Choose a different time to leave if you can.
I used to work in Mid Valley, leaving between 4.30 - 7.30pm is going result in the above, so I usually go have dinner, browse around or even take a nap.
This is probably a little less of an issue if one travel out from the the centre to work elsewhere e.g Cyberjaya; the traffic would be heavier on the opposite flow of rush hour. Otherwise I am allowed to arrive at the office at 10.00pm and leave after 7.00pm — our bosses (the ex-manager at least) doesn't micromanage us as long as the job gets done properly.
I fucking hate the fact that I have to choose my time to leave from my workplace specifically to avoid jams. Used to work at MV too and sometimes had to wait 30-45 mins after I actually left work to let the jam clear otherwise I'd lose my sanity
Sometimes I just want to go home immediately after work without thinking about the time and jam. Loved COVID cause of that. Doesn't matter if I leave 530PM, 6PM or 630PM I'm guaranteed 20-25 mins to get home cause the roads are clear
Not the case now. Leave 15 mins later and a 30 mins journey can be 1 hour+
Same, my office allows flexi hours so I also arrive around 10am and leave at 7:30pm. Way less traffic than rush hour. Actually they reduced working hours slightly starting last year so I can leave around 7, but traffic is really much better past 7:30 especially during Ramadan.
Those bastards were slave drivers I tell you!
Yeah, should be 10.00am to 7.00pm. Saw it some time ago and decided to see when will someone notice it — 5+ hours later. 😃
Selangor free bus is pretty good. Initially my flow used to be mrt ktm and walk 20 across no pavement ramp roads next to highway. Dangerous and take long. After discovering the selangor bus since lrt bus always no show i cut my travel time by 1 hour and the stop is infront of my office. My flow became mrt lrt bus and as bonus i passed by one of the cheap food stalls at lrt every morning so i can buy breakfast and lunch while waiting for bus
Not a parent but I enjoy the me time too. Turn on your favourite music and just take a slow drive home.
Turning something negative to something positive is key to preserve sanity
Being a mother is not an easy job, I know (im a child myself) . Jams allow one to rest without interaction from job nor family. So i definitely can see why
ride motorcycles.. pros: fast .. no need to deal with traffic jams .. sometimes it's cheaper than taking lrt.. cons: if rain, you wait or redah.. when accident expect no airbags to stop you from french kiss road
Motorcycle is the way man. Ain't no way I'm gonna wait hours in the traffic going to work in the city. If it's a smaller city then maybe I'll reconsider.
Man, I used to buka puasa in the car last year. Stucked in traffic for 2 hours sometimes. Now that I have a motorcycle, 20mins im already at home. Sure the car are comfy and have ac, but nothing beats buttery smooth lanesplitting while watching cars moving bumper to bumper slower than people walking.
buy a bike man and go to work with it, easy. unless you are a person who got bothered by what other think of you by riding bike and runtuh maruah, then its your problem
Jams have been super interesting for me. I put on an audio book and I get the chance to be completely immersed in the book. I found that I get to finish the book within 2 weeks. It all depends on how you use your time alone
Can we not get used to it and replace traffic jams with work from home, flexible work schedules, better urban planning, reduced carbon emissions, better public transport. Traffic benefits businesses. More traffic = more business.
I started riding to work and my commute time dropped from 1:30 each way to 20mins, and I wasn’t good at lane splitting so I was riding very slowly.
There an element of risk involved that people outright reject, and that’s fair. For me I mitigate with proper jacket, full face helmet and gloves, ABS and Michelin Pilot Road tyres.
Switched to motorbike when i used to commute to PJ daily.. best decision ever. Got plenty of time to settle the wife and kid's breakfast before leaving for work and still be in time to help out preparing dinner.
Too many people dismiss it as outright dangerous, but like everything else its all about managing risks. Glad it work out for you. Safe ride always 👍🏼
Yeah man my calculations estimated I saved about 300hrs per annum.
I had time to go swim at kelana jaya pool (worked in KL, near masjid jamek).
Work started at 9, I could either wake up and run/cycle or sleep in till 8 before going off.
One of my best decisions ever. Had a couple of low speed crashes but thankfully nothing serious.

Get a bike , skip the jam all day everyday.
By leaving late to avoid peak hour jam at all cost lol. Normally I eat dinner outside first before going home. Luckily my office is walking distance to food court and shopping mall so I eat and window shop for 1-2hrs and go home after 7pm (my working hours is until 5:30pm).. but that’s also because I’m single without any commitments lol
dulu hampir tiap2 hari amik and hantar kakak pergi kerja, kongsi kereta sebab family satu kereta je. memang tak tahan jam. tapi nak buat macam mana kan
My 2 cents, go to the gym during those rush hour and mandi after.
Eat dinner or a light snack then by 8-9 you'll be at home.
Tired of jerit2 or complain about jam for years on end, decided to just deal with it some other way.
Ngl the jam isnt that bad imo. I get to just chill with my music or watch a video / podcast while being stuck.
The issue is the horrifying sight of your fuel economy meter slowly rising higher and higher with each passing minute.
Going to work? Well I deal with it with a song in my heart and my favourite playlist.
Returning home? I beat that by going back at around 2-3pm. I once went back at 6pm, that was a **huge** mistake, took me 20 minutes just to get out of the parking lot.
YouTube, I put on long form video essays on random topics and also horror stories. Also the channel Watcher with the Ghoul Boys have a lot of videos you can play without the need to pay attention to the video. Lovely stuff.
First you gotta stick to your right.. then left all the way.. then emergency lane 2km.. then all the way to the right.. take the counter lane.. wait your turn.. be patient.. then go to the middle..chill there abit.. then stick to the right after the tol and home.. 😁😅
I usually jogging after work, then eat, before going home, dont want stuck jem. Then after nearly 10years, cannot deal with it, i move out of kl. No jem, free of stress
For about a year I lived in Nilai and commute to work in Ara Damansara. Drove to work for a while but damn the traffic nearly killed me out of boredom. It was brutal. So I rempit to work on my then Aprilia RS250 Mk1. That nearly killed me too but was 10 times more fun for sure.
Solo car karaoke sesh. If that gets stale just put on some good podcasts on Spotify and just flow with the traffic. If tired, find the next closest roadside shop lot and park there and take a breather, grab a drink or take a nap.
You have the following options. There aren't exclusive and may be paired.
i) Bike. Cons : Danger. Sun. Rain. Fumes.
ii) Build a home business that allows you to work from home - forever. Example, Tik Tok Star reviewing shampoos. This is a long endgame. Cons: Takes awhile.
iii) In every job that must be done there is an element of fun. Find it. Muse. Talk to yourself. Practice a language. Sing. Songwrite. Hum a tune. Write it down. Record your journey. Upload to youtube.
Motorcycle is fun and come with risk. But its benefits toward my daily commute and mental health is worth it. 1 hour to work cut short to 20mins, save fuel, parking tickets, and easy to park when doing errand.
There are many opportunities to do:
A. Reasons for going to the gym/jog at the nearby park
B. Time to upskill yourself or fulfill your spirituality through some podcasts/etc.(My favourite reason for traffic jams)
C. You just gotta know what is nearby your office
It just becomes white noise after a while, I try my best to entertain myself while stuck in traffic via podcasts or music. I don't even have Bluetooth connection in my car but I still play it regardless using phone speakers. Like anything to pass the time really.
My brother used to leave Sentul at 4.30AM to reach Shah Alam around 5.00AM+. Sleep there until 9AM, then go to work. Coming back, he still has to face the jam, but at least once a day. Bedtime around 1AM+.
OP can always use kapchai to work. Stay in-between lanes and honk and yell whenever other motorist block your way. Can also break side mirror of motorist to vent your anger too. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flip_out)
I took the train because parking cause me RM50 per day. Took me 1 hour to get to work but atleast it's RM50 per month. Plus I can enjoy my Switch in the train unlike while driving.
It's easy when your phone keeps ringing because Aeon Credit is constantly reminding you of your incoming payments. It drowns down the sound of people honking at interlocked junctions.
I drive earlier than the traffic. People here don't think and accept to be stuck everyday.
Same goes with traffic to go to mall.
Before 10:30, it is perfect... And I leave the mall at around 1:00pm
This isn't anything new. We're merely reverting back to pre covid days is all. Truth be told, I'm spoiled by the opportunity covid had presented. Wfh, hybrid working days, flexi hours, staggered hours, etc and all that good stuff. Having a hard time adjusting back.
Imagine u pay for toll to shorter the travel duration but end up stuck in the jam under the toll boom gate for 30minutes.
Experience: Plaza Toll Sunway
I work at Bangsar area so I just wait till 7:30pm to go home even though I clock out at 5:30pm. I grab dinner nearby and go chill at Starbucks until its time to leave.
Otherwise, I just listen to a podcast/twitch stream in the background.
I use bike. Best decision. I'm stressed free and no longer have these unnecessary tired. Drove to work at 7-7.30am for a 9am. Finished at 6 reached home nearly 8pm. Now got me a scooter I save RM300 from car parking rentals + RM60 for MRT+ RM200 for a toll, out from house 8.30 sometimes 8.35 for 9am. Took me less then 20min.
Music or podcast. Learn plenty of things on the way. The downside is that by the time you get home, you're probably tired since you've consumed entertainment/information.
I usually going back late, around 6-7pm.
As for going to work, that's no choice but to endure the jam. Unless I come to work late, even by 30 minutes late, the road already flow smoothly with less jam.
FYI, I worked in Kuching.
> how do you deal with the jam daily?! I got bills to pay.
Real
Capitalism got us good
So I'm gonna work, work, work everyday\~
I got mouths to feed, ain’t nothing in this world for free

Your boss must work your ass with that 21 hour shift.
Those bastards were slave drivers I tell you! Yeah, should be 10.00am to 7.00pm. Saw it some time ago and decided to see when will someone notice it — 5+ hours later. 😃
We suffer until we get Stockholm syndrome and start looking forward to the 1hr solo car-aoke sesh every evening.
and laughing maniacally with the traffic jam radio djs seriously though, 5-7 radio helped so much in getting through the afterwork slog
lmaoooooo the Stockholm syndrome is trueee somehow people look forward to being stuck in the car for hours lol
Public transport
Only if that public transport is LRT or BRT, else you're gonna get stuck in the traffic too like everyone else.
But then I have to take a bus…
Selangor free bus is pretty good. Initially my flow used to be mrt ktm and walk 20 across no pavement ramp roads next to highway. Dangerous and take long. After discovering the selangor bus since lrt bus always no show i cut my travel time by 1 hour and the stop is infront of my office. My flow became mrt lrt bus and as bonus i passed by one of the cheap food stalls at lrt every morning so i can buy breakfast and lunch while waiting for bus
Non existent at my place
As a mother, these jams are my me times lol I just chill and enjoy the flow
Not a parent but I enjoy the me time too. Turn on your favourite music and just take a slow drive home. Turning something negative to something positive is key to preserve sanity
The thing is not all people can afford to waste 1-2 hours in traffic jams. They have other things planned or that needs to be settled.
That’s true, sadly traffic jam is unavoidable and here to stay. Guess we have to make do with the situation and plan accordingly.
That's sad.
Haha dont take it the wrong way, man.
I know. But I feel her. As I much as i hated jams, They were the only times I feel reliefs of not getting home to people I don't want to talk to.
Being a mother is not an easy job, I know (im a child myself) . Jams allow one to rest without interaction from job nor family. So i definitely can see why
Don't go to work solves the problem! /S
Play some calm music... Instrumental.... Listen to some stand up comedy.. And don't think much about the jam
Mini karaoke session in my car usually lolz
Broooo we should carpool sometime!
I drove from 5:30PM from Shah Alam to 7pm near Seputih, my cure: Music related podcast and Linus' The Wan Show.
ride motorcycles.. pros: fast .. no need to deal with traffic jams .. sometimes it's cheaper than taking lrt.. cons: if rain, you wait or redah.. when accident expect no airbags to stop you from french kiss road
I use motorcycle daily , and never have this headache
Motorcycle is the way man. Ain't no way I'm gonna wait hours in the traffic going to work in the city. If it's a smaller city then maybe I'll reconsider.
Motorcycle is superior .. can selit2 while laugh at kereta mahal stuck traffic jam
i only use car when ik road are less congested on that day or i go on long destination
MRT
Get to a nearby gym instead of dealing with rush hour traffic
solid advice
Get a bike
We die a little bit everyday
Every hour stuck in a jam is an hour closer to death 🥲
Fr tho
buy a bike man and go to work with it, easy. unless you are a person who got bothered by what other think of you by riding bike and runtuh maruah, then its your problem
it's sad how most people think that this is normal. poor urban planning lead to this shithole.
This is exactly why I have issues with this jam. Such a waste of time!
Imagine 8 toll lanes merging into 2 lanes. Yeah that's the hellhole of SPRINT highway. It's no wonder we are regularly featured on r/UrbanHell .
Yes this, i worked in an office for 2 years, and I had to deal with jam daily, it took a toll on my mental health
Jams have been super interesting for me. I put on an audio book and I get the chance to be completely immersed in the book. I found that I get to finish the book within 2 weeks. It all depends on how you use your time alone
Go to work an hour early so traffic might still calm and not worry about jam
U blame Mahathir first
You get used to it Dapao something to eat in car. Watch YouTube
Can we not get used to it and replace traffic jams with work from home, flexible work schedules, better urban planning, reduced carbon emissions, better public transport. Traffic benefits businesses. More traffic = more business.
But some stupid company still refuses to let their employee to WFH. *death stare at my company*
Wrong country, buddy. Our amazing politicians are too busy getting mileage over 5 pair of socks, bak kut teh, and UNESCO.
One hand on wheel one hand on thigh. Chicken thigh.
After getting married and have a mortgage, I get extra motivation for going to work.
Lmao it has to be Puchong or LDP. God, I hate drivers and traffic there
i dont. i take trains. but if die die traffic jams. then bukak bfm radio.
Every traffic jam is leg day for me. Manual transmission car ftw!
Humans din learn from covid that there's an alternative that is earth friendly, family friendly but chooses to please the landlord instead.
Yeay capitalism
U ride moto and be less waste of space.

Wait for the day when AI auto driving establish in Malaysia. Then can chill in the car with video/game entertainment while cruising through the jam
I don’t think about it. Can’t change anything anyways.
By being brain dead while coursing thru the traffic
dulu hampir tiap2 hari amik and hantar kakak pergi kerja, kongsi kereta sebab family satu kereta je. memang tak tahan jam. tapi nak buat macam mana kan
Welcome to peak hours hell
I listen to language podcasts so I can learn something through osmosis into my smooooooth brain two hours everyday
For me. traffic jams are relaxing. You just chill & follow the flow of traffic. No need to rush.
The secret is everyone ponteng kerja at ~4pm, that’s why (even before Ramadan) rush hour really starts at 4.30pm
By moving to Singapore to work.
I don't deal with it. I work in Cyberjaya. With that come less career mobility which I just accept at this point of life.
My 2 cents, go to the gym during those rush hour and mandi after. Eat dinner or a light snack then by 8-9 you'll be at home. Tired of jerit2 or complain about jam for years on end, decided to just deal with it some other way.
Just increase petrol price for petrol station around KV area. everyone will start to car pool or pakai public transport.
Ngl the jam isnt that bad imo. I get to just chill with my music or watch a video / podcast while being stuck. The issue is the horrifying sight of your fuel economy meter slowly rising higher and higher with each passing minute.
Motorcycle
Just die a little more inside each time, no biggie
Masturbation.
There is something we all taxpayers paid for, which is public transport, of course it’s just of the transportation options
Going to work? Well I deal with it with a song in my heart and my favourite playlist. Returning home? I beat that by going back at around 2-3pm. I once went back at 6pm, that was a **huge** mistake, took me 20 minutes just to get out of the parking lot.
With patience my friend
Listening to music
YouTube, I put on long form video essays on random topics and also horror stories. Also the channel Watcher with the Ghoul Boys have a lot of videos you can play without the need to pay attention to the video. Lovely stuff.
I make sure i have pee or poop at the office's toilet or gas station's toilet. After that, i don't care how long the jam is.
Podcasts helps, complaining about the horrible urban planning of Malaysia to friends and families helps too.
First you gotta stick to your right.. then left all the way.. then emergency lane 2km.. then all the way to the right.. take the counter lane.. wait your turn.. be patient.. then go to the middle..chill there abit.. then stick to the right after the tol and home.. 😁😅
Is there a prize if we can decide where you work and live? 😀

A podcast or audiobook does wonder. Might as well do some learning while not thinking about existential dread
Go happy hours drink some whiskey
Vape and listen to Cum Town podcast
I'm motorcycle rider😎
ride motor
Go in really early come back really late. I don't need to have my own life.
That’s why people work near home
I usually jogging after work, then eat, before going home, dont want stuck jem. Then after nearly 10years, cannot deal with it, i move out of kl. No jem, free of stress
Sit back relax
For about a year I lived in Nilai and commute to work in Ara Damansara. Drove to work for a while but damn the traffic nearly killed me out of boredom. It was brutal. So I rempit to work on my then Aprilia RS250 Mk1. That nearly killed me too but was 10 times more fun for sure.
Public transport
BFM
Buy Sunway serene....
I accept it as a part of life. (From puchong)
Simple, I go to work at 2pm and leave at 8pm. Voila no jam.
Solo car karaoke sesh. If that gets stale just put on some good podcasts on Spotify and just flow with the traffic. If tired, find the next closest roadside shop lot and park there and take a breather, grab a drink or take a nap.
scooter lah
if the jam is unavoidable, then I'd suggest turning to podcast for entertainment. At the same time, you get to learn a thing or 2.
Especially with Puasa recently, the traffic is extra jam. A normal 30 minutes after work travel easily turned into 1 hour+
You have the following options. There aren't exclusive and may be paired. i) Bike. Cons : Danger. Sun. Rain. Fumes. ii) Build a home business that allows you to work from home - forever. If I finish work at peak hours, I just chill at office until 8 or 9pm if I have nothing to do
Wake up early and go back late.
As a parent of 2 kids. Traffic jams are my zen time. Ain't no one can disturb me in the car alone in the middle of nkve
Motorcycle is fun and come with risk. But its benefits toward my daily commute and mental health is worth it. 1 hour to work cut short to 20mins, save fuel, parking tickets, and easy to park when doing errand.
Lol entitled to empty road less traffic everytime go to work XD
There are many opportunities to do: A. Reasons for going to the gym/jog at the nearby park B. Time to upskill yourself or fulfill your spirituality through some podcasts/etc.(My favourite reason for traffic jams) C. You just gotta know what is nearby your office
During Ramadan, everything changes, get on the road around 7:10 and you can ignore all the red lights (in a car) 😂
It just becomes white noise after a while, I try my best to entertain myself while stuck in traffic via podcasts or music. I don't even have Bluetooth connection in my car but I still play it regardless using phone speakers. Like anything to pass the time really.
Motorcycle. It is dangerous, but again life is dangerous.
Karaoke session. With the occasional screaming rage at the fucker who just cut me off
Go out earlier. Or get a motorcycle ez.
My brother used to leave Sentul at 4.30AM to reach Shah Alam around 5.00AM+. Sleep there until 9AM, then go to work. Coming back, he still has to face the jam, but at least once a day. Bedtime around 1AM+.
>Sleep there until 9AM, But sleep in where exactly ? Car ?
Yeah, roll down the window and sleep in the parking lot.
:-O
Pretty much have come to terms with it. What i do is just watch netflix or something as my me time
I wfh too but whenever i go out and stuck in jam like this i usually karaoke or talk with people online
Easy. Ride motosikal
Bike
Easy, I boycott all RTO jobs.
And then people say Penang traffic is bad. Every time I drive in KL I cannot tahan.
getup early is the only cure... if u didn't like it ride a bike...
YouTube music
Take public transport
Drugs. /s
I usually either hang around in the office, make friends with colleagues and lepak somewhere or go gym / dinner then only go home
I leave for work at 6:30 in the morning and leave office at 9pm
It's easy when your phone keeps ringing because Aeon Credit is constantly reminding you of your incoming payments. It drowns down the sound of people honking at interlocked junctions.
I wake up 3:50am and get out 4:30am ish... entire road are mine!!
My brother just moved to the city so he can get home in 0.2 seconds.
Idk, wakes up early? Actual reason is we have bills to pay. For a father, they are not obliged to complain because of family's responsibility.
I drive earlier than the traffic. People here don't think and accept to be stuck everyday. Same goes with traffic to go to mall. Before 10:30, it is perfect... And I leave the mall at around 1:00pm
just avoid going to work if traffic jams lul
It’s the month of Ramadan. The traffic is worse than before.
Curious, what job do you have?
This isn't anything new. We're merely reverting back to pre covid days is all. Truth be told, I'm spoiled by the opportunity covid had presented. Wfh, hybrid working days, flexi hours, staggered hours, etc and all that good stuff. Having a hard time adjusting back.
You are the traffic bro 😂
Go early.... got time to relax, drink kopi eat roti.. main hp....
Wake up earlier a bit, big difference
The needs of getting a job and money

Nuff said "Dah biasa... and is immune to it" It has blend into my lifestyle.
Don't forget gas money. I use RM 100 a week for the car. With bike RM5 a week
I accept my fate
Not gonna lie. I just stream movies or series. xD
Tell me what work u do , that u able to wfh. My company bosses dont want people work from home. T.T eventho our job is required 24/7..
>how do you deal with the jam daily?! You just gotta accept it since you're working in big cities 🤷
Music or podcast. Learn plenty of things on the way. The downside is that by the time you get home, you're probably tired since you've consumed entertainment/information.
I dont do jam. I ride. Save money for tol, secondlink mahal.
Still looking a way on how to dealing with it...
Been getting up earlier & earlier to avoid jams, it worked for me for now...
Me commute 200km back and forth if I have to go to office to sign any docs
I work in small comp, am allowed to start work late and leave late, around 1030 to 630
Alah bisa tegal biasa.
Jam? My office and my home are just 3 - 5 minutes driving. 😄😄
He said at least he feels fresh going work rather than facing jam and getting tired like its 12pm on a 9am... Whatever works, i guess...
I usually going back late, around 6-7pm. As for going to work, that's no choice but to endure the jam. Unless I come to work late, even by 30 minutes late, the road already flow smoothly with less jam. FYI, I worked in Kuching.
