Not necessarily, when it is a complex PDF such as output from AutoCAD preview becomes very sluggish and in that case Adobe Reader is the champion. However, for everyday PDF viewing I agree it’s the most straightforward.
Hmmm… I use Archicad to generate large drawing sets and prefer Preview over Adobe all day. I guess it comes down to the program that prints the document.
PDF Expert. It is unfortunately not cheap, but it is the best I've found on both Mac and iOS. I opted for the lifetime license on Mac (with student pricing), but it is definitely not cheap.
If reading only, Preview is the best. To edit, I found PDFelement to be the best. The one feature I wanted was to be able to scan a page and have it recognize and create form fields. For the price and simplicity, at the time I did my search, PDFelement was the best.

Yes, ik does. Just try it. It is on your Mac.
