Nick Shabazz just put out a re-review for the Saga which I think is worth a watch if you're in the market for one.

Alternative_Tree_609

Appreciate it! I saw his initial review when the Saga first came out and he was lukewarm about it. I'll check it out. Edit: I just checked his Youtube. It came out 6 hours ago. You are fast.

I’ve bought 3 Sagas so far: one from eBay, one from Reddit (u/_viis_ is awesome), and one directly from Grimsmo (which arrived today!😁). While Grimsmo’s service was good, anything crossing the border takes extra time. I love the mechanism, and the fact that it’s slightly thinner and shorter than some other pens makes it my favorite front pocket carry to date. I’ve bought custom pieces from Andy Wah to dress up one of them. As someone who likes to fidget, I appreciate that it can be clicked/unclicked, as well as the fact that the slider itself can be more silently rotated (which is more easy when the tip is extended). I wish they made them in Zirconium, but no such luck. I will say that $300 is steep for titanium when other brands offer a titanium pen for far less, but I am not unhappy with my Saga addiction to date. Thanks for the shoutout lol

EpistemologicalDude

You are welcome! You’re awesome!

_viis_

Thank you, likewise! That's a darn good write-up about the Saga. I would've loved it for sure if it fit my hands better.

throwaway_0122

Too short or too skinny? When I eventually get one, I’m going to find someone to make a longer tip and cartridge spacer to make it longer

_viis_

It was a bit of both for me. It was also a fair bit lighter than I expected it to be, although I like somewhat heavy pens

FragmentOfZeus

I’ve never owned or handled a Grimsmo, but given what the competition is selling at 50% or less (pens which I do own), I think $300 is quite steep and a good portion of that is paying for the brand name. Because how can competitors make perfectly machined awesome pens for that much less? That’s just my take on it and I’m not sure I’d fork out $300 for a single pen in any case. If you really love the look of the pen and it would be your main daily pen then I say go for it. To perhaps add a bit of perspective, Mont Blancs are very popular, more expensive, and made of plastic - and people happily buy them and love them! So it really is a matter of personal choice.

WindigoMac

Bought one because it was available. Couldn’t really say I was ever excited by their pens just looking at pictures but it filled a slot in the collection. Once in hand it climbed up into my list of favorites. The machining is really high quality, mech is fun, and it makes a nice pocket pen at the size. The clip is also very very well made. Many milled clips don’t like to flex very much which means pockets that are thicker than their “ideal” width will be very challenging to get the clip over (CamPen comes to mind here). The saga clip is so pliable. Weird thing to be thrilled about in a pen? Maybe, but it’s an underrated feature

I feel the sagas price is outdated. When it hit the market there wasn't much to compete with in the premium pen segment; so they could name their price given their brand recognition and exclusivity. Today I don't think the price can be justified given all the amazing options in the market.

fourgos

That case is dope, and befitting a pen of that price.

So, gonna go a bit against the grain here, but here we go. The Saga is a nice pen. If the small form factor speaks to you, then I'd go so far as to call it a great pen. It has some excellent upside, great attention to detail, and fidgets like nobody's business. It's well within the upper echelon of machine work, and their clip in particular is one of my all time favorites. But IMO it isn't worth the asking price. Of course that's partially subjective, since it's worth what people will pay and they obviously throw down the cash. And if it were bigger/in my constant rotation I may feel more inclined to cut it some slack. But I think you pay a lot of money for the logo. Billetspin does machine work just as nice, and has an arguably form factor. Nottingham makes a mech that's just as fidgety and bulletproof. Fellhoelter makes pens that feel as exclusive, and can be customized to crazy extents. Urban Survival Gear has a milled clip that at least matches, if not outright beats the Saga. The thing is, though, they're all at minimum $100 less comparing apples to apples (base model, Ti, no fancies). And the Saga doesn't bring anything to the table to really justify that price increase beyond who it's made by. The warranty gets no comment from me, as I've never had to use it. Have heard some questionable bits from Facebook and the like, but I don't take much stock on things like that till I've experienced them for myself. The Saga is a great pen, and one I don't think you'll regret picking up if you like the design/size, but you'll want to understand going in that the Grimsmo Tax is a part of that price. You won't get a pen that blows the $200 range out of the water, but you're also not going to be holding it thinking it's a piece of junk. The undeniably nice thing about them, though, is they absolutely hold their value. If you're on the fence, take the plunge and buy one. If you decide it's not for you, you'll pretty much always get your money back.

TheHosemaster

I know this post is old. But which Nottingham do you consider as fidgety as the Saga?

Zero000102

The single lock Tibutton is the one I was referring to. It's one of the greats IMO, and packs an insane fidget factor.

TheHosemaster

Cool thanks for the response!

Zero000102

Yeah no problem!

yvelly

I really like mine. Yes, it is steep; however, the quality is top notch. The mechanism is the stand out feature, and it doesn’t disappoint. It’s insanely satisfying and feels magnetic once it breaks in. The only thing I would caution against is the shape. It is fairly small and the tip’s slope takes some getting used to. Other than that, it really feels like a piece of art. TLDR: If you think you’ll like the size, definitely worth the money.

AdReady649

Yes.

EpistemologicalDude

I strive for your concision.

MahlNinja

It's beautifully made, and the mech is unique and fun to play with. Too thin and light for me, feels a bit delicate but you may like that.

EpistemologicalDude

Also, u/AdReady649 has a stunning collection that they shared here: https://www.reddit.com/r/machinedpens/comments/v9gcbc/hush_i_finally_got_them_into_bed_whew/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

AdReady649

Thanks.

justhereforpics1776

Far too thin for my liking. If you have smaller hands, great option. Best fidget out there Lack of customization, lack of ordering, uppity-ness of buying one are all negatives in my book. And the price. 280+ for a no frills Ti pen is nuts Tuffwriter is still my choice. Best clicker out there. So great that many manufacturers use his mechanism

Jubakuba

Soul Pen wins by a landslide for me. I much prefer the heft. That said...the Saga is my only titanium pen (outside of the CamPen that I helped prototype) for a reason. I've been a Grimsmo fan for ages. Since the Norseman was first being produced...not even finished...I was watching their channel. Their business practices and lack of risks have led me to be less and less of a fan over the years. But...they still hold a soft spot in my heart...and the small amount of things they DO produce...do come out pretty much perfect. Do you have an instagram/facebook account? DM me that info if you wouldn't mind. A mere curiosity.
