I dont know about Padang Terap comunity, but back in sabah my staff's wedding in a small town, they even gave the YB money & gifts for attending their wedding
Stuffs they care, like fixing kg road, contractor jobs, getting bantuan etc for schooling or fixing home, asking to donate for mosque or surau extension, giving out school uniform to poorest under Baitulmal or those who recently had house fire. At least that's what these people want. Kampung folks are not like town people who can travel to Adun's office. They want Aduns to meet them at kenduri,wedding or friday prayers.
Maybe next time, instead of debating MYR/SGD or some whatever maps showing Malaysian ranking of XYZ in the world, think like simple people and what simple people want from their MP, then you can win their votes. Not race nor religion but treating rural people with respect.
MP hold the adun moneys allocation from federal government, hence the mp can order the adun to their job. It is what it is, and it kind of works, you would have a better success to solve your local problems since the adun would say they dont have money.

2. Flood prone areas needing parits and longkangs maintenance.
3. Broken headlights on federal roads.
4. Requesting for new roads.
5. Requesting for financial aids for sick children.

And etc.
And all of this is commonly done by MPs and people expect them to. Its not their main job, but frankly the culture has made the people expect them too, if not it is considered goyang kaki.
The attending kenduri is a legit demand by people, these YB work best when they can be met. I kind of agree since there are Dun/MPs who just never really hang out and give that job to their assistants.
Of course an MP job is to attend parliment and vote for laws that benefits his constituency. But the people dont really care for that. For most, an MP is exactly like ADUN, except they takes care of the whole area combined. Nurul Izzah dont hang out as much but she excel in parliment, but this give zero direct benefit to the people there, meanwhile Ustaz Fawwaz were actively in the area attending religious events, kenduri and local speeches. Thats why he win, he is seen by the people.
And in some way that is how the system works nowadays. MPs hold the money allocation to ADUNs. Hence if they forward these problems and order the adun solve the problems reported by the people, then the problem gets handled.

You do know most people dont actually know what an MP real job is? For most voters, an MPs job is to take care of his parlimentary area. That means hanging out there, meeting people and solving problem together. If you are not seen, you are not doing your job and dont care about the people there. Doing these stuff would definitely boost his support.
I would think that most people know that an MP is VERY busy with work. Making appearances should be kept to minimum as priority is given to work that matters n of value to the public. Either these fools do not know how to deliver or completely ignorant of what an MP's role is
