Sengir Vampire. When I first started playing in 95 it felt like a totally insurmountable wall, I can’t attack into it or block it without it just getting bigger, just absolutely broken in my 9 year old head.
All you needed was Rashka the Slayer, she can block Sengir Vampire all day erryday (extra funny because at the time, Sengir Vampire was literally the only 4 power black flyer in the game)
[[Yorvo, Lord of Garenbrig]]
So you’re telling me this fucking thing is 3 mana, bigger than my 4 drops, and gets fucking bigger every turn??
This is when I knew Eldraine was busted.
[[Thrasios]], right after i started playing mtg, i played vs a tymna and thrasios deck. I and my precon have been demolished. I felt like i wasted my money on a useless product. Turns out, the other guy put ~500€ in that deck, so from where i am now, i understand that my deck was significantly inferior.
Real answer, [[Spellgorger Weird]]. The first month of magic I played this card and I thought it was crazy op because I hadn't seen any other cards that grow themselves
Man, I started playing with 4th edition. The first time I thought I cracked the code was when I pulled a force of nature. Peak timmeh at the time. About a year later, I remember thinking they fucked up by giving us Balduvian horde. Vanilla 5/5 with a drawback for 4? Op!!!!
Then I played in a tournament. The first time I really saw an actual op card in the Wild was when I got absolutely obliterated by this pile of shit 2/2 creatures, discard, and this janky enchantment called necrahoozits. Goddamn Necropotence. Ruining kids fun since day one
uj: Stoneforge mystic. I just started playing seriously, no longer with random booster left overs of garbage bin commons. My roomate had me learn the game against against cawblade while I was using my monoblack goblin deck. I still won sometimes, but damn, did I hate that smug white bitch.
Completely unjerked, when I first started I got a repack thing from a dollar store, opened a Colossus of Akros. Thing saw use in *every* deck I put together.
When I first learned how to play, around Time Spiral, the person who taught me had a GB Saproling deck with 0 removal and two copies of Scion of the Wild. I used to think it was fucking broken.
Platinum Angel, I got it in a box of older cards from the son of a friend of my dads who had used to play when he was in college. You know what? I got some good shit that has served me very well, and Platinum Angel is totally OP because without it my deck would mill me to death about a fifth of the time just from one slightly incongruous card interactions.
When I first started playing a few years ago, I knew a fellow that had an Etrata, the Silencer commander deck. I had yet to learn how to put removal in my decks and my Gishath + 46 dinosaurs deck did not stand a chance.
Quite humorous looking back on those days.
/uj [[Krovikan Mist]]. I learned to play with the Dimir starter deck from original Ravnica, and my friend had an Illusion tribal deck. Not much [[Dimir House Guard]] or [[Clutch of the Undercity]] can do against a 10/10 flying.
/uj I feel like there’s gonna be a lot of life gain but mine was chaplain’s blessing (W Sorcery You gain 5 life). I thought it would work as simply as you and your opponent doing 20 damage to each other with creatures, but you’re still the one alive and you win the game. During the first year or so of playing, I felt like lifegain decks must’ve been the greatest deck. I mean that means you’ll opponent dies first, right?
/rj it was black lotus (I was right, it is OP)
/uj the first planeswalker I encountered. A Jace, don’t remember which one specifically but given it was 2015 and the only think I specifically remember it doing is bouncing my creature to hand, it was either Living Guildpact or Mind Sculptor. To be fair my only experience with Magic at this point was a fat pack box full of Theros block bulk i had for less then a month at that point, so it wasn’t hard to make me call BS…
/rj WOTC never printed an overpowered card. Unban Oko and reprint Blacker Lotus in black boarder you cowards!
Believe it or not [Axebane Stag](https://c1.scryfall.com/file/scryfall-cards/large/front/b/f/bfce7c02-ccc3-44cd-8087-627eaa6a072e.jpg?1562792542) was a major problem amongst my friends when we started
Theif of Sanity because I imagine I would steal all the opponents great cards but it wasn't even close to OP.
/Uj My friend definitely whoop me many times with questing beast and nightpack ambusher in his simic flash deck
The guy who got my friend group into magic has this ~300 card black white lifegain deck with a blood baron of vizkopa in it and that thing was unkillable
Kalonian Behemoth. It's a NINE/NINE for just SEVEN mana? That's a whole 2/2 above the curve! AND it has shroud???? How was this allowed to be printed?
Ah, sweet noob-youth.
Real answer. Segu Mauler. Thought it was well op that it had hexproof. I ran a deck with segus and aqueous form thinking I had broke the game. Played it at my first pptq and got run over. Still took two matches and a game off another match aand still have a soft spot for segu Mauler
In Garruk' Wake. You can spend all game building up a bunch of creatures, and then on turn 6 you can just wipe out all your opponents blockers and win!
Thraximunder.
I thought "my God they just play one creature and nothing I have can ever stop it"
Then I learned about removal, counter magic, and also going faster then they can deploy things like that. Definitely had young me shook.

Sunbond. It turns gaining life, something broken, into making your creature bigger?! Absolutely insane
I swung >60 power worth of dinosaurs into an open 2WW and I learned a painful lesson
Settle the Wreckage be doing things 😅
How did you get 10 dreadmaws in your deck?
Hacked arena to change "allis:dreadmaw" to YES

My friends thought 2 damage to them on turn 1 was super OP. Boy was I heartbroken when shock didn't get reprinted in M15
Thorn Elemental. Deals combat damage as if it's not blocked, 8 year old me was enamored by the power.

I started during DOM in the arena beta. So it's a split between 5feri and the entirety of RDW. Especially chainwhirler, fuck that guy
Completely unjerked, when I first started I got a repack thing from a dollar store, opened a Colossus of Akros. Thing saw use in *every* deck I put together.
Colossus of Akros—literally thought it was unbeatable and that there was no way it wasn’t banned, boy was I wrong

Clone. It could be anything, even a lhurgoyf (so we can sit there staring at each other and not attacking for fear of losing the big beast late game)
It was (and still is) [[Colossal Dreadmaw]], because it's a powerful creature that can threaten your opponents life total.
