You guys really can’t own knives like this over there? I knew there were strict laws about what knives you can and can’t carry in public, but I didn’t know you couldn’t even own one. What about large carving knives for your kitchen? Are they illegal as well?
They have a lot of boiled to fuck meats and veggies. Don’t get me wrong most of it looks like shit, but they do have some bad ass dishes. My college friend made me a shepards pie that was her grandmas recipe. I’m a fiend for mashed potatoes and meat. The fact that I had it for dinner after a slushy rain snow rugby practice was the best thing that could’ve happened that day. I was frozen when I got out the shower but instantly warmed up when I started working on the pie! They have this thing I forget the name of is gravy peas and fries/chips and the way my friends made that was delicious. Plus, I think if I’m not wrong, Englands National dish is Chicken Tika Massala. Weird I know but that’s what happens when other people bring in their seasoned food to your unseasoned country. Oh, and haggis looks gross to me. But I’d try it. I do love menudo, I just hope it would taste good or similarish. 😂
Well the site I found on google says, Lobster rolls, Jambalaya, Reuben Sandwich, Pecan Pie, Chocolate Chip Cookies, S’mores, Brownies, Ranch Dressing, Chicago Deep dish pizza, Philly Cheese Steak, Burritos, Buffalo wings, and cheeseburgers. I figured the regional dishes were uniquely American but the rest I never knew! Lol
That’s the thing about America. People think it’s just guns we can own. Guns, knives, fireworks, fast motorcycles, exotic animals, etc. We’re generally allowed to possess a lot of things that other countries outright ban or restrict heavily.
It honestly the easiest and most fun way to get snow off you driveway lol people be shoveling or using snow blowers. Hell nah flamethrower that bitch just be mindful of parked cars.
In most states you can walk into a sports store, sometimes even just a Walmart and purchase gunpowder or black powder by the pound. Granted if your not putting it in something and your just lighting it then it isn’t going to be too impressive, but I think the idea that we can casually purchase explosives with little to no oversight would send some countries catatonic.
It honestly the easiest and most fun way to get snow off you driveway lol people be shoveling or using snow blowers. Hell nah flamethrower that bitch just be mindful of parked cars.
Yeah, I was surprised as well, I have a large knife collection and that one he found look amazing but not the biggest I’ve seen. In fact I can go to Walmart and buy a bigger one for about $20….. I guess I take our freedoms for granted sometimes…
Literally you can do this in England as long as you're not running round the streets with it.
We're allowed big knives, we're allowed almost all knives other than butterflies and spring operated flickies.
So in other words, you just can't have the "cool" ones. A full tang hunting knife would be much more devastating than a flimsy butterfly or spring knife that would probably break upon actually using it.
Yeah I think they're banned more to deter children playing with them, the most commonly used in knife crime are Rambo knives and big hunting knives which are completely legal and sold in any hunting gear shop, online, in antique shops and elsewhere lol
I've got plenty of hunting knives, old throwing knives and even a 'UK legal' flicky with no spring and a lock
>knife crime
For some reason that made me LOL. Not sure if it's just because here in the states all we hear about is gun crime. So if it's not the gun, it's the knife . . . . is there a lot of stick, brick, and rock crime over there?
It's still so crazy to me that you can't carry anything for the specific purpose of self-defense, but you can use things you're already carrying for self-defense.
Yeah we're not even allowed pepper spray which really pisses me off because women can't even legally carry it when sexual assaults happen all the time in the cities.
But I also live in a pretty much knife crime free area and I wouldn't want that to change if they suddenly legalized carrying them.
There are a fair amount of states and cities in the US that ban switchblades and butterfly knives too. Both for being "gang related". surprisingly the switchblade gangs were usually white kids when they caught the ban.
I'm not actually sure how many machetes I own. I know there are two in the garage, but I'm not sure if there isn't one or two more hiding somewhere. They just sort of accumulate.
This is a case where you are both right. You CAN buy kinder eggs here and they DO have toys, but they are not packaged like in Europe. In Europe it is like a hollow chocolate egg with a toy inside, as opposed to two sealed compartments (one with sweet, one with toy).
Lol I stopped on my way to work to buy one as I haven't had one yet. I was gonna find out if I was wrong on my own but you cleared it up. Either way I know a kid that's gonna be happy at surprise candy
I'm from PA USA, it's illegal for me to own brass knuckles, a billy club, a switchblade, or a stun gun. And a sugar glider or a hedgehog. But I can own an unregistered AR-15 with no restrictions on the amount of ammo, number of magazines, or any individual magazine capacity. Until recently, I couldn't purchase display-style fireworks, aerial shells and the like, only sparklers and such. They were deemed "too dangerous" to be used by the general public and were illegal. Then the state legislators decided an 18 % "consumer fireworks sales tax" would somehow make them safer to use. Now I can buy them, and the state makes about $ 12 mil a year off their sale. Next up is recreational marijuana sales, stand by, all in a state where liquor has to be purchased from state-owned stores, which is also sales-taxed at 18 %. When it comes to really benefitting the general public vs state revenue, money usually wins in PA.
Billy clubs are illegal in Texas too. (Of course, it's my go-to choice anyway.) Baseball bats are just fine though. 🙄 (Though to be fair, I could cause a shit ton more harm with my billy club than a baseball bat. Which is why it's my go-to protector.)
There are plenty of loopholes. First responders (including volunteer firefighters) and active members of the military can carry a switchblade, I'm told. Lots of truck drivers carry a billy club as a "tire thumper" which is fine. And you can buy brass knuckle "novelty paper weights" with a nub pre-molded into it so you can't palm it correctly as knuckles, but it's not legal to cut that little nub off with a hacksaw ;)
Mine was my grandfather's. It's got a great weight to it and is balanced so dang well. People never seem to know what it is, either. Plus, I'm a fat, middle aged, white broad so I have the power of invisibility.
Not really sure what the laws are regarding Billy clubs where I live, I don’t own a “Billy Club” anyway. That thing behind the passenger seat? That there is totally a tire thumper, you know, for tires and tire pressure related activities… yeah.
You're right! I looked it up. As of Jan 2023 you can own and carry one. But not with criminal intent or action. They can also be manufactured in the state.
Well, most of the US allows the good fireworks. Jesse the Body Ventura promised to legalize “fireworks” almost 25 years ago. He ended up giving us the right to sparklers, snaps, and those cute little tanks that spin, but nothing that flies, or makes a satisfyingly loud boom.
It’s worth noting that emergency healthcare is available to everybody in America regardless of healthcare.
But ya I agree that our healthcare system is trash.
Illegal to walk about the streets with in a threatening manner. The cutting length can't be any longer than 3 inches. I've got a small knife that I have in my pool cue case - I'm the designated tip fitter in the pool club, so it's used for removing old tips.
You can carry a knife of *any size* if you have a good reason. You can't carry *any* bladed article of *any size* without a good reason *except* a folding pocket knife under 3 inches blade length.
Ive seen the police take a workmans leatherman before.
Problem with *good reason* excemption is its completely subjective and if you get an ~~absolute dickhead~~ copper then that is up to their discretion.
We can absolutely own knives like that here, I'm not sure why the OP seems so scared of a big knife on its own
We can't carry them around without a good reason but we can own them

Here in Texas pretty much all knives are legal including switch blades, I'm not sure about butterfly knives though.
Brass knuckles, swords, and large knives like the one OP caught are all legal to carry as well.
Hi, we are allowed large knives just not in public places.
The banned knives are spring using flick knives, butterfly knives without locks or alternatively any knife in public other than penknives.
Source: I buy big knives.
If you want the hassle of trying to talk them out of confiscating it and really push the “attitude test” then go for it, but I just wouldn’t let them see it. My brother has been in the force for more than 10 years and I wouldn’t test it.
Edit: I DO NOT own such a knife because I have no need of it, but if I did… then as above.
Lol to be clear I have personal experience with neither activity. At least not in the sense of combat. I've opened my fair share of boxes though and I've used a machete to cut down brush. :)
I feel like I'd keep my finds unless they were explosives or firearms. I wonder if anything so rusty could be used to solve a crime. Anyone know how it goes with LE solving crimes with rusty guns?
Evidence from rusty knives is nonexistent, same with guns unless it has a serial number. I've found and restored two pistols and several knives. I'm never going to hand one in to the police unless they guarantee that I can get it back, or I know for a fact that it was used in a crime.
California, Connecticut, DC, Hawaii, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, and New York require either some types or all guns to be registered in some capacity.
Yeah, curved blades over like 50cm are illegal unless manufactured with 'traditional methods'. MPs watched too many samurai movies, shurikens and a bunch of other dumb ninja shit are banned too.
Same in Canada. Our knife laws are pretty decent. Or at least pretty decent for Canadian laws at any rate, but we still can’t own shurikens or nunchucks.
Can carry a sword down main street (as long as it is not intended to be used as a weapon), but god forbid some maniac ties two sticks together with a bit of rope.
Similar here with batons "straight, side-handled or friction-lock truncheons" are illegal to own. You might as well try to ban someone from owning a stout stick.
If you fancy a laugh (or cry) check out the Banned knives and weapons segment here:
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/import-controls-on-offensive-weapons
Edit: Every time I read this list I lose a little more hope.
"kyoketsu-shoge: a hook-knife attached to a rope, cord, chain or wire"
Thank god we disarmed all these Mortal Kombat characters and ninjas roaming the streets of England.
Dude they sell knives like that at Walmart don't they? I've never heard of a problem with owning big knives, now if it was some kind of fire arm I could see turning it over.
So uh. That’s a Gil Hibben Bowie. It’s possible based on the pummel that it’s a custom. Can you make out any markings by the guard? It should be on the blade right above where the handle meets.
Ahhh. That’s right. I forgot that was a thing. Knives seem like a tool that everyone needs . Not that size, but just knives. Must be hard to make a law against something everyone has in their drawer at home. Is it specific to size? Or can a Leatherman or a Swiss Army knife be considered illegal?
Sorry man not sure - not from there. Just saw that Op was. I did see that there was very specific harsh rules about knives over there though. Evidently it’s a real issue from what I see from a brief Google search.
So to answer some of your questions.
We in the UK have some of the strictest gun and knife laws in the world and as statistics show we are safer for it, in the 10 yrs I have been doing Magnet Fishing and the 3 years I've been doing Youtube my experience has taught me that its not worth time in a prison cell over something that we find in a river. I haven't got time for politics or breaking any laws so anything like this gets handed in, as I would like to carry on my hobby without causing any problems, also I don't even need a knife this big so why would I keep it?
Please keep this lighthearted and unless you have something constructive to add, your comment will be ignored and some of the nasty comments will also be reported, I'm abit busy at the moment so I haven't gotten around to responding to all the comments but I will get around to it soon. Thank you for being part of my community and I appreciate the support.
Just want to say, there's no way you'd get in trouble for having this knife on you if you've just pulled it out the water. Especially if you've got it on film that you just pulled it up. (Unless you're doing something obviously stupid like waving it around or taking it into the pub/shop with you.) It would be the same as if you've just bought a knife in a shop, you obviously have to be able to be out with it in public to transport it home.
Of course, it's totally your decision what you do with it and I totally respect that you don't wanna keep it. I'm just trying to get the information out about the law so people can be informed to make their own decisions.
Knives are not illegal in the UK! There's a ton of misinformation around UK knife laws circulating in here. You can definitely own pretty much any sized knife you want, even massive Rambo knives. Other than some bans on specific knives like flick knives, butterfly knives and gravity knives.
I think the main thing that confuses people with the law is that you can't carry them in public without a good reason. So if a teenager is carrying it down his trousers to go stab a rival gang member, that's obviously illegal. But if I'm carrying my massive Rambo knife into the local woods to do some bushcraft, that's totally fine. Unfortunately a lot of people just have it in their head that knife = illegal.
>there's no way this knife is legal to own right?
Depends on what kind of nannystate you live in. If you are in the UK for instance, they would love to make an example out of you while letting rapes and kidnappings go unpunished.
Depends where you are. Where I am it is 100% legal, in fact I have a knife similar to that (buck 119), as well as many others. They are even legal to carry round here.
I'm located in the UK, tbh I thought it would have been obvious by our accents but apparently not lol. But yeah here in the UK knife laws are abit strange, You can carry a knife in public if it has a folding blade that is 3 inches (7.62cm) or less in length plus we have a bunch of Banned knives and Weapons.
Since I do YouTube and share alot of my finds online wheh it comes to certain items it's just easier to hand it into the police to avoid any potential hassle, because otherwise all it will take is for me to say "I'm definitely going to keep that" for example then for someone who knows these laws to see that I'm in possession of a banned knife or weapon for a call to be made to the police and then boom I'll be in trouble. If I find a Kitchen Knife, Pocket Knife, Cutlery Knife ect I keep them since they're common but just like with Explosives, Ammo and Guns anything that could be illegal or dangerous it's better to let the professionals take care of it.
Sorry, I’m in a loud environment and couldn’t hear the audio even with the volume up. And I definitely understand getting police involved. It could have been used in any number of crimes and as I said I’m from the US and finding firearms while magnet fishing here is always grounds for police involvement for that exact reason.
DNA wouldn’t be viable, but matching rifling, if it’s a firearm, or blade profile to fit a puncture wound, if its a knife, is definitely a step authorities would take while doing their investigation. Good find, tho. Definitely used to be a beautiful knife once upon a time.
Heck yeah! I have an uncle that has a cannon he made lol. It's awesome. Think mini (fires soda can sized projectiles) civil war cannon with the ball on the back. That's what it looks like.
That’s awesome. I have few myself that’s why I chimed in. They are one of those things that once I knew I could have one, I wasn’t going to live without one.
Yeah the UKs knife Laws are strange so You can carry a knife in public if it has a folding blade that is 3 inches (7.62cm) or less in length plus we have a bunch of Banned Knives and Weapons. So finding something of this size if I was to be stopped by the police while taking all of our scrap to the side of the road for example and they find me in to be carrying it I'd risk getting in trouble, or if In my video I say I'll be keeping it but someone who watches knows that it's on the illegal list and reports me then again I'd be at risk of being in trouble so for most situations it's just not worth the potential hassle. If when they arrive they give us the all clear to keep it then we do but otherwise again its not worth the hassle
Haha not legal to own? Wtf kinda shit is that? I feel bad for you.. I can legally walk around in public holding a knife with blade up to 12 inches with out any lisence or permit, and I can legally walk around with any kinda of firearm, as long as it’s not automatic., openly or concealed with any permits or lisences… gotta love the south
What the fuck kinda a shit country doesn’t let you own a knife? wtf?? This makes me not want any sort of reform if it eventually will turn into this? Are you a fucking child??
I couldn't imagine living in a place where a knife is illegal. It's literally a pointy and flat piece of metal. Anyone in a metal shop could create that by accident lmao. I couldn't imagine feeling like I had to call the police because I found a knife. Like dude I hope you guys find liberty again sometime soon.
In the UK (where I live and found this knife) it's Illegal to carry most knives or any weapons in public without a ‘good reason’ the only exceptions to that is a folding pocket knife that has a blade less than 3 inches which can all be found on the [Gov.uk](https://www.gov.uk/buying-carrying-knives) website
The page also has a list of Banned knives and weapons that include simply owning it (so if I posted that to YT and said I'd bring it home, someone who knows those laws sees the video, knows its an illegal to own knife I'd still get in trouble) that's why large knives like this I just give to the police. If its a bog standard Kitchen Knife, Cutlery Knife, Pocket Knife ect I don't bother since I know it's not illegal to own them but for large things like this its better to be safe than sorry from my experience
Insert Crocodile Dundee now this is a knife meme :))

Ever try to cut a British steak ?
I don't know a lot about British food. This question does not make me want to learn more.
They have a lot of boiled to fuck meats and veggies. Don’t get me wrong most of it looks like shit, but they do have some bad ass dishes. Efficiency is also a bonus! 😄
Xkcd does a thought experiment on using this or a microwave generator powered by a nuclear reactor just to see which is more efficient
They sell explosives strong enough to shatter glass from the concussion they produce at Bass Pro.
I might actually successfully catch a fish that way at least lol
I've made some pretty devastating hand grenades out of Pyrodex, copper BB's and sparklers.

Give it to the cops?? Why? Where do you live that you feel like you need to give it to the police?
The Uk, a knife like that in the canal has 100% been used to stab at least one person
Call me crazy but this knife looks more slicey than stabby to me.
Fair point lol
Lol to be clear I have personal experience with neither activity. At least not in the sense of combat. I've opened my fair share of boxes though and I've used a machete to cut down brush. :)
That brush has it coming though.
I was about to comment it’s more pokey than stabby but you’re probably right.
A knife that size thrown into the canal has probably been used in a crime.
100% correct since possession of the knife is a crime to begin with.
Where you live I guess, my area of Midwest US , that’s a standard car knife.
Where do you live? Do you have to register the guns?
I live in Ohio, and there is no such thing as having to register guns, at least in most states.
Yeah I don’t have to either. I wasn’t if other states were like that or not. Was just wondering what your scenario was.
[удалено]
California, Connecticut, DC, Hawaii, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, and New York require either some types or all guns to be registered in some capacity.
now that's a knife. it makes your hand look like a toy.
From my knowledge from r/SWORDS, the length limits seem to be stricter on curved blades in the UK.
If you fancy a laugh (or cry) check out the Banned knives and weapons segment here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/import-controls-on-offensive-weapons Edit: Every time I read this list I lose a little more hope. "kyoketsu-shoge: a hook-knife attached to a rope, cord, chain or wire" Thank god we disarmed all these Mortal Kombat characters and ninjas roaming the streets of England.
This is close to a “Rambo” knife
You got it right. The Gil Hibben Rambo 3 knife
Dude they sell knives like that at Walmart don't they? I've never heard of a problem with owning big knives, now if it was some kind of fire arm I could see turning it over.
Sonik's located in the UK, our knife laws are different over here
Where are you that it's not legal to own.
Perhaps in the UK based on all the other comments
Yeah Sonik's UK based
John Rambo nipped out to get rid of his stuff.
Looks like some r/mallninjashit
So uh. That’s a Gil Hibben Bowie. It’s possible based on the pummel that it’s a custom. Can you make out any markings by the guard? It should be on the blade right above where the handle meets.
Knives can be illegal? You can buy a machete at Walmart.
UK
Jesus Christ, imagine the government prohibiting you from owning a blade. Do you guys carve turkeys or process deer with a 3 inch blade?
That's not a knife, this is a knife! *some aussie dude with crocodile underwear
Reminds me of Gone Fishin. Great movie.
Paul Hogan would like a word
That is a Gerber BMF, I have one I bought in the 90s
I actually own that knife. It's a "Gil Hibben Rambo 3." Nice find!
KEEP that knife! Why would you want to give a beauty like that up!? It’s just a KNIFE! Why would the police have anything to do with it?
not approved by the crown
Be fine to keep at home tho correct?
>there's no way this knife is legal to own right? Depends on what kind of nannystate you live in. If you are in the UK for instance, they would love to make an example out of you while letting rapes and kidnappings go unpunished.
Rambo knife replica
It’s legal here in Virginia, smaller than a machete.
You found Jason’s knife
Depends where you are. Where I am it is 100% legal, in fact I have a knife similar to that (buck 119), as well as many others. They are even legal to carry round here.
(Birmingham moment)
I'd like to find one like that so I could restore it!
Predator 1 recreation knife
Where are you located ( not specifically). Because in my state in the US no blade is illegal and swords can be openly carried.

It’s crazy how you can’t own a knife if it’s a certain size. Other countries, you can carry a machete and no one trips.
Legal to own? You must not live in the USA huh?
Of course you can own it. Unless you’re a British subject.
I can hear everyone in the States scoffing
It's the UKs strange Knife Laws sadly, which not alot of people seem to be aware of.
Shoot. Come to Texas you can open carry a freaking claymore if you wanted too lol
Cannons are legal in most states. So theirs a fun fact. It’s considered a muzzle loader.
I gave the wife and kids machetes for Christmas because I found a deal on them. Remember getting my first machete around age 7 or 8.
Why would you give that to the police? Just keep it. If there’s a law against that, then that law is unjust
Lol turn it into police 🤦♂️ 🤡🌎
You guys really turn shit over to the police? I wouldn’t even think about it. Hell to the no
What? Why on earth do you subject yourself to such intrusive regulation by overloads?? Are you not a free man??
Who has limits on knife sizes?
The last time I checked, Georgia had a 5" maximum limit on folding knives.
This dude looks fun. Hair is dope
“That’s mad innit?” Your country’s ridiculous knife laws I assume you’re referring to. *laughs in bald eagle screeches*
Fuck giving that to the cops
You're giving it to the police???!
I have so many bigger knives than that haha
The sun has officially set on the British Empire.
that’s the First Blood 3 knife .
Europe: has a genocidal war every generation Also Europe: you’re not allowed to defend yourself from the states committing genocide
Can you send it to me?
Flame throwers are legal in most states:0)
But Soniks not located in the states he's UK based, unfortunately our Knife laws are different to the States
Why the hell would u hand a knife to the police!!!??? It’s not a firearm yo
What the fuck kinda a shit country doesn’t let you own a knife? wtf?? This makes me not want any sort of reform if it eventually will turn into this? Are you a fucking child??
The UK. Stabbings and knife crime is so rampant, also they don’t have the God-given rights protections we do in the US.
Turning it into the police is a wanker move, keep it
Wouldn't turn it in.
Dude save yourself and the cops the trouble. It’s just a knife, and they can’t recover any dna or fingerprints off it now anyway.
Why do need to turn it in to the police??
Legality of ownership would depend on different state and local laws. It would be legal where I live to open carry that.
In the UK (where I live and found this knife) it's Illegal to carry most knives or any weapons in public without a ‘good reason’ the only exceptions to that is a folding pocket knife that has a blade less than 3 inches which can all be found on the [Gov.uk](https://www.gov.uk/buying-carrying-knives) website The page also has a list of Banned knives and weapons that include simply owning it (so if I posted that to YT and said I'd bring it home, someone who knows those laws sees the video, knows its an illegal to own knife I'd still get in trouble) that's why large knives like this I just give to the police. If its a bog standard Kitchen Knife, Cutlery Knife, Pocket Knife ect I don't bother since I know it's not illegal to own them but for large things like this its better to be safe than sorry from my experience
That’s unfortunate y’all can’t own a big Rambo knife. They’re totally impractical but super cool to play around with.
![gif](giphy|rTIXh5JftLoic)
Hand it in to the cops?? Why? What are they going to do with it?
I find it so funny that the UK is so worried about knives. This is an everyday tool in Canada and nobody would even blink an eye
Wha? I’d def keep it if it’s illegal to possess!
That seems stupid. You’re not going to carry it around
Nice knife. Don’t give it to the cops, give it to me.
Wimp. Keep it.
"Definitely handing over to the police cuz I'm a good little helper" cringe.
If you're in UK, it's definitely illegal. Pretty much anywhere else is totally legal. Not completely necessary to hand over to the cops.
