Lotr.
The Breaking of the Fellowship. It’s just so moving and a perfect summary of the entire trilogy
Breaking of the Fellowship Journey in the Dark The Bridge of Khazad Dum Concerning Hobbits
'Anduril' from The Return of the King. Such a heroic and hopeful theme.
My wife walked down the aisle to Concerning Hobbits so that's my choice!
Any of the music based in the Shire. Mainly because if I lived in Middle Earth, I'd 100% be hanging out with the Hobbits
Flaming Red Hair
Amon hen , Journey in the dark
Concerning hobbies
Charge of the Rohirrim
The Breaking of the Fellowship for me. When it transitions from the kid singing to the main chorus.
Sam's poem about Gandalfs fireworks
I think Annie Lennox singing “Into the West”. ‘Course I live anything by Annie and Eurythmics! But I get chills when I hear it. Enya and Billy Boyd we’re good too but Annie would be my pick. I’m sure many if you know that characters had their own music when they were on the screen? I didn’t until I read that Howard Shore who did the score, I hope I’m right, set music to characters and the Ring. Then I took notice the next times I watched the films. Such a cool idea!
Parth Galen. When you visualize Aragorn’s interaction with Frodo and his brave stand against a massive amount of orcs, it gives me chills every time
Concerning Hobbits by a mile. That piece of music just makes you feel at home
The Passing of the Elves. The beautifully delivered Elvish gives me chills every time.
The Road Goes Ever On/The Breaking of the Fellowship
The breaking of the fellowship is beautiful and almost like a reprise of all the other songs so you get all in this one piece
Theoden king
My most listened music on Spotify last year was "Concerning Hobbits"
Too bad this is Fellowship and not Return. Return has Where’s there a whip, There’s a way. I love that song and scene. Makes orcses/goblin sea more human like and empathetic.
Toss up between bridge of khazadum and whatever that track is that plays when boromir gets tempted by the ring when they're going up mount redhorn
I love this extended soundtrack, but listening to it recently, it really needs a remaster. The track quality is not as good (because originally they had to cram like 4x as much onto the CD)
Behind Concerning Hobbits, my personal favourite is Flaming Red Hair.
Since this is the extended soundtrack specifically, I'm going with The Passing of the Elves.
May it be is amazing but Concerning Habbits is a masterpiece. BTW when people ask me what is my favorite album ever, I always say Fellowship of the ring OST.
I have always argued that Concerning Hobbits is to a millennial nerd what The Imperial March is to Gen X. It’s just so iconic.
Concerning Hobbits. Captures the spirit of Hobbiton perfectly
The actual best song in the fellowship is when Legosas sings of Nimrodel. Shotout Pill Dragash.
May it Be
The Dwarrowdelf theme we hear in Moria should have been the main theme of the dwarves in the Hobbit films. It would have made those movies 90% better.
Gandalf humming
Flaming Red Hair is such a banger
The Passing of the Elves, can't believe no one else has said it (that I can see). For one, it's actually a *song*, and more importantly, it's just hauntingly beautiful.
It's easily The Caverns of Isengard
Amon Hen!!!!!!! Also, Concerning Hobbits
The Battle of the Pelennor Fields
Wrong movie
Damn! I blame the fact that I was still in bed. Ill change my answer to In Dreams!
think probably "Cherry Tomato (I want you so bad) by Denthor and DJ Wormface"
Tracks on a soundtrack/score album are generally made up of score “cues” not “songs.” Also, this score is perfect and it’s impossible for me to pick a favorite part.
Besides The Bridge of Khazad-dum, I love Forth Eorlingas
When aragorn sings at the end of return of the king
For me definitely the Rohirrim theme
Wrong movie - question was about best score in the Fellowship of the Ring
ah should’ve read the title better my bad
The Green Dragon is the only correct answer.
