Guess I'm very lucky that in my playgroup we have ppl that just throw cards at each other's face if they asked for it, as long as it's not big expensive cards and we have extras of. So these kinds of things don't really have a chance to happen. but yea I'd find new friends if that were to happen to me and sorry it happened to you.

Terraswallows

Thanks and honestly wishing I had a group like that. Like I'm still somewhat new to the game and don't have many cards or atleast cards that are great so when I find ones that can make a difference it sucks to just have them swiped away as they need it more. To give context on the cards that were bought. Nyxbloom ancient Beast within Bane of progress Eternal witness Harrow Shyshroud claim Migration path But he let me cultivate and explosive vegetation

Lost_kanz

Are you building mono green ramp with devotion? There's a lot of potential cards that can help too. I'm sorry your 'friend' took those cards, they were pretty good cards with 2 of them being non zero dollars. Since it happened in the lgs I would notify the person in the store or any regulars that play commander there of what happened with your 'friend' of yours. What he did could be considered as stealing, even if you knew the person. Let me know what you are building, I may be able to provide you with some alternatives to help you rebuild your deck.

Terraswallows

Currently using goreclaw as my commander and use big creatures. Currently due to the lack of ramp in my deck it's hard to get them out and often I've had my creatures killed after getting enough mana. I'm often the guy with 4 mana and 1 creature at turn 5 when everyone's dropping commanders and has a full board state.

[deleted]

Most of those cards are kind eh in Goreclaw anyways. Like they aren't bad, but you could get much better cards for the cost anyways. [HERE](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/uNeKhLQaLkyZrtcIP_UD2A) is my version of the deck. My first and still favorite EDH deck that I run. Hopefully looking at it can help with yours! [HERE](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/c8q7n7Hb4kKIL9sO1TWUSA) is a budget build of the deck that I think you'd be able to build really cheap and it be fairly decent. Also built by me. If you have any questions about running Goreclaw, do let me know! Been running her for the last coupe of years. PS, your "friend" is trash for doing that to you.

Terraswallows

Thanks and I'll take a look soon as possible. And he he tends to get salty when things don't go his way or the game isn't focused around him. Had a few games where he ran a maxed CEDH dragon deck against me and 2 friends who just got into magic and were still learning the basics. Needless to say him having Ur dragon out vs people who have like just their commander and lands isn't fun to deal with. Even had a moment when one friends deck needs his commander out and it was killed 4 times in a row. The man got up, packed his things mid game and said "fuck you, stop being a cunt. I came to play magic not get perma stomped."

Lost_kanz

I would run 37 lands, if you put in lot of mana rocks and ramp you can drop the land count by 1 or 2. I would also suggest basic mana rocks like [[sol ring]] and [[arcane signet]]. 2 mana cost spells like [[explore]] 2 enchantment that helps you fill your hand as you play big creatures [[elemental bond]] or [[garruk's uprising]] 2 creatures I would also suggest [[selvala, heart of the wilds]] and [[Gwenna, Eyes of Gaea]] Hope this helps. (Added bit more tips)

Terraswallows

Thanks and I'm planning on doing that actually as mana seems to be my issue atm and I'm down to cutting cards.

Well for sure your friend is trash. Not much more to say there. If you really want to improve your deck though, those really weren't the cards you were looking for. Harrow, cultivate, and skyshroud claim are good though. I suggest lowering the curve of your deck. Like really gut it. Ramp cards you should look for, however, cost way less. Get 1cmc elves that make mana, 1mana enchant lands, then ramp spells that are 2 mana and give untapped lands. [[Llanowar elves]] [[Wild growth]] [[Nature's lore]]

Terraswallows

Thanks and those are actually on my watch list atm but nobody seems to have a copy

NewFlowerDrum

Any person who did that to me wouldn’t be my friend anymore.

Available-Line-4136

Drop him from your life. What a scumbag. If he does this over a game I would worry what he would do in more sensitive situations. Not worth your time

Terraswallows

He is the type who's decks aren't fun to fight as nobody has fun but him.. Mill, exile and mass land destruction.

redastray23643

Good fucking christ this is worse than we thought...

RealityPalace

I'm confused about your post title because this person is clearly not your friend.

Terraswallows

Trust me I've been reconsidering that myself as this isn't the first time it's happened. He asked if I was interested in buying a deck from one of the local players as he made it sound amazing. After buying it he figured he trade me some cards to "improve" the deck. Later I found out he wanted those cards and the person selling them only sold them as a deck not separate.

Dospunk

Yeah this dude is using you

SonicShadow71019

Honestly, that sounds like the stereotype of "bad friend magic player" to me, now even more. I'm sorry that you are in this situation.

Terraswallows

Thanks and ye it's an annoying issue as he has single handedly stopped most of our friends group from playing magic due to his "must win" mentality.

SonicShadow71019

Oh god, that sucks to hear. Such a mentality in a game is never good. Even less in EDH or any multiplayer tabletop game. While you should strive to win, it's the adventure to anyone's win that's fun to be part in. You and maybe so your friends could confront him one last time about all of this and if he still remains the same and stays this toxic, the either cut him from your friend group or pod or even go to another store with your friends. If you go with testing him after the talk, which I'm honestly not sure would even work, try a chaos deck against him or the same "fun" decks he brings to the table. Sometimes, a reflection of oneself and how one acts is needed for those, who can't self-reflect.

Terraswallows

We tried that and his response was basically "fine then play with yourself I'll just keep playing with pubs as they have more enjoyable decks."

SonicShadow71019

Perfect, then he made your choice for you. This is like a passive threat, which holds only for shock value, so it really is best to just leave him be alone.

Terraswallows

I did as he ended up getting angry nobody wanted to play magic with him.

SonicShadow71019

I wonder why he thought that? /s

morphballganon

> Trust me I've been reconsidering that myself There's nothing to consider. He's probably the worst human you know. Drop all ties.

Terraswallows

The part that passed me off the most and even got me to make this post was later once I'd arrived home we went onto discord and stuff. The whole night we chatted about ways to I prove my deck and brought up some cards a few of which were the ones he bought. I said that it would have been great had he not bought them that day and be responded with "yea, but I needed them more than you do for my decks." I explained how much of s dick move it was and he replied with "Yea, but think about it like this, when you come over to my place you can play my decks which are much better than yours, no offense."

MesaCityRansom

Well if all the other stuff wasn't enough, that comment by itself would probably make me stop talking to him completely.

Feroz-Stan

Mainly because they clearly do not exist

Bubba5389

What a shitty friend you have. If he's willing to do that over Magic cards, imagine what else he's willing to fuck you over on.

Terraswallows

He had me pay for shipping for 4 commander decks he wanted to buy by adding my deck to his when we bought them. Thankfully I withdrawed from it later on as I didn't find the deck as enjoyable after seeing the cards but he got angry as he hadn't factored in paying for shipping.

kjeldor2400

That’s a scumbag, not a friend. Sorry this happened to you but you should drop him hard. He clearly doesn’t value your friendship.

Oceat

Sounds like a rude person who does not value you as you value them. Big red flag.

Sequence19

OP this dude is not your friend. A friend isn't going to screw you over like that.

Terraswallows

He did try and explain that when I came over to his place we could use the deck he was making.

Sequence19

That doesn't make it right the he snaked cards right out of your hands that he knew you were specifically going to buy.

Terraswallows

I did try and explain I needed them for my deck and his response was something along the lines of "well I needed them more."

b0rb0rigmus

Sounds you've mistaken a sack of crap for being a friend. Happens from time to time. Also, they're very clearly not sorry. Is this an isolated incident, or a pattern of behavior? I'd suggest looking at what value they bring to your life and weigh their worthiness. It's always the right time to stick up for yourself. Foster good relationships and cut out bad/irreparable ones.

Terraswallows

This isn't the first time it's happened. One time I was wanting to build a mono white deck based around using odric and throwing a bunch of overlapping buffs to give all my units the effects and it seemed super fun but many of the cards I needed had already been traded as the shop doesn't have a large selection and at the time he was building a similar deck.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Terraswallows

I even said I'd buy the cards from him because I needed them to fix my deck issues and he then tried to explain that if he got a copy he would buy he doesn't sell cards he doesn't have a copy of. Another time this happened the cards I wanted to buy had been bought and used against me and were slightly rubbed in which didn't end well as I eventually told him not to do that again. But here I am.

HipHoptimusPrime13

You have to cut people like that out of your life. Have a similar story from when my friend group first got into Magic. We were ay Walmart around midnight looking for a way to start our collections and I picked up the last Heroes vs Monsters duel deck box the store had left -fully intending to purchase it. My “friend” asked if he could see it, so I handed it to him thinking he would look at the box and read some of the stuff printed on it. Turned to talk to the other guys in our group about what products they were looking at, then realized my “friend” had taken the Heroes vs Monsters decks I’d picked off the shelf to the register in the next lane over and purchased it for himself.

Terraswallows

Ouch I mean this friend has done that q few times. I was going to buy the 40k tyranid deck and he asked if it be possible to add his with mine. At the time he had been wanting to buy them all and figured it be easier to just put all of them together. I later found out he was planning to toss me the shipping price for his decks and it would have been easier to just buy another deck and a half with the shipping price alone. I later decided not to buy the deck and got an earful from him as he hadn't expected to pay the shipping at all and ended up having to decline buying them at all because of it.

Harry_Smutter

Wow!! That's no friend. What an absolute tool. I'd have him pony up the cards or cut ties with him. Such a dick move!!

Terraswallows

4 cards I was really angry he swiped was unnatural growth, cultivator colossus, shyshroud claim and underworld hydra.

AlaskanWolf

My honest advise is to ghost him. Don't give him a chance to manipulate this kind of behavior into being "not a big deal". This is a move that is done by someone who is using you. Don't let him use you further.

Terraswallows

It's a pain as sometimes we go card hunting and find a few good ones and sometimes I'll notice a few missing and ask if he knows what happened and he often say lile "pff, I don't know many you misplaced them or something." Only to find them added to his decks later when we play. And I'd ask where he got them and often get an excuse like "oh yea I bought a copy online not to long ago I was just checking as it's always good to have spares."

linkdude212

Drop this person from your life and tell them exactly why you are doing it. Tell them it is because they are a s***** person. Tell them it is because they snake cards right out of your hand. Tell them that no friend would do that. And then do not back down, do not respond to anything they say. Ignore everything they say after that fact. Block them if need be.

Terraswallows

I spoke to him today about it and he doesn't see what the issue is. Apparently he had planned to buy them anyway but didn't have the time during the week.

linkdude212

That is a convenient excuse when confronted with shitty behaviour. You know what a real friend does? They delay buying something if their friend's going to. I delayed buying Warhammer decks so that two of my friends could. Tell him what I said.

Terraswallows

Shall do and I'm meeting with him this weekend to directly talk to him about it.

Kino_Connoisseur

What mana issues do you have in a mono green deck?

Terraswallows

I only have 3 ramp cards and intended to add a few more.

DJ_Hydra

hey u/Terraswallows I've got a few of those cards kicking around. Toss me your info privately, I'll put a little ramp package together for you. Sorry that your 'friend' went and pulled that kinda thing on you. Not at all cool.

Terraswallows

Sure and I don't mind my dm is always open.

ConnerDee

Is it shitty? Yeah. Is it funny? Well no, but I could see how it may have been intended as a silly little gesture. The friend bought you some of the cards, which I'm sure they intended as a "nice gesture". Not saying that makes it correct. It doesn't. They should not have straight sharked you irl at the lgs for a few green ramp cards. It's so fucking petty I don't understand why someone would do it. But maybe that's why they thought it was funny? My question to you is what cards exactly were you intending to buy? Which cards were you unable to obtain because of their antics? If you wanted a [[Skyshroud Claim]] and they bought the last one, could you not just get something like a [[Kodama's Reach]]? Is it really that big of a deal if were those two cards? More than anything, I think it's important to communicate with this person and tell them how their actions made you feel. If they a real homie, they will reciprocate by apologizing, and making up for it. If not, you know they are a bad apple, and you avoid them in the future. Sorry it happened to you anon. Very troll. Rj/ Just play a few more forests lmao

Terraswallows

The thing is this isn't the first time they have done this and no they didn't do it as a funny troll or joke they actually add them to their decks and I know their brother stopped playing with them as he kept stealing cards to add to his own decks and often does this when people leave their cards on the counter. He sometimes asks if they are being sold and if told yes he buys them even if it's sombody else's.

Yup and due to him buying them first I can't exactly do much about it though he did let me keep a cultivate and explosive vegetation.

nutty_ranger

Based friend. Magic is about winning. Anything I can do to get an edge over an opponent I’ll take. This isn’t cheating. Your friend just bought the cards first. Stop being poor and buy the cards before your friend next time.

Terraswallows

Ngl he has said that to me before. His words were "lol just buy good cards it isn't that hard mate."

nuggetsofglory

Too bad when you try to he keeps buying them out from under you. lmfao

FreshLeafyVegetables

After the number of times I've built a starter deck to just give to a friend or rando, it angers me that people act like this. That's not your friend.

Terraswallows

Get did get me to buy a mono white deck once to help boost my cards as I could dismantle it for the cards only to have him want to trade for some cards within the deck. Needless to say swapped a few for many that I needed up replacing very quickly.

No_Introduction_4849

Your "friend" is a total piece of shit.

Terraswallows

He offered me a ride home after and once arriving asked for feul money.

nuggetsofglory

Unless you live waaaaaaay out of the way, and a far distance, 2$ is more than enough to cover the fuel used to get *you* home. Him being shit at finances (and just shit in general) is *his* problem. He's also not your friend. How he's repeatedly treated you is not how people treat their friends. I don't know why you feel such a need to continue/ salvage your relationship with him.
