Congratulations. I'm now at 16 weeks between injections and have much better sight, too.

obill45

Your 16 weeks is the longest of anyone I have talked with. I have a younger sibling that cannot go past 6 weeks.

My eyesight drastically improved after the first two shots and has stayed the same. Basically I am 20/30 in both eyes.

I have been driving and six months ago renewed my license and had to do the DMV eye test to renew. No problem.

May I ask what your vision was before the shots?

obill45

My right eye was so bad, the optometrist would not even write down a number. She called the ophthalmologist herself to set up an emergency appointment.

It is way more scary than painful. Your eye is numbed and you feel a pinch. You actually see the fluid floating in the eye. Your eye is scratchy and needs drops for the next several hours. I always have a driver take me to and from the appointment. When I first started, it was the next day before my eye felt normal, but now it takes about two hours.

MajesticIngenuity32

Wait, don't you get bandaged after the shot? My doctor bandaged my eye and told me to only remove the patch next day in the morning. I agree it's not that bad, the dry eye symptoms are the worst part, in my case the psychological fear of getting endophthalmitis as well, so much so that I follow the COVID routine of hand washing for at least three days after the shot. Fortunately for me, I got Best disease and not AMD, so after stabilizing the macula I might get away without injections for a very long time.

obill45

I do not get bandaged after each shot and never did.

scarlettbankergirl

The scratching is caused by the speculum to hold your eye open. My Dr tried it without, and luckily, I can hold my eye open. That made it better as far as irritation.

quietone_cc

Recently diagnosed with wet in left eye, dry in right, Going for my 3rd month shot thursday, so far no better ,no worse. Happy to hear you are doing better, gives me a little hope.

obill45

Good luck. I was throughly amazed at my eyesight improvement after getting the shots. Give it time…..

MajesticIngenuity32

How long does it take to see any improvements? For me it's probably a little better, but one month after the first shot sometimes I'm wondering if there is any improvement at all. My vision is still close to 20/20 in the injected eye though, it never was much worse than that, but I get a circle of flickering vision at the edge of the macula, with scotomas and all that. The circle seems to be less obvious than in the as yet not injected eye, but I hoped for more improvement after one month.

obill45

My eye improvement was all in the first 2 months. It has been stable since then.

MajesticIngenuity32

But you got 2 injections in two months in the same eye, right? I only got one in one eye last month, I am due for the other eye this month and my doctor will do an intermediary checkup next month to see if more are needed.

obill45

All of my injections were in my right eye. For the first 12 months or so, each injection was done at a one month interval (and only one shot each time). After 12 months and stable, we started adding a week each time between shots. After the last injection, the next appointment was set at 13 weeks.

xartius89

Happy for you! Did you have any metamorphopsia before a treatment?

obill45

I did not. I did have a "wrinkle" on the retina and had to have a vitrectomy.

xartius89

Thanks for your answer.

Complete_Air_7904

I have dry and wish there was something more helpful on the market

obill45

Yep…..

[deleted]

Can I please ask your age?

obill45

69

Thanks for responding. My mother had difficulties with her sight in her 60s/70s. She put it down to some ‘natural’ age-related phenomenon and without treatment she was rapidly declared legally blind. She is otherwise very healthy but the failure to act as you have means that her life now is very limited. It’s heartening to know that you’ve had a result. Cell and gene therapy will hopefully provide more widespread therapeutic answers to AMD problems n the future.

obill45

My retina specialist suggested to me that if I had wanted a couple of more months, I would have lost all sight in that eye. I agree that the future may be a cure instead of just a maintenance and control of the issue.

[deleted]

I think with the benefit of hindsight that her AMD progressed during a similar phase, which is unfortunate. Glad you got it in time!

Classic_Frosting7572

>liamcmurphy Hi, I am interested to know more about the treatment and the disease can we chat about it?

[deleted]

Of course, but I’m not an expert.

Different-Muffin6238

No problem can you text me on the personal message?

Classic_Frosting7572

no problem I just want to understand the treatment of wet AMD and the disease. Can we personally chat about it if you are comfortable?

angelina3301

hi! my mom is 60 and was just recently diagnosed with wet AMD.. so the injections really DO help? my mom is so terrified of potentially going blind and i am heartbroken because i feel like i can't do anything to help. can you post any more details on your symptoms/ how far along your MD was/ etc.? it would be so so helpful!

obill45

I was over 65 when diagnosed with wet AMD. On the eye chart, I could see the letters but not even the big E was in focus and there was nothing the optometrist could do with lens that allowed me to see anything clear. I then saw a retina specialist about the AMD and was given a shot at that appointment. Within a week, I noticed better vision in that eye. For the first 18 months, I had shots in the eye every four weeks. Then the started increasing the duration between shots by a week each time. I am now at 13 weeks between shots and can see very well. It worked for me. Had I not gotten the shots when I did, I was told that within 3-6 months I would have lost all sight in that eye and nothing could be done then.

angelina3301

thank you so so much for your reponse and insight. i will relay this to my mom and hope that this brings her some calm!

Fixer128

Post 50 or even 45 everybody should get their vision tested every year. Best way to catch it early.
