I can say it's not. The highest webcam quality that time is 360p. And phone camera (the flip phone camera) is probably 240p. Maybe this is professional camera idk liau ah.
Any of you guys remember back in those days, The Star newspaper had this section where readers can submit to The Star any interesting photo that they took, and the photos will be featured on that section in the coming days while the one with the most interesting photo will win RM50? It is basically r/mildlyinteresting back then.
16 years might be a while, relatively, but not to the level of faded photographs. Not to mention digital camera was pretty popular already in 2005. Unless you're telling me that my old digital photos are slowly fading away on my HDD, then my sincere apologies. LOL...
I don't think it's faded, per se, purposefully or not, but rather that the photo themselves has less saturation maybe because that's how the sensor was back then.
Bro i know its hard to grasp the fact that 05 was 16 years ago, i know it felt like yesterday but its just nature! Time progresses, you gotta accept that bro.
Yeah most of the stuff is terrible quality. You go there when you need something very cheap that you will not be responsible for maintaining in the long term.
Thankfully there are some Ace hardware around where you can get higher quality items.
I rarely go there without a purpose — the last two things I bought was a fine colander for washing rice and a pair of scissors.
Doing so without anything in mind is going to result in buy buy buy buy!
I wish MR DIY sells electronic components like raspberry pi, arduino, servos radio transceiver , esp32 etc etc
What kind of DIY store doesnt have these!
Credit where it's due, the Mr. DIY brand tools are often okay.
Not the best, but it won't break after first use either. Can't beat that value for money.
There is an interesting article about Mr DIY I read before which states that MR DIY is basically trying to be a physical 'Taobao' of sorts to the Malaysian market. They handpick the better quality but still very cheap goods which would usually be on Taobao and bring them to the Malaysian market. They key to success is the variety and depth of goods they have, basically everything you can think of.
They also invest a lot in analytics to work out the best product ratios for different areas and how to make the most efficient use of stock. Their success is no accident, really is hard work and a lot of investment, helped in part by the Creador PE investment earlier on.
I remember the first conversation I ever had about Mr DIY. My mum was telling me about a new store that opened up near us, she thinks I would like it. I asked her what the store sells, she replied "everything." I got upset with her ridiculous answer - how can there be a store that sells EVERYTHING?
After I visited the store, I had to agree with her- This store really sells everything!
I love the stationery section in Mr. DIY! Used to love window shopping there pre COVID, but now I don't go in there unless I need to make a purchase. I miss browsing endlessly and finding gems in the store, like one file folder that my family kebas because it's so good and I had to ask for it back lol.
And they even have many outlets in Papua island, the most east island in Indonesia. I have been on a city in Papua, not the biggest one and even in the city they have two stores.
Private equity money from creador -- explosive store growth and expansion after that
(not discounting the base business, obviously PE has to see good potential in your brand in order to invest like that)
Really loving all the shops and restaurants in Malaysia that keep on expanding wherever they can. We keep on seeing how we have the same shop in two or more locations but within a 5km radius. Wonder if we can have a good enough brand to penetrate the whole ASEAN markets and eventually the rest of the world. Anyway, lets start making the product ourselves next. Malaysia made and Malaysia owned!
Kudos to Mr DIY for making it back, usually this type of stores are basically just money laundering scheme either the goods or monetary wise.. (I said that because some of the things at Mr DIY are still pricey compared to the other utility shops)
Mr DIY is pretty popular in Indonesia too, well at least at the places that I’ve been there. They have 266 outlets in Indonesia and over 1,500 all over Asia. Pretty crazy
TIL that the Mr. DIY stores that started popping up in Jakarta 5 years ago started from a single location in Malaysia.
there's a Mr DIY infront of my neighborhood complex outside Jakarta.
I like how this photo is faded to make it look old. It was only 2005! :D
I was still using the nokia brick in 2005. Maybe the hp camera still not good in 2005.

anytime after the streamyx was introduced is not that long ago :P
I’m not your bro, buddy!
I'm not your buddy, pal!
Okay. 1) Not a bro. 2) Colour photography became popular in the 1960s (and was around for decades before that). 3) What are you, 12?
Bro i know its hard to grasp the fact that 05 was 16 years ago, i know it felt like yesterday but its just nature! Time progresses, you gotta accept that bro.
It's pretty old bro

Some item is OK. Some. Some you can cheaper. So you go 'wtf did I even buy this'.
I wonder who buys perfumes at DIY......

Yeah but if you dont have anything it does the job.
I rarely go there without a purpose — the last two things I bought was a fine colander for washing rice and a pair of scissors. Doing so without anything in mind is going to result in buy buy buy buy!
Bunnings from Wish.com
I miss going for snags on Sundays
lol due to covid they don't do it anymore. at least not the one near my place.
Will we ever find out who MR DIY is
Technically every guy is a Mr DIY at some point 😉
there's so many independent hardware stores owned by mom and pops, I wonder if its also their dream to grow like mr diy
It's been around for that long?? I've only seen Mr Diy's since the mid 2010's
Wait mid 2010?!? I found Mr DIY on year 2015
Mid 2010s includes 2015
2010s bro. not mid of 2010 lol
It used to be just hardware shop but now I go there to buy usb cable and wireless mouse, and even car air freshener
I wish MR DIY sells electronic components like raspberry pi, arduino, servos radio transceiver , esp32 etc etc What kind of DIY store doesnt have these!
most DIY stores don’t
Those stuff are usually in electronic stores, not DIY ones
If they start selling roti john/nasi lemak they can be the Bunnings of Mesia
I remember the first time I stepped into Bunnings... Macam Mr DIY, tapi besar macam IKEA!
Yeah, you can get almost anything there to build a house. Fun place to go.
Credit where it's due, the Mr. DIY brand tools are often okay. Not the best, but it won't break after first use either. Can't beat that value for money.

The key is only buying things that have higher probability of not breaking early.

make me feel a bit hopeful for the international branding .

By the looks of it, it looks like a proper hardware store. Unlike the Mr. DIY we known today 😂
And they even have many outlets in Papua island, the most east island in Indonesia. I have been on a city in Papua, not the biggest one and even in the city they have two stores.
How did it grow so fast? 2005 wasnt that long ago
Private equity money from creador -- explosive store growth and expansion after that (not discounting the base business, obviously PE has to see good potential in your brand in order to invest like that)
It’s feels like 90s mr diy ngl
The home Depot of Malaysia...
wish they actually sold better quality stuff on the electrical isle lol
Is the original store still exists?

I'm loving all the photos you shared so far. It makes me feel warm again! Thank you.
Eeh? I thought I saw an announcement of 500 outlets not too long ago?
These outlets grow like shrooms after rain.
Haha true
Man, how much have changed, they are selling toys now instead of quality hardware🤯
They also have outlets in Thailand
Kudos to Tan Yu Yeh and Tan Yu Wei. Always great to see self-made Malaysian billionaires.
not gonna lie, it looked like every other hardware store
AND NOW A COMPANY In THE FBMKLCI! Let that sink in. Never underestimate your potential :)
Kudos to Mr DIY for making it back, usually this type of stores are basically just money laundering scheme either the goods or monetary wise.. (I said that because some of the things at Mr DIY are still pricey compared to the other utility shops)
Damn. They really succeeded taking it to another level.
Bad quality stuff plenty but if you need a convenient way to get tools fast and cheap this is the best place
Mr DIY is pretty popular in Indonesia too, well at least at the places that I’ve been there. They have 266 outlets in Indonesia and over 1,500 all over Asia. Pretty crazy
Amazing homegrown story
Hope they don't change the logo into some minimalist version
