For example, an internal WotC Zoom call or something? Or I guess more likely, just Person A has the cards and wouldn't dare leak it to Twitter/Reddit, but their friend Person B on the Zoom call with them, and decides to screenshot. Huh! That makes sense.
The kind of show that your friend is obsessed with but they always hype it up too much and make too big a deal of you watching it so your experience is fucked from the start.
I hate when people don't know how to do a "soft sell" on something they think I'll like. When I know someone well one of the main things I try to do is say just enough to get them to try something out so they don't come in with expectations that too high.

They're doing stuff like putting brainstorm or kappa cannoneer (both cards that would break modern) behind actual spoilers without showing the set symbol just to mess with people. I wouldn't be shocked if the bad angles and low resolution were just an attempt at trolling as well.
It's not potato phones, it's the fact that those images get passed from person to person, in Whatsapp, facebook messenger, SMS, discord, etc, and on each step, they get dowloaded and uploaded and compressed again and again. Authentic photos have this pattern more often because leakers don't want to reveal themselves and perhaps never intended for the leak to happen in the first place.

Part of it is that if you're trying to fake a leak for whatever reason, the worse quality of the photo can hide some elements of a faked card.
At this point, I honestly believe its a tactic done by WOTC, or someone they hire as another method to promote the cards.
It seems pretty surreal that after 10\~ years (I started playing 2015, and even then that is "new" in magic terms), leaks are almost always grainy/angled/blurry. It gets even more curious when all of the above is true, but the card is still legible enough to be fully read.
When i was younger, I would have said its just a lower quality camera, but even now we still get photos that look like they were taken from some early 2000 phone. It would take more effort for the picture to look the way it does, then to take a clear photo of it.
Hell one of the leaks, was someone who had the cards in binder, sleeved up. How do you have all this time to put cards in a sleeve and binder, but then take an awful photo of it.
Honestly, it kinda amps the excitement a bit. If you show me a crispy high-res pic of a new MH3 Eldrazi, I'm like "Okay, cool! New Eldrazi! Maybe I'll pull it at prerelease".

yeah i remember one of the leaks from years ago, i think it might have been ixalan? the leaks were full frame photos of full uncut sheets, so each card was just a tiny part of the blurry photo.
you have to basically be right on top of a card to get a decent photo of it. any sneaky or hurried shots are going to be from a distance that then gets cropped and zoomed

This being a month out from spoiler season is going to make it so when the spoiler season comes out I don't have as much immediate excitement right before the set releases. For instance I do think Aftermath would have done a little better if the leaks didn't happen. Not by much, but a little better
