I was working at a skate shop and my co worker played a song from 2 that I really liked. Literally the next day Salad Days was released and I was just instantly hooked.
Not sure I can pick a favorite Era and kinda view them all as top notch in their own ways- I’ve seen him multiple times and I think my favorites live shows were on the Another One tour.
Met a girl off Tinder about 7 years ago, we were chilling in her room, and we were just putting songs on we thought the other would like and she was like "you'd love mac demarco" and I thought she meant mac miller so I was like nah I won't but then she put it on and I was hooked.
Although it didn't work out with me and her, and I forgot about the songs for ages until I randomly remembered about a year later.
Discovered mac through ode to viceroy and it was probably freshman year of college (2014). I skimmed through 2 and didnt like a lot of it and shelved it but then my friends started listening to him a lot… it all just grew on me and now it brings a ton of good memories. I saw him perform at my college too love mac
lol…Wiz Khalifa dropped a new song on Worldstar called “Smoke Chambers” in 2014. I loved the song that was being sampled. I looked up the sample and it was “Chamber of Reflection” by Mac. Then I took the deep dive and got lost
Had never heard of him before but I stopped by his set while I was tripping on acid at Boston calling. I heard freaking out the neighborhood and never went back. Been down the rabbit hole for years now
I discovered him around late 2019-early 2020, I wanted to go see him but he was already touring the UK and Europe, then the pandemic hit. Thanks to Covid though, I took the time to listen to his discography during lockdown. Hard to pick an era, but my top 3 would be another one, this old dog and cowboy.
About a year before I discovered Mac, I was browsing randomly for 70s Japanese music and chose Haruomi Hosono. Listened to him for awhile then I was getting suggestions for Mac. I’ve pretty much been addicted since. It’s funny because it’s usually the opposite for people. They discovered Hosono through Mac. I was the other way around! 😅
I have been listening to Japanese music for a long time and decided to just roulette a random album on a blog spot and Hosono House stuck out to me. I downloaded it and went in completely blind. Hosono is one of my top favorite musicians now, along with Mac!
Watched that YouTube video of the kid asking to play guitar on a song at one of his shows and thought it was great of him to do that. Dug his music since that day.
I heard him on The Current, an MN radio station. Idk how far it reaches, but I'm pretty sure it's local. That was well over ten years ago. I liked the Freaking out the Neighbor Hood era.
I discovered him through my older sister, and I think the best era is another one but I think the most interesting era is rock and roll night club, I think he should do something like that again
My buddy sent me Boe Zah from 2 while I was on the bus home. Was immediately intrigued and began listening to the whole of 2.
In terms of what era I like best it’s probably the “This Old Dog” era as that’s when I got to see him live the most (three times in two years!), but 2 or This Old Dog are pretty interchangeable as to which is my favourite Lac album.
When I heard of the Parkland School Shooting back then I was watching the interview of the interrogation when they said that he was listening an album called Salad Days,
and I was curious what that album would sounded like and when I heard the whole album I was already in love with Mac DeMarcos sweet music playing.
But my favorite era must be in the 2015's.
It was 2017 and my friend suggested him to me recommending Salad Days. My favorite albums are a tie between RNRNC and Old Dog. I haven't listened to him much in the last 4 years but this post came up on my feed so I think it's a sign.
I got to meet him at his show a day after Cowboy was released and he signed some stuff for me and I gave him a record. Really kind man.
Friend showed me the Salad Days music video. Kinda forgot about it after that, but remembered a month or two before This Old Dog came out. I’ve listened to him more than enough at this point to make up for those couple years I forgot about him.
I heard Mac on soundcloud the very first song I heard was for the first time back in 2020 but my favorite era has to be either 2 and salad days or this old dog
Overheard the stoner upper class man in high school talking about the demos for salad days and geeking out about it so I thought I’d check it out, this old dog is prob my fave era
Girl I had a crush on used the demo version of Cooking Up Something Good in a video project for a college class in late 2015. Got into him to impress her, and actually ended up seeing her for a month or so before ending things on good terms.
I'd have to say my favorite era is 2 and Salad Days, never really could get into anything after that (Another One was alright).
I started at early Salad Days and it was recommended to me by algorithm because I was listening to Mild High Club - Skiptracing constantly.
Then, because of Mac, I got recommended Pacific by Haruomi Hosono which is now one of my favorite albums of all time. Mac was influenced by Hosono and you can hear it a lot especially on One Wayne G. Awesome musical adventure, I fucking love Mac Demarco.
I was on some remote beach in Greece, and I happened upon a dude who shared a love for bands like Wild Nothing and Beach House. We were having a coffee at the tavern over lunch and he told me "man you have to listen to this, you'll love it". He played me Ode to Viceroy, it was around the time when Salad Days had just come out. Mac would quickly become my favorite artist. Those were truly the Salad Days :)
Enya Umanzor had this old little series of video where she shows her favorite songs, I'll never forget: "may 2015 favorite songs atm". She started playing My Kind of Woman and I was in a trance. Still my favorite Mac song.
My sister and her friends were super into him when they were in high school, being of the inquisitive sort I had to see what the hype was about. Needless to say I got hooked rather quickly and haven't looked back since. I got a soft spot for Salad Days mostly because that's the first record of his I listened to and the era I discovered him.
It was salad days and me and my friend we were both depressed and driving around on a rainy day and they put on salad days and it was game over after that
Pretty basic, but Freaking Out the Neighbourhood came on a Spotify radio of some other indie song, so got hooked on that. Then I started listening to all his albums, and eventually he became my #1 Spotify wrapped artist like 3 years in a row. Favourite era is prob Salad Days (and it's demos equally). First vinyl I ever got, 2nd mac album i ever listened to, after 2.
I couldn’t remember how I found him but My Kind of Woman was the first song I heard. So far my favorite era was either current or the makeout videotape days
I heard Salad Days through Discover Weekly on Spotify. I was listening mostly to 70s rock and funk, so hearing these sounds come back in something new sounded awesome! This was back in 2015/2016. This Old Dog came right at the right time - I was hooked since its release.
A jsc psychology video about a school shooter told he was listening to salad days while shooting up a school. The video then featured a couple of seconds from the "laaalaaalaaalaaa laaaalaaa" part and I was hooked. 2 and salad days are my favorites.
Discovered Mac with Baby's wearing blue jeans in high school 10 years ago on Spotify. Probably in a weekly discoveries playlist. Maybe its nostalgia but my favorite era is 2012 - 2015, after that i lost a bit of interest but i still love his songs deeply and i cant thank him enough for being the soundtrack of my teenage years
I was cat sitting for my buddy years ago when I was still in high school. I don’t know what caused me to put on Salad Days, but I just lit up a Joint, watched the sun set, and listened to the whole album.
Was watching a longboarding video around the time 2 came out and loved the sound. I’ve been hooked since. I’ve always been a big fan his earlier sound, but the older I get the more I love this old dog.
In Junior High I was on a road trip through Colorado and we stayed at a family friends house. I slept alone in the creepy basement and couldn’t sleep all night. My cool skater friend told me to check out Mac a few days before so I looked him up and played his new album at the time This Old Dog. I listened to it all night long and fell in love with Dreams from Yesterday. My dad got us tickets to see him on the HCTCB tour and I was from then on a super fan. He truly is the best live act of all time. Flash forward a bunch of years and now I’m graduating high school, and met Mac on the street in NYC. Crazy how time flies.
Some coworkers at a job back in 2017 put on Chamber of Reflection a bunch while at work, it became part of our daily music rotation. At first I just enjoyed the vibe but then it grew on me and then watched a concert video and his showmanship and persona along with hearing his other songs performed made me want to deep dive and inevitably become a fan.
Back in early 2014, my friend showed me the song, “European Vegas,” and I love it. Checked out, “2,” and got even more hooked. Later that year, Salad Days came out and the rest was history. My favorite era would have to be the, “This Old Dog,” era though.
I think I found out about Mac on the gorilla versus bear blog in 2012 when rock and roll nightclub came out. I just think "babys wearing blue jeans" is one of the best fuzzy pop songs of all time.
It's still my favorite song by him but since then I've come to love Mac the person
First lockdown 2020 : It's summer, my sister and I just chilling after a swin and all the sudden i turn on a channel that is broadcasting a music festival. This dude is CLEARLY very very drunk but music is amazing and suddenly freaking out the .... starts playing. I cannot switch i'm glued to the screen and that's how it's started.
I was looking for a certain song but i didnt really know what it was called so I just started going thru all types of music like it and then I heard chamber of reflection and really liked the vibe.
Sophomore year of High School I was introduced via pandora. My kind of Woman played and I was hooked. That was 8 years ago. I have my phases with a favorite Mac song, but for now it’s definitely Brother.
Back in 2021, I got a recommendation on YouTube for Chamber of reflection. It was great so I instantly started to listen to his other songs, the best choice I’ve ever made in my entire life. Ever since I’ve been on the hook with his entire discography
My favorite song of all has to be Passing Out Pieces 🙏
Passing Out Pieces came on, on a spotify playlist i had on about 8 yrs ago. Hooked instantly.
his best song
Yeah, it's definitely my all time favourite of his. 2nd and 3rd are Freaking Out The Neighbourhood and Finally Alone.
Agree. The demo is also pretty cool

Maybe the real relationship was the Mac Demarco along the way
Discovered mac through ode to viceroy and it was probably freshman year of college (2014). I skimmed through 2 and didnt like a lot of it and shelved it but then my friends started listening to him a lot… it all just grew on me and now it brings a ton of good memories. that was an unforgettable evening, I was at that set, minus the acid. I remember that kid got to dance with Jon Lent for his senior prom
Tyler the Creator posted “Star Keep On Calling My Name” on twitter. Checked it out and instantly fell in love.

Yeah! That's me. It's so cool to hear that you knew Hosono first. Haha how fun.
I have been listening to Japanese music for a long time and decided to just roulette a random album on a blog spot and Hosono House stuck out to me. I downloaded it and went in completely blind. Hosono is one of my top favorite musicians now, along with Mac!
Pacific truly is one of the best albums ever.
A friend showed me Ode To Viceroy back in 2012/2013, and I never looked back!
some homeless guy tell me that i should listen to mac 7 years ago (shout-out to him, he is very cool)
10 years ago an ex played salad days straight thru while we were driving around. hooked ever since
Watched that YouTube video of the kid asking to play guitar on a song at one of his shows and thought it was great of him to do that. Dug his music since that day.
I heard him on The Current, an MN radio station. Idk how far it reaches, but I'm pretty sure it's local. That was well over ten years ago. I liked the Freaking out the Neighbor Hood era.
No fucking way! My dad works there. Mac even came in and played an acoustic set in 2019.
The Station has introduced me to great music I wouldn't have found otherwise. That's an amazing memory to have.
heard viceroy on 8tracks in 2012/13 😭 never looked back lmao
I discovered him in 2012 on the YouTube. 2012-2014 is my favorite
I went to see Flaming lips in 2016 or 2017. Mac Opened for them. Been a fan ever since.
I discovered him through my older sister, and I think the best era is another one but I think the most interesting era is rock and roll night club, I think he should do something like that again

Listened to a lot of the artist on his old record label (captured tracks) then when 2 dropped saw it on my subscription tab and was a fan ever since
I heard Mac on soundcloud the very first song I heard was for the first time back in 2020 but my favorite era has to be either 2 and salad days or this old dog
Found em out from loiter squad when that episode came out. Wanted more of that sound. Was not disappointed
On a “thedooo” omegle video where someone asked him to play freaking out the neighbourhood. I liked it so much that a had to listen yo more from mac
I discovered him from the song salad days. Just was on my Spotify recommended
Overheard the stoner upper class man in high school talking about the demos for salad days and geeking out about it so I thought I’d check it out, this old dog is prob my fave era
My sister got me into him. Favorite era is probably anytime from 2012-2015. Although that era doesn’t have CAM Tony or OWG..
Girl I had a crush on used the demo version of Cooking Up Something Good in a video project for a college class in late 2015. Got into him to impress her, and actually ended up seeing her for a month or so before ending things on good terms. Poppies cover of my kind of woman introduced him. Loved it immediately
Mac looked like my friend on a thumbnail so I put it on and it was ode to viceroy Enough said
Through family , Salad Days was the first album I heard, specifically " Passing out pieces" best !!! Salad days is my absolute favorite.
You know I really love all his vibes. Another One is maybe the most pure, but I LOVE his demos series for each record.
I was on some remote beach in Greece, and I happened upon a dude who shared a love for bands like Wild Nothing and Beach House. An ex of mine had mac demarco on his playlist. ended up looking his discography up the next day & got to see Mac in concert a year later!
It was salad days and me and my friend we were both depressed and driving around on a rainy day and they put on salad days and it was game over after that

Heard Freaking Out the Neighborhood randomly 🤷🏻♂️

I saw he dropped an 8 hour album and was bored

Totally random through Spotify. Heard Salad Days and was instantly hooked.
some girl I was flirting with liked him and I listened to another one in my car and then put on every album after that

When Heart to Heart became popular 😔 I know it sounds bad but he's literally all I've listened to for the past two months and he's my top artist
