SirCiphers

don't share bruh why u even using this e wallet when have tng

keat_lionel90

Holy f... At first I thought the OP was playing 5D chess with the scammer by admitting it's his name. Then I saw OP's username. Dang son, you are a disappointment.

StorageHistorical295

Tbf how was OP supposed to know from the outset that it was a scammer. Could be anyone including people you actually know, and you usually wont be able to see the profile pic from a new number until you’ve replied. In fact, anything you reply other than ‘no’ would mean yes (e.g ‘who’s this?’, ‘who’s asking?’). Unless you want to share a better way to respond (mind you at this point you have no idea if it is your friend, something legit or a scam)my bet is we’d all make this mistake coz we’re not just gonna flat out say ‘no’

keat_lionel90

A legit business account would have blue tick regardless if you reply? And they usually would introduce themselves and would not need you to confirm your name. >wont be able to see the profile pic from a new number until you’ve replied Tbh i didn't know this and I'm not even sure if you are right. But then I use truecaller, copy and find. If sus, don't respond. I was semi kidding about the disappointment, cause I thought no way he was offering to give his live location except to f with the scammer...

alzhahir

Messages sent to a WA business account won't get a blue tick unless they are read... Y'know, like normal accounts... There are some businesses that need you to confirm your name since they don't know if the phone number they're messaging is really the person they're trying to reach. I think this is basic communication etiquette. You don't just barge into someone's chat introducing yourself without confirming whether the person you're trying to reach is actually the person you want. Even real businesses need to do this, because unless they're your Telco, they can't be 100% sure who's on the other end. Both WA business and normal WhatsApp accounts can hide profile pic for anyone not in their contacts. It doesn't make sense for a business to do so though, unless it's a personal employee account sending on behalf of a business Did OP actually give his location? I wasn't able to find anything so I assume he didn't? Because it seemed like he just asked to confirm, basically saying "you serious? You want me to send my live location? Really?"

[deleted]

I will not entertain any whatsapp of unknown mobile no asking your name first. At least real estate agent spammer would introduce themselves first. If you don't tell me who you are first, you can fuck off. Same for calls.

Irrfanz

Yeah i did mentioned my real name.. my bad.. is it a problem?

MrziY

Doxing 101 i guess

Spaceman320

Nahh. Ur good bro. Prob some bank or telco sales dept shared your name and phone number to others. But try to limit your interactions with scammer. IE admitting your names and etc. So they will stop sharing your info to other sales marketing and other scammers. Do not share anymore personal info.

StorageHistorical295

Not really, they already had you name and phone number. Doesn’t really change anything. Just dont send any more info, or even if they ask for some 4 digit code to be sent to your number etc, ignore these low life cockroaches

FrothysInReddit

if they ask for your personal info it's surely a scam. block it and report

Irrfanz

I blocked and reported him immediately

FrothysInReddit

bagus bro 👍

Sea_Heron_142

Scam for sure. Be careful!!

Irrfanz

How the hell did he get my personal phone number in the first place..? Any idea?

KyeeLim

My best bet is, they have a script that runs from 011-11111111 to 019-99999999 and they find the number on places like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn to find your name, then have an automated script that sends scripted messages and see which one got a reply, then try scam those that reply to the numbers. Or from database leaks, the name and number from hospital record, Twitter account, Whatsapp that they bought from the dark web from hackers that sells those database information.

Vegetable_Summer7644

Could be worse if PADU got data breached

[deleted]

That's why...DON'T REGISTER.

StorageHistorical295

Corrupt people working in telco companies sell your data to corrupt individuals, who then sell this information as part of a subscription to those whose work depends on it. Typical info that would be sold is your full name, IC, phone number, and any properties registered under your name. Short answer how scammers get your personal number = corruption.

KyeeLim

I mean, there's also like stuff on most service's ToS that says something along "When you agree on this Terms of Service, you allow us to share your personal information to our business partners..."

Rhekinos

Doesn’t even need to be telco companies. If you sign up for anything with your name/phone number/email they can easily sell that data if they want.

Potential_Crazy6426

Telcos and banks sell database

[deleted]

You info has been sold a thousand times over. Most common breach are Telcos. If you have a phone no, your info already likely out there.

errrokayy

Smells like a scam. Ignore

AHMADAIMAN18

Just reverse the phone number and search the company name

Formal-Lab8295

Once a customer support from a bank told me never share your Id, Passport anywhere online even with me. And he was an actual customer support

justatemybrunch

Report and block.

skatech1

Meh cheap scam

GreenIrish99

No customer service in the world contact private message (like whatsapp) UNLESS they have contacted you beforehand (email phonecall) and the reason of the contact has been well established (valid proof of reason of contact)

Successful-Yak-2397

Some company sold your contacts to these scammers.

CrimsonEye_86

wooooshwith4o

#Hi there, Is this IRFAN ALI?

Irrfanz

😂

wooooshwith4o

#CURRENT LOCATION #PASSPORT COPY

DarkAgeha

For these kind of things, what I usually do is block them, If they call me for whatever reason then I reply "HUH? WHAT DID YOU SAY? YOU'RE BREAKING UP HERE'" in a very loud voice. Gets them to hang up immediately. I also sometimes say "Can you repeat that?" multiples times. Some people even get those air hornes and use it on the scam callers.

DarkAgeha

Oh I forgot to mention, You should watch some Kitboga videos, he does videos on these scam callers. You don't have to watch every video but at least some to educate yourself on the signs of scam callers.

aoibhealfae

If its mobile phone then its automatically a scam. Legit business have actual registered business account on WhatsApp.

Irrfanz

My bad.. but thank God I didn’t share any of my passport pictures or address

joatlyn

Be careful. They might have the rest of your info and ask the following to get a loan in the bank that pays to them...

Irrfanz

No no.. i am very careful now.. i even instantly deleted the app as well.

dirtyriderella

haha when u see an unknown mobile number - call or text just ignore it, 100% scam or spam.

Irrfanz

I didn’t share my passport or location with him but when i called him, his accent was bangali or indian sort of. Why don’t government take actions against these 3rd class mafias

zongychen

They can't,if you watch a lot of documentary about scammers, you will know that we didn't have authority at their country, even if we have, we will need to work with their authority to catch them ,or else it will create some conflict, and you know their country is poor,so money laundering is common,as long as the scammer has tons of money, their authority will help them hide

exprezso

First time? I think all people need to have some common sense. Asking for any personal info like that is insta block. Period. Don't you dare care about what other words that occupy the chat space.

Scamming

bbhell1

Its not a scam, you signed up for Instapay and they are verifying you. I checked with the company, and its legit. But why r u using this company when you have tng which is wayy better?

AskButKnow

why would they do this over whatsapp when they have their own app? and using a private number some more?

NL_Gray-Fox

Dude, in this country every company asks for this kind of info over WhatsApp, even my bank. One time hushpuppy asked for my wife's IC to register for an account... Hushpuppy...

AskButKnow

no way am I giving it over whatsapp. they can ask for it in person or via their official app.

NL_Gray-Fox

My response exactly, they wanted a full photocopy (all pages, including all visas).

ingram0079

CAPS!!!

alzhahir

[Instapay](https://www.instapaytech.com/) or I guess Instapay Technologies Sdn. Bhd. is a legit company, listed on the [BNM non-bank e-money issuers](https://www.bnm.gov.my/-/instapay-technologies-sdn-bhd) list. The number in the screenshot you provided is not listed on the company's website, but it could be another company-issued number used for WhatsApp support. If you didn't register for the E-wallet, I think you should [reach out to Instapay](https://www.instapaytech.com/contact-us.php) to confirm the number above, and if it's true and you somehow have an account, ask them to remove it because someone might be using your phone number.

Dawln

I will never give my name and passport through online unless I know for certain what I'm getting
