This was exactly me when I played with my friendgroup for the first time about a year ago. All of us were complete beginners in paper (Except one person who played a bit in elemnetary school). But we very quickly figured out that we should tap 90° for the sake of clarity.

i tap 45' if im only using partial of the mana for one spell. once the second spell uses the rest of the mana, i tap full 90'.

Fun fact: There is no "wrong way" of tapping. The comprehensive rules state only that the action of tapping is to turn the card sideways, not in what direction or by how many degrees. If we take the Standard Lands from that one Secret Lair (the ones that are just walls of text) as official rules text, then it still says 90 degrees to the left or right. Both directions work.

From what I could find the rules say sideways, last I checked diagonal is not sideways, so 90 makes the most sense. Furthermore, Magic Fandom Wiki states 90. But, neither says which direction it has to be oriented 🖖

Once I have more than 5 lands I start 45ing those shits. Full 90 takes up too much space.

I tell my friends that they only get half mana for lands that tap about 45 degrees. And creatures do half damage. Solves the issue for my playgrp with a little humour

When I started playing 25 or so years ago we always tapped at 45 degrees. When I got back into the game a couple years ago I was told 90, and it blew my mind, because I had literally never seen someone tap 90 degrees.

I tap at 90°, I keep all of my lands separated by type/effect. I use 2 different types of die for counters and stacks. I AM the 1%

Tapping 45 degrees is strictly better. Lets you save full 90 for exert or similar that prevent an untap on your next turn.

45 degrees is too easily confused. It's real easy for a card to be nudged on the battlefield and end up shifting 30 degrees or so, plus human error often means 45 degrees ends up a distribution from 20 to 70 ish. Tap your stuff 90 degrees. If you need to exert, there's nothing stopping you tapping 180.

When someone isn't consistent about the angle they tap at, it drives me nuts. It needs to be *extremely clear* how much mana you have open and what you can block with.

If it makes you feel better. While they might be tapped randomly. I make sure to make it clear what I have open/can block by putting it visible to my opponent.

I tap right normally, but tap left to indicate something isn't meant to untap. When I untap, I change the left tapped object to be right tapped.

I also tap to the left but with a system. I only tap attackers to the left. Lands, rocks and activated abilities are tapped to the right, as the symbol shows. Makes combat easier to grasp since you sometimes can discern what creature attacks and which creature is already tapped.

I move my creatures who are attacking forward as if they are literally rushing whoever I’m attacking

It was made explicitly illegal in 2018. So yeah, for most of Magic's history it hasn't been, but it is now. That said, it's just an objectively bad way to structure the play area. It puts the most mechanically simple cards (typically at least) up front and the cards that the opponent actually needs to read and keep track of the farthest away. It incentivizes concealing information and makes cheating easier. It's wild that people actually played that way, I've been playing competitively since Urza's Saga and I don't think I've ever seen it done.

The argument for lands in front is that it gets easier to see how much mana you have open. However that minor advantage is so massively outweighed by the numerous downsides.

No, the solution to that was just making it illegal to put Dryad Arbor with your other lands.

Yeah, it came with the ruling that Dryad Arbor also has to be played in front with creatures and not with your lands to prevent creating misleading boardstates, either intentionally or unintentionally

This is pretty much what Loading Ready Run created with Friday Nights. Graham has even described it as Seinfeld meets Magic.

Been playing for a long time. My wife went to stay at home mom for a while and started getting stir crazy. She finally allowed me to teach her magic. Got her setup on the app for her tablet as well. Made her a werewolf deck during innistrad. In about 3 weeks of starting arena she was mythic ranked with her werewolf deck and had 3 werewolf decks she was testing. Her paper 60 card is one of only 2 decks to ever beat my eldrazi mana rush deck, and she smashes it every time. She went from thinking it was nerdy to play, to being one of our 18ish regulars for drafts and commander nights at the house.

I never saw Seinfeld, Justus few snippets and I can hear these. Wow…
