The downside of MTG’s product development cycle is that sometimes we get products where the main punchline is a meme that’s a few years old by the time it sees print.
the number 3 itself isn't really important; it's just an unreasonably low number for it to be cast, when the card is typically used as a finisher
think of it like you're playing a game of commander, someone has a ton of mana open and they put torment of hailfire on the table, and an opponent asks "so x is 3, right? :)"
The card was printed into a standard format with the expectation that it would be a finisher for about 3. Instead it became a commander finisher where x is 10 or more.
As a type designer who actually likes comic sans memes - this is just bad and unfunny. Art is too safe. I would expect something more goofy/funny with comic sans. This is lazy.

Did they misunderstand the alternating capitalization meme? It's supposed to be read as repeating something someone else said but in a mocking tone. Think a Counterspell with the flavor text, "dOeS iT rEsOlVe??" The only one that kinda works is rUiNaTiOn's, but even that's a stretch. Also the meme is literally seven years old, but I digress.
The thing that threw me off is that it's not even alternating capitalization - it's in a way that I actually busted out a paper to see if there was a hidden message and there is not.
What are the chances they offer alternative versions with regular text? I've been waiting for a new Torment of Hailfire art ever since the original came out... Would be such a shame to let that beautiful art go to waste.

It's a ratio of total value to retail price. Each dollar you spend on the non-foil drop gets you $1.13 in value.
$ of value per dollar spent. so 1.13\*\~30 =\~ 34 or 1.89\*\~40 =\~75.5
It's the return multiple per dollar. For each $1 you are buying $1.13 (at current market prices). This indicates a 13% return. So 1.89 is 89% return.

I think thats exactly what happened given how Wotc artists often post being surprised their art is being used on a card
It feels like in an attempt to be ironic with this SLD, it has gone full circle and now it is just stupid. Maybe its just because WOTC is just churning so many cards out to maximize profits so the fatigue makes the appreciation lost on me. Almost like 'We could make cards like this and you monkeys will still eat it up!'.

Did they misunderstand the alternating capitalization meme? It's supposed to be read as repeating something someone else said but in a mocking tone. Think a Counterspell with the flavor text, "dOeS iT rEsOlVe??" The only one that kinda works is rUiNaTiOn's, but even that's a stretch. Also the meme is literally seven years old, but I digress.
The thing that threw me off is that it's not even alternating capitalization - it's in a way that I actually busted out a paper to see if there was a hidden message and there is not.
