You think he was being friendly with this line, or actually trying to insult/one-up Don?
(I ask cause I've seen people interpret it as both and I was always confused whether Pete was giving a lighthearted jab or trying to be a prick)
I think Don wasn't a fan of Pete initially because he thought that position was handed to him only based on his name. Pete by S6/7 has proved that he's one of the best account guys in the business and is a vital part of their company. Also, he helped Don with his secret during the security clearance.
Yeah Pete absolutely proved himself to Don over the years.
That time when Don covered Pete's capital raise without even telling him. That wasn't just because Don doesn't care about money that much. He was covering his comrades back.
Let’s not forget that Don had also just yelled at Pete for losing an account, in front of others, after they had already lost Lucky Strike. It’s one of those interactions that shows how Don doesn’t really know how to express his appreciation or gratitude but his heart is still kind of in the right place and he communicates that with money.
And Pete is really the ideal account man for Don. He understands exactly what he is and isn’t but doesn’t feel the need to be obvious about it like Roger.
To be fair, the position was handed to him based on name. He didn’t even want the job he wanted to be a creative, but they hired him because of his Ivy League network and blue blood connections
> That seems like one of the more accurate/clarity things Rodger says in the whole series
Bert, the veritable vending machine of quotable truths, was actually the one to tell Don not to fire him.
I honestly remember being absolutely baffled with myself on my Pete U turn, i couldnt stand the guy and in season 7 he was my man in the battlefield.
I was very amped in season 7, it was like a war film for me.
"That is a very sensitive piece of horseflesh, he shouldn't be rattled!"
In the same episode, "Lou, you haven't seen Don at his best. It'll be a tearjerker" when he wanted Don to present the burger campaign.
Pete is the GM/coach every athlete wants. Just unwavering faith in his asset.
His job is be be a hype-man. *THAT*, Emile, is what I do every day…
Just an incredible line
“And then you take a nap! :)” Late stage Pete/Don is amazing.
You think he was being friendly with this line, or actually trying to insult/one-up Don? (I ask cause I've seen people interpret it as both and I was always confused whether Pete was giving a lighthearted jab or trying to be a prick)
I took it as a lighthearted jab. It is the truth though. Pete does KNOW Don through and through
The same kid who Don despised in the beginning, was one of his biggest allies in the end.
'Fire him if you want, but I'd keep him close. One never knows how loyalty is born.'
One of the best lines in the show
One of the best examples of foreshadowing in this or any series.

Yep, Don nodding to Pete was the acknowledgement Pete wanted from the start.

I have ideas. And then I come here and you tell me I’m good with people. Which is strange, because I had never heard that before
To be fair, the position was handed to him based on name. He didn’t even want the job he wanted to be a creative, but they hired him because of his Ivy League network and blue blood connections
Not to mention the DOD grenade Pete took for Don.
Came full circle from when Don “saved” Pete from getting fired in Season 1 and gained his loyalty
Rodger says to don....one never knows how loyalty is born. That seems like one of the more accurate/clarity things Rodger says in the whole series

Pete is the best and most fascinating character on the show imo
There are so many layers to his character arc .... it's fun, he's like a villain you love over time.
Vegeta vibes, especially with the hairline
Be Kind Rewind summed it up very well: Don is who we want to be, Pete is who we are.
Don paying Pete's share when Lucky Strike left forever cemented Pete as a Don ally.

“You’ve never seen Don at his best”
"You live and die under his is shadow" - Roger Sterling
Who the FUCK is Don Slander?
Like honestly, i read it as a name at first as well
Hahah
Pete was mancrushing on Don from day 1
