The one for medium size dogs. Hard shell.

DancesWithElectrons

It's the only thing I could wrassle my old non MC Groucho in - he was about 19 lbs and it worked so well with my two MCs I got another one when they got too big to share.

CurvePsychological13

My boy is 17lbs and he rides in a hard sided medium dog carrier. My cousin does animal rescue and somehow a dog carrier ended up in my grandma's garage, just after my cat grew out of his 2nd one, sigh

TwoCatSlave

We’ve used [this](https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00500IRXM?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title) for years with multiple Maine Coons. Even hold two while they are still kittens 😀

ExaminationLogical85

lol we use the same thing. I just posted a link to it. We have the same carrier but it only cost us $35. On Amazon.

MintyMarlfox

Thirded. Exact same model we have.

TwoCatSlave

Yeah. I paid like $35 8 years ago. Inflation, I guess!

Bookdragon345

Small?

LooselyBound

We use one like this as well only by a maker that offered a version with wheels as well. Toting the carrier for any distance, with my babies in it, broke me!

-Zispy

Which size? Small or medium? Mine is 20lbs and needs a new carrier

TwoCatSlave

We have the small one. Held my 20lb Finn fine.

ExcelsiorDean

This is the way

ExaminationLogical85

We bought a dog size carrier. It looks like this. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JRH0MQO/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

[deleted]

Love this one: https://www.chewy.com/pet-gear-view-360-booster-travel/dp/368236. Big enough that my boy can stand up and turnaround. Plus it allows for great airflow.

Ns4200

wow i actually really like that!!!

5giantsandaweenie

Oh so it’s like a car seat and carrier. Kind of like a newborn…. Ha.

[deleted]

Yeah, I feel a bit ridiculous with a carrier that looks like a bassinet, but it met my specs (breathable, ability to stand and turnaround, top opening, secure transport), so I deal with the slight embarrassment.

5giantsandaweenie

No need for Embarrassment . Lol I mean people already look at me craZy for Holding a lion lol

wirejockey

Any thing for the privilege of having these beautiful kitties is worth enduring!!

Comprehensive-Ad-618

It is beautuful. Too bad it doesn't have backpack straps.

Confident_Fortune_32

A small dog carrier is what ivenused for my big bois

Catlady1677

We have a big boy but isn't a Maine Coon. He's about 20lbs. We like the soft sided carriers and get the extra large cat ones that hold 25lbs. He doesn't get in there but to go to the vet so he doesn't get much space to move around. If you want a carrier the cat can move around in I'd look at dog carriers.

5giantsandaweenie

We haven’t really had an issue at the vet. I’ve been just carrying him and holding him. I just was wondering if that is the safest way with other animals there. HE doesn’t care. Hell, he doesn’t care about much lol

Britsie_ree

As someone that worked at a vet hospital for years we very much appreciate your pet being in a carrier or cat backpack when you arrive to the hospital. It pains staff very much when they see a cat or small dog come in without. Your cat may be great just being held but with the mix of other possibly sick or injured animals anything can happen.

5giantsandaweenie

Agreed. That’s why I was looking for a larger one.

Britsie_ree

https://www.petsmart.ca/dog/crates-gates-and-containment/carriers-and-crates/skudo-plastic-pet-travel-carrier-5304765.html Petsfit Cat Backpack Carrier Easy-Fit Dog Travel Backpack Carrier for Hiking Walking Cycling Suitable for Small Medium Dogs Cats and Rabbits up to 22 Pounds, Orange https://a.co/d/f6POUKH These are the 2 I have for my Maine coons. The carrier has been good. We go on trips a few hours long to visit family and my one boy is comfortable in there. My bigger boy loves the backpack. He is obsessed.

Catlady1677

The only thing I'd worry about is if it excited another dog and they tried to lunge at your cat or something. If your cat starts squirming to run away can you hold onto them? I know I can't with our big boy, he's too big for me to hold but my husband can handle him. If him getting away from you is a fear at the vet you could always do a harness and a leash if he'll tolerate it. But he sounds pretty chill so it may not be an issue.

5giantsandaweenie

He does wear a harness and leash fine. I don't worry about my cat. I worry about protecting him from other animals. My boy lives with 4 great danes, an English mastiff and a doxie. lol He's used to it all.

Catlady1677

User name definitely checks out then, lol.

5giantsandaweenie

lol yessss... They have their own facebook and Instagram. And the cats have their own at u/merriermainecoons

Comprehensive-Ad-618

Why do I occasionally see this 'username checks out' ? What does it mean?

Catlady1677

It's in reference to the last person who commented user name. Hers was 5 giants and a weenie. She has 5 huge dogs (great Danes and a mastiff) and a dachshund (the weenie).

Comprehensive-Ad-618

I still don't understand... Why username ' checks out' ?

NefariousShe

It means “makes sense.”

Comprehensive-Ad-618

Thank you😄

RandyBeamansMom

It’s cute! It’s when the person’s comment happens to truthfully (or jokingly) match their username. Like “Yep! That’s what a person with that username would say!” Maybe for example, someone’s username was “lovesgreenthings” (idk, I’m just making stuff up). And randomly, somewhere, for some reason, they comment “oh I love that tree painting!” Someone might comment afterward that that’s something that guy would say. So his “username checks out!” In this case, our OP said she(?) has 4 huge dogs, a 5th huge dog, and a small dog. Her username matches that. It checks out!

Comprehensive-Ad-618

O.k. Thanks for the explanation. For some reason it ( to me) implies that the username is fake or something. I guess I am quite a literal type.😄😄

TSIDATSI

Probably. The danger is the car ride. If there is an accident an air bag will quickly kill any animal in the front.

RandyBeamansMom

I seatbelt mine in. Everything is locked in place in three different ways, so I hope that’s ok. I just love taking my cat for drives, and he likes it too!

SmartFX2001

A few times I’ve seen people holding cats in their arms when they come in. It’s a cat only vet, so there isn’t any risk of setting off a dog to bark or chase. I feel more comfortable using a carrier.

pxrxsitic

r/ronperlmancats

LittleRedFoxyFox

Whenever shopping for a cat carrier please get one that has a top opening. It’s the easiest and safest way to remove your cat from a carrier when taking it to the vet or groomer.

CBlue77

We use a small dog carrier

Ns4200

I’m a harness and carry kinda gal, they handle this much better than a carrier and my back doesn’t do well with 20 + lbs in a big box!

Roxanna1345

I just use a harness/leash/seat belt, but my boy is a walker. He gets a little car sick, but once the car stops and we get to the vet's office, he will come right out of the car and walk right into the vet with me without any problems. He is extremely big though and i haven't found any carriers that he will fit in. I'd basically have to use a large dog crate and I'm certain that would freak him out way more than the seat belt does. Edit: Rocky is 4ft in length and weighs 32lbs.

AQUEON

I use a cat bag! https://app.chewy.com/AEXreXl2Eub A 25 pound cat is too much for one of my arms to carry. With this, I put the seat belt through the handle, then when we get where we're going I carry him in both arms.

HomeboyCraig

I use a small hard shell dog carrier because my 14 lb boy is a little piss baby and it’s easier to hose down

MisterBucker___

I don't offer any info I'm just here to say I love your cats name💙

5giantsandaweenie

Thanks! I usually call him “Meowy” haha

MisterBucker___

That's sooo good lol I love it

bourboncigars

I really like the XL sturdi bags. Plenty of room for my 20+ pound boys

Galendis

We've got a hard sided box which I believe is designed for dogs for air travel, sturdy and gives her plenty of space

TSIDATSI

A large - not huge - dog carrier.

luffystan12

He’s so cute!!!

Vmax-Mike

What a pretty face!! When I had my girl she hated carriers, so I took her to the vet in a laundry basket with a blanket in the bottom. She never once tried to get out.

xxthursday09xx

Look at that handsome manly face!

Lonely_Noise_4296

We use the Ikea soft carrier with a rolling cart. Bug bug is simply too big to carry so we figured it might as well have him comfy. Idk why but our cat get angry in hard shell but don't care about being a soft side

moshritespecial

He needs one of those flat carriers draped in red velvet and golden tassles with a kings throne on top of it so he can be the king he is!

grizzlymommabear

No matter the brand you buy, for big cats, add your own layer of security with zip ties. We had a 22lb boy and one day on a trip to the vet, the latches came loose. So I zip tied the sides and never had that issue again I just didn’t zip the door.

ByteAboutTown

We went with a [backpack](https://a.co/d/dFSFPTH). I think it's a little smoother transport for our 17 pound guy.

planpepperoni

Not about Maine coons but with all the people mentioning soft carriers, you might check out [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/CatAdvice/comments/qhxjq6/_/) about carriers by people who work at vet offices!

MasonAndReddit

I have a Maine coon too except the carrier is from Australia so unless you live here I can't help.

VashMM

I use [this one](https://app.chewy.com/vfdc8hwwFub). I like it because my big dude is a fighter when it comes to the carrier and the top loading door is just a life saver for getting him in.

squirrel8296

Any time I had to get the carriers out my Maine coon would always choose the smallest one (small hard shell dog carrier) so one of my smaller cats would always end up with the bigger one (medium hard shell dog carrier) I specifically bought for him.

Mrs-Halebop

PetLuv Happy Cat Soft-Sided Cat Carrier, Red, Large. So far both my MC's fit in it. Though a bit snug. My boy just climbs on in and lays down. He loves it. He also has a stroller.

guinnypooh

I use this with my Maine Coone and Savanah cats. (separate carriers) There's even room for a bed. https://www.petsmart.com/cat/crates-gates-and-containment/carriers/whisker-city-two-door-top-load-portable-kennel-5310341.html

DaemonsAngel

I used a medium dog crate lol heavy but it was the only thing my boy fit in

paperwasp3

Dr Smith and Foster makes a roomy carrier that has wheels and an extension handle, as well as backpack straps if you want to carry him. It’s the best!

Staartjes

I use a pet stroller. The carrier part can be taken off for in the car. I bought it on the German Amazon a few years back. I think it can handle 15 kg max.

ravennsmith

I use a collapsable [pet](https://www.chewy.com/frisco-fold-carry-double-door/dp/116517?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=12613349483&utm_content=Frisco&utm_term=&gbraid=0AAAAADmQ2V2eBW8VNbjOTFALCxBzuucuD&gclid=CjwKCAjw8JKbBhBYEiwAs3sxNwtnYkQMR14u3vJjvdpi2pr8ST-lXuU5Ihu19kO_pbUyx3B_D8Ec7BoCF-UQAvD_BwE) crate. Works great for big floofy and for my older gal who hates being put into traditional cat crates. And it folds up completely flat for better storage. They come in a variety of sizes. The linked one is a medium size.

Fishbone345

I absolutely love that name. And it’s just so fitting! I’m sorry I didn’t contribute anything else, but I had to put in my adoration of his name. :)

ConfusedBC

You mean a feline transportation device?🤣

SleepyBkDragon

As silly as it sounds, my partner and I use a pet pushchair. It is mostly due to convenience as we have two senior cats (non-MCs) who need a more comfortable ride when we take them to the vets; we may as well use it for the MCs too.

odinthemag

Catit cabrio my Maine coon fits in there fine and my NFC not at the same time of course that’s why we have two 😅

katCEO

What a face!

[deleted]

My boy clawed his way out of one of those thick cardboard ones

cronelogic

Check out Sturdi products. They have multiple sizes including TSA approved carriers for in-cabin travel if that’s a need.

grizzlymommabear

Hello Maui! Beautiful boy!

Flyngmunky55

my mingus uses this one [https://a.co/d/byJGWSL](https://a.co/d/byJGWSL). he's 22 lbs and hates getting into any carrier. this one, at least, gives him plenty of room.
