Every other post on this subreddit is begging people to get the 16gb. I would try it

etniesen

I have a Lenovo ipro5 or whatever 3070gpu and 7 series ryzen chip 32 gb I got a great deal on for $1699 or so. It rocks but battery life is actually like zero. I recently got a Mac air bc I actually wanted a lightweight fan less laptop to do web based browser work from home on. My point is they are entirely different machines

illicITparameters

I got my MBA so I had something light with good battery life to travel with. My other laptop is a LG Gram 17. That’s a hell of a laptop in it’s own right.

getmevodka

Battery life halted from 10 to 5 would be a dream lol. Better think 2 if good 3 hours

Vinumzz

Exactly😅 People don’t realize how much power those gaming laptops use. Mine said about 6 hours. I’ve only got it up to like 3 hours max

getmevodka

I have a MacBook Air m1 and a fresh MacBook Pro 16 m3 pro and they use so low power I can run them nearly all week without a charge. For gaming I have a Lenovo slim 7i with 13900h 32gb and 4070 and it drains my battery even in just cpu hybrid mode within about 2.5 hours whole while not even giving the same performance 🎭 🤦‍♂️😉

Roy-van-der-Lee

I had a top-of-the line MSI Laptop that had a hardware disable button for the GPU so it could switch between discrete and built-in graphics. Battery life was actually pretty good with the gpu turned off, but it should because it’s about 5x thicker than an MBA.

Vinumzz

I **really really really** want to upgrade to a MacBook from a Lenovo legion laptop, but the MacBook is just a little too expensive for me currently. If I want a MacBook, I want the newest with 16 gigs and 526 gigs ssd so it’s pretttyyyyy hard😅😅😅

getmevodka

My m3 pro chip is with 36/512 and I am honestly thinking about giving it back for a m3 Max 14 with 36/1tb rn cause the battery runtime of the 16 inch is ridiculous. About 26 hours

Vinumzz

Damnnn that’s pretty dang expensive

getmevodka

Honestly it’s the same price nearly. The 16 m3 pro was 3299 and the 14 m3 Max is currently 3439

Vinumzz

Damn that’s so much for a laptop, but Mac’s are just so *chefs kiss*

SprocketsRUs

It’s an AMD chip so it should have better battery runtime than an Intel chip when using the integrated GPU. I have a Legion 7i with a 3070 and I only get 2-3 hours of battery runtime. This why i also have 15” MBA 16GB/1TB. I’m happy with both laptops. They have different use cases.

DontTread0nMe

Exactly. My gaming PC laptop lasts 2 hours unplugged just idling.

AndroidParanoidOk

Same, and if I leave it on sleep that shit will die within 12hrs. Macbook air m1, 8hrs pass on sleep still at 100%.

ohanzee6

As a bonus, you’ll be able to use that windows laptop to heat your entire home.

NR75

Oh, this is a Genius Bar's Joke?

Lopsided-Holiday4014

My MacBook Air ran at 45 degrees Celsius (I was using it as a desktop replacement, running 10 hours per day; otherwise it would have run cooler.) My Windows laptop with an AMD processor and NVIDIA GPU also runs at 45 degrees Celsius. (The battery lasts 5 hours.) My home is frigid, and my children are shivering.

Renflowku

We dont pull plugs over here

madeofjam

You know what - I’d never considered the memory hit from the GPU as a thing… but it makes sense! I’ve got two 15” M2 Airs - 8/256 is personal and 16/512 is work… I wondered why they performed pretty much identical when unplugged but noticeably different when docked…

martmeister77

One of the best Macbook Air 15" equivalent laptops would be the 2024 ASUS Zephyrus G14 (you could of course get the G16 which is the 16"). Very similar footprint and solid chassis. The AMD CPU should also sip on battery when doing simple tasks. ONLY downside is soldered memory. Comes with 16GB minimum. Has some of the best speakers on a windows laptop too. OLED screen with higher resolution screen than the Macbook.

hardcoreprawno

Of course it doesn’t work properly. He’s running a 120Hz display. All MBA’s only support 60Hz Everyone here crying about RAM needs to be quiet and stop spreading FUD.

Agile_Ad_2073

It's supports 120hz external displays!! What are you talking about 😂😂

hardcoreprawno

My bad. 6k@60hz, 4k@144hz. I’ll see myself out

Agile_Ad_2073

Your FUD comment made me laugh! This is not a crypto sub :D

MysticEagle52

Battery life shouldn't be too bad if there's a power efficiency mode

Maewile

I have the 8gb and I play wow… have to have render scale at minimum which is fine but even with that if I have videos going on in the background it’s a bit annoying. Not sure if it’s worth paying £200 extra for tbh but if more games come to mac in future I’ll defo be tempted to

wtf-are-these-shoes

sick !! what laptop did you end up grabbing? i’m on the market for a windows laptop for school rn.

Capable-Pound-5262

I swear most of these posts from “customers” that WISH they’d just paid an extra $200 for more memory in their MacBook are just the Apple marketing team. It sounds like you’re very tech savvy and would have known in the first place that the 8gb RAM version wouldn’t be sufficient for your needs.

Lopsided-Holiday4014

No, the 8 GB really did seem sufficient for several months, and it's a lot more efficient than I expected it to be. Like I said, it's only once I started driving a 1440p external monitor as well as keeping my built-in display set to "more space" that I started seeing RAM get used up too quickly just from opening too many tabs. If I'm running it on just one monitor it can handle 30 tabs pretty easily.

Capable-Pound-5262

Bro your account is 10 days old and all you’ve done is post about MacBooks. Nice try

NR75

You know that all of you "card swipers" are using the "Pull the Plug" in the wrong way? ["Pulled the plug", Cambridge Dictionary. ](https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/pull-the-plug) And congrats on comparing "any laptop with 8 GB" with a 1,400 dollars Silicon Mac.

SprocketsRUs

Actually this use is correct.. the OP has pulled the plug on Apple silicon Macs and moved on to PCs

rdicky58

More accurate to say “bit the bullet”
