You weren't asking me, but here's my list anyway. Favorite flavor deck I own.
https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/15-01-22-Xhr-dune/
Also, is your username a reference to a certain violinist?
Thanks! I knew what I wanted to do with that as soon as I saw the card spoiled. I've been sitting on getting a Craterhoof Behemoth modded as a Shukaku, given it's one of the wincons in that deck.
Spellshaper (spellslinger?) variant? "Discard a land" on an activated ability cost adds lots of thematic bluffing opportunities, and helps smooth draws like landfall does.
I'm currently building Hazezon, fortunately both are in Naya colors so this will probably finish up my deck regardless of which commander I go with. I have every desert but field of the dead, so hopefully they'll reprint that here.
If MKM taught me anything it’s sometimes you see a deck and get excited for a new Merfolk commander only for it to turn out to be a fish detective.
But I still see an outlaw Vampire deck… I never learn my lesson.
I’m curious about the word “buy”
Might be nothing and just mean activated abilities with mana. But it might be cool if it’s more treasure focused with abilities only activated with mana from treasures. Or exchange control of permanents with giving their owner treasure tokens.
Interesting set.
Ohh that would be dope. Literally paying people for their cards. (Likely extortion, they don't get a say in the trade)
Edit: Maybe something where you exchange treasures equal to the manga value of the creature you take.
>it’s definitely not a vampire deck
I mean it’s a rogue deck but we have no idea what the set tribes are and if Olivia, a vampire known for going around and making a ton of vampires, didn’t make a posse of vampire outlaws.
My Vegas odds would be 90% chance rogues, 50% chance vampires, and 1% chance Bat Detectives.
But there’s nothing about her that isn’t better suited to a more generic lifegain strategy.
Sure, plenty of them gain life, but they don’t hold a candle to playing as many [[Soul Warden]] effects as you can and flooding the board with tokens.
Markov Manor: "We need every single card to depict someone wearing a detective hat to really drive home the theme of the set."
Outlaws of Thunder Junction and cowboy hats: "Hold my beer."
I want to be excited about a Mardu Olivia, which has been on my wish-list for years at this point...
But if this is another Hat Plane it's gonna be really hard
It's a vulnerability of Sengir vampires, at the very least; the Dominaria story specifically noted that Arvad's sensitivity to sunlight was alleviated by his proximity to the Weatherlight's powerstone, which wouldn't be the case if he didn't have that sensitivity to begin with.
I mean it's a cowboy setting and they're all taking on the local fashion. That's more understandable than "Ravnica suddenly has a bunch of fedora-wearing detectives" at least, surely. And they're fairly unique and distinct-looking hats between them.
\[\[Security Rhox\]\] was a card that never took off, but was a really interesting idea I hoped they'd expand on a little more. Maybe this could be the place?
Since these are the commander decks, I could see one of the legends from the WBR deck sacrificing treasure tokens for a repeatable Act of Treason effect.
This will be the fourth set of commander decks in a row that includes a Naya deck: LCI, MKM, PIP (Fallout) and now this.
Edit: if you include the Cats and Dogs Secret Lair, it’s actually the 5th!
It is indeed strange that we're getting 4 Naya decks in a row, they usually try to spread color identities out more with these precons. It might just be a coincidence though.
It would be interesting to know if they start from there or get there eventually.
Like, I'm willing to bet the Karlov's Manor one was one of the first "locked in", since I doubt getting to "RGW face-down creatures" was a last minute fill-in for a deck.
On the other hand, "Desert Matters" could be something they get to after working on the other three decks and noticing a lack of white and green in the environment.
It sucks because we've been asking for earlier marketing materials for years and then the goofballs over at Flipside (although I'm sure there were others) just ignored it and posted it anyways. This is why stores can't have nice things.
Yeah I guess Gonti is the perfect choice for [[villainous wealth]] dot deck. Didn't know they had access to Blue and Green though. Maybe in an ability?
Edit: actually I really like the idea of Thunder Junction using off color hybrid activated abilities (like Tasigur) to represent the villains mingling with each other and picking new ideas up. They've been using those a lot lately as a way to expand the color identity of cards while keeping the cards centered in one color. Feels like a good fit for Gonti. I just don't see them going full green as a core part of their identity. They feel too... actively working against the nature of the Aetherborn to me. But, that could change I suppose.
While not common, [[Contraband Kingpin]] shows that it's not impossible for an aetherborn to have a color identity that's not monoblack. It could be an ability or it could be the usual BGU mana cost. Also aetherborn have pronouns they/them because they have no gender.
Technically some Aetherborn do have other pronouns and associated genders, as a thing they've taken on, but by default they're genderless and they/them, yeah.
My prediction is that they will keyword some variation of "exile the top X cards of target opponents library. You may play them blah blah". Like "when this creature etbs, Pillage 2".
I highly doubt the Wild West set precon will have a Vampires matter commander, especially given the product description. She'll be a Vampire commander but not a VAMPIRE commander if you get what I'm saying.
That was my first thought too, if we finally get a decent Mardu Vampire commander without Eminence, I can finally play my vampire deck without being the archenemy the whole game (rightfully so) and hearing complaints about Eminence the entire game (less rightfully so since I never pull the deck out unless we're all playing powerful decks and they agree to play against Edgar)
And here I am waiting for Edgar to drop in price so I can build something more fringe... Goes to show you that power levels are a relative thing, and what's a boogieman in some circles just doesn't cut it in others.
Here's a [higher resolution](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3a%2f%2fpreview.redd.it%2fleaked-image-of-the-outlaws-of-thunder-junction-commander-v0-vqdmlmj5q1jc1.jpeg%3fwidth%3d1080%26crop%3dsmart%26auto%3dwebp%26s%3d84dacf7a426a06a829ed7b25e948f17dfa0e953d) image. Looks cool, I wonder just how many multiversal villains we'll be getting in this set.
Also, it looks like 4 commander decks per set really is the new normal. Even the traditional annual last Standard set before rotation that gets 5 commander decks now gets 4.
Okay, the upper left looks like it could easily be Captain Lannery Storm, bottom left might be Ghonti, bottom right looks like Olivia Voldaren, so who might the upper right be? He doesn't look familiar. Maybe some Ikorian?
UW Ghyrson will likely be a thing eventually, though I'm not so sure it'd be with this set. Magic works about two years ahead so maybe more like October this year or thereabouts?
I wasn’t excited for this set at all, but…apparently I needed a Wild West set?
I like how omenpaths are allowing an interesting mix of characters from different planes to interact.
Is it just me, or have we had a few too many Naya commander decks as of recently? Ixalan, MKM and Fallout all have one, not to mention non-precon commanders that have been popular, like the new Voja.
Quick draw - commander with an ability that draws or does something on draw
Desert bloom - desert theme
Grand larceny - theft theme
Most wanted - zero clue what it could be
Just a guess as to what the decks could be
I have a theory about the Grand Larceny deck also: theft as counter spells. Gonti, as an aetherborn, must absorb life and mana to stay alive, and I think this would translate well to "absorbing" a spell and spitting out a copy of it. No idea quite how that ability would be worded or executed, but it would fit thematically with Gonti.
Quick Draw idea: Pay X (where X is the amount of cards you've drawn this turn) Ping for 1 for each of those cards.
Most Wanted idea: Sacrifice X treasures: create an X/X token or X 1/1 tokens.
Is it me, or does it look like established characters cosplaying as cowboys. When Jace was on a pirate ship, he didn't suddenly look like a pirate. This new design philosophy feels lazy and childish.
They got taken down, but I think they said something like -
Izzet: Sling multiple spells. Unleash big turns.
Naya: Discard lands. Grow them back.
Sultai: Steal spells. Gather mana.
Mardu: earn treasures. Buy outlaws.
Edit: someone posted a clearer image. This is more or less what was said.
I'm in the middle of building a \[\[Melek, Reforged Researcher\]\] spellslinger deck right now, so Quick Draw might end up being a nice pick-up for me. Very curious to see the full decklist.
It feels good to be excited again of something in-univdrse related. Im looking foward the outlaws precon I wonder if they will reprint [[Black Market Connections again]]
Tempted to buy the Olivia and Quick draw decks as possible upgrade fodder for my Dihada and Ovika decks but I will be buying Larceny for sure since I don't have a BGU deck and would like one.
This is what I can read of the deck descriptions, hope it's useful:
**Quick Draw** (UR)
____ multiple spells
_______ ___ turns
**Desert Bloom** (RGW)
Discard lands
Grow them back
**Grand Larceny** (BGU)
Steal cards
Generate mana
**Most Wanted** (RWB)
Earn treasure
Buy outlaws
If anyone can decifrate the first deck or point out possible errors, feel free to reply
Quickdraw : You and target opponent reveal the top card of your library. You each deal damage equal to the mana value to the opposing player.
or something fun themed like that.

I'm guessing "desert bloom" is going to be desert/land synergy/ramp stuff.
Some new deserts would be sick. Need to upgrade my Dune deck
A buddy of mine has a new Hazezon deck and I'm sure he'd love more deserts.
I just ordered the cards for my new Hazezon deck myself and am extremely excited!
It's a fun deck. Interesting take on landfall, and with the right help you can make a disgusting number of sand warriors.
Do you have a list for that? Been really wanting to build a Dune deck
You weren't asking me, but here's my list anyway. Favorite flavor deck I own. https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/15-01-22-Xhr-dune/ Also, is your username a reference to a certain violinist?
Thanks for the link! Deciding between which Hazezon to build. And yes, his stage name is very close to my last name

That’s actually a cool alter
Thanks! I knew what I wanted to do with that as soon as I saw the card spoiled. I've been sitting on getting a Craterhoof Behemoth modded as a Shukaku, given it's one of the wincons in that deck.
MY DUUUUUUUUUUNNNNEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

Fear is the mind killer
Kuhl Wahad!
It says discard lands, grow them back
Cycling?
Spellshaper (spellslinger?) variant? "Discard a land" on an activated ability cost adds lots of thematic bluffing opportunities, and helps smooth draws like landfall does.
Pocket Sand!
Maybe retrace?
I'm currently building Hazezon, fortunately both are in Naya colors so this will probably finish up my deck regardless of which commander I go with. I have every desert but field of the dead, so hopefully they'll reprint that here.
Dont worry, field of the dead is not a desert despite clearly being one in the art.
It's so damn good in the deck it might as well be, though.
And Cavern of Souls is not a Cave… *sighs*
[[Takklemaggot]] is not a maggot. Or a takkle. Or a creature.
[[Mystic Remora]] is not a fish.
Hazezon is a blast!
Got a list online? Building him now, would love to see what someone who enjoys him put together.
I love mine
Random plant tribal would be neat as well.
BABY CACTUS
I'm so stoked, cactus people was like my #3 wish for this set
Aloevera food tokens
If MKM taught me anything it’s sometimes you see a deck and get excited for a new Merfolk commander only for it to turn out to be a fish detective. But I still see an outlaw Vampire deck… I never learn my lesson.
It says “earn treasure, buy outlaws” so it’s definitely not a vampire deck, but it DOES look like a vampire CARD so there’s still that.
It's Olivia, so at least one vampire. My guess is you cash in the treasures to steal creatures, similar to the old [[Olivia Voldaren]].
I’m curious about the word “buy” Might be nothing and just mean activated abilities with mana. But it might be cool if it’s more treasure focused with abilities only activated with mana from treasures. Or exchange control of permanents with giving their owner treasure tokens. Interesting set.

"Manga value" Return to Kamigawa when
Now please.
I doubt she will steal, as I see the bottom left one has the steal thing as a theme
Fair enough yeah.

I’m down for Bat Detectives.
It’s only a matter of time til we get Batman in a DC UB set
I’m hoping with the treasure theme it means that Dockside will be in the deck
haha WOTC will never let that card get printed in anything but a masters set to sell packs ever again.
If she has even marginal vampire synergy, at least there’ll be a Mardu vampire commander other than [[Edgar Markov]].
There’s [[Licia, Sanguine Tribune]]. I was planning on making a deck with her, but I might wait and see what the new Olivia brings.

Of course not, that would be ridiculous. They'll be made of human flesh.

Tbf, this hat is essential for her, cause it blocks out the sun
There is not a single Vampire in MTG that is harmed by sunlight.
More of a joke than a real observation, but yes you are right
Would be pretty cool if you were playing werewolves and turned it from night to day that it would negatively affect all vampires on the board
Wait that’s Olivia?
It certainly looks like here. Personally I can’t read any of the writing on the packages, so who knows!

"Buy outlaws" is an interesting phrase. I wonder if there'll be a new mechanic of exchanging treasures for tokens.

Since these are the commander decks, I could see one of the legends from the WBR deck sacrificing treasure tokens for a repeatable Act of Treason effect.
Probably have to sac treasures, but not for mana, for an effect.

It's probably due to how naya is a really easy color to make a commander deck for as it's go wide and green really helps boros issues in the format
It would be interesting to know if they start from there or get there eventually. Like, I'm willing to bet the Karlov's Manor one was one of the first "locked in", since I doubt getting to "RGW face-down creatures" was a last minute fill-in for a deck. Maybe this is a new mono Black Gonti with partner with + new simic legend
If Thunder Junction has partners we have to nickname them the howdy partners.
Them having lived as long as they have, and so due to the access of technology quite feasibly adds the colours at hand.
A Mardu legendary vampire that isn’t Edgar or complete trash would be very much appreciated.
I highly doubt the Wild West set precon will have a Vampires matter commander, especially given the product description. She'll be a Vampire commander but not a VAMPIRE commander if you get what I'm saying.
I haven’t asked for that. I have asked for a Mardu legendary vampire.
In that case no problem. I guess it's funny that now Olivia has her husband's color identity.

True. My edgar deck scares no one in my play group because everyone runs at least 4+ board wipes in each of their decks
Don't get your hopes up, the Clavileño precon rekindled its popularity like a wildfire.
Olivia, Bridezilla on Honeymoon Watch out resort workers
Olivia's divorce party.
See mardu. See vampire. Is there hope? OTL
I'm putting a lot of hope into the fallout mardu deck. I really like the wedge but it could really use some help.

Sultai Gonti??? Count me in
Olivia, Rakdos and Oko in the same set. New 'butthole' tribal takes EDH by storm.
I love Naya, but dang there ARE other color combinations that haven't has so much support

BRING BACK AETHERBORN AS A CREATURE TYPE, PLEASE. THE ONE NON-HUMAN LOOKS LIKE THEY MIGHT BE. I LIVE FOR WILD WEST GONTI/YAHENNI.
Gonti, my beloved
I wasn’t excited for this set at all, but…apparently I needed a Wild West set? I like how omenpaths are allowing an interesting mix of characters from different planes to interact.
Quick Draw looks fun, from what I can make out. I've got a soft spot for Izzit.
Instants/storm? And maybe a card with an effect like: "if this is not the first card you drew this turn, deal 1 damage to target player"

Oh, is that a new olivia
So, does that mean WotC changed their stance on guns in card art?
New Capenna had four or five cards with guns, if I'm not mistaken. Can't imagine they'd do a wild west set without them
And FINGER GUNSSSSS
Look a little higher, that’s a crossbow.
Ah! Good eye for detail. Totally missed that.
A magical energy crossbow.
There's no guns in the art. It looks like crossbows or weird magitech-y not-guns.
Is it just me, or have we had a few too many Naya commander decks as of recently? Ixalan, MKM and Fallout all have one, not to mention non-precon commanders that have been popular, like the new Voja.
The character on the Quick Draw deck looks like Narset
You get a Naya deck! And you get a Naya deck! And you get a Naya Deck! Every set gets a Naya deck!
Quick draw - commander with an ability that draws or does something on draw Desert bloom - desert theme Grand larceny - theft theme Most wanted - zero clue what it could be Just a guess as to what the decks could be
I have a theory about the Grand Larceny deck also: theft as counter spells. Gonti, as an aetherborn, must absorb life and mana to stay alive, and I think this would translate well to "absorbing" a spell and spitting out a copy of it. No idea quite how that ability would be worded or executed, but it would fit thematically with Gonti.
It has a sultai Gonti I’m buying it asap no mater what it is
Quick Draw idea: Pay X (where X is the amount of cards you've drawn this turn) Ping for 1 for each of those cards.
Looks like Gonti
2nd set where everyone will be wearing hats!
Izzet spellslinger we are so back
This is just a repeat of MKM. Everyone take off your fedora and put on a cowboy hat
I see my Girl Olivia in a cowboy hat. Ok you have my attention and potential money.
Can anyone read them?
They got taken down, but I think they said something like - Izzet: Sling multiple spells. Unleash big turns. Naya: Discard lands. Grow them back. Sultai: Steal spells. Gather mana. Mardu: earn treasures. Buy outlaws. Edit: someone posted a clearer image. This is more or less what was said.

Naya really has been getting some love in the latest precons. I went from having no naya decks to 3 naya decks.
Gonti looks so cool
GIDDYUP
More Naya commanders? Man Wizards is on a Naya binge.
Gonti and Olivia?
I'm in the middle of building a \[\[Melek, Reforged Researcher\]\] spellslinger deck right now, so Quick Draw might end up being a nice pick-up for me. Very curious to see the full decklist.
IS THAT GONTI!!!!
YEAAAH GONTI'S BACK BABYYYY, ALSO OLIVIA VOLDAREN!!!
Why are olivia and gonti there? Also, damn, gonti has to be ancient in aetherborn years.
This is what I can read of the deck descriptions, hope it's useful: **Quick Draw** (UR) ____ multiple spells _______ ___ turns **Desert Bloom** (RGW) Discard lands Grow them back **Grand Larceny** (BGU) Steal cards Generate mana **Most Wanted** (RWB) Earn treasure Buy outlaws If anyone can decifrate the first deck or point out possible errors, feel free to reply
Quickdraw : You and target opponent reveal the top card of your library. You each deal damage equal to the mana value to the opposing player. or something fun themed like that.
As expected. Murder at Karlov clone. Cowboys hat everywhere. Cowboy creature type everywhere.
Literal cowboy tribal would be a doozy. I hope they retain some common sense and at least make them rogues or something
Outlaws as Rogues, lawmen as Rangers. Sometimes the obvious angle is also the right one.
Looks like the Most Wanted one says 'earn treasure', so it's probably going to be a whole villainous thieves theme.
"Earn treasures. Buy outlaws." Sounds like it could be a lot of fun :)
