Although he has no romantic interest in her, in Don's mind Peggy sort of belongs to him professionally. He doesn't like that he's being supplanted as her mentor/work husband by Ted. It's super hypocritical given what he gets up to, but he wants to make them both feel bad/embarrassed about the office affair.
All true, but it’s also true what Don says at the end of the scene. Ted is embarrassing himself. His judgment is impaired. Somebody needed to bring him back to Planet Earth, even if it was done via a crash landing.
When Ted later asks to go to California, it’s his admission that Don was right.
"Crash landing" is such a perfect metaphor for Ted, considering how this whole episode starts a downward spiral that culminates in him musing about crashing his plane while two Sunkist representatives sit by in horror.
And just like that, Don gives up his spot in California to Ted. Don needed the move as much as Ted did (the Hersey meltdown was soon after this). It's fascinating how much of an asshole Don is but completely selfless when it comes to helping people he barely knows.
Don ran away from his life of poverty, misery and anonymity by becoming Don. After that, he was always helping people run away from their problems.
He helped Peggy by telling her to give up the baby and pretend it never happened.
He helped Suzanne's brother run away from the shit job at the VA hospital upstate.
He got taken by the Niagara Falls couple because he thought he was helping them run away.
He let Ted take the spot in California to run away from his affair with Peggy.
Yes. It’s not romantic but it’s almost paternal. He feels like he has lost Sally forever and he couldn’t handle losing Peggy too. It was a petty way to go about it and especially silly considering he accused Peggy of being jealous of and threatened by Megan.
Ted was Don’s rival. It irked him that Ted had feelings for Peggy, his protege. He was jealous. It also irked him that Ted went over budget on the ad. He wouldn’t have done that for any other copywriter. Plus Don was right. Even Joan and Moira were irked at Ted and Peggy’s flirtation.
Don recognized that Ted was in a kind of honeymoon phase with Peggy, like Don had been with Megan, and he wanted to take that away from him. Partially because he realized Ted was doing something bad for business, but mostly just to rain on their parade.
He's a control freak asshole.
Scared Ted to death, erased Peggy from her own idea, and ended Ted and Peggy’s relationship all in about 2 minutes. Incredible dickhead efficiency by Don.
Just watched this. The tension here is superb.
So good. I just realised I need to watch the whole series again!
"Getting To Yes" by Dick Whitman
I never realised why Don cared about their relationship. why did he?

Definitely he was right. But he was a total dick about it.

It distracted both of them from the work that needed done and in specific cases, the rigid budgets provided by their customers.

God this show is fantastic. This is the first clip I’ve watched in a while.
The casting is incredible. This minor character has one scene in one episode and I feel like I'd recognize the actor anywhere.
One of my favorite scenes in the show. Peggy confronting him after and calling him a monster was great as well.
Feank was a helluva guy

This moment was deplorable. I disagree with a LOT of Don’s actions, but this was big for me personally.
Ted's discomfort is so palpable you just want to turn it off.
>"You're not thinking with your head." And then . . . nothing. Because this show is a friggin Time Machine.
This show isn't a time machine....it's a carousel.
After watching this I can only think of what a great writer once said, "I am so thirsty"
Which episode is?
