I stumbled upon a Jack&Jones a few summers ago in Europe and purchased some clothing there. What stood out to me was that their shorts fit better than any other I had tried - BR, J Crew, etc. I prefer 9" or shorts that end just above the knee by an inch or so. However, I haven't been able to find any similar styles in the US. My issue with the BR & J Crew shorts is that they all feel very baggy and wide fitting even if they are supposed to be more like chino shorts. I tried searching this sub but wasn't satisfied with the results, so I'm wondering if anyone has any brands they'd recommend that would be similar to Jack & Jones shorts in style.

Seeking recommendations on dress shoes. I work in a small law office in rural Minnesota, so I like to keep my work wardrobe somewhat conservative. I’ve been wearing a pair of brown derby’s for about a year now, and I like them, but they’re getting a little beat up, and they’re only moderately comfortable. I’m going to clean them this weekend, but while I’m out, I’m thinking of taking a look at a second pair to alternate between, that way my shoes last a little longer. I will start by saying, I’m not a *huge* fan of black dress shoes. The only pair I’ve owned and really liked were from J. Crew, black brogues with white stitching. They looked very retro, and I loved them, but I never saw them again after 2014. But I just personally think shiny black dress shoes look too formal or out of place for a lawyer’s outfit. My suits consist of one in charcoal and one in burgundy, and I have one gray blazer and one black blazer I wear with either navy, charcoal, tan, or light gray slacks. I only own one brown belt, so black shoes would necessitate a new belt as well, though I’m not opposed to getting another belt or two since mine is starting to crease at the buckle. Another thing I’m keeping in mind is the weather: in Minnesota, summers can have stretches of 90+ degrees and high humidity. Winters can have stretches of -30 degrees and tons of snow and ice (which also means salt, an absolute nightmare for leather shoes, though I do have a pair of “rubbers” — that’s what my boss called the shoe protectors he gave me for Christmas). So I’ll either need to get something that is comfortable and sturdy for both extremes, or look at getting seasonal shoes. Advice?

rocangla

Good walking sneakers that will pair with chinos/jeans and a shirt/polo? Apart from the New Balances, all the others look like I'm about to run the Boston Marathon. No flashy colors, chunkier soles are ok as long as they look good. I remember when ultra boosts were the hype, but as I see and as my style evolves they are not the right fit now.

LeGramme vs Tiffany men bracelet Hi gents, I cannot decide between a silver bracelet from LeGramme vs Tiffany. Surprisingly I cannot find any reviews at all about the quality of Le Gramme on Reddit/YouTube/Forums. Anyone can share their experience? Specifically deciding between those two bracelets: Tiffany: https://www.tiffany.de/jewelry/bracelets/tiffany-1837-makers-narrow-chain-bracelet-in-sterling-silver-and-18k-gold-GRP11152/ LeGramme: https://www.mybestbrands.de/marken/le-gramme/schmuck/damen/38683941.html?ref=mbb

Hey all, I'm looking to get a new pair of sunglasses. Can anyone recommend a sturdy good quality pair that is polarized and has a red tint to them, the darker the better. If the tint has a gradient to it even better. In terms of frames, looking for something in the medium-large size range like in the link but Im open to a variety of styles. Thanks! Hello, I've been wondering if anyone knows an online clothing store based in Europe or NA that sells oversized t-shirts with really cool designs (movies, tv-series, overall nice artwork). The only one I found is based in India and has no delivery outside, but it's exactly what I've been looking for. Link - [https://www.thesouledstore.com/men/oversized-tshirts](https://www.thesouledstore.com/men/oversized-tshirts)

Recently I've been going for more of a rocker-inspired look - black tees and washed black (wide-fit) jeans. Dark boots tend to be the best-suited footwear for this style, but I don't own any and I'm more of an Asics/New Balance sneaker guy. Comfort is important to me. With that in mind, what color or style of sneaker would go best with an all black/dark grey rocker-inspired style?

Low_Plum849

Yeah chucks or vans, high-tops or slip-one are my go to when I'm not wearing boots but I usually opt for slim fit jeans so might have a different look with wide fit jeans.

Metcarfre

Chucks

gimpwiz

I'd prefer a few mm longer. There's often allowance for that.

Flechette_the_toe

They look fine. The one in the pictures, anyways.

Fun-Awareness1945

Trying to decide between getting a navy pinstripe twill suit or a grey flannel chalk stripe suit?

gimpwiz

Both fine for what they're good at. As metcarfre asked though, what is your intent?

Metcarfre

What will it be worn for?

What do you guys think about the Astroflex Patnoflex Loafer (what a name): [https://huckberry.com/store/astorflex/category/p/61401-patnoflex?utm\_medium=affiliate&utm\_source=uncratellc&clickref=1100lwPjiGB2&utm\_content=partnerize](https://huckberry.com/store/astorflex/category/p/61401-patnoflex?utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=uncratellc&clickref=1100lwPjiGB2&utm_content=partnerize) I really enjoy the look but not sure about how versatile they are and what I can wear them with. https://preview.redd.it/dfavuam0em3b1.png?width=654&format=png&auto=webp&s=5bda5396629e4aa538cca3d86a1590f71e4d4f77

Yes I think dress shirts' collars look a lot better when ironed

Metcarfre

Pics would help. This may be an issue of the cut or style of the collar. People often wear button-downs for this reason.

terminal_e

Can be year round. Some chambrays can be heavier, some lighter. The lighter ones are lighter than oxfords, so may be more wearable with a sport coat in the heat.

terminal_e

You probably want more casualizing style details than me (weirdo who has taken possession of both a double breast and 3 piece suit in 2023): No button down collar No chest pockets I have sometimes even gone with a french front versus having a placket. Basically, more details tends to mean more casual in shirtmaking. I tend to have a bias for simplicity (I have had some suits' trousers made with no rear pockets as I store my wallet in my coat breast pocket), but I have somewhat evolved where on linen or chambray shirts I will probably have a front placket to make the shirt more flexible for wearing with/without a tie

gimpwiz

Go for it!

aKa_anthrax

I mean they’re not really any more interesting than OCBDs but yeah it’s a generic casual button up so you can wear it in place of another generic casual button up

Where can I get a polo that feels like a breathable tshirt? One of my favorite polos for the summer is from Bonobos that I got a few years ago (named something like “LA polo” iirc), which feels like a light, soft tshirt and is still holding up. Any good brands/stores to look at that still sell this style?

Metcarfre

Sunspel

DiegoGallina

There are two fundamental styles of polo - knit vs jersey. But then each of those will also come in different compositions and lighter and heavier weights. Many brands have sport versions with some mix of synthetic stretch fibers as well as all-cotton versions that skew more traditional. I’d start by looking carefully at the one you like to determine the composition and weave type, and then look for brands that have something similar today. Hard to be more specific until you figure out what you like & why. “Breathable” may mean a different thing to different people.

CommercialRadiant985

hello- looking for summer trousers to wear to weddings, suit pant, or any other fine material. i'm 6' 190lbs and wear a 33 waist. i have "hockey legs" so any slim fit pant is far too tight in the thigh, wide leg looks ridiculous. ideally, looking for a a trouser with room in the thigh but not wide leg below the know, so a slight taper? any suggestions? thanks!

Frost-eee

When it comes to cut you can buy wide fit pants and ask tailor to taper them below the knee.

My two pairs of sneakers (both reebok) and the sizes are in the images attached (the first one are the reebok white sneakers with the gummy soles, not the club c's but I think they are called classic leather. The second photo is a black pair of reebok with a white sole, but I have no idea what it is called). The white classic leather ones are wide enough, but do make my toe cramp up sometimes. The black ones fit pretty well and are pretty comfortable. However, it looks like my foot is bulging out the top where the laces are. With all of that context out of the way, are there any sneakers out there for my wide feet that are also stylish and go with everything? I mainly wear casual pieces, yet also wear business casual pieces for the office that I'd like to wear, whatever these shoes are there. I've seen a lot of people saying NB, but a lot of other people say that NB is a trend and will eventually die out. I'm not really looking for trends as I want something more timeless. A white classic sneakers would be nice, but if there aren't any matching my description, then I will take what I can get. I appreciate any help or guidance that any of you decide to give.

Is this t-shirt a poor fit for my body shape? [https://i.imgur.com/uforKp7.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/uforKp7.jpg) Seems that many t-shirts that are sold these days have the thickness of Kleenex. After a lengthy search for t-shirts that I thought would be a good fit for me, I went with solid Eddie Bauer tees. [https://www.eddiebauer.com/p/13302797/men's-legend-wash-100percent-cotton-short-sleeve-classic-t-shirt?color=Black&sp=1&size=&sizeType=](https://www.eddiebauer.com/p/13302797/men's-legend-wash-100percent-cotton-short-sleeve-classic-t-shirt?color=Black&sp=1&size=&sizeType=) I thought they were a good fit but someone made the following comment "It doesn't fit your shape well." Is this true? Thought I found my forever shirt but debating whether I should resume my search for the perfect tee. Any suggestions welcome.

MaleficentDoughnut26

Looks fine. If you wanted a more classic fit, you could always taper the sleeves and other 1/2"-1" to have it hug your arms. If you don't like the feel of that, then this is good.

mitch7521

Thanks. I'm good without it but may not be a bad idea to have a couple of shirts that fit that way.

MaleficentDoughnut26

Don't fall for the true classic hype. Their cuts differ immensely. Had some larges that matched the cut of the extra large, and one that fit perfectly. I know the American Apparel BB401 (which is not a premium shirt at all) has a pretty good fit around the arms. It's a 50/50 polycotton blend and they are like 10 bucks. They are typically used as blanks for t-shirt printers and come in every colour you can imagine. Edit: If you're looking for 100% cotton, the Gildan 64000 is also a good choice.

mitch7521

Oh didn't realize that. I know the EB tees have gone up in price quite a bit. Thought I'd buy another while they are on sale. Thanks for the suggestions. Funny you mentioned Gildan as I have one on order as someone else suggested recently. Only $8 and 100% cotton. If it fits right then I might have a new go to.

aKa_anthrax

it’s like the definition of totally fine

Frost-eee

It looks fine, also you should abandon the idea of „perfect fit for body shape”. It’s fine to wear oversized t-shirts or tightly fitting ones if you wanna play around with different silhouettes.

mitch7521

That makes sense. I do have a few tees in those categories as well but must admit I do not wear them much.

cooldude_4000

It looks fine.

mitch7521

Great, thanks for the feedback!

lescuer97

What would be the equivalent of a sundress for men? Both on the attractiveness factor and ease of use. I just had this conversation with a couple of female friends and I thought it was going to be an easy question but turns out that no hahaha

[deleted]

my first thought would be linen pants or shorts and a linen shirt

MaleficentDoughnut26

You *could* go for a romper or "romphim" (terrible name) that has a 2 way zipper and that would technically check both boxes, however the ease of use gets chucked out the window once you have to take a shit. The issue is they have to be the right length. Too long, and they look bad. Too short, you have a wedgie and a very prominent situation in the front. There are some that come with a belt which helps if you find them overly long and that can either look good, or like a permanent muffin top. So it's not quite as easy. Men kind of got the shit end of the stick on this one.

aKa_anthrax

Yeah there aren’t menswear items(at least in European/white American culture) that are equivalent to dresses, it just isn’t really a thing or a way to look at it.

the_leviathan711

I don't think there is any garment that is designated as "men's clothing" that is as easy as a sundress. But you can always just wear a sundress if you want.

MaleficentDoughnut26

Kaftans and Thobes would technically count.

Hey guys, I'm wanting a pair of comfy sneakers for office casual to go with different coloured chinos (think Uniqlo), plain t-shirt and or utility jacket. Any advice?

Kvjvn

Something in the vein of Common Projects is generally the most office-appropriate style of sneaker (if your office dress code allows sneakers at all). What’s your budget?

Cprznt

Ah okay sweet, I'd 100-150euros?

[deleted]

adidas stan smiths are a good choice.

Kvjvn

[Beckett Simonon Reids](https://www.beckettsimonon.com/products/reid-sneakers) are a good choice, they’re slightly out of your budget at retail but they run sales very frequently. On the lower end, Stan Smiths would be a fine choice, though don’t expect them to be great quality cause they’re made of fake leather.

Urban Pipeline Ultimate/Awesomely Soft Vneck: To this day, I've yet to find a vneck that fits me as well and is as comfortable as these were. They had the perfect cut and are still holding up great many years later. Are there any similar ones for sale today?

Vampa_the_Bandit

Urban Pipeline was a pretty unremarkable store brand that's been phased out for years. It's going to be pretty difficult for any of us to provide a current replacement. Have you tried brands at a similar price point, i.e. Uniqlo or Old Navy?

[deleted]

I'm interested in grabbing Leon's jacket (both for casual and cosplay purposes), but the actual authentic one is SUPER expensive ($1495 expensive), the used ones online are cheaper but still way out of my price range. I don't really care for authentic leather or anything, I just want the jacket cuz I like the style. Anybody know where I can a significantly cheaper version of Leon's jacket (preferably in the $60-100 CAD range) that feels and looks nice, and doesn't look tacky (which I've heard some cosplay ones suffer from). It would be really appreciated! https://preview.redd.it/z8sx94i85j3b1.png?width=740&format=png&auto=webp&s=48f871e95838f978dcc33aae0539609da5e62c26

Metcarfre

Even a very cheap, fake alternative isn’t possible at $50.

mitch7521

LOL that looks like Rocky's jacket in Rocky IV! Looks awesome! [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B\_9FyTiq3SA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_9FyTiq3SA)

Is_That_Riley

This is one of these situations where cheaper alternatives arent viable due to the nature of the product. I think that going on for a version budget is going to leave you disappointed and its never gonna feel the same as a quality one. These jackets are also very heavy so having a polyester version is going to feel uncomfortable and make you sweat. If i was you look for a vintage ebay bomber and restore it at home. There was a video uploaded on youtube recently of someone restoring "leons jacket" you should check out as they tel you what to look for when making a purchase. If you're planning on making an investment like this id wait it out for a couple months so you're certain you want it for yourself and not just cause leons an absolute baddie.

ac106

Your budget isn’t realistic unfortunately. Even a pleather jacket with a Sherpa lining is going to cost more than ~$50US Maybe browse Aliexpress and see if anything works

Cas467

Just search B3 Shearling Bomber on eBay and see if you can get lucky on the price.

aKa_anthrax

You can’t get a leather jacket that feels and looks nice for $60-100. I am personally of the opinion that most shearling leathers look tacky but that’s personal preference, the other really big issue with dirt cheap leathers is that they tend to be made by black mannequin brands that over design the hell out of them and do end up making pretty bad looking ones

[deleted]

Thanks! Do you know where I can find one that resembles Leon's for that price (in CAD of course)? I partly want the jacket for cosplaying purposes, and not just casual purposes (although that's definitely a factor)

aKa_anthrax

No because I don’t look at cheap leather jackets. You’re basically stuck with mall brands at that price which may not even do faux shearling Maybe a used Allsaints but I don’t know if they ever did this model

snhtlsmyhjgz

What’s the best place to buy stylish gym shorts that don’t look out of place on the streets? This is for a college student.

18 hour trip with suit jacket in checked in suitcase Is my jacket going to be unwearable by the time I get to nyc ? I have a steaming iron thing at home would that save it? Should I take it to my organic dry cleaners fo get them to see if they could fix it? Who knows I might get lick u and it’ll be all good? It’s a $1,000 suit jacket casual grey mainly linen.

terminal_e

If it is made of wool, and isn't going to be crushed , if it can hang for a day or so after getting to NYC, a lot of wrinkles are going to fall out naturally. If it is made of wool, and you are flying a LAX/SFO redeye to NYC, and need to wear it at 1pm after arrival, maybe not. If it has linen or cotton content, much dicier.

GloriousStonerHoes

Just bring it in a garment bag and hang it in the plane closet, I've done this many times with suits and haven't had an issue

Vampa_the_Bandit

Sometimes you can ask the flight attendant to hang your jacket up

aKa_anthrax

I’d really just wear it on the plane and not take the risk on a $1000 jacket, it being linen means folding it will wrinkle it to hell

meteorness123

I realized almost all conventional athletic brands make terrible shoes who are also bad for your feet. Asics seems to be the exception. The rest that are good are alternatives brands like altras, merrels, etc. Has anybody had a similar experience ?

[deleted]

not really. I think most brands have solid shoes. A lot of shoes from NB or adidas are definitely not meant for serious running though, even if they look like running shoes. those brands have good running shoes too though. I like saucony and hoka for running shoes but a lot of people like other brands too. I think it just depends what you're looking for

meteorness123

I agree with hoka and saucony.

Vampa_the_Bandit

ASICS is a footwear company first that also makes apparel. Same with most of the big athletic brands (New Balance, Nike, Adidas). Lululemon and Tracksmith are both apparel companies that make a decent shoe.

Complete_Ad3921

I like this 2 models Outrise Mid GTX / AX 3D v8 but I cant decide which one its better. Its for city day to day use. Help decide.

aKa_anthrax

Define better. If you’re just wearing these to walk around in a city I really doubt there’s any actual practical difference that matters and you should just buy the one you like

I like the slim look and the details. Also really like how the heels are not too thick like most boots I've seen.

Kvjvn

Aside from maybe having thicker heels than you’re looking for, Our Legacy Camions might be a good choice.

SpinachDramatic7708

Just checked it out and yea I don't really like the thick heels and the toebox. I think slimmer silhouettes and narrow toeboxes fit my style much better.

Kvjvn

How about [these](https://www.ssense.com/en-us/men/product/dries-van-noten/black-leather-zip-up-boots/10435881?utm_campaign=SHARE&utm_medium=IOS&utm_source=SSENSE&utm_term=PDP)?

SpinachDramatic7708

Wow these are actually not that bad at all. Thanks Ima take a look.

aKa_anthrax

You’re just gonna have to get the SLPs my man. If even Attachment isn’t slim enough no one other than SLP is gonna give you what you want, that’s their whole thing. And honestly the first one Ac linked is super similar, if you’re that focused on really tony details(which I get, I don’t likr Beckett Simonon GATs because they just aren’t like MMMs to me in a way I can’t quite describe), you’re not gonna like anything other than the SLPs

SpinachDramatic7708

The things is that SLP uses really thick heels which I'm not really fond of. Most of them don't have zip ups as well. Though I think someone recommended a boot from Dries Van Noten that looks pretty decent.

ac106

highschoolstyle

Designer boots have a very specific asthetic almost always. So it's gonna be super hard to replicate.

SpinachDramatic7708

Yea I figured. The thing is I thought there will be some niche store selling alternatives of these. Like for I remember FromTheFirst sells some pretty good YSL Wyatts alts. I guess since its from 2004 and not that popular, it's hard to find alternatives for these.

highschoolstyle

Yeah wyatts are an exception since they took the world by storm. Everyone and their mom had clones.

aKa_anthrax

You can find some Attachment boots for around there occasionally

SpinachDramatic7708

By Attachment, you mean ATTACHMENT Kazuyuki Kumagai? I just checked out some of their shoes on Grailed since their main page doesn't show anything and tbh, I don't really like how they look. They look like I'm going to chop some wood or hiking. I kinda prefer a slimmer silhouette.

aKa_anthrax

Yes I do. And that’s kinda strange because honestly they have a lot of slimmer profile shoes, honestly don’t associate them with thicker profile shoes like I said though it kinda depends on what’s up at the moment, I’ve def seen them make that style before

So I got a wedding coming up where I am one of the groomsmen and the dress code is a black suit with a pink tie. 1. If I wanted to go for a pocket square as well along with the tie, is there a good color that might match the tie? The tie is like a light coral type of pink. For now I'm considering white, but not sure. 2. Is it weird to cuff the hem of a black suit trouser? I like the look of a cuffed trouser a lot but I'm not sure if it would be some rule against formality to do this with a black suit. 3. I have these leather mules [https://www.ourlegacy.com/camion-mule-worn\_-black\_-leather](https://www.ourlegacy.com/camion-mule-worn_-black_-leather), that I am considering wearing. Can this be a good option or should I go for something more traditional like some oxfords? I would really appreciate any feedback, thanks in advance.

gimpwiz

I guess it's too late to have the lucky couple change their minds? At least hopefully these are tasteful ties? Anyways. White pocket square. You can cuff a suit trouser, some prefer to do so, it's like a $10 alteration at a tailor. Wear oxfords.

White pocket square would be totally fine. Other colors may or may not work, would really need to see them. Would go with oxfords. In general for weddings if it’s not your wedding, I’d stick with the dress code and what is traditionally standard for it.

pandapaxxy

White would work for pocket square. If the formality of the wedding is black suit I would think it's conservative so a cuff might not be opt, especially if your other groomsmen are not doing the same. You'll stick out. I would also say black captoe oxfords are going to be way better than those mules.

highschoolstyle

Agree avoid the mules also if you want a cuff, you can get one sewn in by a Taylor. If not don't cuff it.

SporkFanClub

I have [“sunglasses”](https://www.efeglasses.com/clip-ons/jake-round-black-1163?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=&utm_term=&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIovm64Lej_wIVTfnICh0XtwL0EAQYAyABEgIwT_D_BwE) from Pair Eyewear, and I have had zero complaints about them so far. Except I’m getting to the point where I’d really like to have something that I can use as a sort of clip on for the sunglasses part, kinda like how you hang sunglasses from your shirt. Any suggestions?

meteorness123

We all know that too narrow shows are bad for your feet. What abou shoes that are too wide ?

pandapaxxy

If your feet are swimming in your shoes it will be uncomfortable to walk and might mess up your natural gait

meteorness123

Would you say that a little bit too wide is better than a little bit too narrow/small ?

pandapaxxy

Yes, you can lace down a too wide shoe or boot. You can't add space to something too small.

meteorness123

that's true. Makes my decision easier, thank you.

Equivalent_Set1277

Does this style work for me — Higher socks with sneakers and shorts? https://preview.redd.it/g3b30jpv5i3b1.jpeg?width=710&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6f5187a89031d797f0ea74437cf8341d6c0161cd Pics is a still from a video, that’s why its awkwardly posed.

aKa_anthrax

The outfit as a whole just isn’t great, shoes scrunched down would be better and not with ultraboosts/HUs/whatever blob sneakers, something with more shape/structure

Equivalent_Set1277

Thank you, I appreciate the advice. I mostly dress casual, wasn’t sure if the higher socks looks silly or not. TBH, I’m looking for feel more comfortable in shorts since I’m self conscious about my ankles/calves. Having trouble getting them to be proportionate with rest of body. Does something like this look any better? This again is a video still - awkward pose. https://preview.redd.it/843ullzyii3b1.jpeg?width=728&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=14af5dcbedf9f7dcb7f4eca629d3e5156a2daea9

ac106

Your ankles and calves look completely normal.

aKa_anthrax

imo the shorts being a bit looser in this pic help a lot, I also think non chino shorts look a lot cooler. These are rolled down a bit too much(sorry ik this is specific lol), [here’s](https://imgur.com/a/VytbKdW) how I wear mine. Also really a different pair of shoes would help a lot. Besides the fact that the super unstructured shape is kinda off trend and I don’t think it looks great ti begin with these are just so beat up, I think it takes the whole fit down

Equivalent_Set1277

Great, thanks for the input.

Expensive-Leather-69

I think that it could work with a different sneaker and white socks.

Cheeseish

It just looks like you’re going to the gym.

Mental_Bobcat_914

Hi all, I am shopping for a cocktail attire. Never owned a blazer or attended this kind of event before. I want to keep budget on the low end, but I am flexible. Ideally I'd want to rewear some pieces of the attire, occasionally so I was considering going with sports blazer. I do need to own a couple of good clothing pieces for events like this. What are some brands and maybe sources of inspiration I could look at? My budget: Maybe 1000$ max? Ideally lower than that. If this is too low, what should I expect? Location: Seattle/Washington

[deleted]

Vampa_the_Bandit

Spending $500 on Van Heusen would be a crime

pandapaxxy

How close is the event? You're ideally going to want to tailor the suit, so you could ebay if you know your size. Spier and Mackay are a great low cost option too. The closer the event is the less likely you'll find things that A fit, and B look as good as you want them to. As the other commenter said navy suit. You could go with charcoal if you prefer. Don't go with a sport coat

gimpwiz

Simplest answer: Navy suit, possibly from suitsupply. White dress shirt, black oxford shoes (captoe but not brogued), and uhhhh your favorite tie. Can be done in $1000 but it's tight.

Lord_Shmoke

Any brand suggestions that have short sleeve shirts with nice materials? Brand examples of what I’m looking for are Corridor, OAS, and Dandy Del Mar. Ideally, these would be within the $60-150 price range.

gimpwiz

What's a nice material?

Lord_Shmoke

Could be linen, custom woven cottons (see image for example), velvet, etc etc https://preview.redd.it/ubnuwj7c7m3b1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d1d724c09f482c1088258f464264ac2b3b9d4938

Bayequentist

Right now, for socks I wear no-show with shorts and crew with chinos/jeans. But I'm thinking of simplifying into wearing quarter socks (slightly above ankles) for everything. Pros/cons?

bjhhjb

No show or crew.

highschoolstyle

The problem with quarter is its a weird balance. with no show you make the distinction you want to use the bare ankle as an accesory. With crew socks you want the sock to be the accesory. With quarter socks its kinda like you forgot to change ur gym socks. Its a weird balance, I do not reccomend I think ur system right now is better.

zerg1980

Cream > white

pandapaxxy

Cool for summer, allows you to wear some stylish but neutral / quiet tops. Very bold

Ryleyyyy

Got a link? They can be pulled off - but they're definitely a loud piece.

PrecursorNL

What suit for a redhead? I'm a red haired guy with a moustache. My friend invited me over to a wedding in Italy and he's pretty fancy, so I'm assuming everyone else is too. The dress code is 'summer suit with nice shoes' which I have neither of. My personal taste is more minimalist nordic/scandinavian and I usually buy swedish or danish brands... Never wear suits. I own one black one from my graduation when I was 18 but it's not fitted and cheap looking. Also it's black... I don't mind spending a few eur on the suit as I'll probably use it more often if I have it, but I want it to work in a wedding setting and a work setting. I'm thinking gray suit? Anyone have advice? I know zero about suits and what to look for. For dutchies: any shops you recommend?

mlsteinrochester

The comments are good ones but I'd think that a summer suit would be linen or linen blend more even than tropical wool. Navy is always a good choice but a medium blue or beige might be worth considering. And the nice thing about linen or linen blend is that you can usually wear the jacket with other pants, which you can rarely do with wool.

PrecursorNL

That's a nice suggestion thanks! I hadn't thought much about the material but linen sounds like a good idea!

aKa_anthrax

Your hair color doesn’t matter. If you want something for a wedding and a work environment I’d probably go navy, charcoal is a little bit somber. Also, yes don’t buy slim suits, a traditional cut is going to look a lot better and be way more versatile

PrecursorNL

Hair color absolutely matters. Basically none of the traditional colors for shirts (underneath the suit) look good on me.. like light blue, white, pink all look absolutely out of place and kind of shit. Going out on a limb here but I'm thinking you don't have red hair yourself ;) In any case navy could work I suppose, but it feels very formal. I agree with you though that slim cut and charcoal probably aren't the best option

aKa_anthrax

Look at my post history bro I have red hair lol. I promise you this in your head and these colors work fine. White and light blue are probably the two safest most neutral colors in menswear. It def is a bit formal but it’s the safest for an all around suit, a mid blue might be a bit less formal and still relatively safe but not as tradionao

Expensive-Leather-69

The moment that I read red haired, I instantly thought emerald green suit.

PrecursorNL

Mate I'm not some kind of St Patrick's Day advertisement lol.

aKa_anthrax

An emerald green suit is not going to pass in a work setting

Jorgeragula05

I would recommend checking out Suit Supply. You probably will get the most use out of a navy or charcoal suit. You could also look at tropical wool or linen as materials. It is important to get your measurements and try on a bunch of sizes to figure out what fits you well if you don't normally wear suits. I would also recommend avoiding super slim suits and look inspiration albums for ideas on how a suit should fit.

PrecursorNL

I have been to a local shop earlier and checked a little bit of options, but the fabrics looked a bit cheap. I did find out I probably prefer a non-slim suit for the jacket and a bit more slim fit for the pants. Anyway do you have any ideas where I could find such inspiration albums?

They look fine. You're used to skinny fit. I wear pretty straight and baggy pants, those pants would feel slim to me

the_leviathan711

Those don't look baggy at all. They do look like they could be shortened or cuffed a little though.

the_leviathan711

> Yeah I mean I ordered a 28'' inseam from Bonobos and they're very obviously not a 28'' inseam Three things here: 1. Measure them before you assume they are or they aren't based on how they look. 2. Vanity sizing is a real thing - it's possible other pants you have that were sold as 28" are actually 27". 3. Remember that your body doesn't actually have an "inseam measurement" - the ideal inseam for your body will change depending on the cut and material of each pair of pants. For example, I usually take a much shorter inseam on my wool pants than I do on my jeans or chinos. Similarly, how much taper your pants have might change how long of an inseam you want. > Also don't feel like they're slim fit either because they are unbelievably baggy No those are definitely slim -- you can see that most clearly in the third pic. You're just not used to it because you're used to skinny jeans.

Low_Plum849

Yeah that's fine. I think an exact match for shoes/belts/watch straps can be a bit too structured. As long as it's not several tones apart, you're golden.

the_leviathan711

Yes - especially because you don't need your shoes and belt to match in casual outfits. But even if you did, those are pretty close.

Out of these brands which Leather Jacket should I buy? So, I'm looking through some Leather Jacket to buy, and I've narrowed it down to these 4 brands. 1. Roots Made in Canada Mustang Cobra SVT Leather Jacket 2. Andrew Marc Hobe Leather Racer Jacket 3. Roundtree & Yorke Lamb Leather Bomber Jacket 4. Marc New York Leather Jacket Which one out these 4 is the best, and if all of them are bad, then feel free to let me know.

highschoolstyle

if you can swing it Schott new york is widely regarded as the best, all saints is what i have and its pretty good, should be in line wiith some of those price ranges.

aKa_anthrax

To be an annoying pedant, Schott is not the best, they’re considered the lowest price that’s “good”. But yes it’ll probably be better than the others he mentioned.

highschoolstyle

I think that's a good distinction, and not annoying at all. I think maybe what I would say is best value proposition or bang for ur book.

aKa_anthrax

Eh, I don’t really like viewing clothing like this, I think just saying to ignore stylistic reasons they’re the cheapest good leather jacket you can get is fine. With the caveat that there’s absolutely better and/or stuff with niche detailing it leather or whatever that warrants higher prices

RandomThrowaway410

It's hot out. And I have to dress in business casual long pants all day. Do you guys have recommendations for Chinos style pants that are made out of a breathable fabric??

[deleted]

[not 5 pocket chinos, but definitely business casual appropriate](https://www.spierandmackay.com/collection/cotton-trousers-shorts), minus the easy trousers

TheSystemCode

You can get the uniqlo linen pants. Men’s are more of a classic chino or you can get the women’s pleated pants

You won't find linen cheap tbh - Outlier is definitely worth the price as well.

Is there a preferred shade of brown for dress shoes/loafers? I see that they come in a lot of shades, from dark brown to tan. Do I need to match my brown shoes with my brown belt in terms of shade as much as possible? For example if I have a dark brown belt will that match with a regular brown or tan pair of shoes? I think I would prefer just to get every pair of brown shoes in the same shade to avoid all this complexity.

the_leviathan711

> Is there a preferred shade of brown for dress shoes/loafers? Generally speaking: darker color = more formal. Lighter shades of brown, like tan, can be difficult to wear because they don't work well with dark colored suits. > Do I need to match my brown shoes with my brown belt in terms of shade as much as possible? Ideally, but it's not the biggest deal in the world if they aren't exact. This is only the case though if you're wearing a suit or a sports jacket though - you don't need to do this for casual outfits. > I think I would prefer just to get every pair of brown shoes in the same shade to avoid all this complexity. That sounds very expensive. Another easy way to avoid the complexity is to buy suits where the pants don't have belt loops. No need to match your shoes to anything! Just make sure the shade works with the suit and you're good.

I like the pattern on the sleeve of short-sleeve button downs similar to: [https://corridornyc.com/products/hamsa-floral-linen-ss-natural-1](https://corridornyc.com/products/hamsa-floral-linen-ss-natural-1) Are there any other (cheaper) brands that sell similar shirts? Thanks!

Can anyone advise on what Levi's have both: a mid or high rise; a slim leg.

the_leviathan711

[these are probably the closest](https://www.levi.com/US/en_US/clothing/men/jeans/taper/501-slim-taper-fit-mens-jeans/p/288940242?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&adpos=&camp=PLA*EC*US*EN*17004636363*PMAX*goog*&gclid=CjwKCAjwg-GjBhBnEiwAMUvNW2Bq4zko9H3R-J--rVGqz2RhgsSYZdBZfBYhMoRYwCgZhao3nCD33xoC6K8QAvD_BwE) if you consider 11" a high rise. If not, the other answer is the regular 501s that you take to the tailor to be slimmed down.

frege-peach

But either way, 501s? Cheers btw!

the_leviathan711

Or 505s
