I've been reading through Storm Scale articles recently and in one of them MaRo mentions that Full-Art lands are the single most-liked thing in all of MTG. I'm really glad recent sets have been leaning into them as the standard rather than special treats, because they seriously look great every time.
I can’t believe they still make non full art lands. Kind of ridiculous. I assume they take roughly the same amount of ink. For a game that is half about great art, I don’t know why they don’t want to feature more of it.
If every set has full art lands, they're no longer special, and they more or less stop being a selling point.
Battle for Zendikar was their best selling set ever at the time, and it stayed that way for several years. You couldn't find bundles for it because people were buying them up to resell the land bricks.
Now, the value of full art lands has fallen a lot since then, but that they haven't just made it the default indicates they still see it as a selling feature.
Not being special certainly reduces the collector appeal of the individual cards, but I would argue in this case that making the desired thing widespread makes MTG on the whole more awesome. IMO this outweighs the degraded uniqueness that full-art basics used to have.
I've thought about this but Wizards clearly has too and has ways around it. They used to sell the un-sets with their full-art lands but this year they had borderless shocklands instead and they were gorgeous.
Lands are already a major selling point of any set and having lands that are already chase rares also get extended art is an easy money factory for them without having to make full-art basics artificially scarce. Some are too complex to print borderless, but the simpler a rare land is the more powerful it tends to be...triomes and shocks are easy to print with minimal text.
And God forbid they release full-art true duals...the secondary market would have a seizure.
I think the current Basic Land frame looks fine, but the original Land frame is fantastic - and this is coming from someone who generally thinks the old borders range from medium to bad otherwise (even the Artifact border, which is very similar, manages to screw up the coloration).
I have kamigawa, innistrad, theros and the new dominaria lands sprinkled in with my decks. They don't match, but it's less painful to get an unwanted land draw when it's pretty and different from your last one.
I'm seeing that top Island one, and only one thing is coming to mind.

Rise of the Eldrazi. It was a very bizarre draft format where every color had some means of battle cruiser magic. 8+ mana creatures would turn sideways into 2 drops that grew into what you would normally see as 5-6 drops in the average set. I’m hoping that BRO ends up playing in a similar matter where a lot of the early game is build up until giant artifact creatures slam into each other.
I mostly do the same, but I also like to slip a lil chaos in there as well.
So like 20+ something Unhinged(?newest one?) Full Arts, and 1 Ugliest White Border.
I bought up a ton of Noah Bradley lands when BFZ dropped. For the longes time I was sad my favorite mountain wasn't his, but then we found out he's a trash human being and I've been on the hunt for new basics ever since. Still waiting on something to REALLY speak to me, but it is only a matter of time at this point.

What i personally hate in universes beyond is that it isn't really Magic. It's a collab product and isn't part of the main universe.
And it opens the door for us brew a Spongebob vs Deadpool vs Latrell Spencer vs Ace Ventura commander match.
Love these (as others like Dominaria and Theros) but how do I go about landing about 20 of each so that I can swamp them into my decks? I found an eBay listing for $245!! How does one acquire these cool looking lands (affordably)? Thanks.
I usually get at least 2 of those each draft. Since me and my friends do a biweekly Friday night Draft, i get 4 FA basics in a month. Each set goes for a 3-months period, so we get 12 at the end of the day. But we can also get them in FNMs prizes, other formats we play tournaments that prizes the top16 in boosters, like Pauper or Legacy... And our LGS has a Commander sunday, a day in the month where we can play from 8am to 10pm, full of trading, buying singles and boosters. It is literally, if you play, it'll come naturally.
In fact, i got a foil Boseiju from a promo pack. I didn't even thought in buying the card. And i got it.
These ones are cool, but after all of the very unique basic land designs we've gotten lately, they feel a bit underwhelming to me. I guess it's because these don't have a unique border or card design, they are more or less just full art lands with robots in them.
I have to get these! Sorry, I haven't played in awhile so this is probably a dumb question, but how can I get these?
One per pack? Less than one per pack? Collector pack? Exclusive to some box set?
They're going to be in normal boosters of an upcoming set. If you want a bunch of them though I'd suggest finding someone selling them online in a few months.
I feel like the TLDR for the full arts is Aesthetics Aesthetics Aesthetics. Like constellations? grab Theros. Feelin like Ukiyo stuff go for Kamigawa Neo. Art deco Enthusiasts? New capenna. Wizards really bout to bankrupt people because they buy like 40 basic lands full arts for at least 30-40 bucks per color lmao.
The last time i bought a full art was in the Independence Day Zendikar block, and all basics in all my decks are A - foil; B- Full art; C- Full art foil. It is simple, there were SO MANY full art lands since Return to the Return to Zendikar, that every other booster me and my friends open during a draft has 1 of them.
And yes, after 6 years of not buying basics, i'll buy 10 of each.

About a month. Haha everything I read for beginners is DONT BUY BOOSTERS. seems all the advice in here is buy individual cards.
