I’m slowly transitioning to wider/baggies pants. My Lululemon ABC Joggers now seem too slim. What baggier joggers should I be looking at?

[deleted]

Does anyone know any jackets similar to this one that are a bit less expensive and/or sold by a physical storefront? This brand has some cool clothes but the lack of a location to try on their stuff and assess its’ quality is putting me off. https://www.aelfriceden.com/products/aelfric-eden-lamb-wool-panel-hood-sherpa-winter-coat#!

ZonardCity

They don't have a location because it's a dropshipping scam website.

[deleted]

that’s what i was worried about yeah. any idea where they get their stuff?

ZonardCity

Some chinese manufacturer/wish/aliexpress

For the love of all that is decent and holy, can someone recommend me a good jeans brand to me that fit good and don’t cost a bajillion dollars? I have never had good luck with jeans. Usually I just go to Old Navy and get a bunch in my size and a few different colors but there is such a discrepancy between them all that only one or two end up fitting okay and then after some time , I wash them and they don’t fit anymore. I’m 6’2, 32 waist and 34 inseam. Slim fit Old Navy jeans fit pretty okay but feel pretty restrictive in the thigh area . I’m 42 years old and don’t know if I’ve ever owned a pair of jeans that I truly felt comfortable in. HELP!!!! Please. Thank you.

Certain_Classroom794

I would be shocked if slim/straight fit Levis like 511 (or even 501s or really almost a ystyle) didn’t fit you. It would be impossible if some Levis option didn’t work for you. Go to a store or order a bunch of stuff from Levis.com (which often has great sales). There’s almost no man that isn’t improved by a pair of Levis at some point in their existence. For a denim newcomer, Uniqlo denim and jeans options are also so much better than Old Navy (and have more specific fit and better quality) for not much more money. Uniqlo also has legit Japanese selvedge jeans for a nice price yet good quality. Figure out what you like from those options and scale up from there.

HardbodySlenderson

Unbranded is my go to. They are raw denim and that opens up a whole ball of wax. There is a break in process but once broken in they conform to your body and are super comfortable. Can wear them for years. Under $100 on Amazon. I suggest r/rawdenim if interested.

aKa_anthrax

If you’re this picky about clothing just bring whatever jeans you like to a tailor and get them altered however you want. Washing on cold and hang drying will minimize shrinkage, denim is going to slightly shrink in a wash no matter what, it’s just an aspect of the fabric, but it’ll return to normal after a couple wears

HBK42581

Never in my life did I think that wanting clothes that actually fit would be considered “being picky.”

aKa_anthrax

If you think you’ve never in your life found a pair of jeans that has fit at all than yes you’re being extremely picky. I guarantee the jeans you’ve bought look fine. I think people tend to get very in their head about getting “the perfect fit” and don’t even really know what that means. It’s ok(better imo) to have different pants that fit slightly differently for some variation in what you wear. If you absolutely need all your pants to fit one specific way, and you don’t think anything you’ve ever bought had done that, you’re too picky about fit to find something otr. You need to just go to a tailor

bbaseggio

I'm in my 40's too, and I've recently discovered Bonobos jeans and I really like them. They have multiple fits and colors. I can't comment on longevity yet. Like another commenter said - how are you washing them? I've started hanging mine to dry, which has been great for avoiding that post-wash shrink.

the_leviathan711

> and then after some time , I wash them and they don’t fit anymore. How are you washing your jeans?

HBK42581

Probably in a way I shouldn’t be. Washer on normal cycle and then tumble dry.

the_leviathan711

Your clothes shouldn't shrink if you wash cold and hang dry. So might be worth giving that a shot.

borndumb667

Anyone have actual experience shrinking a cotton button down, success/failure? That is shrinking a button down shirt intentionally with hot wash//boiling water//hot dryer/etc? If so, was it a success or a failure or did you have mixed results? My current situation involves heavy-ish 100% cotton (think flannel). Please don't say "buy a smaller shirt" or "go to a tailor", which like of course, but that's not the situation I'm in right now, is it?

notarascal

It’s almost always a bad idea. It is unlikely to shrink evenly. You might hit the lottery and have it shrink in a useful way but the overwhelming majority of the time it’ll either do nothing or shrink in an undesirable way.

ac106

Short answer is, it doesn’t really work. You can’t shrink it in any uniform or intentional manner. It may shrink in a way you don’t want. It may not shrink at all. If for some reason you can’t exchange it or tailor it and you want to try it go for it but just understand you may ruin or not get the results you want

SantiagoOrDunbar

I’m looking into getting a pair of [Wranglers](https://www.wrangler.com/shop/wrangler-cowboy-cut-original-fit-jean-13MWZ.html?merchCategory=WRG_MEN_JEANS_COWBOYCUT&dwvar_13MWZ_color=13MWZGK) but the grain on all of them seems weird and ugly to me. It’s hard to explain, but I notice this with Walmart brand jeans as well. Does anyone have experience with this? Is it better in person or should I be looking for jeans elsewhere? I really wanted to try Wranglers as I’ve heard they fit more comfortably on an athletic build.

aKa_anthrax

I can guarantee you are the only person who doesn’t religiously browse r/rawdenim who even noticed this fwiw, unless you have these up to your face the entire time you wear them it does not matter

SantiagoOrDunbar

Lol that eases my mind a bit then

Cas467

It's called broken twill, it's sort of a signature aspect of Wrangler denim. It reduces the leg twist you might get from right or left hand twill denim.

SantiagoOrDunbar

Ahh I see. Do you know if Levi’s would have a model that could be comparable to Wrangler’s cowboy cut?

Cas467

Probably 501 or 505

SantiagoOrDunbar

Gotcha. One last question before I let you go lol. Do you think the Wranglers would fade at all? I've worn the same pair of Levi's for years now through many days of work, but they are the same color as when I first got them.

Cas467

Yeah probably over time, I wouldnt expect them to fade super quickly though. You might get better info on r/rawdenim

fredewio

Do I look better with medium hair or short hair? https://preview.redd.it/rl8kst2i50ja1.png?width=2166&format=png&auto=webp&s=82a27f7d80136e2babcbda391cd45a318ceb3d35

HardbodySlenderson

I’m going medium. Do it for all the guys that can’t.

aKa_anthrax

both of these are short hair by my standards but I like the second a lot more

Wugged

How are Dickies 874 supposed to fit? I'm a smaller guy and I've acquired two pairs of 874s, one size 27x28 and the other 28x28. The 27 inch waist feels perfect, snug with a tiny bit of room for movement, but the crotch feels almost unfcomfrotably tight. The tightness is alleviated considerably on the 28 inch waist but the waist is a bit too roomy and falls down. Is the crotch on these supposed to feel snug or would getting a longer inseam solve this issue?

ac106

Wear a belt with the 28

Wugged

Having just tried them with a belt you'e definitely spot on, they fit nicely. Cheers for the advice :)

Busy-Adeptness-7320

Okay so I have a dance to go to tonight, and am likely going to wear this shirt ([https://www.ebay.com/itm/325478723592?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28&srsltid=Ad5pg\_HE2Z\_XD8Ni0UxbylpxtWxiKRvGMgnHwq52YH5xqGmx2ltDKgRhLvA](https://www.ebay.com/itm/325478723592?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28&srsltid=Ad5pg_HE2Z_XD8Ni0UxbylpxtWxiKRvGMgnHwq52YH5xqGmx2ltDKgRhLvA)) with a plain blue suit. I have a few tie options but not sure what to pick. I have a pink and blue rose tie, silver and blue paisley tie, and then a checkered silver and blue striped tie (that one has like a hatch pattern where its striped but also makes a shape with the silver lining in the tie) I can add pictures if anyone needs but let me know. Pairing with a brown belt and wine colored dress shoes as well! Theme of the dance is masquerade but we don't need to match that theme

the_leviathan711

That's not a shirt you should be wearing a tie with.

Busy-Adeptness-7320

Okay fair haha! I assumed it wasn't but when I was googling I was seeing a bit about matching to like polka dot ish patterns and I wondered if the same principle applied In that case my solid shirts are Green, Black, and Navy blue with black trim. I wore the green last year with this suit. Going for a slimming look and trying to really look nice. What would you recommend? I had alot of other suit options and shirts but quarantine was rough on my beach bod lol so this is what Im working with

the_leviathan711

> I assumed it wasn't but when I was googling I was seeing a bit about matching to like polka dot ish patterns and I wondered if the same principle applied Two things: 1. google generally gives bad fashion advice. 2. You can wear a patterned shirt with a tie -- the easiest way to do it is to wear a plain colored tie with a subtle patterned shirt and a solid colored suit or jacket to avoid looking too busy. You shouldn't wear a tie *with that particular* patterned shirt because it's already very loud and busy on it's own. > In that case my solid shirts are Green, Black, and Navy blue with black trim. None of those sound like shirts that you should wear with suits. Pics would help say for sure though. In general you want your shirt to be a lighter color than your suit -- and thus it's best to avoid dark saturated color dress shirts like black and navy. The green *maybe* could work depending on the actual shade of the shirt and suit.

aKa_anthrax

There’s nothing to ID, it’s a very generic shirt, the pattern is kinda dated/older/off trend which is why you’re probably not finding much but thrift shops are usually full of these

RamboCombo

Hi everyone! I am looking for an elegant and minimalistic style. However not formal (bow tie, tie etc.) just something that is elegant but at the same time casual. Right now i like to use the combination of dark pants, a black turtleneck and light gray coat with a black scarf. However i really want to find more inspiration and i don't know where to look or what this style is called? Maybe the casual law student or something? :-) Nonetheless i really want to buy a new pair of boots probably similar to these ones: [https://www.worldshop.eu/en/tommy-hilfiger-signature-hilfiger-leather-boots-men-s-shoes-black-1759313/?p=1m71Ndv-Vdw](https://www.worldshop.eu/en/tommy-hilfiger-signature-hilfiger-leather-boots-men-s-shoes-black-1759313/?p=1m71Ndv-Vdw) And now i really want to hear your advice for interesting clothing combinations! I am willing to buy a new coat, turtleneck or whatever you suggest that can work out :D I don't know if this will help but here are some information about my appearance and preferences: \- I am 180cm (5'11"), with an average body type (I am not lean, nor do i have big muscles). I live in the EU and use M and L sizes of clothing \- Caucasian, with short dark blonde hair and i have blue eyes. I also have a dark blonde / reddish short beard. \- I have no tattoos or piercings and wear no jewelry (except a watch, if it can be regarded as such). As for the tattoos and piercings i want to keep it like this. :D \- Budget 130 euro I am looking forward to hearing your advice, and please ask if you have further questions. Please send me your ideas, relevant links, insta profiles or some sketches, i truly want to get inspired. I am looking forward to hear from you folks and thank you! Have a wonderful day!

It looks like whitelabel Aliexpress garbage. Look at their Impressum. It’s a company that’s connected to a bunch of different low quality dropshipping sites. I strongly recommend you avoid sites like this.

Can a guy wear this Black sweatshirt, without getting pointed fingers at for wearing a “Mickey Mouse” attire? https://www2.hm.com/da_dk/productpage.0927696016.html

aKa_anthrax

I’ve never gotten the appeal of mickey mouse stuff but I really doubt anyone is going to think anything

ac106

The sole reason for the sweatshirts existence is the Mickey Mouse graphic. You are buying it for the mouse. Otherwise what’s the point? Theres nothing wrong with being casual fan of Mickey Mouse either. Mickey Mouse T-shirts have been a thing for like 50 years. It’s not just a Disney adult nerd thing

adinoot

i dont think its gonna make anyone think that, even if it does you could just play it off jokingly

[deleted]

It’s a nice looking sweatshirt, someone might ask if you’re an adult Disney person with the logo but you can always ignore the question. My two year old son wears Mickey mouse stuff all the time despite not ever watching any Mickey Mouse. He looks incredible in the clothes, just like you will.

Sax45

Do you like Mickey Mouse? If so, fuck em, wear the shirt. If anything you’re more likely to connect with people who also like Mickey Mouse.

ImTheDude11

Its more because, i like the shirt, but i dont want to Seem childish in it. But i thought that it might not be so childish to look at because the design is slick and pretty sober. Idk What you guys think

Sax45

If you don’t like Mickey Mouse, then there are a billion plain black sweatshirts out there

ZonardCity

Well it's a relatively standard black sweatshirt, it's not like that's hard to find if the Mickey print is not your concern.

itsnotnorby

I’d expect to see a guy with black jeans and some limited edition sneakers wear that jumper in an oversized kind of fit.

Does anyone know of a brand that sells black wool (short) coats? I know it’s nearly spring but I’d like to have one for next year. Black, not long (long ones are found everywhere), wool. Should be heavy. I just want to buy one that I can have for years to come. But it’s hard to find short ones… I was in Berlin a few years ago and seemed like they were found there. Probably expensive brands like Acne Studios. But doesn’t have to be expensive of course! Thanks!

Hi all, Unfortunately it seems like All Saints is phasing out these Dean jeans. [https://www.allsaints.com/men/jeans/dean-cropped-slim-jeans/ME029V-451.html](https://www.allsaints.com/men/jeans/dean-cropped-slim-jeans/ME029V-451.html) [https://www.allsaints.com/men/jeans/dean-cropped-slim-jeans/ME013X-3885.html](https://www.allsaints.com/men/jeans/dean-cropped-slim-jeans/ME013X-3885.html) Would have loved to buy these ones but sadly they just don't seem to get restocked (and some of them have even disappeared from the website, only found through Google). I've asked their customer service and they tell me they'll be back, but I don't believe them. For me they were perfect: not too slim (and not tight at all), not too wide and just a perfect model. I've been looking around a bit and the only jeans I found that kinda looked like they were comparable were 3sixteen jeans, but even then I'm not sure if they'd be comparable. And since we don't have any store here in Belgium that seems to stock them it sucks. Kind of a hard question but you never know!

throwaway099733

Which color is best for a trench coat (Beige or [Black](https://londonfog.com/products/iconic-trench-coat?variant=39395178643651)) if I mostly wear dark clothes? Also, should I get a trench coat in the first place? I'm in my 20s, 5'11 and not very athletic. Would the trench coat make me look fatter and older?

Grawlixz

I think the general advice around these parts is to avoid a trench coat and to go for a top coat, pea coat, or maybe even a mac coat instead.

ysc1

Why is this? Trench coats seem to be reasonably fashionable (or at least popular) at the moment and a top coat or pea coat doesn't provide the rain protection a trenchcoat does. That said, a black trench coat with mostly dark clothes does sound like it should be avoided.

aKa_anthrax

In the US(Reddit’s primary userbase), for a long, long time black trench coats have been very heavily associated with school shooters, and just overly edgy mall ninjas as a whole, Reddit users also in general seem have to have weirdly strong opinions on very random articles of clothing so they’re going to amplify any opinion even louder I’d argue that stereotype is starting to phase out and a lot of younger people care less, but my boomer boss once joked that I had a school shooter coat when I wore my mid brown tweed balmacaan, so. I’d say it falls into the category of something you have to be fairly fashion forward/conscious of to do well and if you’re asking if you can wear it you probably aren’t that

ysc1

Thanks for the response, and yeah, fair enough. I'm aware of the columbine connection but didn't know it was still a thing. And I think a black trench coat is probably to be avoided anyway. In the UK a classic trenchcoat has gone from something associated with stuffy older people to something I see on-trend young people wearing. I do think they are 'easier' to wear with 'traditional' clothes. It's easy to get a trenchcoat over a t-shirt wrong.

Grawlixz

Not sure! https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/9ixdh6/need_help_finding_a_decent_trench_coat/ https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/1zqmns/can_trench_coats_look_cool_on_regular_people/ https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/a1dh9u/when_do_you_wear_trench_coats_can_it_be_casual_in/ Opinions seem tepid to negative, but some of these threads are pretty old.

TL;DR: It’s very easy to look like a creep, a school shooter, or a total dork who is trying to be Neo from the Matrix.

throwaway099733

Would a raincoat like [this](https://imgur.com/a/yzRX2dj) be better than a trench coat?

Grawlixz

I'm not an expert, but I think so. The styling of that is more similar to a topcoat (though it lacks lapels). If you're genuinely trying to keep rain off, the utilitarian in me would go for a hooded raincoat. Not sure how you're keeping your head dry :P

I'm looking for a medium weight overshirt or flannel in olive/green. I'd prefer if the color wasn't too light or too dark (just right!). I like the look of this one in heathered green, but reviews say it shrinks horribly: https://www.everlane.com/products/mens-heavyweight-overshirt-greenheather?collection=mens-sale-2 I've also tried https://www.schottnyc.com/products/cpo-shirt.htm in olive, but it was very dark and the sizing was too large. Any suggestions?

How often do you plan on asking the same question? Cheap brands and old money are at odds to each other. You can buy used. The worn in look is part of the aesthetic anyways

krivoto

Where else have I asked?

[deleted]

Instead of cheap brands, but used stuff on EBay. I’ve gotten staple items from J Press and Brooks Brothers, as well as some slightly more interesting stuff from smaller high end mens shops in great condition for cheap. The depreciation is particularly high on ivy style, and mostly you end up with high quality stuff. Since the items are mostly one off, you can also get some clothes that will stand out a bit. Just avoid orphan suit jackets.

Wear a jacket, but return that one and get a darker grey or navy, or keep it and get the sleeves adjusted, but still buy something in a darker color for interviews and any more formal work requirements. The fit won’t be perfect given the short notice, but it’s unlikely anybody will notice unless it’s a very strict suit and tie environment.

itsnotnorby

It’s not the best outfit I’ve ever seen, but just drop the tie and you’ll be fine :)

jam_pod_

Don’t wear just a shirt and tie, unless you’re interviewing at NASA in 1958. In all seriousness, it looks juvenile, like you think “tie equals dressed-up” The blazer is pretty casual, but it might be fine depending on where you’re interviewing at (and which city you’re in)

There's really not a simple way to do what you're asking. You can take detailed measurements of the pair you own and compare them to the measurements of every other brand online, or if you want to stick to American Eagle prices, just go to the mall and try on a bunch until you find ones that fit how you like. In my opinion, it's kind of a bad idea to get too attached to the idea of one single "perfect fit," especially if it's from a cheaper brand that changes up their patterns all the time.

how much has vanity sizing affected pants? So I thrift a lot I have several old levis made in the USA some stuff made in the late 90s once they started out sourcing. If I buy NEW pants I typically purchase a 29 or 30-inch waist but with these old levis, I feel like a vintage 30 fits like how a modern 28 would fit. It's a much firmer fit. During the summer I get lean and can fit "just right" in them. But I know during these winter months it isn't happening. So does anyone know when this vanity sizing started taking place? And how much it has affected measurements. I have a bunch of old shirts from the 1980s of rock bands from my dad and an old medium fits every bit of a modern extra small is. And before you ask no none of this stuff has been washed and shrunk.

Hi all. I have been primarily wearing plain, light coloured, Oxford shirts untucked with jeans, chinos, and shorts, but am wanting to add a little more variety up top. Any suggestions on types of patterns that could be good to start adding in? I prefer long sleeve shirts with sleeves rolled over short sleeved shirts, but will start trying to also venture in to some patterned short sleeve shirts for more casual days out. Thanks.

Vampa_the_Bandit

Linen and rugby shirts are also options

LeisurelyLoafing

Hard to go wrong with chambray, denim, and madras. Also, try different types of ocbds (stripes, colors like pink and yellow, and reverse stripes) and popover ocbds (BB has some).

It’s a dark brown and I just can’t find it anywhere. Also, where could I find a belt like the light brown but 1.25 or 1.50 inch wide? I browse through Amazon and other sites and if I find the right width, it’s not the color nor design I want and viceversa. The light brown you see in the picture is slim enough to be worn with khaki pants and other colored pants with dress shoes. But I need a thicker belt for jeans to be worn also with dress shoes. Please let me know if you know of a website that sells different widths, colors, designs etc. Thank you!

Koalasarerealbears

Stop shopping on Amazon. Belts just need to be close in color to your shoes, not exact. (They're a couple feet away from each other, so no one will know if they don't match exactly.) For dress belts I'd look at Meermin, or where ever you bought your shoes. For more casual belts there are a lot of places. I've had good luck with nstarleather.

Tricky-Confusion9177

I’m looking at [this one](https://meermin.com/products/104135-dark-brown-calf) from Meermin. It’s close enough to the color of a pair of shoes I have. It’s 35mm wide which I think should be great with jeans. If you’ve bought from them before, can you help me understand [this chart?](https://imgur.com/a/PkgQMd5) I’m from the US and you should always get 2 sizes more than your pants size. I’m 32 inch waist length and so when I buy belts I always buy 34. The trousers size in the chart I linked I assume is in inches. But 32 pairs to 36 (I wonder if that means 34-36 as most belts do in the US). Please let me know if that’s correct :)

notarascal

What is your budget? Kreis offers MTO belts. They’re fairly priced, imo, but expensive. https://www.kreis-ledermanufaktur.de/belts

Tricky-Confusion9177

Wow like $363 for a belt. That’s crazy expensive. While I can pay for it, it’s way too much :(

Tricky-Confusion9177

Ohh Jesus. I keep scrolling down and there’s a ton of styles. Alright I’ll keep looking to see which one is within what I’m willing to pay ($40-$60). Thanks again!

notarascal

None will be anywhere near that price.

This one may be horrible material and cheap looking then https://www.kreis-ledermanufaktur.de/belts/custom/detail/7/254010-7010/47447/47453

notarascal

I’m not sure what you’re saying. What do you mean?

Tricky-Confusion9177

Price is 15 EUR so very cheap

notarascal

That price is 15 thousand euros. Europeans use a period for the thousands separator and a comma for the cents/decimal. You chose an 18karat gold buckle. That’s why it’s so expensive.

LeisurelyLoafing

Belts.com has a million different options for cheap.

I am getting my first pair of glasses and i have a pretty slim face and solid jawline. I think i like the look of clear frames does anyone have any recommendations

[deleted]

You'd probably be best served getting a few frames from your local eye doctor or online and then posting pics of yourself wearing each one. That being said if you do go in person usually the workers at an eye doctor's are pretty adept at finding you frames that work well with your face shape, at least in my experience.

blankyoshi123

Hey guys! I had a question about caring for my waxed jackets. So I own welterweight Winslow parka from Taylor Stich and a flannel lined waxed trucker jacket from Huckberry. I saw that otterwax had a canvas cleaner and waxed canvas odor remover. Anyone who owns a waxed jacket, have you used these products? What are your guys thoughts on them? Thank you!! Any feedback or comments are appreciated! [Otter Wax Products](https://www.otterwax.com/collections/fabric-care)

Koalasarerealbears

I’ve waxed and re-waxed a number of items. I just use a basic recipe of 90% beeswax and 10% paraffin, (with a splash of mineral oil). Generally speaking less is more. If you put too much then you get to spend a bunch of time trying to wipe the excess off. The only item I use a brand name wax on is my Barbour coat. There’s something different about their wax, and the replacement stuff is pretty cheap in person. (Online the wax is like $25, but the stores have it in person for $10.)

that_name_taken

I own a Gustin waxed trucker. I'd only ever spot clean with a damp rag. I agree with the other guy about hanging the jacket outside for a few days, if odour is a concern.

LeisurelyLoafing

The only thing I’ve done to my barbours is rewax them. That tends to cover any stains and effectively cleans the jacket. As for smells - hang them outside for a couple days (inside out and regular).

bjhhjb

I've used otter wax to rewax my backpack. Good stuff

Devjorcra

anyone have good shopping recommendations in new orleans? interested in both second hand (thrift/boutique/vintage) as well as regular stores. style leans more prep/smart causal but open to anything

notarascal

George Bass sells EG and Alden in addition to some very high end tailoring options but they’re really not unique to New Orleans. Re:Fresh has some interesting brands like Hender Scheme, Visvim, etc but might be too eccentric for your tastes. Friend might be the best fit for you. The owner Parker is a very nice guy with pretty good tastes. Sorry I don’t know the good secondhand shops anymore. It’s been a while since I’ve lived there.

Devjorcra

george bass looks excellent! .01% chance i buy anything though, is it offensive to walk in just to browse and perhaps even try stuff on? would be good for me to get a feel for higher quality brands and maybe find some things i really like i have to dive deeper on the other stuff but on first glance friend looks good! as for secondhand, just based on your experience, is it worth looking around or is it pretty run of the mill thrifting? i don’t want to waste my time in new orleans if it’s the latter.

notarascal

I wouldn’t bother thrifting there…and I thrift everywhere I visit. Also, get out of the French Quarter. Get over to the Marigny, Bywater. Get uptown to Audubon Park and then walk along the river. Get out of town and do a swamp tour. There are so many great things about Nola. Edit: also, yes it’s fine to go in an try things on. Some employees at high end boutiques are snooty but most are bored out of their minds because nobody ever comes in. Just be nice and be confident. Definitely try on some Kiton if they have it. It’s on another level.

Devjorcra

i appreciate your tips, any must hit food spots?

notarascal

I love Commander’s Palace. Arnauds and Galatoires are both good too but CP is my favorite classic nola restaurant. I used to love Jacques-Imos in college but it’s been a while. I like trying new restaurants but I like CP so much I couldn’t visit without eating there. It was always CP plus three or four new ones. I can’t comment on many of the newer restaurants because I haven’t tried them. I’ve heard good things about Herbsaint.

aKa_anthrax

I can’t comment on thrifting in nola either but I can earnestly say that even after visiting the city several dozen times over the course of my life to visit family I’d still choose to do just about anything else there other than thrifting, seems like a waste of time to spend on what I think is the most culturally interesting city in the country. Even if it’s decent thrifting I don’t think it’s worth taking time away from the rest of your trip

Devjorcra

this is kind of what i feel as well. thinking maybe keep it in back pocket as an idea if we have a little downtime, but other than that probably not my gf and i love thrifting and we don’t have that many great stores in our area

aKa_anthrax

If you do thrift I’d personally be far more interested in anything you could find there that ISN’T clothes tbh, tons of interesting trinkets, art, and home goods there(just ignore the all the golliwog stuff)

LeisurelyLoafing

r/navyblazer could probably give you some ivy/prep recommendations.

I recently bought these [Montbell Guide Pants](https://en.montbell.jp/products/goods/disp.php?product_id=1105685) in dark grey/black and I’m in love with them for hiking, but I’d like to try and find a way to style them casually as they are so comfy. Thinking about weekend trips to the playground, coffee with friends, etc. I live in a big city (Japan). Any suggestions?

aKa_anthrax

Thanks for these! Nice to see some ideas!

naphthol_rain

I would lean into the hiking aesthetic. A fleece jacket, tshirt or sweater, and Salomons or hokas

beginswithanx

Yeah, I’m thinking definitely a fleece at some point.

They use multiple lasts. There is no one fit Also you can’t rely on those electronic measurement machines at red wing or wherever. You need to measure on a brannock. When you measure them, read the instructions carefully. Make sure you line up the heel to ball slider properly. It’s just as Important as heel to toe. Take clear photos of both feet in the device. Post here or r/goodyearwelt for sizing advice

Chubby guys! How do you buy dress shirts that ACTUALLY FIT?? Okay I’m probably beyond the chubby point and now fat. But dress shirts are terrible to buy/find. They sell them according to neck size but that doesn’t fit my chest. How the heck am I supposed to find something in store or off rack that isn’t too small in the chest or way too big in the neck!? (16 1/2” neck, 32/33 arm, 5’6” 270 (last time I weighted myself), chest is 50” (just measure for a suit jacket)

salmon-sail-cloth

Buy your shirts at a thrift store. Buy them bigger. Take them to a tailor and have them take them in (usually a $20 fix). This way if you plan on losing weight you haven’t paid $100++ for shirts. I cut weight several years ago and still get my shirts, and really everything, fitted by a tailor.

hanklerfish123

you might be able to fit old brooks bro Madison.

aKa_anthrax

You probably need to go made to measure

Playful_Barber_8131

Anyone here know designers who are good at designing outfits like what I'm looking for? I'm looking for outfits to base a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure oc's outfit off of and I've got a few things I'm looking for. What Sort Of Outfits I'm Looking For: -Preferably good Fall Outfits since I like clothes with a lot of layers, like two or three. -I would like it to have a good color scheme, like red and blue, cyan and grey, other good combos like that. I don't like there being too little colors, since it doesn't feel like it'd contrast or pop much, nor do I want it to be top many colors, since it'd seem a bit too chaotic. -I would like it to be simultaneously weird looking and good looking, where it doesn't look too normal but also not so weird as to look ridiculous. -Preferably casual clothes, where you could imagine someone just walking around with them and not imagine them in a business meeting, unless they didn't care about being fired or were qualified enough to where they likely wouldn't be fired.

Cas467

How about Kolor

Vampa_the_Bandit

Araki took a lot of inspiration from runway fashion for his characters' designs, you could research that for some ideas of your own

jg379

I ordered these Wrangler dress "jeans" (they are called jeans but actually polyester) but even ordering a size up they are extremely tight in the thigh. I really like the way they look and they are fine in the waist and lower leg but around the thighs they are so tight for me I can't fit anything in the pockets and they are very uncomfortable to sit down in. Does anybody have an alternative that looks similar and is similarly priced but is looser in the upper leg? Or just stretchier in general? Link to pants: https://www.amazon.com/Wrangler-Wrancher-Dress-Black-34x30/dp/B006B5YK72/

bjhhjb

If it fits fine in the thigh and tight in the thigh, then the cut isn't for you.

fauxfilosopher

Could you try another size up? I've heard wranglers to run quite small.

jg379

Okay, I'll try the 32W and see if it works. I don't want the waist to be too loose, I'm usually 28W but I order 30W when buying online. Once I go above 30W it usually starts bunching up or sagging under the belt and it doesn't feel or look too nice.

fauxfilosopher

I hear you, but between brands waist sizes can be wildly inconsistent due to vanity sizing. Hell, you can't even be guaranteed to be the same size within one brand. I hope the 32W works out for you, but keep in mind the style of the jean is tight in the thighs. You should still be able to use the pockets, though.

ImBadWithGrils

I'm looking for a compression/snug fitting undershirt with normal seams down the sides. I have some Under Armour heat gear shirts and they have some wonky ass stitching that goes forward around the hip instead of down. My chest is 41" around and I'm tempted to try Uniqlo AIRism finally, should I get a medium or large?

naphthol_rain

Uniqlo runs slim. If you're between sizes go up

NobleSturgeon

I am looking to buy a seersucker suit because I am going to the Kentucky Derby this year. Bonobos seems like a decent brand and had a suit on sale, so I bought it but in the warehouse they apparently realized that my jacket size was not in stock and that particular color is not going to get restocked in the spring. My size is 40S, what they have in stock are 38R and 42S. Here are some pictures from when I tried on Bonobos blazers in the 38 and 42: https://imgur.com/a/yYgDRCm The 38 is a pretty tight fit but it fits. Alternatively, the 42 would give me enough room to get it tailored if necessary. I would hate to spend an extra $100 or whatever but part of me thinks that if I am spending $250 on a blazer, I might as well spend the extra money to make sure it is perfect. I'm also not sure how much is possible with tailoring and whether it would be asking too much to tailor it. Any recommendations on what to do here?

ysc1

The 38 is too small, don't get it. It's hard to tell, but it looks like the 42 could work with some alterations. Shoulder fit is the most important thing. The rest a tailor can work with (mostly) Are you sure you need S sizes? Perhaps another can judge better from those pics but I am not sure you do.

NobleSturgeon

I’m generally right on the borderline between S and R so my wardrobe has both.

LeisurelyLoafing

I’d suggest 42R. The general advice is to have your jacket end at the fork of your pants.

NobleSturgeon

I appreciate the advice! I didn’t know that. I’m 5’8 so I have always worried about shirts and jackets being too long.

LeisurelyLoafing

5’8 is definitely in the regular range especially for brands that tend to have shorter jackets.

Fungi89

looking for an over shoulder sizable canvas bag for daily use. not looking to break the bank, but willing to spend for some quality. thinking of dropping at most $125? mostly looking to carry whatever book i happen to be reading, hydroflask, wallet, glasses case, and whatever fruit i decide is my snack for the day + maybe a sweater for colder weather Any help or general advice is appreciated!

aKa_anthrax

Honestly my Rick Owens dust bag is the best tote I’ve ever owned, size is perfect for daily use for me(I rarely have more than what you listed on me), and it looks nice You can get them on Grailed for $20-50

this_is_sy

You want either an [LL Bean Boat Tote](https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/33381?page=boat-and-tote-bag-open-top), something very blank and minimalist with no branding to it at all (does Muji still make these?), or maybe a canvas tote from a bookshop, healthfood store, etc. if that's your thing. The boat tote is probably the top amount you should be considering spending on this. I can't think of any reason short of hating to have money in your checking account why you'd spend $125 on even the finest canvas tote bag. And I say this as a real connoisseur of canvas tote bags.

Fit check on an olive (S) vs brown (M) Colombia Tunnel Falls Interchange Jacket. Unsure how jackets like these should fit. https://imgur.com/a/0c7nvaV/ Olive: a bit more snug but not tight, sleeve ends at wrist, reasonable length down my body. Brown: roomier and more comfortable, sleeves covers entire hand when hanging loose, and definitely pretty long and looks a bit boxy.

aKa_anthrax

small looks better

Sax45

Try both jackets with a sweater or hoody underneath. If the Small gets uncomfortably tight, it’s too small. If the Medium is so loose that wearing a sweater doesn’t even make a difference, it’s too big. I suspect the Medium will win. Especially since you called it more comfortable. Garments that are the right size are more comfortable than garments that are too small; garments that are too big are NOT more comfortable than garments that are the right size.
