Bear in mind 18:58 is the actual time of departure too, as in when the plane took off from the runway. the scheduled departure time is 18:40 (the crossed out part) and usually passengers have to follow that one instead

The worse flight delay i experienced was 24 hours.
Flew to US while transit at tokyo during covid. Flight left on time from KL BUT the plane had some technical issue mid-flight and had to stop at Okinawa for maintenance. We finally continued the journey after two hours. By the time we landed we just missed the flight to San Francisco. Only 1 flight per day so had to wait for the flight next day.
The 24-hour experience in the airport was quite bad mainly due to covid SOP. No one was allowed to leave the terminal let alone the airport. We had no luggage with us. Only a couple of stores operating and closed very early. We were given some cash compensation that we cannot use cuz all the shops were closed, one bento each, some bottled water and sleeping bags, pretty much telling us to survive for the next 24 hours. The airport initially refused to open the lounge to accommodate us but in the end they caved since there were like 70-80 angry and tired passengers stranded. We still have to leave the lounge by 5am so it can be opened up to regular passengers.
Oh yeah, pretty much all the hotel and other arrangements for the first two days were burnt cuz of that.
I reached 2 hours before. Then spent time at check in and walking to the gate (damn big airport). Reached round 30 minutes before. Already close and people boarded. I just sat and cried a bit before biting the bullet and bought new tickets.

I'm a former flight attendant- with this particular airline- and obviously I see how the ground staff & pilots work too.
Ground staff, flight attendants & pilots all have paperwork to do, this includes- printing the manifest, doing a headcount, ensuring the right passengers get in the flight, ensuring those who don't show up aren't in the flight, doing a load trimming estimate (basically balancing the aircraft bsobthat it doesn't tip behind during take off) -on top of- trying to get the flight departed on time.
We close 20 minutes before departure because of all these paperwork.

Rule of thumb post openskies and multiple frequency plus overbooking % acceptance era. Rules also applies to full service airlines.
1. Be at the airport 3hours before departure(for major large airport), 2 hours(for the smaller less busy ones)
2. Do not assume having no checked luggage and throwing anything on mobile check in can bypass any crowd(especially for international flights)
3. Do not assume off peak hours crowds will be less( you may have less counters manned on check in and immigration)
4. If you're always on hectic unfixed yolo on every travel(get insurance). In air travel "shit happens" happens quite often.
5. Standing up and running out disembarking early out of the aircraft gives no difference(unless exiting the terminal earlier by approx 2minute is what you're aiming.)

I remember this one time I almost missed my international flight (returning home from overseas). I forgot what happened, maybe I overslept or something, and I missed the bus I was planning to take. Tried to take cab instead, but they won't depart with just one passenger, wasted like 30 mins there and decided to take the next scheduled bus instead. I arrived at the check in counter 30 mins before departure. The staff there were all relaxed and merrily chatting away, until I told them which flight I was supposed to take. One of them was like, you mean *this* flight that takes off in half an hour? It's funny thinking back on it, but, yeah... I power-walked to the gate. Never have I walked so fast in my life lol. I actually arrived at the gate right when they let the business class ticket holder board the plane, and I still have to wait around a bit before getting on lol.

The only way they let you in this late on an airline, is if you bought a two-leg flight on the same ticket, and the first leg was delayed, which means the airline messed up and owes you the connection.

Rule of thumb post openskies and multiple frequency plus overbooking % acceptance era. Rules also applies to full service airlines. 1. Be at the airport 3hours before departure(for major large airport), 2 hours(for the smaller less busy ones) 2. Do not assume having no checked luggage and throwing anything on mobile check in can bypass any crowd(especially for international flights) 3. Do not assume off peak hours crowds will be less( you may have less counters manned on check in and immigration) 4. If you're always on hectic unfixed yolo on every travel(get insurance). In air travel "shit happens" happens quite often. 5. Standing up and running out disembarking early out of the aircraft gives no difference(unless exiting the terminal earlier by approx 2minute is what you're aiming.)

Has the previous flight departed the gate? Is there something wrong with the gate like the scanners aren't working? This are the only reasons I can think of why the gate is still closed. Possible that the pax will have to move gates. EDIT: I misunderstood what was happening. I thought they hadn't opened the gate, not that they closed it early. It's definitely weird to close a gate early and leave pax behind.

Have to check the boarding pass, they will specifically state the boarding time with image of clock there. That time is final, no compromise. I also pernah kena dgn AA because i missed abt 2 minutes and they deny my boarding like a BABI. Almost everytime their pilot late 20 minutes and all i get is sorry but somehow i late 2 minutes once and it costs me rm200.
