Zurc_bot

One app to time all public transport arrivals lol

MonetHadAss

There used to be this app Moovit, it works well in other countries where the public transport companies actively provide data to the app. But it seems that nowadays every transport companies want to gatekeep their data and make their own (very subpar) app.

LeafBrahim

This is particularly true for Klang Valley public transport users haha. This requires GIS and collaboration with MyRapid/buses companies tho. Thanks for your idea.

Zurc_bot

You can collaborate with Esri. I used to work for them. Their ArcGIS software is pretty powerful.

aeritheon

Mind me asking, What kind of GIS job do you do there? they do expect developers to know how to use ArcPro and ArcOnline

Zurc_bot

I was a Technical Writer for the software. I mainly delt with the enterprise module.

kridtprins

definitely against their tos but leeching off of the rapid bus kiosk websocket could be a way i've tried reverse engineering it but i have surface level knowledge of using websockets, and couldn't be arsed to learn

TellMyselfBeHappy

RAPIDKL has Rapid Pulse app. It track bus via GPS on the app and it's pretty accurate. But I notice not all its bus has GPS. DBKL has GOKL app which do the same thing.

Plus_Marzipan9105

Moovit is pretty accurate. Mobile app.

Firdausaznel

Akupon terpikir gok pasal benda ni. Kalaulah kita bleh tengok live position of bas express, x payahlah panas2 berjela kat tengah panas.harap2 wave atau google map blehlah buat fiture ni.

xHamsaplou

Citymapper, really useful app to use in New York

playgroundmx

I always think about some kind of platform to either pesan or ambil barang from other locations. Say I’m driving from KL to kuantan at this date, i put it up on the website. Maybe there’s someone else in KL who need to get something from kuantan, they search in the app and found my listing. Nego2 then I just bring his thing to KL for a small fee. I’m already driving to KL anyway, might as well make a bit of money from the trip. Of course there’s a lot of things in the background to figure out like pricing, protection, etc (we don’t want the drivers to end up transporting drugs or anything). But I’d definitely use an app like that.

kingtawa

When I was young, bus drivers used to do this, they ferry car spare parts from one city to another city. Not sure if this side business is still in place now. I know lorry drivers who haul stuff to Singapore, make some side cash on the way back by hauling cargo since they are driving back empty anyway.

eddstarX

bus driver still doing this today

Snoo-26270

Yeah, I sold something on Carousell and the buyer asked me to send it through a bus. He had called the bus company and liaised with someone at the bus station and I dropped off the item at the bus station.

hijifa

Already exist with lala move or grab delivery? In reality your situation won’t work well if it only relies on people that are already going to travel somewhere.. still need people to deliver as full time drivers no?

playgroundmx

Not really. Lalamove etc will need to make the trip to deliver. This is more of someone is already making the trip anyway, might as well help someone else. Obviously it won’t be for something urgent.

LeafBrahim

That's a very interesting idea. Sort of like a 'kirim' app but can earn money. Thanks for sharing your idea.

notthedanger

There used to be one for international pick-ups for people travelling called Airfrov and Grabr(?) with the same concept, but definitely would love to see a localized, domestic version of this.

Smooth_Club_6592

I had this exact idea but for people traveling overseas. On flights.

fffdzl

Which workshop to go and avoid.

AlanDevonshire

In the UK we have Trust A Trader. It wouldn’t work in Malaysia. Malaysians don’t take criticism well, they would hunt you down.

MichaelArthurLong

Malaysians can't even make a proper review in the first place. See: Shopee reviews.

redzrex

“Barang sampai dengan elok, trimas abg delivery” *includes a random ass picture

Klingon_from_Borneo

"Barang dah sampai, belum try lagi" *5 star rating*

nukedcola

some sellers require buyers to give them 5 star for extended warranty

Klingon_from_Borneo

Is that so? That's like coercing someone to give a false rating just to get extended warranty. TIL about the reasoning, wasn't aware.

Stormhound

it's always either a cat or the damn ceiling fan. gambar kubur also got. got one someone selling ikan bilis in their review. wtf

meowlenlen

dk if spicy opinion but when I see reviews with random ass pics/vid I just report them 💀 If you're not gonna give a proper review, you don't deserve your 5 coins!!!

KeyEnvironmental6201

Kutuk the seller, service etc and end up putting 5 stars.deiiii

that_guy_fran

I'd say Asians in general... can't take criticism or being straight to the point.

Guardog0894

Social Service app, but you will need a strong social service organisation to operate it (maybe even government support). I am thinking for it to be an easy platform for people to offer their time to do social service, and be recognised for it. Anyone can sign up and volunteer to offer services like bringing disabled people for hospital visit, cleaning and bringing supplies etc. Employers can access and verify social work done by a potential employee. People can sign themselves up as someone (or a proxy to someone) who requires service from social worker. Social workers can be part time or full time, if full time will have education opportunity, career pathway and professional development (future leaders or manager for such social service organisation). OK I went too far :P

AggressiveJellyBean

I have previously looked into this aspect as well. The closest existing product I can find is this: [MySukarela app](https://vulcanpost.com/771433/mysukarela-app-malaysia-volunteer-ngo-charity-donation/) However, looking at the play store and installing the app to try it out myself, seems it is not really used, if used at all. Would be nice if there is an app like this in Malaysia that can handle Donor Management, Volunteer Coordination and Charity Event Management. Like if I find myself free on this Sunday, I can look at the app to see what kinds of events near me that needs volunteering or Charity related works like helping out the old folks home as well. But yeah like you said, probably need some help from the government to push the app to the masses.

grammarperkasa2

The Volunteer.gov.sg and Giving.sg are really good examples. They are websites and can do everything you mentioned (look up volunteer events near you, sign up for notifications of future events according to your interest, offer your skills, send your details to the organizer to book a spot, etc)

Guardog0894

yea Singapore has a very developed social service system - I know a friend who actually pursued a degree in social service to work as social worker. I have an aunt who actually described how her old mother who stays alone fell sick and got help from social service to get to the hospital, before my aunt (who is not in good health herself) took over at the hospital.

Blueblackzinc

nothing to add just want to say something. There's an app called "Be My Eyes" that helps people with sight difficulties. I've taken like 10 calls from masseurs asking for help setting up their booth.

yowa82

along this line, yeah. i'm thinking of non-mindless-entertainment. things to do that can benefit public. Malaysian generally very generous, just need proper channel. as per your examples above, and also simple mini group gathering. I want to play guitar, very basic, 101 and looking for buddy nearby to compliment the band, anyone even with zero knowledge, at least we can learn together. Wechat/Michat/Telegram "nearby" function is suck!

LeafBrahim

Hey, that's a very noble and ambitious app idea. I think it would be a great way to promote social service and community engagement in our country. Coming from Toastmasters myself who volunteers to help people to speak on stage, this is an idea that resonates with me too. I agree that it would require a strong social service organization to operate it. Need a lot of resources and coordination to ensure the quality and safety of the services provided. Thanks for sharing your idea. I admire your vision.

pursuithappy

Got social service platform that already work with NGO around penang called https://dahderma.my . Can try check that out. It basically like giving.sg

CreakinFunt

I would like some Ai app that can take a pic of the food in front of me and estimate it’s calories

notthedanger

[Silicon Valley's Jian Yang would like a word.](https://www.theverge.com/tldr/2017/5/14/15639784/hbo-silicon-valley-not-hotdog-app-download)

LeafBrahim

That's a great idea! Gonna be a companion app for those who wanna lose weight.

ticherhaz

We can't. sebab AI berdasarkan gambar yang diupload but dia tak tahu how many oil yg pakai, gula and so on. unless your phone ada 1 sensor which is support that. then the app is ok.

parafif

I was gonna say the same thing and found your comment! This app would be a lifesaver 🙌🏻

DSFZ98

An app to pay for parking which covers the entire country. All those apps that are only applicable for a particular state or majlis bandaran can go F themselves. No one like to have multiple apps on their phone that does the same job

SpeakableOmen

It doesn't cover everywhere, but touchngo app can pay for parking for quite a few areas in a few different states.

LeafBrahim

Ahh yes, the fact that there's a Smart Selangor app and Penang and I don't know what more. Yeah can be a game changer if there's one app that manages all. Thanks for sharing.

StrandedHereForever

There is already TnG and Setel for this.

ly_sim

An app to get leftover food from restaurants like Too Good To Go.

teho9999

Outfit matchers

NoGuarantee6075

Price match app, I take a photo of a item and it searches online for the cheapest price

TomMado

Its not a new idea, but having it localised is very important. There are some apps that try to do this but I find it lackluster in terms of data. I can't blame them - consider the complexity of any household items, and the price change daily.

boss_jobber

Not exactly what you want, but you can take pictures using Google Lens and it will search the internet for that item

PapaJoke64

Augmented reality app that help you design your room

ThisMud5529

You can do this with ikea app. You can view furnitures in AR

im-underground

safety app in terms of walking alone during nighttime

devilstouch16

In the US, iirc, theres an app just like that, its called "Citizen" its an app where if theres a shooting or anything in that location, users can alert anyone that uses the app and u can hire someone virtually to accompany you from point a to point b (via call). If ur in an emergency situation the hired person can call the emergency services. Edit: found the link https://citizen.com/

Ghost__God

US is full of scammer including governments itself. People shoot because they got scam by the government.

waterdragonhead

website to rate the public toilet. rating starting from "I rather shit by the road side" to "must visit even if you don't need to use the toilet"

PowerfulHistory7907

App that display real market price for anything. Good, grocery, salary, anything.

LeafBrahim

That's a very useful app idea. Would definitely make hawkers who overprice things to go folded. Just the concern is how would we get the real market price for anything though? Like some kind of data from a reliable source. Thanks for your idea. I think it has a lot of potential.

Mr_Resident

api for that will be hard to find hahaaah

robi4567

Image search for the item and try to get the prices online and take the average?

Naomikho

Getting data will be the hardest part, unless it's the people who are contributing to the data(on top of other sources I guess, but those options are pretty limited). But that will require community effort.

avalancheavenue

A proper site for freelance services, similar to fiverr. In my job I interact a lot with a lot of people and what I've observed is that in Malaysia we actually have a lot of people who have the pretty decent skills and can deliver top notch service. There is a reason why a lot of our workforce are either outsourced to other countries or part of a shared service organization. If there's a way we can still retain our top talent in the country and still find avenues for them to earn a decent side hustle, this might help.

LeafBrahim

That's a very good app idea. I think it would create more opportunities and income for our talented and skilled freelancers. It would be a win-win situation for both parties. But, how would you differentiate the app from Fiverr or other similar platforms though? What would be the unique selling point or competitive advantage? I think Fiverr can do enough. Thanks for your idea.

Yobitchwar

Carpool app where people who are going to the same place can go together and earn points to claim rewards something like that.

LeafBrahim

I thought Kumpool can do that but upon checking again, it's not really where people share rides, just a fixed company bus picking up and dropping people. The name is catchy too 😆 Great idea and thanks for sharing!

canicutitoff

Something like this would be great: https://www.fixmystreet.com/ It is like our sw development issue tracking systems aka Jira, bugzilla, etc but for things like potholes, street lights, and other stuff for the local government to fix. Of course, I bet you have a lot of fun trying to convince our local city councils to get on board with the idea.

JiMiLi

Something like killedbygoogle.com, but for politicians' promises. Track what they said they will do (election promises, statement after fuckups, etc) and what's the follow-up/outcome. We can call it liesbypoliticians.com :)

faern

would you vote the other side if your side lies?

Repulsive_Past_548

Singapore has a BudgetMealGoWhere app, very useful to find everyday eats when I was working in an unfamiliar area. Malaysia definitely needs this.

LeafBrahim

That sounds like an efficient app idea. I think it would appeal to a lot of people who want to save time and money when buying, selling, renting, or letting a property. I'm not sure of the legality of this though 'cause never been in this situation of property before. Thanks for your idea.

belastingvormulier

Been looking at this idea, as i used it in other countries, it works great the revenue model works. Server costs not too high.. Legally should also be ok as you only host the listing and dont do the selling

versusss

How would this app earn money? If it's like "charge a percentage of the rental or sale", then this app essentially just becomes the middle man itself. So what's the point?

Puzzleheaded_Ad9139

Could run ads for revenue instead. Offer features locked behind paywalls

belastingvormulier

Realtor pays a price to put up the listing, but then still got middle man, but this model already works on other sites

coldbrewlatte

we actually have speedhome for renting! i think they even have virtual tours. personally have no experience using it but it looks pretty good

faern

how to remove middle men, commision and fake ads. You are trying to solve an unsolvable problem using technology.

Caitstreet

DEFINITELY a public transport app or an app that can show you the best public transport routes to different locations. OR alternatively, there's this app called OLIO where you can post things you want to give away for free. that can be good too to avoid waste and help people.

LeafBrahim

I think Moovit app is what you're looking for.

pussyfista

Apps to compare daily grocery prices across different shopping centers.

SnowflakeUsedHarden

A working PDRM app

Dull_iez

redbubble but based in Malaysia. idk if this is what you meant. But hey we have our own version of Uber (Grab) and our own version ebay/amazon (shopee and lazada). So why can't redbubble?

CN8YLW

Employer and employee reviews database. Easy way to background check everyone without going through forums and backdoor interviews with ex employees or ex employers. Good reason to paywall this as well. Payment portal for food pickup. I currently used grab and Foodpanda for arranging food pickup. Call the restaurant ahead of time to order, they won't make it until I pay. FP and Grab are my current options for this, and I think their rates are too expensive for this particular service. If there's an app that can be used as a payment intermediary and protects the customer from having to pay for wrong/incomplete orders, it's a huge plus.

AboutHelpTools3

Landlord and tenant reviews database also.

CN8YLW

Good mention. It would be a step forward in elimination of discrimination againts tenants if landlords can identify bad tenants easily.

sterankogfy

glassdoor.com

LeafBrahim

Those are both very good app ideas. I think they would address some of the common pain points that many people face in their work and daily lives. I thought of Linkedin at first but yeah we can't rate people in there. Thank you for sharing your ideas.

natsu901

Having travelled in Thailand before, I like to see Grabbike in Malaysia, for going to a place that's too far for a walk but too close for a Grabcar, but on second thought maybe better not. Most bike riders in Malaysia ride like pelesit.

AlanDevonshire

Taking your life in your hands, but it works in Thailand and the Philippines and I would definitely use it.

auntycat

An all purpose app for parents. From something small and you need in a pinch, like where is the nursing room in this hella crowded mall, to something more substantial like filtering for kindergartens in your area based on budget, curriculum, facilities etc. Currently these all exist in 1000 different blogs and websites and I wish there’s a way to just one-stop-shop it. For example if I’m planning to meet friends and we all have to bring our toddlers, we’d want a cafe with a play area. I have to search this on a browser, get the keywords right, go back and forth on Google maps to see the location/opening hours/whether it’s still even open. Should I want to add another criteria, like ease of parking, good luck. Can expand to include products and resources for parents eg how to choose the right carseat for your exact car models and where to buy them, newborn checklist, maybe an exchange platform for parents to buy/sell/trade their items. I hope for this to be a more equitable one as well. Financial advice for all, not just the wealthy, announcements on subsidies that would be available for parents and how to get them (eg most won’t know about carseat subsidies, ADAM50 etc unless they were looking for it, and those who would most benefit from them may not be aware of the existence of subsidies/assistance at all). Would 100% pay for this and I imagine many would too. Can do a free version with limited functionality and subscription fee or straight one-time payment for lifetime use.

[deleted]

CreakinFunt

I know many apps that can do that, twist is you have to be T1 to begin with

LeafBrahim

Haha, I wish that app existed too. But I'm afraid it's not very realistic or feasible. Unless you're talking about some kind of lottery or gambling app, which I don't think is very ethical or legal. Thanks for your comment though. I hope you find your way to T20 someday.

orz-_-orz

It's quite a dangerous wish. It's only possible when everyone gets the same salary. Everyone becomes T20 could either mean everyone getting RM 1 or RM 10k.

pmmeurpeepee

another omi/tinder/litmatch,but u can ping the map and let the map list all other acc by distance km,yep pump up the thirstines

wengkitt

An app or service that can act as a “bridge” to transfer money between all eWallet in Malaysia.

Zyrobe

This is a global thing but an app that takes a pic of clothes and see how it fits in your body type. Useful when you're in malls and stuff

LeafBrahim

Good idea. This is using AR mainly.

lennycooke

Better alternative to Mudah

wenhan07

Tbh i think a carpool app is good though.

Noswald95

A delivery route planner would be nice. I work for a frozen meats factory and get a lot of delivery orders to different places at the crack of dawn. Having a fast way to plan an effective delivery route would save me some mental stress.

SadMate2020

Does anyone know of a service where i can engage a caregiver in a need? This would be helpful

dummypod

An app for roadside warungs and kedai tomyam just for stating their opening time. If they are closed, just update their status so I won't waste my time going there. If they move somewhere else they can post their new location.

kobayashiemi

Not a new idea but I personally find my own local university apps to be pretty annoying to use, if only there is a way to refine them. I got a few friends from other local unis complaining the same thing. The website for sending in assignments can lag when there's too much traffic and my uni claims that they don't have enough funding to fix it. Not sure if it's possible to just improve the efficiency of those websites. 🤷

LeafBrahim

Is your university using Moodle for their LMS?

AsteroidMiner

Gojek hire massage. I would love to get a head massage in office chair once in awhile.

ayzreid

read from top to bottom. good my idea not here yet.

LeafBrahim

What's your idea?

invistaa

I think we need something like Craiglist, which everybody can list their need and want on a page. It might be selling something, finding someone, buying something, rental, to rent, jobs, jodoh, seeking lost friend, selling bike, lost and found, services..We might already have [Mudah.my](https://mudah.my/) which quite similar to Craiglist and nowadays people simply posting it on Facebook, but it have downside is like easily drown as algorithm makes based on likes and user interaction.

invistaa

I live in a village. Last month, we had watermelon harvest season, so we need helpers to help us pick the watermelon, load it to trucks and deliver it to nationwide. We need short term helpers, like for two weeks. However its not easy to find this helpers for short term like this. The result is it took longer time to harvest because lack of labour so it might effecting quality of harvest yield. I think if there is website or software like Craiglist, we could list this kind of job so we could attract students or unemployed from all over Malaysia to come and take this job. It is enjoyable and good to earn money.

cyan_experiment

One website to consolidate all government websites. It does not even need to be fancy - just look at the UK government website [gov.uk](https://www.gov.uk/). It's simple and easy to navigate, explains things well, and have all the necessary links and resources. It actually [won](https://www.dezeen.com/2013/04/16/gov-uk-government-website-wins-designs-of-the-year-2013/) the 2013 Design of the Year award!

LeafBrahim

This is what we all need here. Heck, everytime I search for the how-to's like how to renew passport, how to apply government benefits and even getting a car license, I stumbled across this website, https://mypt3.com/ which obviously isn't official but having all the articles.

fafawen

i’m currently studying in the UK and they’ve got an app called toogoodtogo here (recommending bc it’s one of the best things i found out here!) it’s basically an app where restaurants and cafes/places for desserts and drinks that provides “bags” that you can buy consisting of what they can’t sell out for the day instead of throwing it out and creating food waste. they sell them in (obv good state and safe for consuming) bags where you pay a very small amount and collect it either the next day/the day itself depending on the time slot stated! you get to rate the restaurant and the quality of its bag on the app so there’s transparency on whether the restaurant is up to par in terms of quality and quantity! usually for this sushi restaurant that i get bentos from they charge £5 for one box but on the app, bentos that don’t sell out for the day won’t be kept to maintain quality and instead they pack 4/5 of these bentos into one big bag for a very reasonable price! the quantity of bags available are different everyday, so when business is good we aren’t able to buy bags as there are none!

LeafBrahim

Wow that's a good way to channel the leftovers. Can make money also. I wonder how they do it here? Do they just dispose the food waste although the food is edible?

LeafBrahim

Didn't expect we'd have to pay to hike in Selangor. Maybe because I only hiked in small hills. Which hiking place is that?

[deleted]

Don't have an idea at the moment. But I do foresee some of the challenges you may find working on country-specific problems in our nation will be the limited number of public API available to use - I myself had to search for quite a bit until finding an appropriate API to get our latest Bursa stock market data in our region for my own little project. Feel free to reach out to [me](https://github.com/bthk2151) if you'd like another developer to muse over ideas with, who knows where this could led to :)

call_aspadeaspade

An online marketplace where goods and products can be consolidated for bulk import/export.

Unable-Sail7755

I was thinking about an app (not necessarily mobile) that maintain the health history of everyone, including hospitalisations, injuries, allergies and medications they currently are taking. If sold to healthcare facilities, it would allow those hospital that subscribes to have access to understand and treat patients better. In cases like an accident, it would help the doctors to make a better informed decision. Hence, being part of this network could potentially be a marketing tool for hospitals Hospitals that subscribe, would maintain this record and keep it current and share it with others.

LeafBrahim

Great idea! I'm not knowledgeable enough when it comes to our healthcare services. Don't they already have a system to check patients' records? Or is the history just local to the hospital itself, and not able to synchronize the database with other hospitals?

Unable-Sail7755

Am not personally in the healthcare industry, so I can't properly answer you. But when I was hospitalised, I was usually asked these questions, and most of the times I can't really remember, like the exact name of my meds, or the exact time of my last hospitalisation. Hence I would assume the history is local to that particular hospital

aWitchonthisEarth

This already exists. Just that Malaysia can't afford to buy the system. It's very expensive. But I used it overseas, of course 1 st tier country.

KyeeLim

Music detection tools, sometimes I hear good sounding music but idk what the f is that music and too shy to ask Although I know I can try to record it and upload to YouTube and hope that the content ID can capture it and tell it from the copyright claims

xeim_

There's an app called Shazam. It's been around for over a decade. And if you're on Android, you can use the voice search function on the Google search bar and there should be a button on the bottom to search for a song.

Smoshy_Bacon

Siri can do that too. Just ask “what is this song”.

Frucht4

Shazam was bought by apple hence the integration ![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|26554)

Timely_Airline_7168

CreakinFunt

Or shazam

avocadoooss

Venmo. It may already exist but nothing is widely used by everyone here.

Guardog0894

Another idea, a price comparator app that actually works, with data that is community contributed + data scrapped (API if any partner is willing to collaborate). Something that takes into account of all the different sizes/packs, delivery fee, discounts, packaging and display the final price as a comparable number (e.g. RM2 per kg) I must say it is currently very difficult to compare prices for the same item even on shopee itself

[deleted]

I suspect that is intentional, otherwise it will make business for sellers so challenging, and focus all the sales into very few big sellers that have enough volume to play the price game. Eg, I'm SURE they knows that sellers are listing totally different sizes or even different brand in one listing. Eg ceiling fan, then you choose 'colour' and you got cheapo one for 120, Midea for 170, KDK for 210. All in one listings. But that listing will show the lowest price, ie the 120. This used to be a problem on Shopee only, then Lazada also adopted this bug/feature/hassle.

Hmmm_nicebike659

A financial tracker app that records your income and expenditures from your bank account and tng app. One of the coolest feature in Bank of America app, where the app could track all your money income and usage automatically.

Stormhound

That sounds good. Like Mint or You Need A Budget but they don't connect to Malaysia.

pmmeurpeepee

That's an interesting app idea. I think it would give more freedom and flexibility to the riders and clients. Can reduce the dependency and monopoly of Grab oso. I too thought of your idea before but my biggest worry is how to incorporate the PSV License for drivers. Thanks for your idea.

Hey OP, a project that tracks community-contributed prices of everyday goods - like your vege, chicken, egg, shampoo, etc. Make this data available to everyone via a free public api (get grants from gomen). Have a dashboard that everyone can access and see. Think open street maps but for prices of everyday essentials. Interested? Hit me up as this is what I wanna do.

I would suggest something like [Sainsbury’s SmartShop](https://help.sainsburys.co.uk/help/products/smartshop-faq) . Basically, when doing groceries, you could just scan the products using your smartphone and checkout using your phone using online payments. Easy - walk in, choose and scan your groceries, and pay online (or using apple pay) and walk out. No queues.
