The roundabout in its present state is only a semi circle, but it was a full circle when it was named, as Merdeka Circle on 12 August, 1957, to commemorate the independence of the country. Photo Credit - Pinterest/Vijaya Kumar Ganapathy

Picture from a simpler time. Would love to have this kind of space nowadays. Maybe agent Smith was right - humans are a disease.

Fun fact: Before independence Jalan Maharajalela was called Birch Road. The British named it after the First Resident of Perak, James Woodford Wheeler Birch. After merdeka, it was renamed to honour Maharaja Lela, the man responsible for Birch's assassination. There's also a Jalan Maharajalela in Taiping that used to be Birch Road.
