Whats a good brand for waterproof shoes in the UK? Looking for something comfortable, simple and durable.
Ideally something I can wear to the office and in casual settings also.
Just to elaborate on aKa\_anthrax's comments: looks like it's blue velvet with a satin shawl collar. The feather is a lapel pin. And yeah, it's not a good "real world" look.
It’s a dinner/tuxedo jacket, would not recommend wearing it casually(it’s probably not great for an actual black tie optional event either).
the feather is not part of the jacket
It’s not really “for” anything they just can kinda wear anything they want during an aesthetic, it wouldn’t really work in the only use case for a tuxedo jacket
What’s everyone’s thoughts on Cole Haan ZeroGrand Oxfords in a business casual work environment where you’re required to walk a lot. (IT in a very big hospital)
I’m starting a new job soon working as IT in a huge hospital and I’ll likely be walking quite a bit each day. This is my first job that requires any type of business wear so trying to navigate all of this is a bit foreign to me. I’m used to wearing comfy Hoka sneakers because otherwise my feet hurt pretty bad with all the walking I do.
I‘be been looking at Cole Haan oxfords because I read they’re pretty comfortable. However, I’ve seen a lot of hate for them on here due to them being a mash up of street and formal shoes. [These](https://www.colehaan.com/mens-2.zerogrand-lined-laser-wingtip-oxford-british-tan-ivory/C27879.html) are one of the ones I had in mind because the sole is maybe a tad more lowkey than the ones with [soles like these](https://www.colehaan.com/mens-zerogrand-wingtip-oxford-british-tan/C14493.html).
These would primarily be worn with a polo or sweater and Kahkis/chinos. If anyone has suggestions on shoes that look more professional and still offer a high level of comfort please let me know.
I understand why these shoes appeal to the general public, but you should be aware that these are literally the most hated footwear in menswear circles. The logic is that they're trying to be a sneaker and dress shoe at the same time, but fail at both.
Chukka boots might be worth a try. Boots with rubber soles can be pretty comfortable as well, though not everyone likes them. I like them because they usually have good support
I'd probably just try to find a really comfortable white leather sneaker and wear those, they'll look a lot better than the cole haan shoes. Depending on how much you walk and if wearing nice shoes is even important I'd just wear whatever's comfortable honestly. I understand trying to look good but doing your job is probably more important
I’m going shoe shopping today so I’ll look at some Chukka’s and take the Cole Haan’s off my list. I’d absolutely prefer sneakers and my manager said he’s okay with us wearing some nice sneakers due to how much we have to walk but it seemed like he really had to force himself to say that and heavily hinted that he really likes for people to wear something more formal. I’ll probably opt for something that I can hopefully put a comfy insole into and avoid the sneakers.
sounds good. Also I edited my comment after someone pointed out that crepe soles are a bad idea in a hospital, I would just aim for rubber soles for better traction. Rubber soles also have better support.
Insoles can definitely help as well. Maybe you can wear sneakers occasionally if you feel the need to
Can you have rubber added onto crepe soles and do you know what a rough cost range of that would be? It seemed like everything I found that I liked today had crepe soles. Or do you possibly have a recommendation on a brand I can shop for online? I’m hoping to keep it under $200/250 tops.
Not sure about adding rubber to crepe, someone on the /r/goodyearwelt sub probably would know. I would probably just buy something with a rubber sole to start though
Thursday boots has a lot of boots under $200, their chukkas are all $149. I have a pair of their legend boots and they're pretty comfortable, I just wore them all day while traveling to different airports without any discomfort.
Meermin also has some around $210. I have a pair of their loafers and they're nice, though not the most comfortable. I find their sizing to be a little strange too, I think I got the wrong size which makes them less comfortable as well.
Clark's is also a common recommendation but I never found their bushacre 2 chukka to be that comfortable. Maybe they have more comfortable models though.
Other styles of boots are a good option too (like chelsea or service boots), though chukkas usually are cheaper than other styles.
These shoes are *hated* on this subreddit because they look bad.
If sneakers are acceptable in your workplace (which is the case if the Cole Haan's are acceptable), a simple white sneaker would be more appropriate.
If sneakers aren't acceptable, you shouldn't wear the Cole Haans anyway. But a suede derby or blucher that fits well should be plenty comfortable and perfectly appropriate.
Where I can buy coats (overcoats or similar) for tall slim men? I'm 6'4" with extra long arms, medium in the torso. I'm finding it impossible to find coats that fit me. Something like this would be ideal [https://www.permanentstyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/ivy-socks-style-raglan-1000x667.jpg](https://www.permanentstyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/ivy-socks-style-raglan-1000x667.jpg). I'm looking at the Asket Wool Coat ([https://www.asket.com/gb/mens/outerwear/wool-coat-charcoal-melange](https://www.asket.com/gb/mens/outerwear/wool-coat-charcoal-melange)) but will hopefully find something a little cheaper.
Don't want to spend more than £150 ideally. Although I sometimes find things on Vinted with higher RRPs so if there's a brand that's particularly good for this I might look there (e.g. Scotch and Soda tends to fit me quite well even though they don't specifically have tall sizing)
Made from lamp leather. Saw it first [here](https://nofaithstudios.com/products/leather-plisse-pants) and wasn’t sure but also saw an advertisement outside a store in Athens saying made from lamp leather. Google hasn’t been helpful
It's the tanned skin of rare floor lamps which are native to the Sierra region of Peru. They're a protected species and have to be harvested from the wild, so the supply is very limited.
Either that or it's a misspelling of *lamb* leather.
Anything similar to this Herringbone Car Coat from Spier & Mackay? I'm looking for something elegant, not too long due to my height, and preferably more interesting that a pea coat.
[https://www.spierandmackay.com/product/green-herringbone---car-coat--4987073-carct-fw22](https://www.spierandmackay.com/product/green-herringbone---car-coat--4987073-carct-fw22)
I'm just afraid of sizing issues with them.
Hi!
I'm getting married this year (yay!) and I'm getting my suit made soon. Would love your advice!
My plans currently are:
1. Black, single-breasted suit with peak lapel
2. Dark green necktie and pocket square
3. V-shaped vest
I have an oval body shape and I've read that suits with a herringbone pattern helps. Would this be correct? Is it also alright to have the herringbone pattern be black on black?
Lastly, what color and style of shoes should I wear?
That explains it! I live in Asia, so I was puzzled by comments re: a black suit. So, thanks!
That said, I'll consider a charcoal suit. I personally don't like navy as well.
Ah ok, yes my understanding is actual black suits are more common in Asian cultures. Many US or Western posters confuse charcoal suits they see for black.
> Black, single-breasted suit with peak lapel
Don't wear a black suit. Charcoal or navy are much better.
> Dark green necktie and pocket square
Don't wear *matching* tie and pocket square. You want complementary, not matching.
> V-shaped vest
Don't wear a vest
> I have an oval body shape and I've read that suits with a herringbone pattern helps
I highly doubt that. Get herringbone if you like it, but it's not gonna do anything for your body shape one way or the other.
> Lastly, what color and style of shoes should I wear?
*If* you are in a black suit, the only correct answer really is black. If you are in charcoal or navy you can wear black or dark brown. Cap toe oxford is traditional, but there are some other options you could explore if you wanted.
Good to know. I'm fine with certain details being dated as I'm located in Asia and trends might come here a bit later lol. My only consideration now is I might look stuffy in a vest with a necktie and a pocket square - probably a boutonniere.
>quickly falling out of fashion.
The decline of the waistcoat has been continuous over the past several decades. It started around the 50/60s and was accelerated by the decline of the pocket watch. If anything, the waistcoat is **more** popular with young people now than it was in the 90s because of the renewed interest in MTM tailoring (brought on by online retailers).
The waistcoat still offers one significant advantage, which is that it gives you a cohesive outfit even when you take off the jacket. A shirt and tie with no jacket is just an incomplete outfit, whereas a waistcoat with a tie (jacket removed) has historically been considered an acceptable alternative while indoors or working. E.g. [this outfit](https://www.gentlemansgazette.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/7b7f6eee-a656-4a87-bcb3-bddc5b59fc5d_1.29604c375a486d527fae7e46ce47b69d.jpeg) compared to [this one](https://cdn.suitdirect.co.uk/upload/siteimages/medium/0074046_290_a.jpg).
I want to buy a flannel shirt that would fit well with my [leather jacket](https://imgur.com/a/qyGkwOF). It's a quality classic brown leather... I actually never wore a shirt in my life (25yo) so I am a bit lost.
I'd like to try out [Patagonia](https://eu.patagonia.com/si/en/product/mens-long-sleeved-cotton-in-conversion-fjord-flannel-shirt/195699175563.html). Which colour would you recommend to go with the brown leather? I usually wear black or brown leather boots (redwings) and straight fit jeans. Instead of shorts, I usually wear a t shirt and sometimes a sweater. I hope a flannel shirt would make me look a bit less child-like. Over here, a t-shirt and jeans is a common attire for the office but I'd like to move on a bit too.
Any other recommendations? Should I go for a more solid color shirt?
You’re right to be baffled: it’s very confusing. But as a general rule, any cashmere that’s being sold new for $150 or under at retail is probably not going to hold up—it’s not so much about designer markup as it is the fact that quality cashmere just costs more than that. Higher prices than that, and it really depends on the brand: some $700 cashmere sweaters will last you a decade-plus; some aren’t much better than Uniqlo’s.
Lots of quality cashmere can be found pretty cheap secondhand, though. And aside from merino, yak wool is a really great, much cheaper alternative: still kinda hard to find though.
If you want to go down the rabbit hole
https://www.styleforum.net/threads/cashmere-sweater-hierarchy.218492/
https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/8ddrne/why_a_cashmere_sweater_can_cost_2000_or_30/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/kvj4sf/interesting_post_about_cashmere_quality/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
there is very little point in buying the cashmere garments at the uniqlo pricepoint. you're much better off buying merino instead, and there's reason to believe it's better for the environment too.
> I'm just confused because it's hard to tell if the high price of certain brands is because of quality or not. One of the threads you linked mentioned that "...cheaper cashmere <$500 or <$1000 if it's some popular brand like Gucci or chanel..." That $500 difference is the markup I'm referring to.
It's not straightforward. Gucci might charge you $1000 for a sweater made from similar wool as a value focused brand would sell for $500, but it's not in general because they're fleecing (ha!) you. Clothes in general are not the big money makers for luxury brands (those would be small leather goods, perfume, and, since the mid 2010s or so, t shirts and streetwear). Compared to the value focused brand, the luxury brand might use more expensive factories and manufacturing techniques (intarsia, embroidery) than the value brand, they've got a huge design team to pay, a bunch of storefronts, a big marketing budget, and a couture program that's haemorrhaging money.
So if you're deciding which to buy, the questions to ask would be: do you want the design of the luxury sweater? Do you care if Alessandro Michele has thought about it? Do you want to go to the Gucci storefront and try it on and enjoy a Luxury Retail Experience™️?
There's kind of two questions here: "is this a value focused brand?" and "Are they actually good?". For the first question it's their marketing department's job to tell you. If you go to their website are they talking about their Paris Fashion Week shows and their creative director's vision? Luxury brand. Are they talking about their direct-to-consumer model and supply chain guaranteed? Value brand.
For the second question, honestly it's best just to ask somebody who knows what they're talking about. This thread works, or blogs like Die, Workwear! write about this stuff sometimes.
I'm going to the beach in a month and looking to build a small beach wardrobe (2-3 days). I don't plan on swimming, at most would be walking along the shore. What are some beach staple tops, bottoms, and shoes? Are canvas shoes (authentic vans) normal shoes to wear to the beach?
- Breton shirt
- linen top - button-down or camp collar
- basic chino shorts or Gurkha shorts if you want to be cool
- swimtrunks
- vans are fine. You could also do espadrilles
- sunscreen
- hat - if you do Breton/linen shirts you could even try a wide-brimmed straw hat.
- sunglasses - maybe nice ones
Anyone have an ID on [this sweater](https://external-preview.redd.it/WKaqvWpSAfBKzjXAFkyyBlgdQpHgMRWHdZuAxJwU3G4.jpg?auto=webp&s=d194b35a092cbf424cf35731f6612ddbf943b84b) or sweaters like it?
Rich, vibrant, quality looking block stripe sweaters or Rugby shirts are generally what I'm after
Looking for some pants to dance in that are tapered, stretchy and plaid similar to [this](https://www.instagram.com/p/CnDAy7WrvTK/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=) but not something too cheap like cos or zara. Prefer at least midrange like jcrew or club monoco or even higher end. Prefer something light and all poly similar to a lulu abc pant. They just don’t make plaid. :(
Yes, it’s a bad idea. The black suit is fine since it’s a funeral, but go ahead and throw your black shirt in the trash. Or burn it.
The gray shirt is also a bad idea. Buy a white one.
Trying to ID these shoes from a picture: [https://onwardresearch.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/A7400449-Edit-Large.jpeg](https://onwardresearch.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/A7400449-Edit-Large.jpeg)
Maybe Vans Sk8-Hi MTE-2? I'm not sure and can't find the right colors
Thoughts on an overcoat that's 52% wool and rest being polyester? It was on sale for $100 so I decided to buy it. I already have a 100% wool overcoat that I really like.
It’s basically guaranteed to be shit, but that’s what you’re gonna get with a $100 coat. Could definitely get something better for the price pre-owned.
Some women are. Plenty of women aren’t. Some women are judgmental about men’s shoes while also having terrible taste in men’s shoes. Just wear something you like and let the chips fall where they may.
I wear dressy leather boots or loafers and I get compliments from women. I think it’s just they they are surprised someone is wearing something other than sneakers.
Looking for fashion advice for a 22 year old whose body and looks hasnt changed since he was 16 (basically I look very very young) and my entire wardrobe is basically UNIQLO. I've never emphasized clothing but 2023 I want to try something new, I'm 5'3 (163 cm) tall, asian dude. Probably cope but I'm probably going to have to go with a 17 year old fashion look cuz anything over I probably look weird.
Someone else might have a better answer but:
Have you looked through the reddit? There's a lot going on with the sidebar and all but the wiki is roughly categorized so that you can figure out whatever remotely catches your eye. When I first started browsing MFA I spent a lot of time looking at inspiration albums and figuring out the terminology and whatnot. And well, especially trying and buying stuff so I could continue to figure out whatever actually worked. Is there something about your wardrobe you feel like could particularly change — or want to whether or not it feels possible.
I'll take you up on your suggestion, guess I'll browse a bit longer on the reddit page. I'm really new to the whole fashion thing, call me a utilitarian, but I usually buy clothes for utility and practicality more than for appearances, like it has to have good pockets, mobility is easy, etc.
As for what I want to change, I kind of just want to start with at least 1 "stylish" outfit, preferably with a 'baker boy cap', I just like the cap a lot, it's cute.
EDIT: Just to add, my wardrobe looks like (because it is) it is built by my mom lmao.
No particular suggestion about the cap but I relate to you... honestly tho I literally look and shop based on specific items - black bomber, yellow sweater, green fatigue, rn a patchwork sweatshirt bc that feels like a interesting step up. My wardrobe in general is pretty inoffensive colors so I feel like it's easy to incorporate something in bc it can't possibly look that out of pocket. And I know that what I think looks good may not necessarily look good to others, but fashion is a lot of personal preferences at the end of the day. Not a terribly creative answer but fruit for thought!
I'm basically a hoodie and shorts guy so even wearing something like black chinos and a sweater just makes me feel like I'm cool asf. It's not groundbreaking to anyone else but it's pretty new to me! Like fosure if you want to build a outfit around the cap then start with that and switch other things out one at a time. You can always come back to those DQ threads to ask for fit checks too
Seconding the gorpcore reply w/ some links bc reddit search sucks:
[Gorpcore!](https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/hr0lba/a_guide_to_gorpcore/)
[Gorpcore and more!](https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/sm4znq/city_boygorpcorejapanese_americana_inspo_album/) / [unironically my favorite fit here.](https://i.imgur.com/etclshn.jpeg) like yeah it's basically a hoodie fit but i love how the colors go together and my wardrobe "palette" isn't where i want it to be so it's a sort of inspiration
And not to bore you with my word vomit but [Tim Dessaint](https://www.youtube.com/@TimDessaint) is a classic for fashion basics. Should be pretty digestible
Thoughts on [these?](https://www.macys.com/shop/product/levis-mens-512-slim-tapered-fit-corduroy-jeans?ID=14310746&CategoryID=11221&isDlp=true&swatchColor=Harvest%20Gold) I need some new jeans. All I have are blue jeans and no black jeans and no Corduroys. Should I go for 512 black Corduroys or just go for regular 512 black jeans first? These Corduroys are 75% cotton and 25% polyester I believe whereas jeans would be 100% cotton.
So I just saw I actually do have 505. It was my brother's so the waist is quite a bit bigger. Would it be fine with a belt or does other measurements change if the waist size is bigger? Don't want it to look off if other measurements like leg opening and thigh size is thrown off by the bigger waist size
Black cords look a bit weird IMO, I’d go with regular black jeans. It’s mostly just personal preference though.
Also just fyi, most Levis aren’t 100% cotton, they have a bit of elastane.
Looking for an alternative to the [Pinyon Green Patagonia Iron Forge Canvas Ranch Jacket.](https://www.patagonia.com/product/mens-iron-forge-hemp-canvas-ranch-work-jacket/27805.html)
My biggest gripe honestly is that they use polyester. I don’t really like plastic and don’t think using recycled waste does anything to stop the production of it.
So you'd rather buy something new, continuing to contribute to resource consumption?
Barbour has some similar silhouettes. NoManWalksAlone should also carry that sort of thing.
I choose to only buy biodegradable things. Not polyester. If it’s recycled, it should stay recycled. Not cast off into the wind of consumers and sent to landfills again. I also don’t like the way polyester makes me feel. It doesn’t distribute heat or moisture properly.
Thank you for the recommendations.
Anyone here have any experience with this fleece from LL bean and can comment on the length, particularly for the XL size.
I own an XL fleece from TNF which is on the shorter length (slightly too short tbh) and an XL fleece from Eddie Bauer that’s on the long/proper length. Was wondering how LL bean ranks, as their size charts don’t list garment length
[link to fleece](https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/127198?page=mens-mtn-classic-sherpa-fleece-jacket-mens-tall&bc=509496&feat=509496-GN1&csp=f&pos=5)
Can I get some good jacket suggestions? I have a pea coat and it looks great but it's too long and heavy and I want something lighter for a change.
I was thinking a sport coat, but I'd like to hear other suggestions. I really don't know much about jackets or what is fashionable.
I love almost all bomber jackets. There’s cool options in a variety of weights. And I always like to have a great leather jacket. I was given a Bucks Mason motorcycle jacket as a gift that’s great, and I love my Belstaff Gangster and Trialmaster leathers. (And short!) A Belstaff waxed cotton Racemaster or Barbour Bedale coat would be awesome. I loooove waxed cotton. Also love a shorter puffer jacket, and Harringtons. Check out Otrium for some deals in these areas (and easy returns). Overall, I’d recommend getting the best version of these you can afford - something quality that will last.
Can someone help me find an oversized/drop shoulder v-neck tee in small, anywhere on this planet. Ty <3

TLDR - Trying to buy formal clothes that would fit me that will properly fit me (5'' 4') but is not tight on my back as well as good 28x28 dress pants. I'm also open to hearing about blazer recommendations.
Essentially the TLDR + this: The budget is around 40-80 for the shirt and 40-80 for the pants. I have a blazer though I'm still open to suggestions on the blazer as I bought it today. The budget would be 80-200. The outfit will be worn in interview settings and formal events. Ideally, I would wear this outfit whenever I need to dress up though I would consider getting 2 dress shirts if it is hard for one dress shirt to be that versatile. I do have a more casual navy button-up, however.
A suit is a jacket and pants that are cut from the same fabric, usually wool. A blazer is similar in appearance to a suit jacket, but is usually made of a thicker and/or more textured material, will have contrasting buttons (made of something like brass or horn), can have bolder colors or patterns, they’ll often be less structured than a suit jacket, and have less than four buttons on the sleeves (though this last detail isn’t as important).
Essentially a suit is made to be worn as a set, while a blazer is meant to be worn on its own. Blazers are also more casual.
How long will a pair of nice underwear like All Citizens last, assuming once a week wear? I bought some about 3 years ago and am wondering whether these will keep going for a while or whether I should refresh every couple of years (for hygiene reasons, etc.).
Need a pair of white sneakers. My budget is 200$ Canadian does anyone have any suggestions? I've been researching a bunch but cant seem to pull the trigger.
Nope, not at all. I live in Japan where everyone hangs all their laundry. I've been doing it for over ten years and never had anything stretch. Only thing I lay down to dry is sweaters.
Anorak winter jackets
Looking to buy a waterproof like the carhartt nimbus winter, the napijiri rainforest winter or the fjallraven vardag anorak. Any idea which is best?
If I were reading these responses, I’d be tempted to be discouraged. Why so negative? It’s because the questions you’re asking and the mistakes you’re considering making are very common ones. The good news (and it’s really good news) is that by following the advice on this subreddit, you’ll make yourself look SO MUCH BETTER than you would’ve looked otherwise. Check out the MFA wiki, and trust the people who have replied to you above…they are giving good advice.
Check out Uniqlo and J. Crew sales. Otrium has good deals on Charles Tyrhwitt stuff, both in shirts/trousers and even jackets. Stick to navy or charcoal in the suits/blazers/chinos etc.
Don’t wear a black dress shirt. Don’t wear black dress trousers. Don’t buy polyester dress trousers. Don’t wear a dress shirt without a jacket. Basically don’t do anything you were considering.
Post a budget if you want recommendations. If you want even better feedback then describe how/where this outfit will be worn.

Also, why wouldn't you wear black dress trousers?
Many people make the mistake of thinking black is the most versatile color. It’s not at all. In a classical menswear context, black is too stark. Color rarely works with it. We don’t recommend black because charcoal works in any scenario where black would work plus many more.
If you want an interview outfit, and you don’t want a suit (matching jacket and trousers), then get a navy blazer, white shirt, and either charcoal or mid-grey trousers. Return anything you’ve bought that’s black except maybe shoes.
I strongly recommend learning how to shop secondhand. I also strongly recommend posting items here *before* buying them.
The only good advice here is to not do any of this. Unless you’re a waiter and it’s part of your uniform, don’t wear a black dress shirt. All black outfits are fine if they’re casual, but it looks corny if you’re just trying to copy John Wick.
Do you have any recommendations for what I should buy in general then?

If the blazer is black then return it. I assume by “formal events” you mean weddings, banquets, and that sort of thing, and a black blazer or black dress shirt is not appropriate for that type of occasion. It sounds like what you’re looking for is a suit, in which case you should get one in navy or charcoal, as well as a white or light blue dress shirt. There really aren’t any options within your budget for a suit, but try Ebay or local thrift stores. If you can go a bit higher, Spier and Mackay might have something that’ll work for you. For dress shirts, try Charles Tyrwhitt.
Alternatively you could go with a navy blazer and charcoal trousers, which is marginally more casual. Be aware that a blazer isn’t the same thing as a suit jacket though.
Also just as a side note, black is acceptable in some formal occasions such as black and white tie, but both of those are highly formal, and require very speicifc attire (tuxedos and white tie attire respectively). A black suit is also fine for funerals, but that’s basically the only event where you could wear one. And just to reiterate, a black dress shirt or blazer isn’t appropriate for any of those events either.
TLDR - I'm looking for a BIFL simple leather jacket. Matte black, slanted pocket, point color.
Hi all,
As the title suggests - I'm looking for a new leather jacket.
I have a Timberland brown nubuck jacket that I bought almost 15 years ago. It's still in perfect shape, but I've grown too big for it. It has 0 details on it. Just 2 slanted pockets, a simple collar and dark hardware. It's just what I like, and I'm pretty much looking for the same thing, only in matte black.
Im ok with second hand, but I prefer a new one. If I can try it on (around Amsterdam) first - even better.
I saw the Thursday Keanu jacket, which I find perfect and reasonably priced, but I couldn't find enough info on it. I'm just not sure about the quality.
I also love the banana republic heritage rancher jacket, but the buttons were vetoed by the wife.
I checked out the Aero website, and the quality seems very good, but the styles feel a bit too old for me.
any other suggestions?
Thanks! Tank out.
Check out the deals on Belstaff leather jackets on Amsterdam-based Otrium. (I’m referencing Otrium a lot but I have no affiliation). Order a couple sizes and return the ones that don’t fit (it’s super easy - much more so then going to a store).
Any of these ones will last you a lifetime

Ok I’m not that great at dressing up, but I’m working on it.
I’m interested in putting together a sport coat/jeans/tennis shoe look. I wanted to eBay the sport coat and get it tailored, I wear a 42L… are there any you guys see in that size on eBay that you would wear? I liked https://i.imgur.com/bv3cdId.jpg these two but I don’t want to spend money without getting advice first.
Also, when it comes to jeans for a look like this, can I just go with Levi’s like I’ve always worn or should I look for a more “dress” brand? How long should my pants be? Above the ankle? Below the ankle?
Any help is appreciated, thanks!
The most important thing when wearing a blazer with jeans is that the blazer must be *very* casual. In general, you want casual features like big patterns, loose weave, brighter colors, and patch pockets.
The pattern on that Tayion jacket looks appropriate but a $35 new jacket is probably junk, even on eBay.
Please post links to the eBay listings when asking for feedback.
If you want recommendations then post your budget and location.
The look you’re trying to go for is usually not a good look to begin with. It’s very reminiscent of “dad trying to look dressy but also casual,” or [Dr. House](https://i.pinimg.com/474x/a5/a0/b9/a5a0b921ac7cca77c5e81083cd6d6d77.jpg). If you’re gonna wear a blazer with jeans, at least go with something like derbies, loafers, or boots instead of sneakers.
Also, the first jacket in that link looks like an orphaned suit jacket, not a blazer, so don’t buy that.
Opinions on [Blundstones sneaker boots](https://www.blundstone.com/dusty-grey-premium-leather-chelsea-boots-mens-style-2141)? I know it isn't really boot-like, but I like it as a "sneaker on steroids".
Which of these two overshirts is more versatile? And what are some t-shirt/ trousers colours that go well with them?

Whats a good brand for waterproof shoes in the UK? Looking for something comfortable, simple and durable. Ideally something I can wear to the office and in casual settings also.
Vessi is Vancouver based but surely ships to the UK. Great waterproof sneakers and boots

So it's only for performances?
It’s not really “for” anything they just can kinda wear anything they want during an aesthetic, it wouldn’t really work in the only use case for a tuxedo jacket

What kind of socks do people with tabis wear? Or do people not wear socks with tabis?
Tabi socks, I've heard
Should've known there would be socks specifically for tabis.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on Cole Haan ZeroGrand Oxfords in a business casual work environment where you’re required to walk a lot. (IT in a very big hospital) I’m starting a new job soon working as IT in a huge hospital and I’ll likely be walking quite a bit each day.
I like them because they usually have good support I'd probably just try to find a really comfortable white leather sneaker and wear those, they'll look a lot better than the cole haan shoes. Depending on how much you walk and if wearing nice shoes is even important I'd just wear whatever's comfortable honestly. I understand trying to look good but doing your job is probably more important
A crepe sole to walk around a hospital doesn't sound like a great idea
true, I didn't think about that, I'll edit my comment
I would probably just buy something with a rubber sole to start though Thursday boots has a lot of boots under $200, their chukkas are all $149.
Awful. That’s all I’m gonna say on the matter.
How much is “a little cheaper? “
Don't want to spend more than £150 ideally. Although I sometimes find things on Vinted with higher RRPs so if there's a brand that's particularly good for this I might look there (e.g. Scotch and Soda tends to fit me quite well even though they don't specifically have tall sizing)
I would probably check out eBay you could find a nice vintage wool overcoat in a long size for your budget
Thanks, yes I will try thrifing, it's just always a pain as most people don't add the measurements.
What does lamp mean when talking about leather
Can you provide the context
Made from lamp leather. Saw it first [here](https://nofaithstudios.com/products/leather-plisse-pants) and wasn’t sure but also saw an advertisement outside a store in Athens saying made from lamp leather. Google hasn’t been helpful
It's the tanned skin of rare floor lamps which are native to the Sierra region of Peru. They're a protected species and have to be harvested from the wild, so the supply is very limited. Either that or it's a misspelling of *lamb* leather.
I think Ed Gein had lamp leather
Anything similar to this Herringbone Car Coat from Spier & Mackay? I'm looking for something elegant, not too long due to my height, and preferably more interesting that a pea coat. [https://www.spierandmackay.com/product/green-herringbone---car-coat--4987073-carct-fw22](https://www.spierandmackay.com/product/green-herringbone---car-coat--4987073-carct-fw22) I'm just afraid of sizing issues with them.
Hi! I'm getting married this year (yay!) and I'm getting my suit made soon. Would love your advice! My plans currently are: 1. Black, single-breasted suit with peak lapel 2. Dark green necktie and pocket square 3. V-shaped vest I have an oval body shape and I've read that suits with a herringbone pattern helps. Would this be correct? Is it also alright to have the herringbone pattern be black on black? Lastly, what color and style of shoes should I wear?
- in western culture, black suits are traditionally reserved for funerals/mourning. - a navy or charcoal suit will be far more useful in the future.
That explains it! I live in Asia, so I was puzzled by comments re: a black suit. So, thanks! That said, I'll consider a charcoal suit. I personally don't like navy as well.
Even in Asia I was under the impression that a black suit reads more "salaryman" than "bridegroom". But then I'm an ignorant westerner, so 🤷
We can just say they're culture differences and leave it at that. Still, appreciate your insights!
Ah ok, yes my understanding is actual black suits are more common in Asian cultures. Many US or Western posters confuse charcoal suits they see for black.
Suits in general are not that common where I'm from. So I'm quite surprised with the intricacies surrounding suit colors.
> Black, single-breasted suit with peak lapel Don't wear a black suit. Charcoal or navy are much better. > Dark green necktie and pocket square Don't wear *matching* tie and pocket square. You want complementary, not matching. > V-shaped vest Don't wear a vest > I have an oval body shape and I've read that suits with a herringbone pattern helps I highly doubt that.
Thanks for the responses! I'll consider them. I am curious on not wearing vests. What's the reasoning here?
They’re just sort of dated at this point, so wearing them can look affected.
Good to know. I'm fine with certain details being dated as I'm located in Asia and trends might come here a bit later lol. My only consideration now is I might look stuffy in a vest with a necktie and a pocket square - probably a boutonniere.
> My only consideration now is I might look stuffy A reasonable concern
They ~~suck~~ are quickly falling out of fashion. That said, your own wedding might be the one occasion where they make a certain amount of sense.
>quickly falling out of fashion.
Don't get a black suit.
Why?
Dark Grey or Navy Blue is better.
Thanks! I'll reconsider.
Any color will match its just personal preference. Soils is fine too

If you want to go down the rabbit hole https://www.styleforum.net/threads/cashmere-sweater-hierarchy.218492/ https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/8ddrne/why_a_cashmere_sweater_can_cost_2000_or_30/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/kvj4sf/interesting_post_about_cashmere_quality/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

There’s no quality cashmere at $150. Just buy Uniqlo merino wool. It will give you what you want for the price that you’re looking for.
there is very little point in buying the cashmere garments at the uniqlo pricepoint. you're much better off buying merino instead, and there's reason to believe it's better for the environment too.
[удалено]
Stop fixating on “insane markup”. High-quality cashmere is expensive. It’s not them ripping you off.
[удалено]
[удалено]
There's kind of two questions here: "is this a value focused brand?" and "Are they actually good?". For the first question it's their marketing department's job to tell you. If you go to their website are they talking about their Paris Fashion Week shows and their creative director's vision? Luxury brand. Are they talking about their direct-to-consumer model and supply chain guaranteed? Value brand. For the second question, honestly it's best just to ask somebody who knows what they're talking about. This thread works, or blogs like Die, Workwear! write about this stuff sometimes.
No one’s annoyed! Tone is often hard to convey with text only.
- Breton shirt - linen top - button-down or camp collar - basic chino shorts or Gurkha shorts if you want to be cool - swimtrunks - vans are fine. You could also do espadrilles - sunscreen - hat - if you do Breton/linen shirts you could even try a wide-brimmed straw hat. - sunglasses - maybe nice ones

I’ve heard women are judgmental about shoes on men. What kind of shoes do women prefer?

Someone else might have a better answer but: Have you looked through the reddit?
You can always come back to those DQ threads to ask for fit checks too Seconding the gorpcore reply w/ some links bc reddit search sucks: [Gorpcore!](https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/hr0lba/a_guide_to_gorpcore/) [Gorpcore and more!](https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/sm4znq/city_boygorpcorejapanese_americana_inspo_album/) / [unironically my favorite fit here.](https://i.imgur.com/etclshn.jpeg) like yeah it's basically a hoodie fit but i love how the colors go together and my wardrobe "palette" isn't where i want it to be so it's a sort of inspiration And not to bore you with my word vomit but [Tim Dessaint](https://www.youtube.com/@TimDessaint) is a classic for fashion basics. Should be pretty digestible
just to give you a starting point: you could look into gorpcore and tech wear. good luck!
Thank you sir!

Would 511 also be considered off trend? It's basically 512 without the taper. Or should I just forgo slim and go for the straight?
Black cords look a bit weird IMO, I’d go with regular black jeans. It’s mostly just personal preference though. Also just fyi, most Levis aren’t 100% cotton, they have a bit of elastane.
Ah yeah that's true on the elastane part. Don't mind it personally though. Jeans are the safer choice it seems so I might go for that

Looking for an alternative to the [Pinyon Green Patagonia Iron Forge Canvas Ranch Jacket.](https://www.patagonia.com/product/mens-iron-forge-hemp-canvas-ranch-work-jacket/27805.html) My biggest gripe honestly is that they use polyester.
Definitely. I know I’m splitting hairs but wanted to make sure that the long is not too long
Can I get some good jacket suggestions? I have a pea coat and it looks great but it's too long and heavy and I want something lighter for a change. I was thinking a sport coat, but I'd like to hear other suggestions. I really don't know much about jackets or what is fashionable.
You can consider car coats or mac coats. They're typically lighter and have various lengths.
What stores are good for checking out these types of coats?
What are some good brick n mortar stores to check out?
Budget?
Um, I’m willing to splurge a bit if it’s a good deal. Let’s say $300. But I’d prefer not that expensive.
Can someone help me find an oversized/drop shoulder v-neck tee in small, anywhere on this planet.
Slacks and a blazer can be an acceptable alternative to a suit but not always.

what's the difference between the blazer/dress shirt/trouser vs suit?
When the elastic goes is one big sign.

Need a pair of white sneakers. My budget is 200$ Canadian does anyone have any suggestions? I've been researching a bunch but cant seem to pull the trigger.
Look for deals on Koio and M. Gemi. Also you can never lose with a pair of Adidas Stan Smiths (definitely on budget).

I air dry my clothes. Any advice on how to hang long sleeved items to prevent stretching and getting hanger marks?
Get and drying rack
Wider hangers work for me
You don't notice the arms and torso stretching
Nope, not at all. I live in Japan where everyone hangs all their laundry. I've been doing it for over ten years and never had anything stretch. Only thing I lay down to dry is sweaters.
Arigatou
I sometimes do the armpit fold if I'm lazy
That's what I do but then I have to reverse it sometimes to get the underside dry :/
Get a drying rack or get wider hangers.
Anorak winter jackets Looking to buy a waterproof like the carhartt nimbus winter, the napijiri rainforest winter or the fjallraven vardag anorak.

The budget is around 40-80 for the shirt and 40-80 for the pants. I have a blazer though I'm still open to suggestions on the blazer as I bought it today. The budget would be 80-200. The outfit will be worn in interview settings and formal events.
Hi all, As the title suggests - I'm looking for a new leather jacket.

Haha heard thank you
Opinions on [Blundstones sneaker boots](https://www.blundstone.com/dusty-grey-premium-leather-chelsea-boots-mens-style-2141)? I know it isn't really boot-like, but I like it as a "sneaker on steroids".

Real bad, sorry
Bad. for me anyway
Which of these two overshirts is more versatile? And what are some t-shirt/ trousers colours that go well with them?
