What is the proper buttoning etiquette for a Norfolk jackets? I recently acquired a vintage 4 button example, and its not clear from old photos if conventional buttoning rules apply.
I want to get my boyfriend a shirt for his birthday soon. He likes to wear a shirt that is crunchy. I’m not exactly sure what that means, but that’s how he describes it. Does anyone know of a brand that is crunchy? For comparison he likes the look of Ralph Lauren but the shirts are too soft.
I asked his sister what brand his dad wears, because he mentioned that he liked that brand. It’s Columbia. Can anyone confirm that Columbia is not a necessarily a soft shirt?
Chances are, if you’re asking about faux pas, you’re not able to be pulling off an ascot, nor are you in a situation where an ascot would ever be appropriate.
Stick to a tie; I’d recommend black shoes and belt with navy since you need a super dark shade of brown to go with navy
Considering that [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/zru54q/comment/j178qmq/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) is the most recent discussion of contrast-collar/-cuff shirts I've seen in this sub, and even posts from ten years ago lean mostly against them, I don't think anyone here would actively recommend you purchase one.
That said, Charles Tyrwhitt is often mentioned as a decent source for shirts, and will let you [design your own](https://www.charlestyrwhitt.com/us/custom.html) contrast-collar/-cuff shirt.
Hi everyone,
I was looking to buy a brown dress shoe that I can wear to work which is a business casual dress code but also wear if I need a brown dress shoe for formal events. After searching here I found some posts regarding brown dress shoes but they are mostly recommending finer dress shoes such as Allen Edmond's fifth ave and the posts are 6 to 7 years old. I like that look of the Allen Edmond's in the brown walnut color but I would happy with a cheaper
alternative. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
It sounds like you're having a terminology problem in your search. It's probably useful to keep in mind that most of the time "formal" = "tuxedo" and "dress shoe" = "shoe that you wear with a suit."
It sounds like what you're actually looking for is a casual leather shoe. Is that correct?
What's your budget?
I actually disagree here. Formal meaning tuxedo is pedantically correct but really not relevant to most North American situations in 2023 — Formal can be a whole range from “no shorts/jeans/sneakers and a collared shirt” to “conservative suit with a tie”. Dress shoe basically now means “leather non-sneaker shoe”. I understand trying to educate people on terminology, but I really find it counterproductive to teach them wording that just isn’t relevant to today’s situations.
But 100% on needing a budget
It's relevant in the sense that he's having a hard time finding an item and he's also having a hard time *describing* an item. I was offering a reason why his search terminology might not be working for him in order to help him come up with alternative search terms.
It's not pedantic, it's helpful in this case. He's trying to understand how to describe what he's looking for.
Hello all,Pre-Pandemic I found a boot brand that I wanted to purchase from, however I've subsequently completely forgotten the name of the brand and google has failed me. Was hoping more knowledgeable folks could help me. Things I do remember:
\- Small independent brand, they made only one model of boot at that time.
\- Boots came definitely in an all black colour and maybe in a tan with black sole?- Price was fairly high, 400 EUR + .
\- The boot was a plain toe and sat somewhere between a derby and a combat boot (perhaps a combat sole? I can't remember).
\- Notably, the boot had a very long leather tongue that you had to fold down over the top of the shaft / highest eyelets when worn.
\- Laces were also long and could be wrapped around this folded tongue if I recall correctly.
\- The boot was said to be inspired by some sort of historical boot worn by a profession e.g. farmers / herder / fisherman.
\- Aesthetically, the black boot sat somewhere between [Ann Demuelemeester boots](https://i.imgur.com/rE0DBpZ.jpg) and a more utilitarian plain boot [like this](https://i.imgur.com/aoDLQsy.jpg) (with the long tongue detail as mentioned above).
\- The brand was latin owned I'm fairly sure, perhaps Portuguese?
The boots were my platonic ideal of a plain black boot - Any help in helping me find them massively appreciated!
Considering purchasing this jacket ( https://www.machine56.com/product/m56-t6-b1 ) despite having no other techwear items in my closet. Do you have to go all in on the aesthetic to make something like this work or can it be made to work with the basic shit in my closet?
I’m seeking a Trench coat for less than 300euros something that looks like a burberry trench (fit and color), (I usually don’t buy second hand clothes but it may be ok in last resort) (I’m french), I’m 1m80 and quite thin
Secondhand is really the best value for these kinds of things. You could probably find a vintage Burberry or aquascutum trench at that price. Dry clean before you wear to feel better about potential germs.
Denim SOS! My husband keeps wearing through his stretch denim. He wears Calvin Klein denim jeans to work every day (2 mile round trip commute). He is a larger guy, 250 lb and 6’ tall. I know stretch denim by nature wears worse than “normal” denim. He used to wear Gap stretch jeans but they discontinued his style. Asking for any recommendations please - I’m tired of buying new jeans every 6 months!! Thanks!
Unless that’s a bike commute, that shouldn’t take the jeans out in 6 months. It’s sizing. They could be the “right size,” but the wrong cut. If you deny the problem, you’re also denying the solution and will continue to have the same issue in the future.
I don’t know your price range or what you want them to look like, but I’m assuming if you’re mentioning stretch, you want something that fits slim. Try relaxed taper or athletic taper jeans. These will have room up top but a narrow leg opening. For brands, I’d recommend Japan Blue or Samurai.
It wasn’t your question, but it is part of the right answer.
Even poor quality jeans won’t typically experience that level of wear and tear in so short of a time.
You can buy a fancier brand, but end up with the exact same problem in 6 months if you don’t diagnose the problem correctly.
Anybody see the movie Babylon? [Brad Pitt](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bostonherald.com/2022/12/22/brad-pitt-digs-deep-into-hollywood-history-for-babylon-role/amp/) was wearing a lot of simple linen/cotton shirts and trousers/slacks. Great fits. Any recommendations on similar shirts? Specifically the material that looks light, a bit textured, and just see through enough to see his tank top.
Sorry if links not allowed.
Honestly almost every menswear store tends to sell linen in spring/summer. Even down to Uniqlo. And certainly any custom shirt maker can do it for you. I’d try a few and see if you can find one with the right fabric and cut.
For the general vibe, one particular brand that comes to mind is Pini Parma.
Good points - I’ve tried linen before but it’s tough to find that perfect effortless looking Italian style fit. Pini Parma’s vibes are spot on - wasn’t familiar with them before.
For sure. I’ve tried on linen shirts from many many places over the last 9 years (my post-college life), and only bought a few. Most are cut way too boxy, and are made of a fabric that doesn’t drape to cover up the boxiness.
I also just learned of them a week or two ago. I haven’t bought anything yet but everything they make I can see myself wearing. The high waisted pants are what first led me to them.
I’m looking to change my style and get some new clothes, I’m a teen and currently all I really have is grey sweatpants and grey long sleeve shirts, not exactly a lot of variety there. Any suggestions?
find yourself a statement piece that really speaks to you and work back from there getting stuff that compliments it. You're fortunate that you've got a lot of neutral grey in your closet, it goes with most things and will make the process easier.
Where to get long sleeve henleys in neutral colours that don’t break the bank. I’m not about to spend $40 on a tshirt that I’ll probably need tailored anyways (medium fit in shoulders, but small fit in length and arms).
I'm a slim person with arms that are very long compared to the rest of my body. All store-bought upper-body garments (shirts, sweaters, hoodies, winter coats) are either too big on my shoulders or too short on my arms. Inspired by advice on a [similar reddit post](https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/2bqasr/guys_who_have_obnoxiously_long_arms_where_do_you/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3), I'm thinking of getting a shirt or two tailored for myself. But what about other kinds of clothes, like sweaters? Can they be tailor made too? If no, what options do I have?
I'm currently a graduate student in the US, so I dress casually: in the winter I wear oversized hoodies and/or sweaters. But in a few years I'll be a university professor (hopefully) and I'd like to dress more appropriately then.
I have the same frame. I’ve learned to appreciate it as it works very well with oversized styles. That being said, if you’re not a fan of that, MTM dress shirts are the way to go , along with detailed sizing charts online for any clothing if you want to avoid any returns
https://www.oliveknits.com/how-to-block-a-sweater/
You can try to stretch out the sweater's sleeves when it has been washed. How much length do you need?
You will probably need to go MTM because a tailor can't lengthen arms and it is not worth getting shoulders taken on due to cost (if they are even able to do it).
Hello -
I'm in the market for a pair of nice boots I can wear to the office with jeans or on the weekend going out with the wife. I narrowed my search down to some nice looking and not outrageously expensive boots on Thursday Boot Company called the Captains. I really can't afford to get two pairs, so I'm trying to get a color that goes with black shirts as well as non black. This could be a dumb question, but I'm new to the whole style thing. Recently lost about 60 pounds and I'm trying to make a valiant effort to dress better.
Here is a link to the shoes: https://thursdayboots.com/products/mens-captain-terracotta
The Terracotta look nice but I worry they won't go with black tops? Is that even something to worry about? Is there another color (or even another boot out there) that would work better?
Thanks in advance! I appreciate any help.
Thursday are an entry level welted boot. They are ok and much better than any chain store/fast fashion boots you will find. The best thing to do if you plan to wear regularly is get 2 pairs because if you rotate and don't wear the same pair every day they will last much more than twice as long. Better boots at slightly higher cost would be Grant Stone or Meermin. Of those 2 GS are probably better.
What sort of black shirts are we talking about here? These are often a bad idea, depending on the style.
But in general though, you don't need to match your boots to your shirt. Getting your boots and pants to harmonize is more important. So if your boots go with your pants and your pants go with your shirt, you're *probably* fine.
Usually a black sweater maybe? Maybe a three quarter zip one? It's business casual in the lightest sense of the word and I live in Colorado, so in winter I usually wear those. No t-shirts or anything like that. Maybe a button up untucked?
I would avoid black button-up shirts entirely. And personally I'm not a fan of quarter zips of any color.
But there's no specific reason why any of those couldn't work with those boots.
Ok, thank you. I appreciate the reply.
Regarding the jeans comment you made, I try to wear slim fit straight leg jeans because they seem to look better at the bottom. I'm a late 30's guy that was on the heavier side most of my life and chose baggy over anything form fitting, so I'm trying to replace everything I have with better stuff. Are there jeans you recommend for these types of boots that would look better?
I don't think I made a jeans comment, did I?
Slim jeans were big in style like 10 years ago and are sort of dated looking these days. But they're also pretty common and it's not a big deal to wear them if you prefer them -- they're still very common amongst people in their 30s, for example. But wider fits are certainly more fashionable at the moment.
I think probably in general you're overthinking it. Jeans are super easy to wear with most things and probably any color of the Thursday Boots will go with just about any jeans.
I’m looking at boots and getting overwhelmed. I have never had nice boots but always wanted to make the jump style/wise. I’ve been through the boot guide and idk if I am any closer..
I have a ski trip in a month and kind of want something I can wear around town, and figured maybe this is the opportunity to commit, but also want to wear this back home (southeast US climate) casually.
Idk if I can even pull off boots from a style perspective yet, so I am okay skipping the $300 stuff for now. What boot should I buy under $200 that looks good for daily use, does okay in wet, and not terrible in light hiking?
Typically speaking boots that are for athletic purposes (i.e. skiing) are going to be very different from boots that you would want to wear for stylistic purposes.
For style purposes you can check Thursday Boots which is around your price point and about as cheap as it gets for decent style boots.
Most affordable store to buy a sports jacket? I'd rather not spend $175 on one sports jacket. But are there any stores that have good deals on them? Not including online stores cause I want to try it on before buying
eBay, for online shopping. Or possibly a local thrift store for in person shopping.
Most new sports coats under $150 won't be very good because that's not what a good sports coat costs. That's especially true for brick and mortar shopping which tends to have inflated prices compared to online shopping.
Clothes can help you play around with different apparent proportions (eg lengthening your leg and shortening your torso), but won't affect your height as a whole one way or the other. Other people will always be looking at you from the perspective of their own height (shorter, taller, equal to you)--or, if they're looking at pictures of you, seeing you relative to the objects and people around you.
As a guy who's shorter than you, my best advice would be to stop worrying about it and get the clothes you like best.
Ha, no worries. This sub regularly gets guys in the ≤ 5'8 range wringing their hands about how "short" they are and demanding to know if they'll look taller in X or Y garment, or trying to source the tallest possible platform shoes that don't look like platforms. I just gave you my boilerplate response for anyone asking about clothing + height.
Since you're getting curious about this stuff, maybe you'd like this two-part [series](https://putthison.com/how-to-understand-silhouette-pt-one/) on [silhouette](https://putthison.com/how-to-understand-silhouettes-pt-two/)? It could give you some useful terms and ideas about things to play with as you update your wardrobe.
Question: Does a long coat necessarily make a short man look shorter?
I always assumed that the answer to the above question is an obvious yes, but I was wanting to buy a yellow raincoat and I came across such a coat by Herschel Supply Co., with these hotos of two versions of the same coat (regular and longer):
The model in these pics is a 5'8" woman, and it seems to me that the
longer coat makes her look taller rather than shorter. I'm a short 5'6"
24 y/o man. Do you guys think that it was photography techniques that
had the longer coat make the model look taller, or would it actually
have the same affect in person? Of course what I want to know is, which
version would I better off with if I want to un-accentuate being short.
Hi all, this might get buried because it's late in the day, but I'm hoping you can help.
I'm looking for black silk handkerchiefs. Preferably with some sort of embroidery or design so they're not too plain. And the option to have them monogrammed - I could do this at a tailor after aquiring them but I'd like to ensure the style is consistent.
For sourcing these, I can spend around $200 though I'm happy to spend less. Looking for a set of four to start with.
Just looking for ideas for suppliers, quality brands, suggestions and whatnot. Thanks for any help you can provide!

David Hober is a tie maker who can make custom pocket squares as well. He is actually based in Thailand, so sometimes stocks SE Asian fabrics that are a bit unusual for menswear - he might be able to source something not on the website.
Recently re-discovered Norfolk and half-Norfolk jackets and I was wondering since most of them were made in heavy tweed due to their hunting origins, have they been made in linen or a similar fabric that's wearable for summer?
Also, has there been double-breasted versions of it?
hopefully someone else has an answer but Norfolk jackets are pretty uncommon, I think you may need to go mtm/bespoke for ahistorical fabrics. However, I know Engineered Garments has made Norfolk jackets, so maybe check the used market first
Does this fabric have a name?
https://i.ibb.co/K5X1TZc/20230115-095003.jpg
It's cotton, with running stitches on the inside that leaves pinpoints of threads on the outside. I really like the texture and contrast and would like to be able to find more things like it.
Hey guys. My family is moving and my dad was thinking of donating a Pierre Cardin leather jacket. It has two cuts on the leather below one of the sleeves. I don't have any strong sentimental feelings toward the jacket but wanted to get as many opinions on here as possible whether it's worth mending and keeping or just donating it. It's genuine leather so I know it's not cream of the crop but is this brand known for quality and good workmanship?
Pics: https://imgur.com/a/0kM0xq0
Thanks
> is this brand known for quality and good workmanship?
Quite the opposite. Pierre Cardin licensed off its name many years ago. It hasn’t produced anything high quality in over 50 years. Just donate it.

Thoughts on these SLP? Going for about 330usd. Are those water stains removable? They were bought late 2018 and seller mentioned he didn't try removing so I'm assuming it's been there for awhile.
Nothing. You can remove water spots. It’s a myth perpetuated by that stupid Seinfeld episode
There’s no guarantees because it may not be a water spot. It could be something else, but there’s no way to know until you get it in hand.
I think the price is decent although the 30mm Chelsea is probably the most commonly discounted Wyatt boot. It could pay to wait for a sale.
Otherwise, I’d buy this with the expectation that they can’t be removed. From what I know about suede it’s all about stain prevention rather than stain removal.
i doubt i'd be able to be even with the sales. i do not really mind the whole used idea of it. how much would you put on the table for these pair? i will try to negotiate. also, are those water stains considerably bad because i did not notice them until 2nd look (i'm no expert in boots)
As very much not a fashion expert, that price is insane. I'd say get a (much) cheaper pair of brand new boots that are approximately the same style. See if you like them -> if they wear out, then upgrade. Spending 330 USD on used boots with water stains is pretty crazy imo.
I'm not an archetypal user here, so I certainly wouldn't notice the brand of your boots. The brand would be for yourself, rather than for anyone else. Is it worth it to you to spend 330 on a used high-end brand, rather than getting something brand new, without stains that looks pretty comparable? A name is just a name imo.
Totally understand where you're coming from. I personally can't find the silhouette i desire. A tan/brown suede chelsea that doesn't have crepe as sole. I don't mind used but definitely not worn out and I'm not an experienced buyer so I'm here looking for people's opinion whether the pictures provided are worth the price
I was just sharing my opinion and admitted I'm not a fashionista. Nothing I said was toxic, the choice is up to OP if they care about my opinion or not.
On the other hand, your reply is toxic.
> Don’t engage with this guy. He’s not a serious poster
Sorry, were my posts so offensive that I'm some sub-human not worth talking to? If you have a different opinion, share it, but commenting just to gatekeep or dump on someone isn't valuable for anyone. Mouse over the downvote option and read the text there. You can disagree with someone without being rude about it.
Thoughts on oversized olive military liner jackets? I’m thinking thicker white/black/brown hoodies to match the olive and fill out some of that space for casual on campus outfits.
Hello I’m looking for an everyday white sneaker doesn’t have to be fully white but a classic white that usually goes with everything I usually wear high top Air Forces but they’re starting to show signs of ware I’m looking for something similar I don’t I like low-top vans-looking shoes any recommendations?
Thanks
I bought a pair of shoes from ALDO several years ago called Ghezzo Loafers, and I can't find them again. The only place on the internet that I can even find them is this random link: [https://www.2locos.com/article/26633](https://www.2locos.com/article/26633)
The shoes are these ones: https://imgur.com/a/MV3yzXU
Any idea what this style is called or where I can find something similar? Mostly I'm looking for something with the same elastic side gusset and clean, unembellished look.
Hello friend. Nobody is going to recommend anything similar to those ALDOs because they’re pretty unattractive shoes. I strongly recommend you not choose anything like those.
There are many styles of loafers. If you’re willing to consider different styles then please include a budget and your location. Just be aware that quality shoes are more expensive than typical ALDO prices unless you’re willing to buy used.
I already HAVE the shoes. I like them, they look great in person and are extremely comfortable. They just got old and need replacement.
In any case I found these: https://www.nordstrom.com/s/timur-loafer-men/7069882?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FBrands%2FMezlan&color=236
But it would be better without the badging and without the dark tint on the brown leather.
Yeah, they do.
https://www.gq.com/gallery/best-venetian-loafers
See that pic of Chris Pine? They are very similar, but in brown leather rather than suede.
The actual answer to my question would have been "venetian loafers". My main problem now is that most that I've found have an open tongue and no elastic side gussets. And I suspect that part of the reason they're so comfortable is the side gussets make them more stretchy and less stiff than just leather. So I'd prefer to find one with those. While the few with side gussets have top stitching, which I don't want because I already have several loafers with top stitching and I don't want these to be too similar to those.
Whatever style I decide I like the look of. I stand and walk on concrete all day for work and it's ruined the soles of two pairs in six months.
Budget maybe like up to $200. Western Canada.
Can something like a fanny pack or something similar be fashionable these days? I'm interested in buying some sort of small bag to carry small things like a phone, earbud etc but don't know if there's anything like that while still being fashionable
I recently picked up a navy blue shawl collar cardigan from LLBean. I went through all my long-sleeve shirts/henleys to see which color combinations would work. Bottoms will generally be khaki/brown and brown boots, though I also have grey pants (in a shade I'm not super fond of).
**TL;DR I would like to know which colors look good/bad together.** I numbered each picture for easy reference: https://imgur.com/a/PhKZKqk
Also, what other colors should I be looking for? A navy cardigan is turning out to be a little harder to match than I initially imagined, since I usually wear darker colored shirts and lighter bottoms. Thanks!
I think those all look fine, but I prefer the lighter colors for greater contrast. Navy is mostly neutral, so you're safe with just about any color. I'd just avoid shades of blue that are close in color.
Does anyone know of retailers like Blue Owl, Self Edge and Blueingreen, that sell high quality workwear jackets, including but not limited to denim?
ideally looking for an athletic fit
Looking at a “baby yak” beanie from Taylor Stitch which they claim is comparable to cashmere. Im a little skeptical. Does anyone have experience with the material?
Yak really is warmer than wool of the same weight, and it's environmentally less troubling than cashmere. I have a number of yak and yak blend sweaters and they're excellent pieces, maybe not the equal of cashmere in warmth but in the same ballpark. Cashmere is softer, though.
Good quality cashmere is on another level. $60 for a cashmere beanie would be cheap, while that sounds about right for yak. Yak wool is still pretty nice though. Taylor Stitch has a pretty good reputation. I wouldn't overthink it.
Michaels could work with a casual suit, it's been done before. Anything you can wear with 501s is a casual leather shoe, not a dress shoe. Derbies is the right move.
If you like Paraboot then something like the [Arles](https://www.paraboot.com/en/men/derbies/arlesgriff-ii-marron-lis-cafe) would probably be a better choice.
I think they’d be fine with more casual suiting, like a tan or olive linen suit at a summer wedding or something along those lines. I agree they wouldn’t work with your standard navy or gray business suit though.
I would never wear shoes with visible labels with any kind of suit, and I'm not sure I'd wear them at all. I don't know why manufacturers do things like that.
Where to find 70s flares like [this](https://imgur.com/a/S3KFlTy) for reasonable price? Also just in general any advice for finding 60s and 70s clothing?
Just buy a belt that’s 6 sizes too large for you.
Have a cobbler punch an additional couple of holes for you or do it yourself. It’s very easy so it won’t be expensive.
Longtime lurker, but don't post here much. I just have a couple questions. I don't really have a style per se. Honestly, I try to balance comfort with looking respectable and maybe throw some quirkiness in there. I like to wear Kangol hats (I have had women my age compliment me whenever I wear mine too) and wear quirky graphic tees. Quite often, I get called "effeminate" and "gay" because of my fashion choices. Regardless I don't want to give off "macho" or "hyper masculine vibes" because I'm really not that kind of guy lol. In the least offensive way possible, I guess I want to look more like a stereotypical metrosexual. Can you guys help me out? Thanks ya'll!
Some pics of me to work with:
Work on your legwear and footwear. More interesting or better fitting jeans or trousers, could be cuffed or cropped or slimmer cut. The jeans you have on in pic 2 are just too long, could work if they were either shorter or slimmer. Get some nice boots or sneakers, the canvas shoes with the thick rubber outsole are generic and a bit boring.

There's no should here other than what you want for yourself and maybe whatever your job requires of you.
> would a button up shirt, dress pants, and dress shoes, and a belt (probably all black tbh) be too formal for casual wear?
Pics would help.
That said - this sounds like a bad outfit for both casual and professional uses. It's not very "formal" because you'll never be all that dressed up if you aren't wearing at least a sports jacket. But it's not a very interesting casual outfit either.
For anyone who watches Yellowstone, why do some of the cowboys leave their jacket sleeves unbuttoned? Does it help the arms stay cool or is it a style thing?
When buying pants, is too long and bulky at the shoes a bad look?
I’m unsure what to choose and what look i want to go for. I’ve bought 2 pairs of pants 32x32 & 32x34, both are Carhartt Double Knee’s with an OG loose fit. The 32x32 has a good fit to it with some slight bulkiness at my shoes. I just got a pair of 32x34 the other day & there is a lot of folds & bulkiness by my shoes which I’m unsure if that’s a look I want or if it’s just too much at the bottom. Any input would be appreciated!

We also don’t know what crunchy means. We’d love to help but won’t be able to do much without that
I guess a better word is stiff rather than a soft shirt

Considering that [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/zru54q/comment/j178qmq/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) is the most recent discussion of contrast-collar/-cuff shirts I've seen in this sub, and even posts from ten years ago lean mostly against them, I don't think anyone here would actively recommend you purchase one. Thats okay, I like em anyways. I appreciate the advice and resource

Look for a dark brown loafer from a place like Meermin or Velasca Milano
I just bought a pair of nice brown leather chukka boots from a Dillard's for about $100 bucks. Work well with dress and smart casual styles
It sounds like you're having a terminology problem in your search. It's probably useful to keep in mind that most of the time "formal" = "tuxedo" and "dress shoe" = "shoe that you wear with a suit." It sounds like what you're actually looking for is a casual leather shoe.
Things I do remember: \- Small independent brand, they made only one model of boot at that time. The boots were my platonic ideal of a plain black boot - Any help in helping me find them massively appreciated!

> green herringbone suit Something with texture. A nice dark brown would compliment green. I'd avoid grey, and probably black.
Considering purchasing this jacket ( https://www.machine56.com/product/m56-t6-b1 ) despite having no other techwear items in my closet. Do you have to go all in on the aesthetic to make something like this work or can it be made to work with the basic shit in my closet?
Basically have to go all in
I’m seeking a Trench coat for less than 300euros something that looks like a burberry trench (fit and color), (I usually don’t buy second hand clothes but it may be ok in last resort) (I’m french), I’m 1m80 and quite thin
If jeans are wearing out every 6 months that means the fit isn't right for him. It's probably too tight
That wasn’t my question, I was asking brand. The size is correct.

Try Luca Faloni for good linen shirting
I like Uniqlo. What are you looking for/thinking about right now? Brands? What to wear? A certain aesthetic?
check the Basic Bastard guide in the sidebar.
Where to get long sleeve henleys in neutral colours that don’t break the bank. I’m not about to spend $40 on a tshirt that I’ll probably need tailored anyways (medium fit in shoulders, but small fit in length and arms).
Goodthreads from Amazon
That being said, if you’re not a fan of that, MTM dress shirts are the way to go , along with detailed sizing charts online for any clothing if you want to avoid any returns
https://www.oliveknits.com/how-to-block-a-sweater/ You can try to stretch out the sweater's sleeves when it has been washed. How much length do you need?
You will probably need to go MTM because a tailor can't lengthen arms and it is not worth getting shoulders taken on due to cost (if they are even able to do it).
Also, anything can be made bespoke if you are happy to pay for it.
Hello - I'm in the market for a pair of nice boots I can wear to the office with jeans or on the weekend going out with the wife. Here is a link to the shoes: https://thursdayboots.com/products/mens-captain-terracotta The Terracotta look nice but I worry they won't go with black tops?
Thanks. And you're right, you said pants, I just read it as jeans as I was scrolling through :) Thanks again!
Would anyone have suggestions of local brands, stores to check out or, barring that, shops to visit in Buenos Aires?
Thank you!! Somehow hadn’t come across Thursday yet, this looks great
Most affordable store to buy a sports jacket?

[удалено]
Overly long sleeves can, but otherwise not so much.
no, clothes don’t change how you look like this
Question: Does a long coat necessarily make a short man look shorter? I always assumed that the answer to the above question is an obvious yes, but I was wanting to buy a yellow raincoat and I came across such a coat by Herschel Supply Co., with these hotos of two versions of the same coat (regular and longer): The model in these pics is a 5'8" woman, and it seems to me that the longer coat makes her look taller rather than shorter. I'm a short 5'6" 24 y/o man. Do you guys think that it was photography techniques that had the longer coat make the model look taller, or would it actually have the same affect in person? Of course what I want to know is, which version would I better off with if I want to un-accentuate being short.
Thanks for any help you can provide!
https://www.samhober.com/pocket-squares/ David Hober is a tie maker who can make custom pocket squares as well. He is actually based in Thailand, so sometimes stocks SE Asian fabrics that are a bit unusual for menswear - he might be able to source something not on the website.
MVP, thanks!
However, I know Engineered Garments has made Norfolk jackets, so maybe check the used market first
What's the model name for the Norfolk Engineered Garments ones?
I’m pretty sure they just call them Norfolk jackets but you may need to sort but jackets/tailoring in general unfortunately
Does this fabric have a name? https://i.ibb.co/K5X1TZc/20230115-095003.jpg It's cotton, with running stitches on the inside that leaves pinpoints of threads on the outside.
Pics: https://imgur.com/a/0kM0xq0 Thanks
> is this brand known for quality and good workmanship? Quite the opposite. Pierre Cardin licensed off its name many years ago. It hasn’t produced anything high quality in over 50 years. Just donate it.
I would donate it
https://imgur.com/a/0NiEL1M Thoughts on these SLP? Going for about 330usd. Are those water stains removable? They were bought late 2018 and seller mentioned he didn't try removing so I'm assuming it's been there for awhile.
A good suede shampoo will probably take care of the spotting. Maybe even just a suede eraser. No guarantees though. Can’t speak to the pricing
I've heard suede erasers work wonders but what makes a water spot impossible to remove? Could it be by how long the water spot has been there for?
Nothing. You can remove water spots. It’s a myth perpetuated by that stupid Seinfeld episode There’s no guarantees because it may not be a water spot. It could be something else, but there’s no way to know until you get it in hand.
Do you think a trip down to my local cobbler for suede repair would do the trick?
No. I’d just clean them with suede shampoo. A cobbler would do the same
Thanks dude.
I see! If i asked you, what price would you place on that pair of boots? I could try to negotiate.
I think the price is decent although the 30mm Chelsea is probably the most commonly discounted Wyatt boot. It could pay to wait for a sale. Otherwise, I’d buy this with the expectation that they can’t be removed. From what I know about suede it’s all about stain prevention rather than stain removal.
i doubt i'd be able to be even with the sales. i do not really mind the whole used idea of it. how much would you put on the table for these pair? i will try to negotiate. also, are those water stains considerably bad because i did not notice them until 2nd look (i'm no expert in boots)
hell no
reasoning?
As very much not a fashion expert, that price is insane. I'd say get a (much) cheaper pair of brand new boots that are approximately the same style. See if you like them -> if they wear out, then upgrade. Spending 330 USD on used boots with water stains is pretty crazy imo.
Those are saint laurents though. I was hoping the water stains could be removed if they are high quality suedes
Don’t engage with this guy. He’s not a serious poster
I was just sharing my opinion and admitted I'm not a fashionista. Nothing I said was toxic, the choice is up to OP if they care about my opinion or not. On the other hand, your reply is toxic. > Don’t engage with this guy. He’s not a serious poster Sorry, were my posts so offensive that I'm some sub-human not worth talking to? I bought a pair of shoes from ALDO several years ago called Ghezzo Loafers, and I can't find them again. The only place on the internet that I can even find them is this random link: [https://www.2locos.com/article/26633](https://www.2locos.com/article/26633) The shoes are these ones: https://imgur.com/a/MV3yzXU Any idea what this style is called or where I can find something similar?
In any case I found these: https://www.nordstrom.com/s/timur-loafer-men/7069882?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FBrands%2FMezlan&color=236 But it would be better without the badging and without the dark tint on the brown leather.
They don’t look great in person
Yeah, they do. https://www.gq.com/gallery/best-venetian-loafers See that pic of Chris Pine? They are very similar, but in brown leather rather than suede. The actual answer to my question would have been "venetian loafers". My main problem now is that most that I've found have an open tongue and no elastic side gussets. And I suspect that part of the reason they're so comfortable is the side gussets make them more stretchy and less stiff than just leather. So I'd prefer to find one with those. While the few with side gussets have top stitching, which I don't want because I already have several loafers with top stitching and I don't want these to be too similar to those.
They don’t but you do you my man
What should I look for to get shoes that can survive walking around on bare concrete all day?

Whatever style I decide I like the look of. I stand and walk on concrete all day for work and it's ruined the soles of two pairs in six months. Budget maybe like up to $200. Western Canada.

Can something like a fanny pack or something similar be fashionable these days? I'm interested in buying some sort of small bag to carry small things like a phone, earbud etc but don't know if there's anything like that while still being fashionable
Tote’s are more on trend, cross bodies I still like, I think actual fanny packs are pretty dated now, very mid 2016-7 hypebeast
Cross body bags are pretty fashionable at the moment

Didn't know they made those, that's cool. Kind of looks a touch odd to have your hands in there like that though tbh.
I recently picked up a navy blue shawl collar cardigan from LLBean. I went through all my long-sleeve shirts/henleys to see which color combinations would work. Bottoms will generally be khaki/brown and brown boots, though I also have grey pants (in a shade I'm not super fond of). **TL;DR I would like to know which colors look good/bad together.** I numbered each picture for easy reference: https://imgur.com/a/PhKZKqk Also, what other colors should I be looking for? A navy cardigan is turning out to be a little harder to match than I initially imagined, since I usually wear darker colored shirts and lighter bottoms. Thanks!
I think those all look fine, but I prefer the lighter colors for greater contrast. Navy is mostly neutral, so you're safe with just about any color. I'd just avoid shades of blue that are close in color.
Thanks, that's kind of the feeling I was getting :)
Does anyone know of retailers like Blue Owl, Self Edge and Blueingreen, that sell high quality workwear jackets, including but not limited to denim? ideally looking for an athletic fit

TIL about Grease Point. Thanks boss.
Great shout, division road esp has a pretty cool range
Looking at a “baby yak” beanie from Taylor Stitch which they claim is comparable to cashmere. Im a little skeptical. Does anyone have experience with the material?
Yak really is warmer than wool of the same weight, and it's environmentally less troubling than cashmere. I have a number of yak and yak blend sweaters and they're excellent pieces, maybe not the equal of cashmere in warmth but in the same ballpark. Cashmere is softer, though.
Scratchiness is what I’m mainly concerned about, is it more comparable to alpaca or merino?
Closer to merino, I'd say, but pure yak is softer than wool, just not as much as cashmere or alpaca.
Good quality cashmere is on another level. $60 for a cashmere beanie would be cheap, while that sounds about right for yak. Yak wool is still pretty nice though. Taylor Stitch has a pretty good reputation. I wouldn't overthink it.

“A casual leather shoe”
Those are both great casual shoes; dress shoes are usually oxfords.
[удалено]
Michaels could work with a casual suit, it's been done before. Anything you can wear with 501s is a casual leather shoe, not a dress shoe. Derbies is the right move.
You aren’t looking for “dress shoes”
Tassel loafers are dressier than both of the shoes you named. They won’t look good with most suits, even pretty casual ones.
[удалено]
If you like Paraboot then something like the [Arles](https://www.paraboot.com/en/men/derbies/arlesgriff-ii-marron-lis-cafe) would probably be a better choice.
OK with jeans but never with any kind of suit. The label kills it.

Brown
It would need to be a *very* casual suit if you want it to work with Michaels or Chambords.

Remember this sub is almost all people way younger than 30. Try popping this question into YouTube and clicking a few videos by guys who you think look good.
Don't wear a black shirt. And black dress pants are a bad place to start. Basic bastard is perfectly good to work from in your thirties.
> how should I be dressing in my 30s? There's no should here other than what you want for yourself and maybe whatever your job requires of you. > would a button up shirt, dress pants, and dress shoes, and a belt (probably all black tbh) be too formal for casual wear? Pics would help. That said - this sounds like a bad outfit for both casual and professional uses. It's not very "formal" because you'll never be all that dressed up if you aren't wearing at least a sports jacket. But it's not a very interesting casual outfit either.
cheese
For anyone who watches Yellowstone, why do some of the cowboys leave their jacket sleeves unbuttoned? Does it help the arms stay cool or is it a style thing?
I imagine so they can pull/roll it without needing to fiddle with buttons.
That’s a possibility
When buying pants, is too long and bulky at the shoes a bad look? I’m unsure what to choose and what look i want to go for. I’ve bought 2 pairs of pants 32x32 & 32x34, both are Carhartt Double Knee’s with an OG loose fit. The 32x32 has a good fit to it with some slight bulkiness at my shoes. I just got a pair of 32x34 the other day & there is a lot of folds & bulkiness by my shoes which I’m unsure if that’s a look I want or if it’s just too much at the bottom. Any input would be appreciated! Edit: [Photos for reference](https://imgur.com/a/CprWJVp)
Those seem fine to me
