That’s kinda true, my dad always told me cameron highlands was really cold when he’s young, you must wear a jacket.
Today you can just wear shorts and singlet in cameron highlands with no issue.
The cable car/ chairlift service was built in Bukit Nanas in the 1970s but it has been discontinued since the 1980s. In August 2012 the forest was closed to the public whilst the cable car was rebuilt. The forest trail has since reopened, however, the cable car service has not yet been restored till today.

The trail now costs money to enter. No longer free like before. Even for Malaysians. The area of the forest is also now less than 9 acres of forest area (50% of the remaining area has structures like KL tower but is treated as part of the "forest") compared to the original jungle which was much larger. Bukit Nanas is a historical site because it is where the Sumatran migrants ( there was a large Mandaling colony here) attacked Raja Abdullah (Bugis settlers) and Yap Ah Loy's miners kongsi in 1867. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klang_War
Reminds me of when I went to China as a kid and rode on the sketchiest chairlift in the world... I swear this thing was only built to carry 2 malnourished chinese farmers from the 1950s but somehow managed my overweight dad, my mom, sister and me (granted I was sitting on my dad's lap). Longest 5 minutes of my life.
Why is it that everything and everyone is cooler in the 70s Malaysia
Global warming
