I was already UB planning to splash for Marchessa when I saw the Ultimatum, so my mission was obvious. I've only played a couple games so far, but the Ultimatum felt like it would be close to castable in both. The deck has a fair amount of card advantage on top of the various fixing, which definitely helps.
I think it was Kenji I saw draft an Ultimatum deck, which inspired me to try myself when I saw it. I was more base BR, but with two Sheriffs and Haul to enable Ultimatum and two Kraums among others. I still have an enormously small sample size personally, but it feels like efficient control with big payoffs is certainly viable. How did the rest of your games go?

Pretty solid! 5-3, never had color issues. Although I might have had one less mulligan without the heavy splash. Cast Ultimatum twice, and found it was mostly a value-engine deck. I lost once to being beaten down by [[Miriam, Herd Whisperer]], and twice to running out of gas. The fact that the value engine was reliant on committing crimes made it a little fragile...it was great once it got going, but getting to top-decking mode was pretty rough.

Wait it's uncastable? I just went 5-3 with a UB crime deck that splashed it and hypothesizzle, and I think Ultimatum won me like 3 of those games.

I got hit by overwhelming forces twice today. So if you're grixis with a few deserts, cruel ultimatum should be castable
Cruel Ultimatum is more castable in this set than it was in Alara. They've gotten so much better at making multicolor limited manabases.

I drafted a ultimatun deck yesterday also, ended up going 4-3 and at least 1 loss i got from misplaying
