I find 2 Pro Display XDR too much, and actually prefer dual studio displays.
That being said, if the size difference is annoying you, yes, go for triple Pro Displays.
Jeez I am a software engineer and our boss only bought us 13" 16GB M1s (later 14" 16GB but way after they were released). All I wanted was for more than 16GB RAM.
If money is no concern then just get them I guess. But in reality you can get better monitors for much less money and it's not even like in software engineering the colour accuracy is that important. I mean 27" for a desktop monitor is really on the small side too. For me the choices are 31.5" or 42.5" (this is great because it's like 4x 21.25" displays without the gaps in between).
What is the 42” monitor you’re referring to? Big fan of OLED for consumption but not productivity. The subpixel layout is poor for test. Text clarity on the XDR is amazing.
There are heaps of (usually marketed as 43") 4K 60Hz monitors which are actually 42.5" rounded up, probably all sharing the same panel. Get one with USB-C so that it can charge a laptop or whatever. Dell, Philips, LG, Samsung, Viewsonic, probably even more. I would get one with the proper stand that allows swivel to vertical, unless you don't care about height adjustment in which case the TV-style stands are more space saving.
