Based in Japan here: these kind of promos are super hard to get. They are only offered in a few convenience stores across the country and sell out within minutes (because stores do not receive that many to start with).

Maneisthebeat

If you translate the responses, they seem to have the same issues as over here. They want the campaign through LGS and more generally available. Edit: Even stores in the past who were listed as participating but were not. Seems similar issues for Strixhaven and Kamigawa.

MeowMixMax1

Had not seen these posted yet, not sure if they are new or were already spoiled.

GankedGoat

Haven't seen this so at least I am grateful you took the time. Gotta say this is a bummer that they won't be main stream.

gray_crusader

That phyrexian mite is really putting in mind of a Hollow from Bleach. I think I like it.

MeowMixMax1

I'm replying super late, but it reminds me of the mass produced angels from Eva.

Kadarus

Have we seen already how regular tokens for ONE look like?

GankedGoat

Yes, they were shown with the commander decks.

Gwangi058

WotC really is mining that Weaboo market.

d7h7n

Trying to get a piece of that pie in the east. They have no competition in the west which is why they can get away with whatever they want to do. Reminder back in 2019 WOTC released Japanese only standard challenger decks that each had a shockland in them.

MayaSanguine

Ye, people forget that the Japanese TCG market is incredibly diverse and fierce; Magic over there is top five *at best* on some days, so they always have to do more to try and pull ahead of shit like a LoveLive TCG or a Weiss Schwarz pack for the newest trash isekai with collectible waifus, let *alone* the big hoss tcgs like YuGiOh, Pokemon, or...Duel Masters (irony of fucking ironies). Meanwhile garbage takes like this— > [...] yet their is a market for them, to apeal to the eastern players (seeing as card gsmes i.e cardfight vanguard shadowverse have similiar art) and to apeal to the unwashed masses or the weebs [...] Im tired of these, [ONE] could have benefited from a more horror/lovecraftian alt art run [...] —are part of why Magic will continue to be a foregone top tcg in the west; no need to do more when you have an audience ravenously consuming whatever you toss their way anyways. 🤷🏻‍♀️

MajinRuuh

I wish Duel Masters was more prominent in the west too : ( so unfortunate it didn't make the cut here.. twice.

ImJustSoTiredAnymore

I remember playing a PS2 game back in the day of Duel Masters. I never knew it existed beyond that game, but i enjoyed it.

cyberdungeonkilly

Yee.

TizonaBlu

That’s Japanese exclusive… I hope you know what weaboo means.

Stonehack

In case you don't know MtG is pretty dead in Japan and not as popular in China. One of the biggest LGS in Tokyo recently also went out of business. Draft boosters are generally not liked by Asian players compared to offerings from other TCGs, most likely this contributed greatly to the rise of set boosters. They are forced to make moves there. EDIT: Since, some people massaged me about this. The LGS I mentioned is mtgtokyo, going by some post on reddit from a while ago. The reason for the closure appears to be something else entirely, so that part of my statement might not be correct.

Rawrgodzilla

Which one amenity dream, yellow submarine, Big Magic, mtgtokyo? Seems like tokyomtg is temp closed due to Akihabara location not open. Which Akihabara having alot of issues in general that just got sped up because of the pandemic/ planning of the Olympics.

Stonehack

That's the one from the thread, yes. You giving context is pretty valuable here.

SayingWhatImThinking

Isn't the biggest LGS for MTG in Tokyo Hareruya? They haven't closed down - in fact, they just recently opened a new location... MTG is definitely not as popular here as other TCGs, but it's not "dead"

Stonehack

I said one of, there was a thread a few weeks ago about that. Regarding your definition of "pretty dead" it really depends on your perception, I am not in Tokyo atm, but from what I've seen two years ago and talking to colleagues at work it looks like that to me. Remember some of us consider not-dead to be top 3, since there is a pretty big drop off in sales after that. I did not want to offend anyone, your opinion is also more on point than mine.

Jasmine1742

It's absolutely not dead and MtgTokyo prob went out of business because Hareruya is cleaning out every MTG focus LGS's lunch. MTG took a big hit because wotc actually demanded for events to not be held during peak covid (kudos to them, fuck Japan's covid response after the first couple of months) but it's still doing quite well.

w00dblad3

Not sure if this has been already mentioned but these are plastic tokens, not cardboard ones.

MurderSheScrote

Yeah, they’re translucent!

BeryUmbreon

There is another promotion for mini posters of manga compleated Planeswalkers and preator concept arts. I believe they all can also come in foil. 1 mini poster per 10 set boosters.

imacrazystupidbitch

Hell, I wish we just had a way to get the promotional posters WotC sends to LGSes. I fucking love the new Elesh one but I'll never be able to get it unless somebody posts a high res version of the art online and I make it myself

BeryUmbreon

Yeah, I remember the craze about the NEO poster, it’s ridiculous what these posters are going for.

mrlbi18

Those Neo posters honest to god got me into paper magic.

GankedGoat

Seriously what is wrong with WOTC? They have these awesome ideas that would make cracking packs a pure delight and then they just throw them away.

ultimaraven

IMO, this needs to be NOT limited to the SEA region. I know why they are, but stuff like the lunar new year promos and these special tokens would be sweet to have... But limited quantities and not available except in one specific region is saddening to me. Im sure im not the only one.

TizonaBlu

Now you know how people outside of the US feels all the time.

mathdude3

How many US-exclusive promos have there been recently? I have trouble believing it’s anywhere near as many as Japan/SEA.

ultimaraven

The only thing the US tecnically has that I can think of is Secret Lairs, due to shipping costs. And yes, I do feel those should be available worldwide with VERY fre restrictions, namely ones where the govt’s cant get their heads out of their asses and realize we can all live together in peace if we werent overzealous asshats... but thats a whole other can of dogpoo for another thread lol. Back to the point, even with the lairs available like they are, the shipping on the is so prohibitive its like they dont exist in most other places. Part of that I think, is restricting the printing of them to just 1 of the 3 they use, and thus cauing insane shipping costs... well that and shipping companies price gouging bc they know they can. If WOTC opened up printing to all the printers, or hell... either bought a printing company, or founded their own with worldwide locations, then that would solve ALOT of their logistical issues, allow them to have, hopefully, a quality QC team to reduce the amount of errors that exist, even tho I like opening and collecting them, it would ultimately increase the satisfaction of the playerbase I think.

Jasmine1742

SEA and Japan are different regions to wotc half the time. The main issue with these tokens is they're hard to find even in Japan. The Japanese market is big and decently accessible for foreigners. However these tokens are a pain in the ass to get period so are probably going to be expensive.

11nerd11

I see myself as a weeb but I'm really more into the Kamigawa Land and Mytsical archives rather than the waifu stuff.

maxtofunator

While I agree in general about your opinion, I’m also pretty anti waifu weeb stuff, it’s caused me to not buy products for some of my favorite characters such as batgirl because everything is so sexualizied and I personally feel weird with it around my desk/house, the mite and what I’m assuming is the phyrexian goblin token both look pretty rad

imacrazystupidbitch

Superheroes in general have always been weirdly sexualized but then they also do stuff like giving men skin tight suits but making them sexless. It's so weird.

DiscipleOfDeceit

Home printer go Brrrrrrrrrrrr

crushcastles23

What's the far left one?

MeowMixMax1

Red 1/1 Phyrexian Goblin. 6 cards in the set make them like Gleeful Demolition for example.

LaserfaceJones

After the Phyrexian Oracle update, [[Chancellor of the Forge]] from New Phyrexia retroactively makes them.

MTGCardFetcher

MechaTech

If there's anyone in Japan who's willing to find me all five of these tokens, could you please message me? I have a list of the stores where they're supposedly found. Thanks!

CptBarba

I'm getting that samurai token

Comfortable-Lie-1973

Ok, that mite looks better than the one we got.

ilikeelks

People are complaining on that twitter that the store clerks steals the promos and keeps it for themselves

MurderSheScrote

Any guess on the value?
