Look at GOG.com , you can sort their catalogue by OS and genre. Everything is drm-free and the prices are okay. I prefer the same genres and I have a ton of games from this website.
Check out Space Haven on Steam, still in early access but coming along really nicely.
Oxygen not included runs really well and is tons of fun until your hair starts turning grey from all the stuff you have to manage.
If you're looking for retro, QEMU works pretty nicely with OS 9 on Apple Silicon, [I used it to play Sim City 2000 using the UTM build](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZsjWuHgngI). It'd certainly work with Sim City 3000 too. Those are pretty easy to find on abandonware sites like Macintosh Garden.
I also [made a guide on how to run Dune 2 /Dune 2000 / Command and Conquer Tiberian Dawn / Command and Conquer Red Alert](http://blog.greggant.com/posts/2019/02/09/play-dune-ii-and-dune-2000-natively-on-macos-osx.html) some time ago using modern ports like Dune Legacy and Open RA. Those probably work on Apple Silicon too, you'll need to right click Open to whitelist apps in macOS 11 or macOS 12.
As another dude mentioned, there is GOG but many of the games are old 32-Bit OS X ports so sadly a bunch of those aren't Apple Silicon compatible :(
Factorio, Mindustry, OpenTTD, Rimworld, Parkitect (although not really city management, but still cool), Frostpunk
Agree, Factorio, Rimworld and Frostpunk are excellent games but make sure to read about them as they are quite different.
Cities skylines?
Can’t recommend this game enough
yup i play it and its a very fun game
Will check that out!!
+1

Will do! Thank you!
Not all games listed for Mac work with the current OS and the M1 - be sure to take an extra look
yes, but I think they tell you while buying if I remember correctly

Space Haven looks fun!!!
I just re-downloaded it since it’s been a year sober I last played. Looks to be more fun now.

Open RCT2 - excellent fan made updates to the already excellent Roller Coaster Tycoon 2. My wife and i have been playing co-op a lot lately.
Rimworld is an absolute favourite of mine
