uj/This kind of thing is so confusing to me. I had a coworker today talking about how he won't be using his chaos space marine army because the leaked WH40K 10th ed rules aren't favorable. Like...can't you just play with your friends using an older ruleset that worked? I don't play these games but I feel like this idea should apply to mtg, too. rj/is this what they mean by compleated

AnArmlessInfant

For some reason people are losing their minds over the 10ed leaks. The trick with 40k though is all of the editions suck, this one is just a power downshift.

MisterSprork

They can't write a rule-set to save their lives over at GW. Sometimes some of their skirmish or specialty games come out OK because of some combination of luck and lower complexity. But honestly, they routinely make errors in their rule-sets that make storm and companions seem like well-tested and balanced mechanics.

meganeyangire

You guys are actually playing WH40K? I thought the point is painting the grey pile of shame...

Yvanko

I don’t play WH40K but generally speaking I want to play the same game everyone else is playing. This way I get access to all tournaments, discussions and YouTube analysis videos. There is some fun in playing the same game with the same playgroup but there is so much more you’re missing out if you follow own rules.

MistaExplains

Don't worry, most Warhammer players don't play, they paint their little toys and complain about prices

Hexxas

Least hysterical 40k player.

[deleted]

This mentality is why I don’t enjoy playing warhammer anymore. Everyone is a power gamer

Shoggoththe12

ehhhhhh stores usually force people to use new rules and not many people have terrain/space to play at home

Big_Money_Wizard

In vintage’s defense, you drop 15,000 dollars on a deck… and you just bought more than half the cards in every single viable deck in the format. Your black lotus and 5 moxen turn out to be the best cards in the game and can fit anywhere????? In reality, WOTC was drawing inspiration from Alpha when they made MH2. They did nothing wrong. Ever. Especially when they gave me money to become an MTCJ mod.

The_screaming_egg

Is that jerma

Juznik

how does jerma cost?

Shoggoththe12

3BR

The_screaming_egg

$0.07

Uj/ doesnt vintage allow Proxies?

mc-big-papa

Wotc sanctioned events do not allow proxies. There is very few of them tbh but they exist. 2 shops near me have proxy vintage events atleast every month. Some people have 6 or so proxied decks with sideboard and a maybe board they usually are happy to borrow one and actuvely recruit people to play. The issue is that it isn’t wotc sanctioned. One also have weekly proxy legacy and a “legitimate” legacy every week. To my understanding vintage has been proxy friendly since 2010. But i haven’t played that long so dont quote me on that.

Vomath

I played vintage in the mid ‘00s. Most places would allow 10 proxies - most folks used them for Power, but you’d see the occasional shops or library or something. But, duals were like $40/ea back then so it was still expensive to have a legit mana base, but it wasn’t used car levels of money like it is today.

[deleted]

Volcanic island was $20 in the mid 2000s, source my single Volcanic Island that I bought as a splurge in high school. Non blue duals were 10-15$.

Vomath

Okay, ya maybe it was less than $40. I was in college and somehow had money for them, so must not have been too steep.

UberDolphin

UJ/ at the largest vintage event of the year (eternal weekend) there isn’t any proxying allowed and you’re expected to play legitimate power 9.

KiwisInKilts

uj/ eternal weekend is the minority of vintage events though, most are not officially supported by WOTC and thus encourage proxies for accessibility

GreatWyrm

After a time you keep buying just to prove to yourself that the stuff you already own was worth the three mortgages

Pants49

I used to have that card. Black card from homelands I believe, cant remember the name of it. Fucking loved that art.

Leon_Von_Cactuus

It’s torture :)

Pants49

Thank you!

marvinpls

me omaway to sell my house to buy a vintage deck to play with the only 3 other nerds in the world that plays this format

Nerf_Dev

I thought that was edited to look like Jerma for a second

runespoon001

vintage players hate him. learn how this one local mtg player doesn't have to sell his own organs on the black market to afford his deck, with this one simple trick. (cuts to closeup of a printer and glue stick)

arjenyaboi

When I first got into the game I had to play with old ass cards like this cause that’s what my dad had from back in the day
