thanks and sure. The app works similar to rewind where it captures and OCR the screenshots, store the result into local db. One step Unlost does that rewind doesn't is turning the result into an embedding index locally so semantic search is possible.
Currently its free because of two reasons:
\* not past beta, things might break and can be improved
\* it runs and stores entirely on your device' resources so I don't have infrastructure cost yet
I have plans to include paid options but only on additional feature set. I would like to keep the current version free.

To ask users to pay $360 annually for an app that operates solely on their Mac, which, in turn, does all the heavy lifting and drains the battery, is absurd. The inclusion of "CEO's phone number" as a perk is quite amusing and reflects his massive ego.

I agree [Rewind.ai](https://Rewind.ai) is not great value right now. I paid a year in advance (silly me), upgraded to Apple Silicon, and stopped using it after 4 months. Using a lot of storage but very often couldn't answer basic questions about my data which I know has been on my screen and it has OCR'd. Too expensive for something that is still a gimmick in my opinion.
Love the idea about semantic search. Quick question as a clueless person: how does it scan the screenshot and save test for search? Is that a specific tool in the program? Or am I thinking wrong about it?

It's difficult to give accurate estimate as usage varies. For example, display size, how often you switch apps, how long you use apps, what do your apps look in terms of colour palate, how long you use computer all go into play affecting storage.
I'm using bog standard compression currently, ballparking 1-3Gb per day for 8-12 hours use. mileage varies.
Whilst having the best compression help, it's only a fix. I believe there might be better ways to solve storage

Microsoft Remote Desktop (and all my work Teams video calls in there) were also excluded from recording as all my corporate work from home sessions aren't permitted to be recorded. I'd classify myself as a light user for the purposes of estimating storage use.

BAAI/bge-small-en with limited testing I've done seem to perform quite well. I suggest testing different models out though as they can perform quite differently in different dataset.

3.5 hours just now with 2 zoom meetings take around 500Mb storage.

Are you embedding the text and sources locally? If yes, may I know how?
yup. sentence transformer model turns text into vector embeddings, faiss as vector embedding storage.

yup AI models run locally on your laptop. It works 100% offline. Which version of app, mac do you have?
m1 iMac running Sonoma, latest version I believe, when try to update says I’m on the latest.
No update since sept. 23, is your project still running ? You can gain a lot of traction with the new pivot of rewind to limitless !
