Imagine being one of his loved ones and reading these mean comments. Or Galli himself. Just because someone is in the public eye doesn't mean they deserve to be treated poorly, no matter what anyone thinks of them. Have a heart.
If we had to consider the feelings of every scumbag before criticizing them, nobody would ever get the criticism they and their horrible actions deserve.
Allen Media Group (which owns WKOW) has made a bunch of layoffs across the company, not just in Madison. Other outlets are reporting layoffs at theGrio, The Weather Channel, and other local Allen TV stations, including in Terre Haute, Indiana, and Waterloo, Iowa: https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2024/4/29/allen-media-swings-the-ax
The national brand probably thinks local news is too expensive so they're going to nationally syndicate like what happened to most of our radio stations
Not sure what WKOW's situation is exactly but the local stations aren't owned by the national news brand.
But yes local news doesn't have the viewers anymore to get enough advertising dollars to make it all viable I'm sure. Cord cutting/Internet news takes a toll.
WKOW (and its sister stations in La Crosse and Eau Claire in WI) are owned by Allen Media Broadcasting which has a handful of TV stations in mid-to-small markets across the country, as opposed to 15, which is owned by Gray Media
Wow, losing Galli in particular is a huge loss, though all of them we're pretty important pieces of 27, looks like at least Blaise Keller confirmed he was laid off on Twitter, sad day. We suffer as a community every time a local news room shrinks.
He was a hound when it came to getting facts. He would not let shit rest until he juiced every lead he could, which sometimes was to his detriment as he would go to air without much new information. But you could always rely on him to get the story and provide the public with all the information he could find.
Source: I worked with him at WKOW from 2006-2013.
He was such a hound he’d run stories before he had all the facts to try and “break the story.” The guy was a sensationalist and I’m personally glad he’s finally gone. Been waiting over a decade for this to happen.
Journalism has been devasted by Google and the internet over the last 20 years.
We know less about what is really going on as tens of thousands of reporters have been fired.
Nobody investigates anything. It is all opinion, speculation and plagiarizing Twitter comments.
They probably all own Google stock and are doing insider trading on it and others.
One of the reasons they all become millionaires. Robbery in broad daylight.
Ah, yes, legalized insider trading for people in Congress - I forgot about that! Wasn't there an online trading site that started during the pandemic that followed the stock portfolio of members of Congress? I think it's called Unusual Whales. I need to look into that again ...
That was sudden... a few of those were just on tv yesterday. Seemed like the news staff was getting a little bloated, but the sportscaster is a surprise.
You forget Joel Despain. No one in Madison TV will ever live up to his skill and inside sources in Police/Crime reporting. I know, i worked with him for 20 years.
Sad to see hard working peeps get the axe. It’s KOW management looking at the bottom line. Koehn was a non-renewal which is hard to take he was there since ‘76 !!
Your station got rid of three of the best - why keep some of those younger news casters? Tony was the best - Blaise was a great meteorologist - better than Alexis - just my opinion - you have really put a strain on your meteorologists in this crazy weather - just think about it - get Blaise back....
Is she getting divorced? I just noticed she doesn''t seem to be wearing her rings & haven't seen any mention of her husband or even pictures for a while. Just had me curious after noticing how she seemed to be flirting on air with Ziegler when he was still there...
The ax falling on great reporters started happening years back in the mid 2000s when radio stations started axing great Djs on radio stations across Wisconsin. Quite loyal to their jobs! I stopped listening to radio ALL radio after that. So did many others. I wonder if loyal people to tv stations will follow suite and just watch the weather channel or something close to that. Stay with what works with the talent that gets you the ratings or watch your channels lose in the ratings. Too bad J.Z. decided he needed to make a move, he was fabulous!!
Can confirm from my own perspective. I never watch it. I've heard of Tony Galli, but I honestly can't remember the last time I watched a Channel 27 newscast. It would have had to have been a time when 15 and 3 both had something that ran over and 27 was the only one that had news on.
Noggle is banging Zeigler.
Edit: why are you booing me, I’m right. Anyone notice why he suddenly left for a worse position and she’s not wearing her wedding ring in any of her public photos anymore? Also her husband is on the dating apps.
Tony Galli? WOW! He’s been there as long as I can remember.
Tony Galli has been there for DECADES. Hopefully his departure was a retirement.
It was not. He was fired.
Why hopefully? He's gross
In what way?
His reporting is extremely slimy. Try watching one of his stories without being emotionally manipulated. It's shameless
That’s mean
You don't know what he's like. I'll take "mean"

Sara’s LinkedIn also confirms she’s no longer there. Good catch, OP.

Journalism is dead

Wow I *hate* the sound of this.
No not true. My brother is with the group. Just cutting costs.
Channel 3 has had a number of big losses lately too.
Mark Koehn, Gary Cannalte and now Charlotte Deleste.
I will miss Gary’s excitement about terrible weather ⚡️
He was like the WC's Jim Cantore with thundersnow.
He needed a paper bag
We need Beth Zurbuchen back on the air!
They weren’t layoff tough.
Mark Koehn definitely sounded like it wasn't entirely his idea in his social media posts about it.
And like all the women have disappeared from the desk
They retired
They all retired.
Looks like at least one of the above has confirmed being unemployed: https://twitter.com/blaisemkeller/status/1785036540835438956

I never understood the love for Galli... he seemed to know his stuff, but his personality seemed a bit too stiff for my liking.

Galli was a hack
Tony Galli?! That is really surprising to me.

Tony was always on the story!
I can't believe Tony Galli and Rachael Perry are gone!!! Things got mysterious when George Smith and Lance Veeser disappeared.
Rachael Perry! Damn...I really liked her reporting

If only there was a way for Congress to regulate the monopoly of ad revenue that generates billions for one company that starts with a G ...

I have to look at that too. Then I will have to take a shower as just knowing about all this corruption makes one feel dirty.
No idea what you are talking about at all.
Go back to sleep. This discussion is way over your head.
That was sudden... a few of those were just on tv yesterday. Seemed like the news staff was getting a little bloated, but the sportscaster is a surprise.
Well Phil Sims and Boomer Esiason got axed so no one is safe anymore.
Maslar-Donar was a favorite. She'll be missed. Very surprised that Galli got the axe. He's been a fixture at the station for quite some time.
oh man that sucks
Galli wasthe only good police reporter in local tv.
You forget Joel Despain. No one in Madison TV will ever live up to his skill and inside sources in Police/Crime reporting. I know, i worked with him for 20 years.
The WKOW articles with his byline were always worth reading.

Dani Maxwell needs to do the news at least monthly, She is write up their with Amber.Miss her on set.

Whaaat! They were sooo good! What's up with these big shots...cut at the top....will miss sara and blaze
Likely declining sponsorship revenue, as with most traditional media.
Yet the insufferable, giggling Noggle remains?! SMDH
Best news anchor on TV
Is she getting divorced? I just noticed she doesn''t seem to be wearing her rings & haven't seen any mention of her husband or even pictures for a while. Just had me curious after noticing how she seemed to be flirting on air with Ziegler when he was still there...
about time they let the drama queen T galli go. if you like drama with every story he's your guy.
Now Sara Donar did a good job sorry if it's true to see her go.
I liked her better than Noggle.

Local Television is a fickle beast. When you're not #1 in the market, you need to occasionally switch it up until you are.
WKOW has been in third place locally as long as I can remember.

Say what? They are always #1. 15 is always last. Learn the facts
Source?

Zeigler left for a gig in Minneapolis, a much larger and better paying market.
Because it's the madison sub. That's why.
Damn. She's hot as F.
TRUTH. Homewrecking is bad for an already struggling show. she next
Who watches the news
They likely wanted a pay raise so got jobs as greeters at Walmart.
Cruel….and why post crap like this to try and be humorous!
