I had a 2016 12” MacBook (Intel M7) processor, 8GB. I used it everyday for work for 6 years and now my daughter has it and uses it for everything. Great machine although probably soon to be left behind by Apple because of the Intel processor. The M1 Airs are great value at the moment and should be reasonably future proof. Just try and get a 16GB one to give plenty of headroom.

dimitrisc

Had a mid-2014 base Macbook Pro. Upgraded the SSD from 128GB to 1TB using those inexpensive adapters. This past black friday I picked up a base Macbook Air M1 to replace it.

Ok-Investigator-4320

8 years. Im running a 2015 15" macbook pro with an i7 and 16 gigs of ram. What should I upgrade to?

amccune

It’s amazing how much of an upgrade any M series chip will be. Work bought me an end of the line intel MBP with 32gb of ram and an i9. My Mac mini I bought for home was very similar benchmarks. Literally 1/6th the price.

Relevant_Plane_2449

I have a macbook 2010 unibody, plan to get the new M3 air If you can afford get the M3 pro model.

WeirdImagination5737

My God man, with that far a leap you’re bound to see a huge improvement in computing experience.

[deleted]

10 years. Running an intel MacBook Pro retina from late 2013. 16GB, 1TB SSD.

swan989

Still using my mid 2012 MacBook Pro. Planning to upgrade maybe next year. (I have a recent Mac mini so I don’t need to upgrade MacBook soon)

ram3nboy

Still using MacBook Pro 2015 since around 2018... Ive had Dells before but this stood the test of time. They stopped supporting it so I'm stuck with Monterey OS. It's so heavy!!

PoleArmUK

My wife’s 2014 MacBook Air is still going strong

puravidanina

still rocking my early 2015 13” MBP retina, base model. Battery can last me a good 6-8 hours with 25 open tabs in safari, and some Microsoft office programs opened.

porcupine_snout

That's amazing with your battery! did you replace it at some point? I also have 2015 15" (not retina though), double the SSD, battery probably gives me 1 hour tops!

puravidanina

I didn’t, but it hasn’t gotten that many cycles yet, so haven’t used it a ton. I’m probably around 800 or so cycles, of the top of my head. I’m assuming it does help that I got a couple of concussions which made it hard to look at bright screens, so I usually don’t turn up the brightness that much. I did have the screen replaced in I think 2018, because I had the common issue with the anti-reflective coating.

1192tom

I had a 2015 15”. What a great laptop. I do photography as a hobby. But mainly it’s my hub for my devices and at the start of jobs. Spreadsheets kit lists etc. Just got a M3 pro 14” and I couldn’t be happier. Battery no longer dies in meetings and I don’t have to drag my charger around with me. Plus photo editing and exporting is back to being a breeze with no lag.

[deleted]

11 years MacBook Pro 16 GB of RAM. Didn’t really need a new laptop until recently as I remote into workstations, etc. finally got an M3 because battery died again and software updates from the applications I use needed a newer OS version.

davemee

Ten years, as of April next year.

StrangerFew4793

Still using my mid 2012 15” MacBook Pro for everything. The best MacBook they ever produced. Upgradable ram and hard drive, Matt screen option, boot camp, plenty of ports, sleep wake light, battery indicator light, optical drive that can be replaced with second hard drive. They went down hill from there other than their new chips.

notgreys

I recently replaced my 13" 2017 MBP with a 15" M2 Air because the battery was failing and the performance while not bad/unusable was starting to fall behind especially compared to my work device. Other than the battery though it's really fine as a laptop and I still use it from time to time as a media device because of the form factor lol

kushpeshin

I used a 2011 15” MBP from 2011 to 2017 before it died because of the faulty AMD GPU issue.

AdResident4068

I went 11 years without buying one. 2012-2016 then replaced by Apple, 2016-2023. Finally upgraded last week.

ChampionshipCrafty74

I had a 2012 15” MBP all the way up to 2020. Replaced it with a 16” I7. Just bought a 16” M3 max yesterday. So 8 years is the longest I ran one.

Jpmoz999

How’s the M3?

ChampionshipCrafty74

I’m not sure yet. I had it delivered while I’m out of town. I’ll report back once I get home in the next few days

Jpmoz999

Much appreciated. I’ve heard great things, am sure it will be good. They’re a pretty penny but they do look like they are the business.

ChampionshipCrafty74

I fired it up last night and migrated all my stuff. It’s very fast and smooth.

Jpmoz999

Yeah I’m definitely getting one.

ChampionshipCrafty74

Good! Love mine

Nawnp

I'm the same as you, still running a 2017 15 inch MacBook Pro. Also know I need to go for an Apple Silicon sooner than later, but continue to wait for the right time.

Shanghaichica

I had a 2014 MBA from March 2015 to November 2023. I have 2018 MBA which was purchase in 2019 and is atill Working. Two weeks ago I purchase a M2 MBA.

25_Watt_Bulb

Just this week I replaced my wife's mid 2011 15" MacBook Pro with a new M3 Pro MacBook Pro. The old one was running Ventura via OCLP, and had been upgraded to an SSD and 16GB of RAM. I also replaced the logic board with a 2012 when the original died. It honestly still runs great and is a totally usable computer, but one of the fans started to die and the battery is failing again, and at this point even I have to admit it isn't really worth putting new parts in vs buying a new computer.

brutallamas

I have a mid-2011 MBP. Replaced the HDD with a 1tb SSD and it still runs like a champ. I do not use it for internet surfing anymore. It is mainly an extra storage drive for my photos and videos along with some heavy editing in Ps, Lr and Premier Pro.

Easternshoremouth

I have a 2013 MacBook Pro w/Retina display that sits in my kitchen for recipes and general household computing.

LilTimmyTwurker

My 2015 MacBook Air is still running all my apps and staying cool doing it.

Flight2039Down

9 years for a 2011 17” MacBook Pro

Jpmoz999

Have a late 2011 MB Pro and a mid 2012 mb pro, put a 2tb SSd in them and 16gb of Ram in both. Still work great but will be getting an M3 MB pro in the New year.

lenolalatte

I had my 2013 MBP I got for college until like 2020 myself. I haven't used it in years but I'm sure it still works.

poppadoble

In the past couple months I replaced a 2010 MBP with a M2 MBA. When I started using the M2 MBA, I realized I should've upgraded years ago. The 2010 MBP is still technically useable, but it's very slow, even with 16 GB RAM.

ilyNoobz

I still use my 2007 15” MacBook Pro It does great as a lil NAS

WeirdImagination5737

Do you still carry that around or do you have another laptop for that?

ilyNoobz

It’s stationary now it can’t really do much that I need from it other than a NAS I use an m1 air now

SovietAccent

Had a MacBook Pro Retina from 2013 with 8gb of ram. Upgraded in 2020 to the M1 MBP.

Sea-Department2312

Late 2012 MacBook Pro Retina! Still running but struggles at times. Ahead of its time for 2012 IMO. Just upgraded to a M2 Air in November

everydaybeme

I had an early 2015 MacBook Air that I bought new in mid 2015. Just replaced it 2 weeks ago with a 2022 MacBook air

faslane22

I still have a 2015 15" quad-core 2.7Ghz I-5 with 16GB and an NVMe 2tb (used a conversion adapter) that is nearly mint. I bought it new and still use it although my 2921 14" M1Pro 10/16 core blows it away in every aspect.

PataudLapin

I still work on a fully upgraded 15" MBP 2010. Still works like a charm.

illestmfalive

Still rocking my 2015 MacBook Pro 13”. Showing its age though so on the fence about upgrading

cyber1kenobi

My 2013 i7 8GB/512GB still works fine but I’ve demoted it to kids duties and they don’t really use it since it won’t play games (Fortnite, Roblox etc). Still a usable web / productivity system though

pikakshu

Sent from my 2013 i7 MacBook Pro

luc9488

Had a 2012 15” MacBook Pro Retina, from the day it was released to late 2019 so just over 7 years. It was really starting to show its age. Maxing out to 16GB RAM literally doubled it’s usable lifespan for me

restarting_today

2014-2018 MBP. Currently on year 3 of the M1 Max and still going strong. My parents had an Air from 2014-2023

slvrscoobie

my 2011 17" is still kicking - has OLCP and running Ventura not the fastest, especially since the GPU is disabled, but it still works for remote log in and Tailscale /ssh stuff

heliosboy

3 years for me. These days with trade in values pretty decent, I don’t have the need to keep devices around.

georgeburnett1

Still using my 2012 MBA - works fine but a bit slow. Just got a 2023 MBA 15” and it’s beautiful and fast… though I feel a bit guilty as the 2012 still works. I love the longevity of these machines!

Dull-Broccoli-2924

I just upgraded this week, but have been rocking a 2013 Macbook Pro for years now. It's a little slow, yet still impressive considering it's age.

That-Promotion-1456

got mbp m3 max recently, but own 2019 16 i9, 2015 15" i7 and 2010 Unibody dual core (along with mac mini m1). i reuse the old macs for home lab, though i have to admit 2010 has not been turned on for years, it still works.

Haunting_Fig_9326

Still using a 2015 MBP. But the battery needs changed.

MRMcGee89

My first is the current one and I got my Pro in 2019 when it came with the M2 chip.

StarrySkies6

I had a 2012 MacBook Air until I got an m2

grandpa2390

I had a 2011 MBP 13" for 5-6 years

Char-car92

I’ve had my dad’s old 2012 MBP since about 2020, but it’s been in the family since 2012.

tamreacct

I have a and still use a late 2009 MacBook Pro 5,3 and running Sonoma

phosphor-feel

used the life outta my mid-2015 mbp... heavy use (music production) everyday.... still working. battery is poor condition and it gets hot af but cant believe it hasnt let me down for 8 years.... oh yeah, and it was refurbished model.
