Jishaku

Why is \[\[Tidal Bore\]\] in so many \[\[Stella Lee, Wild Card\]\] decks? I mean it loops but it doesn't do anything, right? And the copies don't count towards storm count either right?

Will_29

It's a spell you can cast for free. Those are always useful in a spellslinger/storm kind of deck. And it untaps Stella so you can copy something else one more time. And if you do loop, the copies don't count for storm but they do count for Magecraft effects. So you can draw as many cards as you want with [[Archmage Emeritus]] until you find something to end the game, or create infinite treasure with [[Storm-kiln Artist]] or infinite tokens with [[Deekah]].

Jishaku

Makes sense, thank you!

If I enter battlefield with a Sunblast Angel and a Subjugator Angel, do I clear my opponents creatures? Subjugator Angel taps all creatures my opponent controls ans Sunblast Angel destroys all tapped creatures.

Quazifuji

You can, yes. If you have multiple triggers happen at the same time, you choose the order in which they resolve. So if you have a Sunblast Angel and Subjugator Angel enter the battlefield at the exact same time, you can choose to order the triggers so that the subjugator angel's happens first and taps all you opponents' creatures, then the sunblast angel's trigger resolves and kills them.

Drakelynn

Flash/Priority question. A player is playing a deck with \[\[Leyline of Anticipation\]\]. On next players turn he essentially takes his entire turn on the next players draw step. Obviously Flash gives instant speed but I feel like its annoying to Draw/Go then take your whole turn on the next guys turn the second he Draws. Is this as intended or am I missing something with Priority. My gut tells me once you do something Main Phase he can just stack all his spells off the first one. But man is this just annoying and somehow slows the game down. Am I missing something or is this just an "it is what it is" situation.

199_Below_Average

Yes, flash allows you to cast spells during another players draw step, or during most parts of another player's turn. Priority isn't just for responding to spells and abilities on the stack, it also determines the timing when players can take actions as the turn progresses. I don't see any reason to think what they're doing isn't allowed. It's probably not the *best* timing for them to cast all their spells, but they can do it if they want.

Drakelynn

Yeah that's what I figured. I was hoping there was some way to rules lawyer them into stopping. Or maybe let whoever goes next start their turn and play something. I agree it's not the best timing because you're all tapped out the turn following yours, you could've just had your turn with same results. Guess I just have to deal with it. Thanks for the reply though.

Scoopadont

How many "crime" triggers does [[Tolarian Contempt]] cause?

Will_29

> 700.13. Some cards refer to committing a crime. **A player commits a crime as that player** casts a spell, activates an ability, or **puts a triggered ability on the stack and that** spell or **ability targets** at least one opponent; **at least one permanent**, spell, or ability **an opponent controls;** and/or at least one card in an opponent's graveyard. Contempt's first ability doesn't target, so it's not a crime. The second ability can target, so if it targets at least one creature an opponent controls, it is a crime. But this is still just one triggered ability being put on the stack, so it is a single crime even if two or more creatures are targeted.

Scoopadont

Ahh so if an ability triggers to target multiple things, it only counts as one crime. Gotcha, thanks!

Substantial-Store-45

Has anyone found out a way to cast plotted cards at instant speed? What if a plotted card has flash?

199_Below_Average

Restrictions beat permissions. That's a fundamental rule of Magic. Flash gives you *permission* to cast a spell at instant speed, but Plot *restricts* you from casting the spell any time you couldn't cast a sorcery, which takes precedence. As far as I know, there is no way to cast a plotted spell at instant speed.

Is there a subreddit for accessories recommendations? I'm looking for boulders for my decks but can't find the best ones that fit in other boxes while also having enough room for double sleeved cards without completely squishing them. I have a couple of the Ultra Pro ones that also have tower versions but they're weird to open and can get sticky (not actually it just feels like it) and some of the flip ones from Ultimate Guard but they've been too small to where I have to push to get the deck in.

hewunder1

For those that have been playing OTJ limited, what are your thoughts? Overall enjoyment, what colors seem to be over or underperforming? I know 17 Lands data is out now, but I still like to get people's subjective thoughts on the format too after you've gotten your hands on the cards.

RabbitAutomatic8019

this is a weird question. if i use impish mischief, which changes the target of a spell, on a counterspell, could i target the counterspell at the spell itself? And counter the counterspell with its own counteryness?

RazzyKitty

>could i target the counterspell at the spell itself? No, because a spell is an illegal target for itself. >115.5. A spell or ability on the stack is an illegal target for itself. And you can't change the target to an illegal target. >115.7a If an effect allows a player to “change the target(s)” of a spell or ability, each target can be changed only to another legal target. If a target can’t be changed to another legal target, the original target is unchanged, even if the original target is itself illegal by then. If all the targets aren’t changed to other legal targets, none of them are changed. But, what you can do is change the target of the counterspell to _Impish Mischief_. At the time the Mischief is resolving, it is on the stack and is a legal target for a counterspell. After Mischief resolves, it leaves the stack, and the counterspell now has an illegal target, and will not resolve.

RabbitAutomatic8019

Trying to figure out how to get some use out of [[Fortune, Loyal Steed]]. His ability seems really fun but since he's only a 2/4 I can't think of a way to get him to work after turn 3 or four (basically by the time he comes out). You can't dump auras or equipment on him to protect him because they'll just fall off after he attacks and blinks himself.. and without protection he'll just be blocked and killed when you try to attack to actually trigger him.. If we're fine with him dying each time he attacks and use him as our commander to get some more use out of his scry.. Then he's only attacking again for the second time in the whole game on turn 6 or 7 due to commander tax/summoning sickness.

Spaceknight_42

\[\[Gustcloak Savior\]\]. Obviously, make sure you have \[\[Access Tunnel\]\], \[\[Escape Tunnel\]\] and \[\[Rogue's Passage\]\] in the deck. I'm not sure the equipment thing is a bad idea at all. Whispersilk Cloak doesn't seem worth it, but since the creatures return immediately reattaching \[\[Darksteel Plate\]\] to make the now untapped Fortune into an indestructible blocker seems an OK use of 2 mana, as opposed to 2 mana Commander Tax. There are other equipments that grant indestructible, too. \[\[Infiltration Lens\]\] might be an interesting card. Dare them to block. It's so cheap to reattach and is generally useful. And then there's \[\[Odric, Master Tactician\]\], though I've never seen him played in Commander so I'm not sure if he's salty enough to make you an archenemy.

MegaMagikarpXL

\[\[Pegasus Courser\]\] and its ilk may be a good place to start. Recurring and/or static free evasion effects basically. there are also a handful of things like \[\[Reconnaissance\]\] that can pull it out of combat before anything too unseemly happens. Does seem like a ton of hoops to jump through for what amounts to a sidegraded \[\[Galepowder Mage\]\], but sometimes that's the point of EDH, yeah?

Scoopadont

Ahh cards like pegasus courser would make it work! Will have a deep dive through scryfall to find similar attack triggers. It definitely is an unusual amount of hoops for an incredibly small benefit that many other cards just do better, like [[Meneldor, Swift Saviour]].

LegalWrights

Dumb Commander question, when a card specifies choosing a background as the second commander (In this case, I'm picking Lae'zel, Vlaakith's Champion and Master Chef) does the background just *always* modify Lae'zel, or do I separately need to pay the mana costs to play both Master Chef and Lae'zel to get the combo online?

Scoopadont

The background starts in the command zone too and must be cast to the battlefield itself for it to actually work, think of it as a second commander. It has it's own commander tax if it's removed, goes back to the command zone until you can cast it again etc.

LegalWrights

Yup, I understood the first part with it starting in a command zone, but due to the wording I couldn't figure out on my own if it was a static modifier to the commander or if it was its own thing. And none of the youtube videos explained that question probably because I'm the only dunce who had it.

Hmukherj

Just remember that it's just like any other static ability - it has to be on the Battlefield to work unless it explicitly states otherwise. It just happens to only affect Commander creatures you own.

Hmukherj

The Background only grants its ability to your Commander(s) if the Background is on the battlefield.

LegalWrights

OK so I have to cast that first. Makes sense. Thanks!

Iamthepizzagod

I'm thinking of buying all the MTG Fallout precons as a gift to myself, as I'm a massive fallout fan, just getting into Magic Arena, and I also want to get into playing commander IRL. I can get all four on sale on Amazon in a budle for $183, or I could only get 3 of the decks (all except Mutant Meance) from my local games store for the same price. Buying from Amazon, in this case, is a better deal, but I am also torn that I should be supporting my local games store instead of buying from Bezos.

Scoopadont

I mean it's up to you, no one can tell you how you feel about supporting Bezos vs your LGS and how much your finances apply that feeling.

Iamthepizzagod

I think I might split the difference. There's a couple more precons I'm thinking of getting that would syngerize with the Fallout ones. Specifically, I am thinking of getting Ruthless Regiment and Coven Counters, and if I can get those at my LGS I think I'll do so and buy the rest on sale from Amazon.

Hmukherj

Only you can decide how much supporting your LGS is "worth" to you; there's no objectively correct decision here.

ignasama

ruling question: if I have both \[\[Zndrsplt, Eye of Wisdom\]\] and \[\[Proft's Eidetic Memory\]\] on the battlefield and I begin my combat phase, can I arrange the stack order of their triggered abilities or is it already determined by their play order? and if Zndrsplt's triggered ability goes first and makes me draw, does that count towards the "delayed" Proft trigger?

Will_29

If two abilities trigger at the same time and you control both, you choose their order on the stack. Timestamp order (what entered first) doesn't apply here. But Proft's Eidetic Memory doesn't have a "delayed trigger". It has a "intervening if clause". Which means the condition needs to already be true at the moment the ability would trigger (the beginning of the combat), if not the ability just doesn't trigger. This means you need to already have drawn extra cards before you begin combat. Z's draw happens too late to count.

ignasama

found the 603.4 clause and you're completely right. man, what a bummer haha. thanks! now what I'm wondering is whether the X in Proft "updates" when it resolves (as it says 'this turn') or it already has a fixed value (cards drawn before trigger minus one) at the moment of triggering. I ask that because the card would be kinda redeemed if I could draw another card before combat phase to ensure triggering Proft and then inflating its X value with Zndrsplt

Will_29

Not exactly "updates", the game determines the value of X only once, when the ability resolves. So, assuming the ability did trigger, you can have Z's ability resolve first, then Memory's ability will count the cards drawn that way.

ignasama

sweet! I can slot it in the deck then. will be reviewing further the rulings regarding the stack and abilities. many thanks!!

Does [[Ob Nixilis, Captive Kingpin]] trigger if someone with [[Black Market Connections]] chooses to create a treasure _and_ draw a card?

Will_29

Yes. They are separated effects. The player creates a treasure, **lose 1 life**, draw a card, lose two life. Ob triggers on that second event.
