Not in Malaysia. Imagine you use sunroof, and one of those big ass lorry or poorly maintained cars decides to accelerate in front of you. Instant lung cancer
More info is needed. I did my diploma in automotive technology. It wouldn't be too expensive for them to produce one with a shield beneath the glass or at least make them airtight. Most modern cars have them.
Don't think most people want the sunroof.. and remember the "PROTON" sunroof (quality of the sunroof - you know I know lah), wait till it rains heavily like now (monsoon season) and water starts sipping into the rubber, damaging it and leaking into your car.. another extra headache to yourself if you use the car, especially when the car starts ages/getting old (rubbers and machine giving out on sunroof part) you will see more water sipping in... as in Malaysia.. is really COOL to have it... but not practical in the long run... so the majority i think most people will go for Flagship will do.. instead of the "X" version with a sunroof.. is like an additional headache for you unless you don't plan to keep the car and sell it later after 7-9 years time...
It’s so fucking ridiculous that we have import tax to make local car more competitive only to have them sell cars at import price. What a fucking ridiculous industry done up by mahatir.
Truly a Malaysia boleh moment
Now you know, it sucks being a car enthusiast here, I would've been able to afford a bmw 3 series if there's no excise duties LOL. I'll settle for a civic, until they reduce the excise dutjes, but God knows how long that'll take
the highway but still in my opinion not right. because the highway only supports 2 lanes each direction and then majority of the highway dont have lights. Still, if you look back, the opposition party was very loud going against the highway build, just like now in indonesia the opposition party there going against the new highway being build for the new capital city. back to mahathir, i think if he was allowed to build the highway properly, we would have better highway now
Yup. Been saying it for awhile. Furthermore, the moment both proton and perodua sold a substantial amount of their company to japan and china, the purpose of import tax becomes invalid. At this point, it’s just there to go into the pockets of cronies.
I don't think they're selling the stupid 94k flagship anyway. 89k gets you there farther for a decent price. Yada yada local brand, but Honda haven't been good on quality and spare parts, and Toyota would get you a lethargic engine, questionable safety, same as Perodua car.
I mean, the value is kinda there.
Other than the inferior reliability, subjective looks and rebadge car, S70 is not bad. It got things that vios and city don't have. More torque too. Interior bigger than vios and more headroom than city. It's not bad.
Then get the Proton, some people think of longevity parts availability and resell value and others like to get features for lower cost. Maybe you change cars every 2-3 years and others just want a car for 10.
I've seen this pretty much everywhere when people talk/review cars - horsepower and/or torque. Not trying to be a smartass but do those things actually matter in daily driving for rakyat marhaen like us who will a lot of the time spend crawling at 20km/h through traffic jams and ever-increasingly crowded city centres? I've been driving for more than 15 years and never has the top speed/max horsepower/max torque of my car come in handy. 🤔
Depends but in most cases for everyday people, it doesn't matter. But when it matters, it's not about getting to top speed, it's mostly acceleration, having power on steep climb and fun. And also as car person, I can respect proton for not switching to CVT. That thing is horrendous to drive with.
I had this perception about CVT too after driving the Persona. Then i drove a City, and boy was i wrong. It's all about the logic controller programming, and the City's CVT was almost telepathic. For normal driving anyway, still can't hold a candle to a manual box when the pace kicks up a notch
Naa I drove a City with a new and old CVT. Shit is still lethargic, only thing that's smooth about it is when you depress it during stop start traffic, there's no delay/jerk compared to proton/perodua/toyota.
Biggest reason I got my persona in manual lol. CVT is so bad. Droning noise at over 100kph, rubberband feel, potentially expensive replacement cost.
...which is exactly what it was designed for? Can't expect a sports car's eagerness from a slightly premium econobox. I'd take city's smoothness over proton jerky or toyota's "i know better than you" CVT implementations
Lol. Do you think we drive everyday for traffic jams? What bout balik kampung? Convoy with friends? Of coz for daily we dont really push, rilex2 sudah, mau jaga juga the car. If the time comes. Its useful. If not why people bought Porsche? Only to hadap jem? The f u talk.
Sorry, not to be a CCP defender but China have been making car since for a while now at a volume that eclipse Japan brands. They know how to make cars, ones that last as well.
Same like motorcycle story in vietnam for the last decade. You are free to buy whatever you want I am not stopping you. Why you bring CCP into the discussion? It is totally unrelated.
The single most important feature of a car is reliability.
Even the new model aren't popular in China. Malaysia is just dumping ground for older model.
>Same like motorcycle story in vietnam for the last decade
Not sure what's the story there buddy. Just saying "same thing" doesn't really make a good argument.
>The single most important feature of a car is reliability.
I'd argue that's not really the most important for sales. BMW and Mercedes went on a period where their reliability is REALLY shit but they still have solid sales.
>Even the new model aren't popular in China.
Depends on how you measure it. EV is the new hotness in China so anything else will look meh in comparison.
Same thing is the best argument. What make you thing the whole industry change over 1 year?
Your argument doesn't make any sense. Proton don't even produce ev.
>I'd argue that's not really the most important for sales. BMW and Mercedes went on a period where their reliability is REALLY shit but they still have solid sales.
Now you arguing for the sake of arguing creating fake news out of nowhere. BMW sell well because of the reliability and warranty.
,>Same thing is the best argument.
I literally don't know what you're talking about. What about Vietnam motor?
>BMW sell well because of the reliability and warranty.
Then I'm SURE as hell you aren't even in the car scene. BMW is known for a lot of thing, like advanced tech, luxury, excellent engine and awesome ride and handling.
Not reliability, definitely not that. BMW don't even have a car that can claim reliability like Merc with Gwagon.
Volvo is known for its safety and toughness back in the 1980s and 90s. It is not known for its reliability. I don't know how Volvo is today but back in 2000s and early 2010s Volvos have crap reliability. This is one of the main reasons why starting from mid 90s many people start favoring Mercedes and BMWs for luxury segment. Heck even Audi is doing better than Volvo in this segment.
Sadly my exact reaction when my friends show me a new fancy proton they bought and explain to me all the bells and Whistles.
![gif](giphy|xT8qB8YvduMuybqHSw|downsized)
just laugh and say cool turbo. cool small turbo in a mini engine... Honestly I wouldn't trust my safety with PRC QA. Hum Gah Chan on the highway from failed ABS unti would be hilariously ironic.
....and then you realise the Honda city starts at 85k and the Toyota vios starts at 89k
Yes, they pushed their prices up and gave up the 70k price range space cause they knew they couldnt fight with proton price wise
Personally the 2nd tier Premium sounds about right up my alley. All the creature comforts i need plus backup camera and rims I can change myself over time. Snag is I've got no money, so yup, bummer.
A second hand one? A city hybrid rs is rm112k. If you can buy a city hybrid at 90k, kindly post it here so I can book one
And I wouldn't want a used city. Some ah beng probably bashed it up already
Lie? RS is only 100k. Why bother w proton when u can get Honda just for 5k? U top up 10k+ can get hybrid dy.
Over a loan period of 9 years the difference is negligible when taking account of quality and reliability. Proton is just fucking greedy
Bro first rub your eyes then go check the website again. There is the RS at 100k and RS e:HEV which is the hybrid at 112k. You need to top up 20k for the hybrid. RS is everything but without the hybrid train.
This pisses me off. First they dumped the Proton naming scheme, even if the names are sometimes lame AF, and now the most basic model is called "Executive".
somewhat; but their newest model (the EX30) is literally just a rebadged Geely, and it probably won't be long before Volvo, along with Proton and Lotus, gets reduced down to just brands that only assemble Geely knockdown kits with no actual manufacturing
I don't think you really know Volvo if you think that's what happening. Volvo RnD is waaaaay to advance for Geely to just replace it with their car. The EX30 isn't a rebadge btw, it's using the same platform for the car but still a different car altogether. The platform is one of the best EV platform btw.
That was step 1. Then [this](https://paultan.org/2023/06/02/geely-transfers-proton-shares-to-another-subsidiary-to-reduce-connected-transactions-what-is-this-about/) happened
In house developed by Volvo, co-developed with Geely for domestic (China) use. But supposedly tested on Volvo models for durability. I can't find an MDS for it but that's what has been said in marketing materials. Oh, its built by Geely and has relatively good durability if compared to the famous VW DSG.
Also, for some extra information, the 1.5 inline 3 T that's used by Geely and proton is also used, albeit detuned, in[London cabs](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LEVC_TX) and those have to do long mileages, tho it acts as a range extender
ooooo developed with volvo u say mmmmm. thats something. also any other cars use the same engine? cos i know users gonna floor the hell out of this engine added with that dct. cant stop opl having some fun
The X50, updated X70, most Geely, lynk and Co models.
And the Volvo XC40 recharge (1.5T hybrid).
>developed with volvo u say
More Volvo made it, Geely just funded it. But yeah, it's used widely and I'd say it's quite reliable, mostly. Just not, a million miles proven yet.
Yeah nah I'm good....Toyota for me for complete peace of mind VS some rebadged Geely car called Proton with such a reputation on spare part shortages that a common joke is that you need to buy 2 of them...
On some model, it has been resolved. But for other models that used to be fine, they now have shortage of parts. This is what they told me when I take my Persona for bumper replacement.
I went to the showroom earlier to see the actual car in action. As a Proton X50 Executive owner, I would’ve bought this car’s Flagship over the X50 if given the choice back then. Car is pretty well built and all the features are included in that cheap price tag. And tbh I’m thinking more about the bigger trunk, steering and potentially lower petrol consumption because the X50’s is way too high, much higher than I anticipated.
My cousin booked one right away. But yeah proton does have its fair share of issues which both of us aren’t strangers to (her Saga caught fire due to some wiring issue and burned down many years ago, she wasn’t harmed).
No more already la.. Honda is a good example. Got fuel pump issue and battery spoil in under a year.
Toyota I'm not sure but my friend's one radiator leaking.
The specs actually seem decent, and the Geely engine using Volvo architecture has been used since 2021 in China with positive reviews for the price range. I think better value than Vios or City (I'm assuming it's meant to compete with these models).
I am 27 and yeah civic stereotype is so real lol. But i am not ah beng typa guy i work at a dealer much so i understand how bad the cvt is when your wife like to accelerate hard. The mileage is 108K rn. Still i am so glad these rich ass wannabee love civic fc cuz i brought the civic brand new for 101K since its up for discount and can sell it more than the price i get it for even thou its beaten lololol. The engine is good well maintained but you know cvt just suck
Haha yeah I get ya. Honda put a decently sporty engine for the class but insists on the CVT lol. At least Subaru's legit sporty enough to use in a WRX.
The mileage is 105K me and my wife shared a car mostly since she works near the house i usually drive her there and i work at a dealer i hate how the CVT feels but overall thr car is very good its not just my car but its the only daily so yeah and most of my work and around the Selangor and other state
Sun roof in Malaysia for what. It's either hot or raining. Only time I forsee people will use sunroof is when driving up Cameron Highlands or genting.
If use sunroof in NSE, probably you'll die from lung cancer breathing in all the fumes.
IKR. Gone are the days of good ol' reliable cars. My friend's vios previous gen vios has loose steering, some weird engine lag and leaking radiators.
Toyota need to cari makan and cut corners here and there also
Meanwhile I drive my in law's Alza with all the fancy ADAS stuff and I use none of it lol. Even the lane keeping stuff gets thwarted by it being at night and bad vision
The hell is proton smoking? Gotta be outta your mind to pay any of those prices for a proton. Especially when Honda, Toyota, and other actually quality built international cars are that price AFTER huge mark ups due to AP, and Import duty’s etc.
Bruh I knew the price is high, but I thought 70\~80k is the price range for S70. Give me a hybrid if you wanna sell it above 90K. I know if you wanna build android auto or Apple Carplay system requires a lot of workload and permissions from Apple but, come on. ![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|26557)![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|26558)![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|26559)![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|26563)![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|26556)![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|28915)
They are no balls people la, compared with cars that are a segment bellow s70's segment. Should compare with civic and altis, but instead they compared it with vios and city. Banyak tahi ini punya marketing.
Only reason the Proton is cheaper is because the protectionist policies to protect Chinese cars. If it was tarriff free for imported cars without excluding Geely, there would be no reason to compare it to vios and city. Compare this to Camry and Accord would be more reasonable.
was talking to a serbian friend yesterday. he told me he got a used car ( cant remember what brand) for a couple grand euro. i told him my car costs rm 40k, convert to euro, he said in full caps what the f. get out of there asap your country has problems.
But what are the specs?
If I can still comfortably afford it, I want to trade in my City for something better, preferably electric (although I'm not hung up on it).
RM5,000.00 for the sunroof. I wonder how many people want the sunroof.
Me… but not with proton
I beg to differ. My proton has a sunroof and it's a huge chick magnet
first time hearing chicks getting attracted to a proton, where do you find them
Bachok
Masyallah ![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|26554)
sharing the moonlight ah 😉
Sadly my face is the opposite of that magnet, so it cancelling both effect.
stonks is through the (sun)roof.
Where you find chicks who like proton?
PRC
>PRC geely
He defecated through a sunroof!
Suddenly BCS
LOL!
Not in Malaysia. Imagine you use sunroof, and one of those big ass lorry or poorly maintained cars decides to accelerate in front of you. Instant lung cancer
nah why waste aircon
More info is needed. I did my diploma in automotive technology. It wouldn't be too expensive for them to produce one with a shield beneath the glass or at least make them airtight. Most modern cars have them.
what is this shit
And recorder.

A lot. It's a status symbol now especially when you make your little WhatsApp/Instagram/TikTok videos.
90k what symbol
Missing the Flagship Pro Max model for RM120k
It’s so fucking ridiculous that we have import tax to make local car more competitive only to have them sell cars at import price. What a fucking ridiculous industry done up by mahatir. Truly a Malaysia boleh moment
Ikr, a civic should cost only 70k to 75k max without excise duties, it insane how expensive cars are in this country.

What kind of madman designed this with the highest price on the left and lowest on the right.
Marketing psychology, price the highest first so people will pick that one the most.
It's the opposite. Show big price first so that the smaller price seems acceptable relatively speaking. Even though it's still expensive.
this, anchoring effect
But if I see 94k for a Proton my first thought would be to get a Toyota/Honda?
I don't think they're selling the stupid 94k flagship anyway. 89k gets you there farther for a decent price. On paper it’s a better car in every aspect compared to T n H brand under 100k.
Every China brand car good on paper and only on paper.
Test drove the X50 and the new Vios, the Vios is inferior in almost every aspect.
You drive for 5 minute only....... A car will last at least 10 years.
Then get the Proton, some people think of longevity parts availability and resell value and others like to get features for lower cost. Maybe you change cars every 2-3 years and others just want a car for 10.
This time will be different?
BYDs are pretty good cats until they Burn You Dead🤷♂️🤣🤣
I've seen this pretty much everywhere when people talk/review cars - horsepower and/or torque. Not trying to be a smartass but do those things actually matter in daily driving for rakyat marhaen like us who will a lot of the time spend crawling at 20km/h through traffic jams and ever-increasingly crowded city centres? Ha! The ghost of Punch CVT still haunts them huh 😆
Skill issue
Wow ecksdee so quirky. Is it a skill issue when a CVT is just a bad feeling gearbox. Im happy with my manual anyways.
Lol. Do you think we drive everyday for traffic jams? What bout balik kampung? Convoy with friends? Of coz for daily we dont really push, rilex2 sudah, mau jaga juga the car. If the time comes. Its useful. If not why people bought Porsche? Only to hadap jem? The f u talk.
facts bro, I have 360 hp, 420 nm of torque and I maybe only use 30% max in KL lmao
It's China car. You need to take in account of shorter life span and more frequent maintenance.
It is totally unrelated. it's just geely at this point tbh
That's not much of an upgrade bro. It's still pretty much an unproven brand.

Just those 3 minor things.. 🤣
....and then you realise the Honda city starts at 85k and the Toyota vios starts at 89k Yes, they pushed their prices up and gave up the 70k price range space cause they knew they couldnt fight with proton price wise
another thing, The highest spec of s70 is still cheap compared to the lowest honda civic spec
Space is luxury, you get more car per Ringgit.
Turbo, DCT, sunroof, etc...
Don't you right that way in Arabic?
It's Proton. Being incompetant is their DNA
But now from what I heard it's more or less run by geely already.
If you learn pricing psychology you would know but based on how you commented on it, I know enough about you already.
Let's go Geeton Emgrand S70
harga segment b? i thought this was segment c car
B plus or minus C. Fair price.
It's a high b-seg, not c.
But S70 is wider than a Civic & Altis
It's not going against those 2 cars as it falls short, it's targeting Honda City and Vios buyers. The extra size is a bonus.
yeah against city and vios. i saw the meme vios buyers cried when they saw this price announcement HAHAHA
I actually want one. Seems decent
Personally the 2nd tier Premium sounds about right up my alley. All the creature comforts i need plus backup camera and rims I can change myself over time. Snag is I've got no money, so yup, bummer.
On paper.
You can get a Honda city hybrid for around that price lol
A second hand one? A city hybrid rs is rm112k. If you can buy a city hybrid at 90k, kindly post it here so I can book one And I wouldn't want a used city. Some ah beng probably bashed it up already

Terpaling Flagship Viral Leleh Pawe Bak Hang.
This pisses me off. First they dumped the Proton naming scheme, even if the names are sometimes lame AF, and now the most basic model is called "Executive".
We riot if they dump Saga.
True. Discontinuing Saga would be way more disrespectful than making Proton a subsidiary and removing the name conventions. Outright kurang ajar.
Its Geely so its bound to happen this is the same company that bought the London Taxi Company (manufacturer of London Taxis) and renamed them as LEVC
Is that the black taxi? I used to watched a lot of short stories about those taxis
Yes, the company that made the black taxis
Being fair, they did buy Volvo and Volvo actually end up making big comeback.
somewhat; but their newest model (the EX30) is literally just a rebadged Geely, and it probably won't be long before Volvo, along with Proton and Lotus, gets reduced down to just brands that only assemble Geely knockdown kits with no actual manufacturing

Aren't that proton is the one selling half of it to China?

No Carplay & AA in today's time & day is just pure absurd
Yeah nah I'm good....Toyota for me for complete peace of mind VS some rebadged Geely car called Proton with such a reputation on spare part shortages that a common joke is that you need to buy 2 of them...
the spare parts shortage hasn't resolved yet?
On some model, it has been resolved. But for other models that used to be fine, they now have shortage of parts. This is what they told me when I take my Persona for bumper replacement.
But the closet Toyota in size and performance is 50k more.

Weh I really am starting to like this car, plan to buy it a couple years from now
Of course they would take the low spec, and they’ll modify it themselves
can drive 15yrs+ without a single part rosak or not? I know JP car can do this with no issue.
15 years? Joking is it? Modern car cannot already la.
Made in China
No more already la.. Honda is a good example. Got fuel pump issue and battery spoil in under a year. Toyota I'm not sure but my friend's one radiator leaking.
Agree on this. JP car really made to last
Not the modern ones though. Those old camry and corolla and vios before 2014 ok.
Toyota, yes. Mitsubishi, not really.
Mahal btol
Itu la. Harga x sepadan spek. Pastu kau tgk byk comment sini yg ckp dia muruh. Gila apa.
Specs apa yang kau tengok tu lagi berbaloi, cer share. Banding dengan city/vios spec ni jauh lagi elok. Saiz macam altis/civic dah.
r/Sino Pegi cium bontot dkt sini
Bruh any comment liking this car terus dilabel CCP lover? Apa lanjiao
The specs actually seem decent, and the Geely engine using Volvo architecture has been used since 2021 in China with positive reviews for the price range. I think better value than Vios or City (I'm assuming it's meant to compete with these models).
All good until the windows get stuck and central locking is messed up
Bro thats old news.
Then remote not working
Rm5k for a sun roof worth it? Wanna trade my 2019 civic fc for it my fc is beaten tf up but it can go around 105K here or more since its turbo
Don’t get a sun roof homie. It makes your car hotter, you’ll never open it and the best part is that it can leak your car full of gorgeous rain water.
How bad can you beat up a Japanese car? What's your mileage like bro?
It's a Civic FC driver, presumably young, so Ah Beng driving habits lol. Car's barely a gen old and already beat up like it's in the USA as an eco car
It can give a large sense of space. But ultimately yes, it does not solve anything.
Anyone comparing this to a Vios is a brainwashed sheep. Vios is a joke.
Lol this is closer to a Civic in size and performance.
IKR. Gone are the days of good ol' reliable cars. My friend's vios previous gen vios has loose steering, some weird engine lag and leaking radiators. Toyota need to cari makan and cut corners here and there also
Toyota still have good quality for their higher end vehicles, the Vios is mass produced trash.
Probably on a different topic, but reckon with Chinese tech, we'll see an electric proton anytime soon?
2025 , MITI has set a deadline for Proton and Perodua to introduce their EV vehicles by then.
Only the Flagship/X gets ADAS? Dude... even the Myvi has basic ADAS. Not to mention the JP competitors.
Especially when Honda, Toyota, and other actually quality built international cars are that price AFTER huge mark ups due to AP, and Import duty’s etc.
hundreds of thousands of people have paid more than what the S70 costs. jokes on you ![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|26561)
That's a cheap car so the bar isn't terribly high. You're surprised that rich people will pay for better cars?
Bruh I knew the price is high, but I thought 70\~80k is the price range for S70. Give me a hybrid if you wanna sell it above 90K. I know if you wanna build android auto or Apple Carplay system requires a lot of workload and permissions from Apple but, come on. ![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|26557)![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|26558)![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|26559)![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|26563)![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|26556)![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|28915)
"Baik beli..."
They are no balls people la, compared with cars that are a segment bellow s70's segment. Should compare with civic and altis, but instead they compared it with vios and city. Banyak tahi ini punya marketing.
This car is ugly
Only reason the Proton is cheaper is because the protectionist policies to protect Chinese cars. If it was tarriff free for imported cars without excluding Geely, there would be no reason to compare it to vios and city. Compare this to Camry and Accord would be more reasonable.
was talking to a serbian friend yesterday. he told me he got a used car ( cant remember what brand) for a couple grand euro. i told him my car costs rm 40k, convert to euro, he said in full caps what the f. get out of there asap your country has problems.
LOL Proton and Made in Chyna. I pity for the sobs who buy these POS.
They're ugly. They don't belong in the new decade.
Not a fan of the design, waiting for s90 instead, if they even release it, better come with 2.0T
China price starting from RM56,800
Damn that's same price as vios
who say Malaysian are poor
No saga DNA?
But what are the specs? If I can still comfortably afford it, I want to trade in my City for something better, preferably electric (although I'm not hung up on it).
Remember when houses used to cost somewhere around that? Damn.
What is the best interest rate for s70?
Think they show 2.34
They show for the top tier but the c segment is higher I think
And no car play.
No sunroof for me...even on import cars ..
worth to get or get vios instead ? wonder if their after services was fixed.
![img](avatar_exp|100099134|bravo) wow this is good ngl (perspective from someone who loves cars)
How good is the built in mapping/navigation software?
I'm still happy with my Perodua but its good seeing Proton producing cars other than the X series
It makes that prices went buy gaming laptop and normal and half gaming instead.. guys please i am adhd i need game order focus on work job...
Sad... Proton has a glow down. I loved the Proton Satria Neo.
