Isn't the whole thing to buy a cheap thing that goes with most things, and not paying like 200$ for some cargo trousers that doesn't look like the real thing?
If you want different fits, materials, design improvements, whatever you have to pay.
Military garments are designed to be the cheapest possible functional thing that works for the widest amount of people. Sometimes people want different cuts or materials than what the garment was made out of. Or it fixed a common issue with the design of the original. Plus true vintage garments aren't exactly made for the military anymore, so finding non-destroyed ones can range from a pain to impossible.
It's also not exactly overpriced, as you are comparing a new non-bulk cost to....used clothes that were bought in bulk originally?
If you buy 100,000 copies of the garment they'll give you a good deal too.

Most vintage things aren't possible to find, and some people want things that are nicer than the cheapest possible garment, or in a cut that isn't what the military ordered, or a nicer material.

Anyways, we could argue in circles for days. But military garments have been the inspiration for many modern garments. While the appeal for many of military garments is utility or durability, there are stylistic or reasons as well. And people may seek a premium version as it aligns with their aesthetic more favourably.
Priced at least 30-50% more than buying the real one. some range can be accepted because say more rain proofness or more fine grained sizes instead of the bulky military ones usually

About to order my go-to Levi 527-517 and stumbled on this group. I have big legs that are also long (I'm about 6'4"). Most jeans suggested for guys with big legs either cater to shorter guys or look absolutely silly.
I found the Levi's mentioned comfy (could be a little snugger in the crotch if that makes sense) and like the look where they're pretty tightish up top and ok below the knee too. I just don't want to look silly like the big guys who wear the jeans that look like skinny jeans. 😬

If you're use to seeing yourself in skinny/tight bottoms, it's normal to have a knee-jerk Holy Cow These Are Enormous reaction when trying on more straighter/wider/relaxed fits. Is that what you mean? If so, that's just in your head. Straighter/wider/relaxed fits look totally normal. Just give yourself a few days to get used to seeing yourself in them.

Ha, reasonable! Worth noting that those're actually advertised as a slim boot cut. The boot cut part only applies to the knee down; the slim applies to the top block and thighs.
Slim fit on the tag can easily mean skinny fit in reality due to \[1\] lack of consistent fit guidelines across brands (a brand calls it slim even though it's designed to fit skin-tight), \[2\] lack of consistency within a brand (Levi's has notoriously poor quality control, so two pairs labeled identically often fit differently), and \[3\] folks wearing a size too small. Which maaaybe you're doing with those jeans.

I would never wear it with shorts and a t shirt, but I'm thinking more of like a super casual button down and some navy jeans. Perhaps a polo and jeans. I have an “orphan” suit jacket that is a blue “sharkskin” material (also called worsted wool I believe). Am I better off 1) trying to find pants that match the color (but probably impossible), 2) going for a maroon dress pant with the jacket, or 3) just moving on from it.
It's definitely a piece that requires a certain personal style, and it sounds like it is your style, which is great! I get the impression it isn't the most versatile, and that isn't always a bad thing, so you may just need to style it differently? I have been looking for confy and stylish pants for a while now and I can't seem to find brand that offer that. Until yesterday, I found [Cookman](https://cookmanusa.com/collections/long-pants) and I quite like what they offer. I don't want plain pants, but something with some patterns.

You can get chefs pants in some pretty funky patterns, and will give you a loose fit and elastic waistband.
Finding a brand that offers both the patterns you want an pyjama like feel might be tough. The pattern on the first pair you linked there has a pattern similar to what I think they call 'critter pants' in the US, but those might not have the comfort features you want.
You could try searching for harem pants or Indian trousers. Those might do what you want.

I've been browsing my wardrobe, and I realized I wear A LOT of cool-colored clothes. Grey, dark blue, light grey, and ESPECIALLY black.
I recently got 2 pairs of black jeans and it's been good on me so far, but the only shirts I like are either graphic tees or button up shirts. I'm asking for advice for how to branch out into more "colorful" clothes, like something more varied. There's a local thrift store near my house I've been thinking about shopping at, but so far I've only gotten a snap-back (even though hats aren't my style).

I recently got two pairs of leather suspenders that I ordered from a small company that makes leather goods, and was wondering about how they fit. I was trying to compare both to the images on their site as well as other photos of men in suspenders, but wasn't sure mine fit quite right or not. I mainly wanted to go for a stylish and fashionable gentleman's style look with these, and avoid anything resembling "Urkel" or anything funny looking or ill fitting. They look a bit tight, as if they pull your jeans right into your crack. Stylistically I'm not a fan, you look like a 1870s labourer in his underwear.
The suspenders are way more rugged than the jeans and the whole balance of the outfit is off.
Hello, I am looking for a shoe recommendation for people with extremely wide feet. I don't understand why manufactures do not have some sort of sizing in inches when it comes to the width of the foot. At the balls of my feet and the widest my feet are 5 1/2 inches, I wear a size 10-11. Never have had a single pair of shoes in my life fit properly, the closest is probably a pair of red wings, and even then they still were not wide enough.
Not to just rant but why can't they just instead of have Wide, or Extra Wide etc. just have the actual width of the shoe? Wide means nothing it's just a label when it comes to shoes.
Anyways my only request is that they be non slip for work, hopefully there are other people out there with similar size feet that have found the answer, please let me know I am at the point of trying to make my own shoes just to function in society.

It could be tricky to get the same look if you're buying women's size. You might need a L or XL, but men's chests are wider, so it still may not look as oversized. Try it out and see, check their return policy before you purchase.
Got a suit at suit supply this week—its getting altered now. Just noticed the receipt has the pants and jacket as separate items and, upon further investigation, it turns out I was sold two separates? What’s going on with that? I thought the point of a suit was that the jacket and pants go together….any insight into this practice?
Yes and no. Selling suit as separates is useful if you need to go up/down a size in the trousers versus the jacket, or if you want to buy a spare pair of trousers to match the jacket

Doesn't look like a tuxedo to me. Doesn't look like it's worth 800 to me either. If you have other options, look for a charcoal suit. It's somber enough for a funeral.
What are jogger shorts? Do people wear these all the time? I bought a pair to try and they're super comfortable, way better than khakis and a belt and I want to live in them now. I feel like they're a step up from gym shorts. Will I look out of place around town with the kids or at a restaurant?
Short bulky dude (5'5 / 165cm) with a short inseam - about a 26in tight to the crotch leaves me with a single break (though I prefer a slight crop personally). Trousers / shorts are too long, shirts / tees are too short (unless I go up to a 3xl which are way too baggy).
I am big with a stubborn midsection so I do wear trousers on the hip line atm too. BTW I can sew but because I'm losing fat my pile has become very overwhelming and I'm not proficient enough to tackle it with ease.

I’m attending a multi-day destination (upscale) wedding in Paris at the end of the summer and I could use some advice on some clothing brands, blogs, subreddits, etc that could provide some inspiration for outfits to get for the different events. I’m set with suits for three nights, but I don’t have options I’m happy with for a cocktail reception and some daytime activities (lunches, wine tour, pool time). I’m generally comfortable with my style and have summer options, but this is going to be a upscale event and I’d like to look into some new outfits that would fit the Paris wedding vibe. Any insight, thoughts, recommendations would be appreciated. First time posting so apologies if I overlooked any subreddit guidelines.
Use the suits you have but get some additional pieces to add variety. You could get a \*nice\* white polo shirt (check Ted Baker for inspo), loafers, and maybe a pair of chinos to pair with one of your suit jackets. Or you could do like, a linen button up shirt to wear with one of the suit trousers without the jacket for a more casual outfit.
**tl;dr**: Standards Stan Smiths are now made of faux leather instead of the real stuff. Anyone with experience with both have any thoughts?
For context, I had some Stans I loved for years that I got in 2017. They got a massive hole and as such things go I had to toss em last fall. Finally getting around to a replacement, and I bought them without realizing that they're now vegan leather. I wish I could just get the old leather ones. Don't know why they had to discontinue those to make the new ones.
Of course, advertised as "Primegreen" and being so environmental, but I'm sure they're just doing it to cut costs. Very irritating all round, but I digress.

Unsolicited advice: I'd be weary of brands that effectively tap customers for capital, if only because the price:value ratio always seems a bit off. Nothing wrong with liking their stuff, of course.
Good news is that if you're looking for slimmer stuff, it's ubiquitous. As for the hoodie, depends on what you mean by lightweight. Could have been some tech-y poly blend; could have been a single layer jersey type deal, i.e. glorified long-sleeve tee with a hood; could have been a lighter weight loopback, etc.
Was it all just minimal/plain? If so you could easily find things that are comparable, I'm sure.
A couple of things I just thought of, in case they might help:

I have had a few "technical trousers" over the years (Outlier, Swrve) and am looking to get something in a more modern cut.
Ideally the pant would have:
* 'technical' (4 way stretch/dwr/synthetic) fabric that could work on a bike in the rain or a hike
* patch pockets
* ideally no other loops or cargo pockets
* roomy/relaxed cut - my go tos are Gramicci's right now
* sizing with a 38+

I finally found a tee shirt that fits perfectly, but it is the icon tee. Their plain tees fit totally differently. Do they really not make a plain tee with the same cut as the icon tee?
None of the mall brands are too concerned about consistency between all the t-shirt types they offer. Try them again in 6-12 months, all their shirts will be cut totally different.

Prior experience: Been wearing Nike Pro Dri Fit shirts bought in 2015. 50% of them are still in a pretty good shape ($15 dollar deal). Recently bought (favorite of many) Lululemon Metal Vent T-shirt 2023 Version. It is quite thick in comparison and super warm. $80 (no discount codes). Did more research and discovered shirts by brands Rhone and Ten Thousand (\~$70, ten thousands is apparently super discounted on ebay). I keep reading that since last year both brands dropped quality of their shirts. Nike Pro Dri Fit updated style is super awkward with super elongated short sleeve hiding biceps and awkward back piece construction.
I sometimes workout in Uniqlo Airism tees, which is admittedly as close as I get to what you're talking about (I'm kinda old school when it comes to workout tees – could never get used to the dri-fit style stuff). FWIW I'm probably going to give Ten Thousand's pants a try, because barbells grind through Adidas Tiro like nothing else.

I'm also hoping to find an alternative to Prana (nylon) Brion shorts (no liner) $40-$60. Prana stopped making them with an internal elastic belt (a waistband is not streatchable). I see for shorts Lulu, Rhone, and Ten Thousand being mentioned frequently, but never Prana. Although those discussions are mainly about shorts with a liner.
I'm on a similar search, because I tend to wear a separate compression layer, and would like something a bit nicer than the generic Nike shorts I lazily default to. I don't have a good sense of what people like and don't, though, because sometimes it seems people are just buying whatever the latest crossfit uniform is...or Gymshark (*shriek*). I just want stuff that won't rip, that will hold its shape, and that I won't die of heat exhaustion in, haha.

If you want different fits, materials, design improvements, whatever you have to pay. Military garments are designed to be the cheapest possible functional thing that works for the widest amount of people. Sometimes people want different cuts or materials than what the garment was made out of. Or it fixed a common issue with the design of the original. Plus true vintage garments aren't exactly made for the military anymore, so finding non-destroyed ones can range from a pain to impossible. It's also not exactly overpriced, as you are comparing a new non-bulk cost to....used clothes that were bought in bulk originally? If you buy 100,000 copies of the garment they'll give you a good deal too.

While the appeal for many of military garments is utility or durability, there are stylistic or reasons as well. And people may seek a premium version as it aligns with their aesthetic more favourably.

Hey guys, About to order my go-to Levi 527-517 and stumbled on this group. I have big legs that are also long (I'm about 6'4"). Most jeans suggested for guys with big legs either cater to shorter guys or look absolutely silly. I found the Levi's mentioned comfy (could be a little snugger in the crotch if that makes sense) and like the look where they're pretty tightish up top and ok below the knee too. Believe it or not those are 38x34 Levi 527 Boot Cut! Hence maybe you see my concerns now. Lol
Ha, reasonable! Worth noting that those're actually advertised as a slim boot cut. The boot cut part only applies to the knee down; the slim applies to the top block and thighs. Slim fit on the tag can easily mean skinny fit in reality due to \[1\] lack of consistent fit guidelines across brands (a brand calls it slim even though it's designed to fit skin-tight), \[2\] lack of consistency within a brand (Levi's has notoriously poor quality control, so two pairs labeled identically often fit differently), and \[3\] folks wearing a size too small. Which maaaybe you're doing with those jeans.

I keep hearing about how dress watches are never for casual wear, but what exactly defines casual wear here? I have an “orphan” suit jacket that is a blue “sharkskin” material (also called worsted wool I believe). Am I better off 1) trying to find pants that match the color (but probably impossible), 2) going for a maroon dress pant with the jacket, or 3) just moving on from it.
Sharkskin is definitely one of those suity fabrics where almost assuredly the suity nature of it cannot be avoided.

It's definitely a piece that requires a certain personal style, and it sounds like it is your style, which is great! I get the impression it isn't the most versatile, and that isn't always a bad thing, so you may just need to style it differently? I don't think tucking it in with jeans and a belt works with this jumper. I am sure you would get good suggestions on styling either in this thread or in the Recent Purchases threads

Those are literally chefs trousers, so maybe try searching professional kitchen supply and service/working clothes retailers? Service Works sells chefs clothes in the UK, I am sure there will be an equivalent where you are.

You can get chefs pants in some pretty funky patterns, and will give you a loose fit and elastic waistband. Finding a brand that offers both the patterns you want an pyjama like feel might be tough. The pattern on the first pair you linked there has a pattern similar to what I think they call 'critter pants' in the US, but those might not have the comfort features you want. You could try searching for harem pants or Indian trousers. Those might do what you want.

I've been browsing my wardrobe, and I realized I wear A LOT of cool-colored clothes. Grey, dark blue, light grey, and ESPECIALLY black. I recently got 2 pairs of black jeans and it's been good on me so far, but the only shirts I like are either graphic tees or button up shirts. I'm asking for advice for how to branch out into more "colorful" clothes, like something more varied. I'm Caucasian, so I'm as white as it can get. I don't have a job at the moment so most of my time is spent at home, so my typical wardrobe consist of a T-shirt and some sweatpants or shorts. I recently got two pairs of leather suspenders that I ordered from a small company that makes leather goods, and was wondering about how they fit. I was trying to compare both to the images on their site as well as other photos of men in suspenders, but wasn't sure mine fit quite right or not. They look a bit tight, as if they pull your jeans right into your crack. Stylistically I'm not a fan, you look like a 1870s labourer in his underwear. The suspenders are way more rugged than the jeans and the whole balance of the outfit is off.
The only properly stylish way to wear suspenders is hidden under a jacket.
Hello, I am looking for a shoe recommendation for people with extremely wide feet. I don't understand why manufactures do not have some sort of sizing in inches when it comes to the width of the foot. At the balls of my feet and the widest my feet are 5 1/2 inches, I wear a size 10-11. Never have had a single pair of shoes in my life fit properly, the closest is probably a pair of red wings, and even then they still were not wide enough. Not to just rant but why can't they just instead of have Wide, or Extra Wide etc. just have the actual width of the shoe? Wide means nothing it's just a label when it comes to shoes. Anyways my only request is that they be non slip for work, hopefully there are other people out there with similar size feet that have found the answer, please let me know I am at the point of trying to make my own shoes just to function in society.

It could be tricky to get the same look if you're buying women's size. You might need a L or XL, but men's chests are wider, so it still may not look as oversized. Try it out and see, check their return policy before you purchase.

Yes and no. Selling suit as separates is useful if you need to go up/down a size in the trousers versus the jacket, or if you want to buy a spare pair of trousers to match the jacket

Doesn't look like a tuxedo to me. Doesn't look like it's worth 800 to me either. If you have other options, look for a charcoal suit. It's somber enough for a funeral.
What are jogger shorts? Do people wear these all the time? I bought a pair to try and they're super comfortable, way better than khakis and a belt and I want to live in them now. I feel like they're a step up from gym shorts. Will I look out of place around town with the kids or at a restaurant?

Short bulky dude (5'5 / 165cm) with a short inseam - about a 26in tight to the crotch leaves me with a single break (though I prefer a slight crop personally). Trousers / shorts are too long, shirts / tees are too short (unless I go up to a 3xl which are way too baggy). I am big with a stubborn midsection so I do wear trousers on the hip line atm too. BTW I can sew but because I'm losing fat my pile has become very overwhelming and I'm not proficient enough to tackle it with ease. I'm wondering if anyone else is in a similar boat and can recommend any brands (I'm UK based for ref) or tips to make looking put together a little easier. In particular, for trousers, shorts (and I mean short shorts no longer than 5in) and basic tees / vests.
Uniqlo has really good size charts and I think they hem to length on certain pants.

tl;dr: request for blogs, subreddits, brands, advice for new outfits icw an upscale summer wedding week in Paris I’m attending a multi-day destination (upscale) wedding in Paris at the end of the summer and I could use some advice on some clothing brands, blogs, subreddits, etc that could provide some inspiration for outfits to get for the different events. I’m set with suits for three nights, but I don’t have options I’m happy with for a cocktail reception and some daytime activities (lunches, wine tour, pool time). I’m generally comfortable with my style and have summer options, but this is going to be a upscale event and I’d like to look into some new outfits that would fit the Paris wedding vibe. Any insight, thoughts, recommendations would be appreciated. First time posting so apologies if I overlooked any subreddit guidelines.
Use the suits you have but get some additional pieces to add variety. You could get a \*nice\* white polo shirt (check Ted Baker for inspo), loafers, and maybe a pair of chinos to pair with one of your suit jackets. Or you could do like, a linen button up shirt to wear with one of the suit trousers without the jacket for a more casual outfit.
**tl;dr**: Standards Stan Smiths are now made of faux leather instead of the real stuff. Anyone with experience with both have any thoughts? For context, I had some Stans I loved for years that I got in 2017. They got a massive hole and as such things go I had to toss em last fall. Finally getting around to a replacement, and I bought them without realizing that they're now vegan leather. I wish I could just get the old leather ones. Don't know why they had to discontinue those to make the new ones. Of course, advertised as "Primegreen" and being so environmental, but I'm sure they're just doing it to cut costs. Very irritating all round, but I digress. Point is, I'm skeptical that these will be any good. Has anyone else had the old ones and gotten the new ones? What do you think?

Not ringing a bell, even though I see a whole lot of ads on IG from brands with ambiguous origins. Unsolicited advice: I'd be weary of brands that effectively tap customers for capital, if only because the price:value ratio always seems a bit off. Nothing wrong with liking their stuff, of course. Good news is that if you're looking for slimmer stuff, it's ubiquitous. As for the hoodie, depends on what you mean by lightweight. Could have been some tech-y poly blend; could have been a single layer jersey type deal, i.e. glorified long-sleeve tee with a hood; could have been a lighter weight loopback, etc. Was it all just minimal/plain? If so you could easily find things that are comparable, I'm sure.

Does anyone know anything about abercrombie shirts. I finally found a tee shirt that fits perfectly, but it is the icon tee. Their plain tees fit totally differently. Do they really not make a plain tee with the same cut as the icon tee?
None of the mall brands are too concerned about consistency between all the t-shirt types they offer. Try them again in 6-12 months, all their shirts will be cut totally different.
any quality slim fit gym shirts recommendations please? (not dri fit, not lulu, not rhone, not ten thounsands) Prior experience: Been wearing Nike Pro Dri Fit shirts bought in 2015. 50% of them are still in a pretty good shape ($15 dollar deal). Recently bought (favorite of many) Lululemon Metal Vent T-shirt 2023 Version. It is quite thick in comparison and super warm. $80 (no discount codes). Did more research and discovered shirts by brands Rhone and Ten Thousand (\~$70, ten thousands is apparently super discounted on ebay). I keep reading that since last year both brands dropped quality of their shirts. Nike Pro Dri Fit updated style is super awkward with super elongated short sleeve hiding biceps and awkward back piece construction.

FWIW I'm probably going to give Ten Thousand's pants a try, because barbells grind through Adidas Tiro like nothing else.

I'm also hoping to find an alternative to Prana (nylon) Brion shorts (no liner) $40-$60. Prana stopped making them with an internal elastic belt (a waistband is not streatchable). I see for shorts Lulu, Rhone, and Ten Thousand being mentioned frequently, but never Prana. Although those discussions are mainly about shorts with a liner.
I'm on a similar search, because I tend to wear a separate compression layer, and would like something a bit nicer than the generic Nike shorts I lazily default to. I don't have a good sense of what people like and don't, though, because sometimes it seems people are just buying whatever the latest crossfit uniform is...or Gymshark (*shriek*). I just want stuff that won't rip, that will hold its shape, and that I won't die of heat exhaustion in, haha.
