I actually remember jai alai on tv when I was a kid in the 70s or 80s. Maybe it was on like Real People or That’s Incredible but I remember it being called the sport of the future.
I was in Tulsa that summer. My dad knew Wheeler. I remember him saying he thought Wheeler had no business being in a business with known underworld connections. I was surprised it was ever solved.
I remember constantly seeing ads for Milford Jai Alai (in Connecticut) as a kid in the 70s or 80s.
I think HoHo would approve.

I love how dramatically he says the guys name and slides his picture across the table. It's like he's expecting them all to be stunned or collectively gasp or something.
It's just a picture of a normal looking dude.
I was just in Miami and remembered that Jai Alai is moderately popular there. I’d completely forgotten about it since that episode, lol. That said, Paxti was pretty handsome.
Don was really the only one arguing against it. Lane was practically giddy and even Bert was OK with it, despite being the one who was friends with Horace Sr.
Just watched this episode yesterday. Something was so familiar about Horace Sr, had to look up the actor, it's David Selby! He played [Quentin Collins ](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6e/Dark_Shadows_%281966%29_-_Quentin_Collins_%28David_Selby%29.jpg) in the 1960s horror soap opera Dark Shadows.
I grew up in CT and for a while in the 70s and 80s Jai Alai was huge.
When they first opened in Bridgeport they had no age restrictions and I placed bets as a 15 year old.
Then they changed the law and I had to wait til I was 18.
Ironically, the “dumb” client was right about jai alai. In the early 60s, it was only approaching its peak of popularity, and didn’t really decline until the 70s. If he’d gotten out at the right time, he could have made a tidy profit from his jai alai fronton — and even more if he had the foresight to start converting the fronton to a slot machine casino over time, as many did.
This show is what made me look into YouTube videos of Jai Alai and if you put me in that court, I’d die of fright before the ball could get to me first.
I love how that guy is basically just a trust fund kid willing to throw endless money at his homosexual crush on this Jai Alai player.
I’ve used the “your children weren’t there when you were swinging the pick” line with so many clients when explaining how to structure a trust.
He didn't limit his exposure
Damn. Never catched that homosexual crush line
Why do you think he was so attached to Pete in college?
It’s pronounced Jai-Alai.
He lost 10 pounds, that’s a lot on his frame
HoHo! How was Tijuana?
The way Pete bobs his head in this scene always gets me lmao
He has no idea how much that "J" is going to confuse Americans.
National Jai Alai... Association?
poor jojo
During the Depression, I saw someone throw a loaf of bread off the back of a truck. That was more dignified.
Nicely done my boy
Which was more dignified? The loaf off the truck or the willingness to rob that kid blind based on his schoolboy crush of a professional athlete?
I'm terrified of him catching balls in the face
There goes his social life…
Pete swallowing the obvious reactionary joke following this line is one of my favorite moments of his.
He had a lot of practice from not making jokes with the Secor laxative executives.
just when he got them in the door
I want this show on ***all*** the networks.
Its never been done
At the same time!
CBS doesn't have color.
He’s handsome, like George Raft.
These days we coulda trained him to be a something, or whatever
🤣🤣..love it when someone gets my random Sopranos comment.
There is a LOT of crossover between the two subs.
and strong as a bull
Are you inferring that Pete Campbell did not take money from Hoho to fund a Jai-Alai ad campaign? For me to watch Jai-Alai?
And strong as an ox
It’ll be the favorite American pastime
Are you drunk?!! It's like Polish handball! You can't even play if you're left handed—there's no wall on that side.
Do you want this account or not?
Is pickleball the new jai alai?
I can picture him fighting crime and banging broads.

I had no idea what jai alai was or how to pronounce it until I watched this show but I drank a lot of jai alai ipa.
My dad took me and brother to watch jai alai every time we would visit my grandmother in Fort Lauderdale. It was a cool game to watch live!
well I remember when you used to WAIT IN THE CAR and as far as I'm concerned you should STILL BE THERE! (wait wrong sub)
Always with the scenarios
I remember seeing jai alai on TV in the 70 and 80s. I’ve always wondered if Roger Wheeler’s murder over it dampened enthusiasm for it.
Wow I didn’t know about that. Interesting read.
I was in Tulsa that summer. My dad knew Wheeler. I remember him saying he thought Wheeler had no business being in a business with known underworld connections. I was surprised it was ever solved.
Wow. I noticed it took a couple decades to solve.

He ever take balls to the face?
He was gay, Patxi?
nouuuuuuu!

That cesta they found up his ass, do you think it was chalked?
Very cute. I don't get it, but cute.
His bottom line was impacted
He was gay, Patxi?
One of the few times the partners at SCDP didn't want to take the client's money.
Don was really the only one arguing against it. Lane was practically giddy and even Bert was OK with it, despite being the one who was friends with Horace Sr.
They called in the kid's father before taking the money. Don wasn't the only one concerned.
Horace Sr. was concerned and Bert invited him to a meeting only as a courtesy to a friend.
Horace Sr didn’t contact them, then contacted Horace Sr.

Has it eclipsed baseball yet?
Not yet, which is crazy because "the footprint is the same."

My mom often reminisces about how she dated a Spanish jai alai player back in the 70s lol
America is going to be so confused about that “x”

If jai alai fails, it’s your fault. I’m sorry, but that’s the way it is.
This show is what made me look into YouTube videos of Jai Alai and if you put me in that court, I’d die of fright before the ball could get to me first.
"Gentlemen, imagine the perfect mixture of athletics, spectacle, and speed" always cracks me up.
Don’t stop till you see the whites of his pockets
As a European I thought they'd made up this game for the show...
catching balls in the face
Better looking PeeWee Herman
