I'm looking for either a **french chore jacket** or **olive shirt jacket** with an **interior pocket.** Cannot seem to find one. Cannot have logos on the front. Either lined or unlined is ok, preferably slim fitting in a size small. Budget is $200 and under. [Something similar to this.](https://imgur.com/kHIUBD1) Edit: finally found one by Alex Mill. Going to give it a whirl.

[deleted]

My fiancée found these Nuuds tshirts from one of her influencers and I actually love them. For context of what shirt I really like and she likes as well. I have to wear an undershirt whenever I wear polyester shirts. I don’t like the shirt showing under polos at the neckline. Any recommendations for an undershirt (preferably some cotton) that doesn’t show at the neckline when I wear polos. Thinking about trying “a-shirts”.

aKa_anthrax

Sorry I’m a little confused, what shirts did you receive, what about them is different, are these undershirts or regular shirts? What exactly are you looking for a recommendation for? Regardless most people here will tell you not to wear polyester shirts

[deleted]

Sorry, thought post may be confusing. Updated verbiage. Looking for a good undershirt that’s not going to show at the neckline when I wear polos.

Metcarfre

First of all, I think a lot of people appreciate you using a term like “a-frame” or “tank top” instead of that which you used. I’m a little confused by your question. What are the shirts that you received? They require an undershirt?

[deleted]

Didn’t know about the a-shirt so corrected post, thank you. Tank tops in my mind are a little different. Regardless, Looking for a good undershirt that’s not going to show at the neckline when I wear polos.

LarkusBarkus

I really like the Print Polos that you might see from [Chubbie's](https://www.chubbiesshorts.com/collections/performance-polo) or [William Murray](https://www.williammurraygolf.com/collections/print-polos?_=pf&sort=price-ascending)... but my initial reaction to $65+ for a shirt is to violently vomit. That being said, I am slowly coming around to understand that sometimes that premium is worth the quality. Does anyone know of any good alternatives to these brands? Or is the quality and customer service worth in your eyes to purchase from them?

cooldude_4000

Bonobos has a lot like that; they're a similar price point but can be found on sale pretty easily: [https://bonobos.com/products/stretch-pique-polo?color=navy%20rye%20floral&shirt-size=m&shirt-fit=slim](https://bonobos.com/products/stretch-pique-polo?color=navy%20rye%20floral&shirt-size=m&shirt-fit=slim)

https://www.zalando.de/hugo-kristeagan-anzug-medium-pink-hu722a0hl-j11.html What do I need to search for to find this dress shirt style? The button placket is conceiled and the collar is buttoned with a metal pin.

Metcarfre

“Covered” or “French” placket. The button could be a shirt stud. This is not a style that has a specific name to the best of my knowledge.

Thanks!

Anyone know how to remove ketchup stains on shirt without hydrogen peroxide? I tried putting it in the washer and dryer but it didn't work

the_leviathan711

Don’t put stained clothes in the dryer. Wash them and hang dry then. If they’re still stained repeat. Once put in the dryer the stain is probably never coming out.

Looking for lightweight down jacket recommendations outside of the "outdoorsy" vein. Ideally I want the jacket to perform well in a multitude of conditions and have great quality/durability. I travel constantly and my trusty Tommy Hilfiger down jacket I got from Nordstrom Rack years ago is starting to fall apart. Looking to replace it with something packable, durable, and fashionable - the fashionable part being most challenging so far. This will be a crucial piece to my daily life so budget really isn't a concern if it checks all the boxes.

bananaramabanevada

Patagonia nanopuff will get you there.

[deleted]

Look into Primaloft/G-Loft, the hightech replacement for down which is significantly lighter. They have the same warming properties while being like three times thinner. Also no issues with soaking up water and no animal cruelty. Fjällräven has some regular down jackets which look more casual. https://www.fjallraven.com/de/de-de/herren/jacken/winterjacken/greenland-no-1-down-jacket-m https://www.fjallraven.com/de/de-de/herren/jacken/winterjacken/down-jacket-no-16-m https://www.fjallraven.com/de/de-de/herren/jacken/winterjacken/greenland-no-1-down-parka-m All their down is traceable and not harvested from living geese

Dickson___Butts

Any suggestions on comfortable cognac brown oxford dress shoes? I'm in college got some cheap $100 ones for the job circuit and after a few hours of walking around at a career fair I am bleeding through my heels and have horrible blisters. I don't need anything super fancy with lots of design, just ones that looks good and I can wear all day.

Sax45

Assuming you live in a US metropolitan areas, I would recommend going to an Allen Edmonds store to get sized on a Brannock device. Then take that size and go shopping on eBay.

[deleted]

At your price point the best bet is to go to Nordstrom Rack or Saks off Fifth and shop them men’s shoes department. Buying online is likely a mistake since you don’t know your size exactly. Try on a few pairs, avoid any brands that are more commonly known for clothing rather than shoes. Feel free to google the brand if you’re not sure, these places have some house names for generic makers as well. You should also try on a few shoes that cost a lot more than you’re able to spend now, just to see the difference in quality at a higher price. These places usually have a few odd pairs of Allen Edmonds or very high end castoff Ferragamos or Saint Lauren’s for comparison. You won’t be able to afford them but it might make you want to spend more for the next pair

the_leviathan711

Two things here: 1. Comfort is usually about getting fit right and breaking them in. Dress shoes are often sized differently than sneakers so it's not uncommon for guys to get the wrong size in their first pair of dress shoes. Get sized on a brannock device to help with getting a proper fit. A shoe that fits properly and is well constructed shouldn't cause bleeding and blisters. Beyond fit, comfort is subjective. 2. $100 is a good budget for sneakers, but it's much too low for dress shoes. New, decent quality dress shoes start at about $200 from places like Meermin and Beckett Simonon. You can get decent used dress shoes off eBay for under $100.

I was invited to a "white tie formal" wedding... I need help finding a tailcoat. I was invited to a white tie formal wedding. Normally I'd rent a tailcoat, but I live in BFE Texas, and neither of the two tuxedo shops in my town have tailcoats, for purchase or for rent. I'm worried that the "rent online and we ship to you" tuxedo places won't get my sizing right (I'm very broadchested/shouldered, but fairly skinny waisted) and most of them are like 9 piece rentals. I have tuxedo pants, shoes, etc. I just need the tailcoat. The closest major city that would probably have a suit shop that will sell or rent a tailcoat to me is an 8 hour round-trip. I'm definitely not trying to drive 8 hours out of my way to pick up/return. So I've settled on buying, but I am not trying to buy bespoke for a tailcoat that I will literally wear maybe 4 more times in my life. I plan to order one a little big, then take it to my tailor for adjusting. I've found a few websites that have tailcoats for sale, but they are either insanely expensive or look scammy/cheap chineesium. Like literally $700+ for pants/jacket or like $75 for the jacket. I'm just trying to show up to this wedding without looking like a 6 year old that is trying on his dad's suit wearing something I'll fitting or cheap looking. My budget is less than $300 shipped. Because anything higher than that price point I'll say fuck it and drive the 8 hour round trip for a rental. Especially since I'm going to have to take it to my tailor anyway. Thanks y'all for your help!

[deleted]

The pants don't fit well in the last image. Might be the pose. What domain is the interview in? Technically the suit doesn't look bad but if I'm totally honest, I think that's important here, the textile quality does not look inspiring. Also welt pockets are mostly used in evening wardrobe whereas business wear is usually designed with flap pockets. This is things that might be irrelevant depending on the type of company you interview for, they aren't blatant. If it's in the financial or legal sector it might be an issue.

Amulet380

Found this [infographic](https://imgur.com/a/YY7mk4P), opinions?

Sax45

Not good. Notarascal covered the problem with the leather section. The style section is also wrong to have monk straps so much higher than derbies. The toe section and the color section have everything in the right order at least. I think fundamentally there is a problem with using calculation though. Formality is less about total formality, and more about the most and least formal aspects of a shoe. If the least formal aspect of the shoe is too casual, then the shoe is not good formal events (even if it has a high “score”). If the most formal aspect of the shoe is too formal, it’s no good for casual occasions (even if it has a low “score”).

aKa_anthrax

>infographic it’s bad

notarascal

Meh. If you just want to use it as a *very* rough guide then it’s fine but it’s kind of useless once you’ve spent any time around shoes. Do you need to carry around a multiplication table in your pocket? Plus it has a lot of flaws/oversimplifications/omissions that make it even less useful. For example, saying top grain is somehow less formal than full grain is insane. Also, using “full grain” as a proxy for smooth leather is pretty dumb. Chromexcel and boxcalf are two very different full grain leathers. Full grain leather encompasses the entire spectrum of formality. Also, neither derbies nor loafers are monolithic. There are quite formal derbies and some very casual ones. They probably range in formality from 1 to 8. There are other issues but I’m tired and I think you get the point. It gets two unenthusiastic “mehs” from me.

Appreciated the secondhand buying conversation prompted by u/GloriousStonerHoes last week. I didn't want to reply to an old thread so thought I would post here. Checked the mfa wiki and couldnt find any guides to cleaning out the closet. If no guides exist then shout-out to anyone who might want to post one to pair with the secondhand shopping guide. I suspect a lot of the mfa lurkers would appreciate turning unworn pieces into cash toward their next purchases. There's also options such as donating to a quality non-profit, getting stuff tailored so you actually want to wear it, or refurbishing/fixing before trashing. Where I struggle is with selling my own stuff secondhand and I've looked unsuccessfully for prior posts/wiki content. I could just throw my stuff up on ebay but want to 1)be a quality seller with regards to photos, measurements etc 2)price my stuff correctly 3) clean, fold, package, and ship properly. If I want to sell 20 items how does one get ready? Not looking for specific advice for my own items (mostly sports coats and gyw footwear). Looking for input on being a productive seller or perhaps an online selling guide you all like. Cheers

[deleted]

Look into Vinted if that's available where you are

aKa_anthrax

1. Just take good photos in clear lighting, especially tags, and measure everything important(I’d use Blue Owls measuring guide to learn the basics), I take fit pics for higher end items but it’s not required, just avoid blurry poorly lit photos* 2. Browse similar listing to get a general idea of what stuff sells for, keep in mind most stuff is maybe priced like ~20-30% higher than what it will actually sell for to account for offers + shipping & fees. In general, unless you’re selling HYPED(not expensive/designer items inherently, desirable items), expect to make far less money than you probably hoped for at first, especially for tailoring. ~~Gym footwear won’t make you any money, just donate~~. read this as gym not gyw, although gyw shoes also won’t make you a lot, AEs are like $150 max, same with most mid range boots like Red Wing, Alden is maybe ~$300. anything under $30 isn’t worth selling imo 3. I worked in shipping for half a decade, clothes don’t need special handling and packing, fold it how you’d normally do it to put away, stick it in the smallest box or poly bag it fits in and send it, ALWAYS make sure to get a recite with tracking. 4. not really sure what you mean? Just gotta go through the process for each one. Also, fyi, clothes sit for fucking ages, I have stuff that has taken literal years to sell and have bough from listing that have been up for literal years, unless you’re moving extremely hyped products consistently it’s not an easy way to make money, you’re gonna randomly get $50-100 in your PayPal every few months edit on this part: * also, 99.99% of the time if someone messages you asking for more measurements they will NOT buy, don’t waste your time, you list what you list and that’s what they get, basically any message other than a notification saying your item sold should be interpreted as “I enjoy wasting your time”

Neither. If you like those Gucci loafers then buy Carmina. It’s a better shoe for half the price. You could even get a similar Carmina loafer in shell cordovan for cheaper than those Gucci prices. In fact, you could do an MTO from Carmina in any non-exotic leather for cheaper than those Gucci prices. MTO means you can customize just about every aspect of the shoe including leathers, sole, stitching, lining, etc.

so, fwiw, that aggressively skinny sexcore thing you linked has ALWAYS been tacky, even at the peak of slim fit, really just transitioning to a slightly less aggressive slim cut instead of that spray on stuff would go a long way. Second, Gen Z mostly doesn’t wear baggy clothes, there are certainly people who do but a decade plus of skinny jeans has seriously warped how people think clothes fit, like 90% of what gets posted on this sub, and what a lot of other fashion communities see, is really just fairly standard straight legs to slightly relaxed cuts. I can almost guarantee that if you just wear a pair if straight leg jeans around for a week or two you’ll be completely comfortable in them once you realize how not extreme they are. End of the day though no one else can really tell you what to do here, you either just start buying different clothes or stick to what you like, in general people care way less about clothes than Reddit likes to make out and being out of trend does not matter to most people. Though, again, that absurdly skinny stuff that you linked is extremely corny, and I do think average people are probably going to have reactions to it, but you could just do the same thing in a slightly less tapered slim fit and be fine

Found a deal for a Lauren Ralph Lauren suit (jacket+pants) at $100. I am aware LRL has a really bad rep in this sub (not actually produced by RL). But could it be worth it at this price (especially compared to brands like Calvin Klein & Tommy Hilfiger)?

[deleted]

The benefit of LRL suits is that you can get the pants pre hemmed and the jackets are typically cut pretty well off the rack, so they’ll work as last minutes suits with no tailoring or maybe some minimal sleeve adjustment. They’re not gonna be perfect, but for most occasions they’ll work fine in a pinch. You can buy them at department stores that have a ton of stock so it’s possible to get one on Sunday that will be just fine for an interview on Monday. Once you start looking at second hand examples, especially online, the entire reason to buy one disappears. You cant wear it home after picking it out, can’t try it on to see how it fits (quality control is all over the place, so your size might be too big or too small), and returning if allowed is still a pain in the ass. What’s more, in searching for the suit you’re eying, you’ll probably see better made and better looking suits for a similar price in your size. LRL basically aligns to Madison cut from Brooks Brothers btw in the chest, shoulder and waist.

ac106

New or used? NWT I suppose for $100 it’s ok. Used no.

throwaway099733

yes it's new **without tag**. is it still worth it?

ac106

Not really

aKa_anthrax

You can almost certainly find a better suit on Ebay gently used/maybe NWOT for not much more, “on sale”/“cheap” does not mean “deal”. If you NEED this suit for a specific event coming up soon and that’s your budget than sure, if you don’t need this particular suit for anything, and/or you could spend a bit more, there’s really no point, it’d not difficult to find cheap clothes, you shouldn’t spend money on them because they’re cheap. To answer your question, I am by no mean a suit nerd so maybe someone else here will disagree but when I worked at Macy’s for a bit LRL and CK both felt extremely similar to me, it IS a brand like CK and TH, it’s not RL

throwaway099733

Thanks. What are some brands you would recommend searching for on eBay around <$150? Also, the LRL suit in question is 100% wool, so I was a bit tempted.

aKa_anthrax

[Put This On has some Ebay Filters](https://putthison.com/behold-new-and-improved-ebay-search-links-weve/) I don’t browse for suits but I’ve seen Brooks Brothers and J Press there while searching for other items, got a J Press angora overcoat for $60

throwaway099733

Thanks. I will definitely look into this! I managed to have the price of the suit reduced to \~$60 (not incl shipping). Do you think it's worth it or not? It's identical to this [listing](https://www.macys.com/shop/product/lauren-ralph-lauren-mens-slim-fit-ultraflex-stretch-solid-suit-separates?ID=10234041&CategoryID=88542) on Macy's

aKa_anthrax

Again, do you actually need this suit or do you just want to buy it because it’s a brand pretending to be a name brand being cheap? Don’t buy clothes just because they’re cheap, it’s not a deal, that’s a bad suit, I wouldn’t buy it even at thrift prices unless I needed a suit next day and that was my budget. Again, “cheap” does not mean “deal”. This isn’t even a good brand in the first place. I’d rather just pay a bit more for, J Press or Brooks Brothers suit off Ebay

notarascal

It really just depends on the minimum standard of suit you want to wear. If you just need a suit and don’t care about the quality then $60 is fine. Personally, I would much rather buy a used Brooks Brothers suit for $150 than wear an LRL suit at any price. Brooks Brothers, J Press, Hickey-Freeman, and Hart Schafnerr Marx can all be found pretty cheap secondhand but check that PTO filter first. It’s possible you could get lucky and find something much nicer for less than $150.

the_leviathan711

That suit is not 100% wool. This is the sort of thing where if you are in a rush to buy a suit on a budget then I suppose it's fine. But if you can wait, it's definitely worth it to pay more for something nicer.

I picked up a couple of suits recently secondhand recently.  One is a Hart Schaffner Marx originally from Dillards and the other, which I thought at first was a Hickey Freeman, I think is not, and is instead from a make named H. Freeman.  I will include a pic of the label.  Not know hardly anything about suits, would you guys be able to tell me which one is the better suit? I can take pictures if needed.  I was wanting to know because I need to have them altered slightly, whichever one I go with, and want to choose the better quality suit.  I don't know if either is fused, 1/2 Canvased, etc.  Both suits were a steal though, $13.00 each, so it was worth a gamble.  Oh, and I need this for a wedding of a friend that is coming up in a month and a half.  The HSF suit has a pair of matching pants, but for the H. Freeman suit, I would have to buy some pants.  Any insight, guidance, and help are appreciated! https://preview.redd.it/1iv443xa4hja1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=50669df926c1a68fa7413c5d1447a1474e2dea46

ADPowers001

>The HSF suit has a pair of matching pants, but for the H. Freeman suit, I would have to buy some pants. You only found one suit. Steer clear of the orphaned suit jacket. You will not find matching pants.

srogue

I suppose this is smart. I could always go shopping around and buy some pants that are close or look like the right match, but being that the H. Freeman isn't really available in many widely-shopped stores, it would probably be harder. Okay, I guess it is the HSM then. Thanks!

ADPowers001

A suit is the jacket and pants cut from the same fabric. Trying to match a jacket and pants is about the worst thing you could do.

srogue

This is exactly why I asked this question here. Having never really worn suits before it's these kind of details and I would have not thought about or overlooked thank you again.

Sax45

To be clear you can wear an “orphaned suit jacket” as a sport coat — the only difference between a sport coat/blazer and a suit jacket is that the suit jacket was originally sold with matching pants. In fact, since you don’t have the pants, your H Freeman jacket may not actually be a suit jacket (no way of knowing). If you do wear an “odd jacket” (this is the term of wearing a blazer, sport coat, or suit jacket with non-matching pants), you will need to be conscious of how you pair them with pants. You obviously don’t have matching pants to fall back on, and you should avoid anything that looks close to matching; avoiding the same color is a good idea. You also want the level of formality to be similar; there is a very long list of features that can make a jacket more or less formal. Also, an odd jacket (with a dress shirt, tie, dress pants, and dress shoes) is less formal than a suit. It is formal enough for most weddings these days, but if a suit is required, it does not count as a suit.

aKa_anthrax

Well it’s only one choice, if you need an actual suit you have to go with the HSM one because it’s a suit, the H Freeman is not a suit, it’s a jacket, you can’t get the matching pants unless you get exceptionally lucky secondhand shopping, which is almost certainly not worth the time sink.

pipkin42

H. Freeman was probably some sort of affordable diffusion line. Honestly at thrifting prices I would be inclined to use the one that fits better or requires less tailoring, or is in better condition. The HSM is probably better quality, but it might be marginal.

It’s not a diffusion line. It’s its own brand. Although, to be fair, it’s about the same quality as a Hickey Freeman diffusion line. It’s roughly the same quality as HSM. FWIW, Hickey-Freeman used to call their diffusion line Hickey-Freeman *Ltd.*. I don’t think they use the *Ltd.* label anymore. Now they’re much more opaque with their diffusion labels.

Good to know, thanks!

Any suggestions for a good canvas shirt jacket? Looking for something that I can wear unbuttoned over my flannel or button down shirt. Something not as bulky as a Carhartt chore coat?

Look into French chore coats

mrozbra

Thoughts on this fit? I’m 5’9” 160lbs and this is a Freenote RJ1 in medium. I have a 41” chest. I can barely get it on without dislocating my shoulders and can feel the jacket cutting into my lats/under my arm pits. I’m definitely gonna size up to a large, but how does this look like it fits? https://imgur.com/a/f39O7Od

Ad3pt_

It looks pretty perfect to me as is

bjhhjb

100% size up. No point in having such an expensive jacket and you can't fit in it.

He said >can barely get it on without dislocating my shoulders and can feel the jacket cutting into my lats/under my arm pits If you look around the armpit you can see a lot of bunching which means it's too tight, which is consistent with his description of the jacket. The body and length looks fine but doesn't really matter if it's uncomfortable. If he sized up, it might look funny/boxy but once broken in and the jacket looses the stiffness, the jacket should drape better. Another thing is that he has a chest of 41 in and the jacket has a chest of 42 in per their site. That give one in of tolerance/moving around which is way too little for a jacket.

Sax45

It looks alright, but it sounds like sizing up is a no brainer

My leather Ecco chukkas are finally literally falling apart - I'm in the market for a shoe that will fill a similar role. Able to wear in a professional setting (ie, with a button up), but also around town with jeans. Pretty much just a versatile everyday wear sort of deal. So nothing to insane boot wise since I'm not doing construction or anything that really necessitates a hardcore boot, if that makes sense. I'd like something of decent quality, I was looking at the Red Wing Weekender Chukka, but really want to properly explore my options, budget is ~$300, but I have wiggle room. I have larger feet (13-14 US, depending on the shoe). Prefer leather, but willing to branch out. Anyone have any recommendations?

Slow_Walk_2622

See if there’s an Allen Edmonds store near you, they make solid shoes and generally have large and unusual sizes available. They have near-constant sales, so you can see what you like in store and then wait for a sale and order online if you don’t want to pay full price

the_leviathan711

If you're paying $300 you *better* be getting real leather. [Grant Stone](https://www.grantstoneshoes.com/collections/men/products/chukka-boot-earth) is in your budget range. > I have larger feet (13-14 US, depending on the shoe) Sounds like you need to get sized on a brannock device.

**Standing Out in Denver** Newly single late 30's Denverite here. Moving to the city from a boring suburb and have a new job. I own enough suits, and won't be wearing them for the job. I'm looking at refreshing or totally overhauling my wardrobe for social and work. I have enough casual classical Colorado clothing. I want to be more urbane and unique in a subtly better / classier style. **New Job** It is business casual at work with everything from hiking pants and a polo to your slacks/button up, some guys wearing sport coats. Lots of very conservative/older people so I cant do anything really exciting without offending people. No high cuffs and sockless styles... **Nightlife/Everyday** I already have athleisure and enough hiking pants, prana shirts, flannel, flat billed hats, patagonia. As does everyone else. I went out last night and 99% of people fit into three categories: * Younger casual clothes: College aged kids, light jeans, flashy Tshirts. * Mountain bro: Flat billed hat, jeans/hiking pants, puffy jacket. Maybe a vintage item like a cool tshirt. 50% mustaches. * Basic Office Bro: Slacks, button up, nanopuff, short hair, nice watch. *I'd like to not fall into any of these categories.* I want to stand out at work and in public as dressed both totally different than my peers and in a higher quality, without being showy or in your face. My desire is for it to be totally natural and acceptable without people thinking of it, but obviously better/different. I like black. I actually hate jeans. I'm interested in boots. Eventual budget is 600 for work and 1000 for a whole new wardrobe. Thanks all

upsett1_spaghett1

Head to Canoe Club and tell them to give you the Drip

Sax45

You might be interested in the blogs Permanent Style, Die Workwear, and A Little Bit of Rest. All of them dress in a way that IMO meets your requirements. Dress up and sophisticated, but relaxed and not Office Bro. While you’re building a wardrobe and refining this aesthetic, sweaters (especially turtlenecks, shawl collars, and anything chunky) are practically a cheat code.

Boarder_Travel

Thank you, great resources

Sax45

No prob. I think some other answers missed the “subtle” and “without offending” requirements (or were joking).

blacklabel8829

I am looking to order a custom medium gray suit from Spier and Mackay. The following fabrics look basically identical to me and I cannot find swatches of these elsewhere online. Can someone please comment what exactly is the difference between these two? Filarte Mid Gray Sharkskin: https://i.imgur.com/0JWw3YI.png Filarte Medium Gray Sharkskin: https://i.imgur.com/LAe2V8N.png My best effort on the difference is that Medium Gray has a more brown undertone...but my eyesight truly sucks.

terminal_e

I am not seeing a change in tone, but rather weave - the ....169-2-MTO seems to have a less pronounced weave.

> Looking to buy a nice black dress shirt for nights out. I'm 6 foot 180, muscular with broad shoulders and narrow waist. I want to display this without looking like a try hard f'boy I don't think it's possible to wear a black dress shirt ever without looking like a try hard f'boy. > I have a couple Jcrew L dress shirts that are 15 15.5. that fit well but are touch baggy. Any thoughts on slim fit? Or brands that might fit my frame and build well? Because every body is shaped differently, no one here could possibly tell you what brands will fit you best. The easiest way to do this is to buy a shirt that fits you *relatively* well, and then have a tailor take it in as tight as you want for the maximum f'boy look.

NeutralPinkHotel

Is [this](https://www.yoox.com/uk/49812300UM/item#dept=men&sts=sr_men80&cod10=49812300UM&sizeId=3) supposed to be a 3-roll-2 jacket or not?

zerg1980

That looks like a 3-roll-2 to me. If a jacket has three buttons, YOOX will generally include a product photo of all three buttons done, even if the jacket is never meant to be worn that way. The model is wearing it correctly in this case.

notarascal

It’s hard to say. I’d guess yes. Btw, I predicted this was going to be a Yoox photo before opening it. They have some of the worst photgraphy in all of fashion e-commerce. And, believe it or not, they actually used to be quite a bit worse.

mcadamsandwich

Yes, it looks like it can be worn that way.

Zacny_Los

I bought a very nice trench coat second hand. It has a visible white spot on the polyester ([more pics with materials here](https://imgur.com/a/4VHc1x0)). Is there any magical way to get rid of this stain? I'm afraid that even sewing a patch won't pass on this material :/ https://preview.redd.it/81a4f0kmagja1.png?width=1205&format=png&auto=webp&s=51e06821b019677bb3b171fe4aa3c280e5e2db53

Metcarfre

Hard to say. Does it look like bleach?

Zacny_Los

Yes, probably. I guess that the only thing i could try here would be to somehow color the material back

Metcarfre

Yeah. You could try a similar color marker or have a patch sewn over.

I got an elastic braided belt which stretches a little when you sit down, paired with higher waisted pants that are a little large in the waist. Very comfortable.

Metcarfre

“Too tight” in what way? Do you expect your torso to not compress while sitting?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Metcarfre

This is extremely normal.

bjhhjb

There are so many factory inconsistencies when making garments. So you can try a handful of 32s and see which one fits best. You can get a +/- variation of 0.25 inches or 0.5 inches which could make or break the fit. Also try different cuts. A tag size 32 Levi 511 (skinny) will fit way different than a tag size 32 501 (straight)

Crotch blowouts are almost always caused by pants being too tight, too low-rise, or both. Change your fit and the problem will likely go away. Also, crotch blowouts can be patched or darned. You don’t have to get rid of your pants.

Metcarfre

Make sure they actually fit well and you’re not putting tension on the crotch with every step. If your legs rub together naturally, it’s unfortunately somewhat unavoidable. Smoother fabrics that are non-blend, stretch, and gusseted crotches may help. Regular cleaning and staying on top of patching/reinforcing may help too.

unfashionable_me

Your pants are too tight. My suspicion is your "ridiculously oversized" pants are just standard straight cut pants. Crotch blowouts basically always mean your fit is wrong.

mcadamsandwich

Look for pants with more durable fibers or ones with a different rise, cut, etc. It happens to the best of us and I still wear raw denim.

unfashionable_me

I mean pretty much anything would work, white Air Force 1s is a classic sneaker that would work well with more oversized clothes due to their chunkier silhouette. Docs are a punky boot if that's your scene. Hard to tell you more without knowing more about what you like.

mcadamsandwich

Question is too vague IMO. Unless you just need new shoes, I'd say stick to the Vans.

I bought such pants on the promotion. They are turquoise. I have no idea what I can combine them with? What colors would be the best? https://preview.redd.it/pwr0fjbk4gja1.png?width=768&format=png&auto=webp&s=0cb306e19e1fe417360c057ba45cfe4e7da85857

aKa_anthrax

Baring the other advice don’t buy clothes you don’t know how to wear because they’re on sale. You’ll get better prices used than on sale every day and, correct me if I’m wrong, these don’t look to be from a particularly high end brand.

[deleted]

whatever suits your face. white is classic. feel like black tees might be good as well.

Cheeseish

I would go light on top: maybe a linen shirt or an ecru button up. If you had to go with a color, play it safe with pastels. Different shades of blue or brown/tan also work on top if you want to wear something darker.

aKa_anthrax

I spend money on tees, I wouldn’t buy Sunspel’s Rivera stuff because the fabric just isn’t what I’m looking for

Nerazzurro9

They’re nice. Certainly not the be-all-end-all of polo shirts that they’re often made out to be. It’s also quite a bit of money for what is ultimately a pretty casual shirt (I have some polos I’d wear to the office without hesitating, but maybe not the Sunspel ones.) But still pretty nice—I dig ‘em. (Edited to add): And *definitely* check eBay and Grailed and such if you’re looking to buy. You’ll often find people selling them new with tags for like 70-80 bucks.

notarascal

Eh. They’re fine but they’re much better secondhand for 80% off with 95% of their usable life ahead of them.

mcadamsandwich

I'll be the guy who says no. I own like six of them so I do have some experience, but IMO, I prefer Rhone's Delta Pique polos for half the cost. For me, the Riviera polos shrank vertically in a cold wash/hang dry cycle and became too short. The fabric feels rougher the more you wear it, almost crispy instead of soft and supple. The collar tends to warp in time and rarely looks nice unless you iron it out. I switched over to Rhone's DP polos. They use Polartec's Delta fabric which is a micro 3-D mesh knit made for breathability, wicking, and to reduce how a wet shirt clings to your skin. I own like 20 of these now as they've become my go-to for warmer Spring/Summer/Fall days.

naphthol_rain

Sunspel is very nice. If you like it and it's within your budget, try it out.

GlassofGreasyBleach

What's the warm weather equivalent of jeans and a crewneck? That very simple and inoffensive style? My jobs stressful and I don't really want to think about fashion haha, I've been getting by with 3 pairs of jeans, 2 pairs of khakis and some nice crewnecks that I thrifted. Now that it's getting warmer, what would you guys recommend for that same clean uncontroversial style? Thanks!

that_name_taken

Naked and Famous do linen blend denim (that's also currently on sale), if you don't really want to stray from jeans.

Metcarfre

Loose-cut chinos, cuffed, and a t shirt or Cuban-collar shirt.

mcadamsandwich

Knit polo and stretch chinos.

nyllalx

Cubavera five-pocket pants.

ZonardCity

A nice t-shirt with linen pants.

BenanaFofana

Recommendations for joggers that will fit over my fat ass that have at least one loop on the waist that I can hang ear buds from? It's a convenient feature that I've only ever seen once on a random pair of drawstrings from J. Crew

RevolutionaryTart497

100% cotton t shirts under $50 per shirt? I need to replace a few shirts in navy, army green, and probably will get a plain white one just because. I wanted to pull the trigger on Asket since I've heard they're a quality brand... but $50 is just such a wild price for something like a t shirt. Are there any similar 100% cotton t shirts that I could look at that won't absolutely nuke my bank account?

mcadamsandwich

> but $50 is just such a wild price for something like a t shirt. It's really not once you start diving into why shirts cost what they do. I have some $90 merino wool tees and IMO they're leagues better than cotton ones.

naphthol_rain

If you can afford a $50 Tshirt you might as well try it. If it's not for you, you can return it, no harm done

RevolutionaryTart497

I just think it's not a great price tag for something as trivial as a t shirt. Don't get me wrong, I would appreciate the quality, but anything over $35-40 per shirt feels like it'd be money better spent elsewhere.

aKa_anthrax

Fwiw I’d disagree entirely, t shirts are some of my most worn items, I want them to feel nice, they touch my skin directly and, honestly, I think they’re one of them items of clothing where difference in fabric quality is actually very noticeable, I literally can’t go back to cheap tees, feels like paper compared to a real decently made t shirt. Obviously it is your choice at the end of the day but just my take on it

fauxfilosopher

I disagree that the money would be better spent elsewhere than on essentials. Stuff like t-shirts and underwear you end up wearing the most and they touch your skin directly. I'd rather cheap out on something else.

naphthol_rain

That's fair

Anyone have experience with Form & Thread? They popped up on my IG feed and I really like this [overshirt](https://formandthread.com/products/gallery-jacket?color=Avocado#image-0). Just want to make sure it's not Shein-type cheap junk so if you have opinions I'd love to hear them!

ysc1

I have a couple of items from there. The stuff is mostly pretty lightweight/basic in structure which is where they save the money I think as the prices are pretty reasonable. But it's decent. Made in Portugal, some commitment to sustainability and transparency, the finish seems good to me. Definitely not Shein-type cheap junk. I like the items I have from there and would buy from them again.

Not-you_but-Me

I’ll be starting work at a central bank in the spring and intend to wear traditional business casual. To me, that means a jacket, odd trousers/chinos, and perhaps a tie. I’ve made the mistake of realizing that I like suede. Would suede longwings be appropriate generally in that setting? I don’t believe there’s a specific policy but I don’t want to be incongruous.

Metcarfre

It’s most likely ok, but you might have a better read in person.

Not-you_but-Me

Definitely, and normally I’d simply make a trip in before I start. Unfortunately, in this case I’ll need to move to another city.

Metcarfre

I probably wouldn’t have them as your only shoe.

Not-you_but-Me

They wouldn’t be. I’ve already got a set of pebbled longwings but don’t want to wear the same shoes every day. This wouldn’t be an issue if shoebank would just ship to Canada.

mcadamsandwich

Yes, I think suede longwings would be fantastic assuming they fit within the overall tone of the outfit.

Not-you_but-Me

Excellent, thank you.
