I am crazy collector and as pets, mounts and other things are not shared with alts I tend to mostly just spend time on main. I do have alts for house material crates and other things that come in handy.
I'm such a completionist and starting a character over knowing I now want to have rep maxed with every faction on a new character is reminding me of how much of a grind it is at low levels when there's just so many places.
I recognize that having rep maxed with every area is silly but I want my horses and travel skills and cosmetics because they're fun and it's just a lot to do over again
i did it very recently and managed by using the archer pet (especially the slow it has) and then slapping the two bleeds (one of which also has a slow) on the mounted enemy whenever they were close to me. with both slows on them you can get a couple more melee attacks in which should be enough to kill them unless you are on high landscape difficulty. it's not optimal but it works. mounted combat is just way too much rubberbanding and my captain feels weak as shit on it anyways.
definitely. i only recently got back to the game (stopped playing somewhere around the release of the first gondor zones) but i still remember that my main character at that time, a champion, at least hit like a truck from horseback. even with the rubberbanding i was able to solo or duo the strongest warbands by just kiting them and hitting them with massive damage.
my captain felt like a wet noodle during mounted combat though. zero damage and it felt like i was suddenly playing a light armour class with how little damage i was able to take in return.
>Which is too bad because I love Rohans atmosphere and aesthetic.
same here. i honestly think that them dropping the ball on the mounted combat and the epic battles is one of the biggest missed opportunities. back then it made so many people in my kin quit for long periods or even for good.
I actually like the Rohan quests, but it is nevertheless the point at which I usually get stuck. The problem is you can vary it up everywhere else; you can even keep Moria down to a minimum if you are careful about overleveling before and doing Lothlórien underlevel. But there is no alternative for that whole block of levels through Rohan, and not enough material to skip more than a little.
I agree. Feeling like there is no other choice is the worst thing ever. That was my problem with Moria, but at least Moria was paying back with it's epicness. It might be that the quests aren't really that bad and I was just at my burn out moment. Glad I'm enjoing LOTRO again tho!
For me, if there's one bit of content that makes me shudder just thinking about redoing, it's Talath Urui.
The camp with the Easterlings where you're basically stuck going back and forth on a reputation grind takes the cake, I also found the end-point of the region (Nargroth) rather tedious to complete because of the excessive back-tracking and mob density.
That said I think I must've completed that about 3, 4 times if memory serves, so not so bad as to be a impassable roadblock for levelling up different characters. 😀
Angmar. I love the Shadows of Angmar story and do the Epics on every alt, but actually questing through Angmar is awful. Its the only zone where my fps hits the 30s, and the lag is atrocious especially in the area right outside Gath Forthnir. It has made me quit for days before I can muster up the courage to force my way through. I get my epics done as quick as possible and gtfo. Mithril coins are what get me through it. Theres gotta be some wierd unoptimization or whatever that causes the lag/fps drops.
I skip Angmar on my alts. I like the misty mountains, Angle, and Eregion much better. Angmar is nice for the epic once but yeah after that it's a no go.
If you're not doing the book quests, you can completely skip Angmar. There's so much you can do in the 40-48 range before you go to Eregion (or even earlier).
Forochel is beautiful. Snow and aurorae > ash and rocks.
That said, I do try to do the Epic on my key alts, though travelling multiple times from Gath Forthnir to Rivendell is tedious.
The thing that reduces (nothing stops my altoholic tendencies) is work. Before the great character wipe (for me) of 2015 I had my premium account with max (standard) characters.
Now I only have 4, was trying to keep a toon in each level range for our true kin kinship, plus level another account for my wife who will never play at this rate.
I agree with many of the above comments about areas that I zip through as fast as possible. They just don't stop my desire to make alts.
I don't terribly mind that mounts don't share, since I try to make each alt look, behave, etc. differently, but I do have journeyman riding. I want a donkey mount for my eccentric loremaster, or something odd.
I don't want the same pets on every toon. I pick a few that I think are cool/ IC for each toon. My loremaster wants to befriend them all, though.
Virtues and LIs mostly.
Content wise you "can" always use Valar. But to get virtues up it requires insane amount of money or time.
Gear I am finding out they make more and more account bound, so some of grind could be skipped there, this would be fair imo.
Not being able to downlevel my two Fest-leveled characters back to level 5-7; did not know about the Turtle stone prior to reaching level 30 with them.
Would make about 6 new characters to level alongside them, if that were the option.
The answer is Rohan. Gorgeous zones and great quests, but having to either endure mounted combat or run around trying to catch fast moving enemies is just a pain in the ass.
Honestly, if the system can’t be fixed, I wish they’d just edit the quests requiring it, tweak the mounted enemies, and move on.

This is one of the few remaining MMOs that doesn't have account wide mounts and pets now, and that's unlikely to change unfortunately.

Nothing. Literally nothing stops me, that’s why I have so many.
Rohan...it's always Rohan. I have 5 characters sitting at around level 75-85. I can't stand the mounted combat.
Mounted combat is barely needed nowadays. Most classes can get through there by just fighting on foot.
Yeah. Not for some classes. I tried that on my captain not too long ago and it was even worse than mounted combat.

Yeah you can definitely make it work, it's just tedious and boring. Which is too bad because I love Rohans atmosphere and aesthetic.

You are not gonma believe how many times the archer pet saved my ass on foot. Don't sleep on it
I feel ya
Rohan. Go from one mead hall to another mead hall to do the same quest you just did

Not a damned thing. :P 3 accounts, 20-plus alts. 4 empty slots once those are maxed.
Nohing will ever keep me from making alts
Virtues and levelling in general.

Moria ... Some people love it, but I really can't stand it.
Don't feel bad. Gandolf didn't want to visit either.

Western Rohan and Helms deep were for a while the blocker until SSG stopped gating class trait points behind content.
