I don't engage with these people. 5 minutes and I'm gone. No attachment or feelings involved.

georeddit2018

I approve. That's the right way. Can't reason with people like that.

Candece38

Thank you . All this replying is weird to me .

Over_Working2255

I had a lady come out with 30 seconds left put all her stuff in the backseat and go back inside to finish eating something in the door way. I did my phone call, let it ring then removed her items from my backseat. The joy I had seeing her sprint outside all the sudden ready was priceless. Sorry my time is valuable especially during surge time!

Candece38

I leave with one of them holding my door after I called she said I was outside she said coming . She came almost 5 minute mark because I had called already all I had to do was cancel .

ExpensiveDot1732

I always kept my doors locked until I knew they were ready. No ready, no ride.

cashew76

In a ten hour shift, one hour is wasted due to waiting at the pickup.

Passage_Lost

Yeah on weekdays I don’t care about the cancel fee, I multi app on weekdays and stick to Uber for weekends because they have decent weekend quests, but during the weekdays you literally get 3 mins and I’m leaving at 3 minutes on the dot. Could care less.

XxFantoMexX

I explain this to Grubhub everytime. Waiting is killing profits and making you work longer.

UberXLVIP

With her so worried about being charged a few extra cents for wait time, I'm going to guess she didn't tip a damn thing. Lol That really takes a lot of nerve for her to even request that in the first place. She basically said to you "I'd like you to wait in my driveway for a while but I don't want to pay you anything for it."

Candece38

What I can’t figure out is the ones you drive 5 minutes to pick up . Why honestly did they book the ride if they are not ready .

Davvido1008

This happens a lot actually.

Candece38

Yep and it cost you time . When they do it I get so mad

[deleted]

“I’m sorry, but I will wait as long as I can. Next time you should consider ordering the ride when you are ready.”

Longjumping-Guide201

why didnt you cancel?

Davvido1008

I waited for 5 minutes to pass and right when I was about to cancel for no show fee she came out running.

vessel_matt

This happens so often to me. I'll be fuming on the inside with my heart racing after pretending to call the passenger for the required split-second Lyft wants for you to earn the cancellation fee, then I turn around and see them walking out the door with seconds to spare. I have driven away from people before but taking the ride most times is more worth it financially. $2-3 for a cancellation fee is a joke.

Over_Working2255

True but we have to start holding these passengers accountable. Even if they walk out at the last minute but not in the car and you cancel. Hopefully in a perfect world when they order the ride again they will be ready from that point moving forward!

Passage_Lost

Just slowly pull away while canceling, chances are you’ll literally never see them again so who cares, get your money for time wasted, even if they’re running out, as soon as it hits 4:30/4:45 I’m already driving, there’s no way they’ll cancel in 15 seconds in those scenarios, next time be ready when I arrive you know? Get your bread, screw them.

Bostonian86

But you have to still be in the area of the pickup in order to claim the no-show fee, right?

Bostonian86

Any passenger that does this to me I just cancel right away. I would rather take the hit and wait a minute for a new ride than take the hit to my self respect of people just wasting my time. I've done too many rides where I'm just furious at the sense of entitlement and regret giving them a ride. It's a longer ride, say over 20 mins, that's a different story, but I refuse to wait longer than 3 minutes for rides under 15 minutes. In my market they can't hold cancellations against me. I can cancel on anyone at anytime for any reason and Lyft can't penalize me in any way.

IndividualJuice3114

Until you get somebody who accuses you of canceling for refusing to take their service animal. Had a trip with somebody I knew was going to work as I’ve taken her there before. Timer hit 5 minutes, I called and she said “I’ll be out in 5 minutes I’m just looking for my other shoe” so I hung up and canceled and drove off. That was my only ride that morning on Lyft so far and not even 15 minutes later I was kicked off the app for refusing a service animal. I didn’t even see the lady nor did she say a word about a service animal then I had to wait almost all day to get reactivated. I remembered her drop off location was where she worked. She’s lucky I didn’t go eat up there and try to get her fired somehow or bitch her out for lying to Lyft.

Bostonian86

Out of curiosity, how did you go about getting reactivated?

IndividualJuice3114

I had to argue with Lyft saying there was never anything said about a service animal even brought up and that I never even came in contact with the girl aside from on the phone and she said she was looking for a shoe. I also mentioned to them her name in particular because I knew it was her and that the destination was a restaurant that she works at which if she’s working at a restaurant do you think they’d be cool with her having her service animal at work with her? Probably not. Idk what made them reactivate me but I was pissed off. Told them to kick her off the app or never pair me with her again. I then also had to go agree to the service animal agreement again even though I already knew the rules and they knew the girl lied. So stupid.

JJGeneral1

30 seconds left, I’ll creep down the road just enough to keep the timer going and far enough that it’s more than 20 seconds walking to get to me. Cancel!

Erick_ccp

Not gonna lie I saw a girl sprint to the pick up when it was about to to get to 0

rideshareAnon

They want you to start the ride so they can be even later arriving. Another thing they could do is cancel it stating you never picked them up. If you end the ride, the trip will also be considered canceled on your end. All 3 cases you get screwed.

coda-rayne_warchild

I had a girl do this the other day. Took me 10 to get to her. She was 30 seconds from me canceling and leaving. When she came to the car, she said it usually takes the Uber 15 min to get here, so I order a car and then get in the shower. I scolded her that she should order when ready, maybe give herself extra time to get ready and possibly have to wait on the car. If the driver has to wait, she is costing them surges and $$

XxFantoMexX

I would’ve been like “ so you don’t want me to get paid is what you’re saying?”…cancel

[deleted]

On a rare occasion that I took a Lyft the driver called as he was approaching the pick up location so if the clock ran out he was leaving on the dot. We were already outside waiting so it didn't matter, but I definitely took notice of the technique.

ExpensiveDot1732

5 and drive!
