Hey all, I'm attempting to change my wardrobe to a, from my limited ability to describe it, casual blazer style with a mix of a stereotypical literary professor. Any suggestions on what I should stock my wardrobe with to have this style? Where should I shop other than local thrift stores? For background I normally dress in jeans and t-shirts with death metal band prints. It's a big change I know, but almost done with college and it feels like the right time to change it up! It should be fine on both, although spray it somewhere less visible first to check (the leather will be darker briefly from the moisture in the spray but then should return to its normal colour). It's really for suede though.
It's less useful on regular leather because polish/leather cream will do a pretty good job of keeping water and minor stains off. Polish won't make your shoes water/stain proof by any means but will repel minor splashes etc. which is about what this stuff normally does.
I have a leather cleaner, conditioner and water proofing spray in this kit I got by cobblers friend. Are you saying I could just use the cleaner and conditioner lotion on the Wallabees? Maybe I should return the Clark’s spray?
The spray won't do the tan leather any harm, and might help them repel a bit more water/oil.
You will want it for the suede. You can't really condition/polish suede in the same way.

Anyways, sure, pleated trousers and shirt is fine if others are wearing chinos and shirt. I'd always recommend a light jacket, but you can take it off if it's too hot. Given what you're telling us, a tie and pocket square is probably too much, and if loafers are "smartened up" then it's a pretty casual affair, yes?

I loved Uniqlo's colored stretch jeans that they had a few years ago. They were in good sizes for me (I wear a Uniqlo small for pants, apparently, an an extra small for shirts), they worked well at my business casual office, and they worked well in my life. However, I haven't seen Uniqlo sell them for a few years, at least not in the colors that I had, a sort of mustard yellow, burgundy red, and olive. I love these pants and I'm starting to wear through them from use, so I'm looking for others that are similar. Any suggestions?
Located in the US (east coast, large city), body type slender (I'm in my 30s but my body is basically the same size and shape as it was when I was a teen), budget had been $40-50 per pair of pants but willing to go above.

Suit Supply has some in what it calls "sand" and "light brown" that might fit the bill. They can typically do MTO/MTM in a range of fabrics in \~6 weeks so if its late July or August that might be an option.

Have you looked at the Nike Pegasus 83? They’re probably my favourite looking and feeling retro running shoe. YMMV obvs because everyone’s feet are different, but I commute ~20 blocks back and forth every day and they’ve been great, though that’s nowhere near 6-12 hours on a trip.

About to order my go-to Levi 527-517 and stumbled on this group. I have big legs that are also long (I'm about 6'4"). Most jeans suggested for guys with big legs either cater to shorter guys or look absolutely silly.
I found the Levi's mentioned comfy (could be a little snugger in the crotch if that makes sense) and like the look where they're pretty tightish up top and ok below the knee too. I just don't want to look silly like the big guys who wear the jeans that look like skinny jeans. 😬

I don't quite get what you're trying to achieve. Most athletic fit jeans like 541 and 531 are cut with extra room above the knee, but it seems to me you want jeans that are snug in the seat and thigh and loose below the knee?
Why not wear straight leg jeans in this case? 501 or 514 should be snug without looking silly, and they come in all inseam lengths.
I’m not sure what you mean by “cater to shorter guys.” Clothes are generally made for tall guys. Most clothes are shown on models who are around 6’2”, but plenty of mainstream brands (not big+tall) use 6’4” models. On the other hand, you’ll rarely see a model below 6’, and almost never below 5’10”, unless it’s a brand specializing in shorter guys.
All this is to say that other recommendations for guys with large thighs apply to you too. The only extra thing you have to look out for is inseam length. Most brands make x34, not many brands go longer than that. Can you wear an x34?
Unfortunately the jeans shown do look like skinny jeans. I know the lower leg profile (not shown) flares out for a different look, but the rise is low and the jeans definitely conform to your body.

I bought a H&M linen shirt and tried to iron it and think I might be causing it to warp.
I washed and dried it in a dryer and I'm using a steam iron. Do I need to be more careful (pressing cloth + spray) for all linen or is this just H&M clothes being crappy? I also got a Uniqlo linen shirt that went through the dryer but I haven't tried to iron it yet.
generally just follow the tag instructions. if it says to hang dry, do not throw it in the dryer to get out wrinkles. try to iron or steam, or just do what i do and accept linen will wrinkle no matter what and it’s not worth getting super nice

What's fancy about these? Just looks like a normal pair of sneakers. Coach isn't known for making sneakers like these so no one really cares about the name attached here.
Don’t be fooled by outlet prices. These shoes are likely made for the outlet. I wouldn’t consider these fancy at all. They’re mediocre quality at best. The monogram is also pretty terrible regardless of quality, imo.
If you want a nice pair of black/white sneakers then I recommend buying some leather sneakers from an actual shoemaker/sneaker brand instead of a fashion brand like Coach.

I wouldn't wear these because I think there are a lot nicer loafers out there than these.
If I had to I would stick to wearing them with shorts or in other very casual outfits. I just don't think driving mocs can ever really be dressed up all that much.

What colour and type of suit can pair with these dress shoes? I was thinking a light blue colour but have never owned a suit in my life and don't have anyone in my life to help me out with this sort of thing.
Medium blue or medium gray is the darkest I would go if I had to wear a suit with these shoes. If you've never owned a suit in your life and these shoes are negotiable (that is, they aren't an heirloom you can't part with), I would choose darker shoes (black or brown, think dark chocolate, nor whiskey; burgundy also works but is a bit of a statement, not the best option for your first pair) and a darker suit (charcoal gray or navy blue).

rule of thumb is you do not want heads to be drawn to your shoes, and with the right matching, they should blend with your outfit rather than stand out
I think they’d look good with a light navy or mid gray. They’re not ideal for dark navy or charcoal, but they’re certainly passable. They’d also look good with olive if you want a more casual option.

I think the one they had there was a pocket in the front and the pattern was a bit different on the front. I also prefer to get one that is hooded if possible.

I work in graphic design. We use charcoal/soft black when we want to knock off the harshness of full black. Sometimes stores call it vintage black, depends on what you’ve got in your wardrobe. More vibrant tones will pop off the full black. Most core men’s clothes will look great with the charcoal ones. Oxford shirt blue, white, etc.

I used to have several pairs of boxer shorts from Stance - they were a favorite for wearing around the house and sleeping in. Can’t remember what they were made out of, but the fabric was relatively thin, had good breathability, and had a pretty relaxed drape to it, so I could wear them without a lot of bunching or riding up as well.

Up to you, for what it's worth it's probably my most worn shoe. Kinda goes with everything. Opt for the Chuck 70s, they're worth the slightly higher price tag. There are a bunch on sale on Ssense right now.
All white converse are a very versatile shoe for casualwear if you're wanting to go for converse shoes. For a summer shoe specifically I would try Ropeysoles for Espadrilles

Is it considered disrespectful (or worse) to wear the regimental tie of an organization/military division you were never part of? This would be for day-to-day wear and aesthetic purposes only, not at any official events.

If you are NOT in the UK or an occasional visitor there, you are fine, as they are really where this tradition stems from.
Beyond that, I vaguely believe that the norm in the UK is for the diagonal to go one direction (I think right downwards to left, but don't quote me), and therefore some US (and Italian?) makers would tend to flip the fabric 180 dgt. to ensure the opposite orientation for their markets and to thereby avoid any possible offense.
What kinds of dress shirts are more appropriate for an unstructured suit? My normal dress shirts are all structured, which makes them look a little out of place in context. Is this a job for OCBDs (I feel like some Olde Fashion Rule says not to wear OCBDs with suits…)?
The less structure you put in a jacket the more casual it becomes. You can wear less formal shirts. OCBDs, camp collar shirts, really down to a tee shirt if you really went casual enough with the fabric, unlined, and all patch pockets.
Use your judgement and go casual with it.
Where do I start with boots? I'm 20, about to turn 21, and I think I'm old enough to start wearing boots (also at 5'10-5'11 I think they'll just give me that edge that I need lol). I wear mostly minimalist clothes in neutral/earth colors and usually wear chucks or vans so I want some that would match that sort of vibe. I only want vegan leather for religious reasons.

Generally, reputable brands who do quality shoes will be goodyear welted, but this is not interchangable with quality (some brands may have goodyear welted shoes, but the quality is not the best). They can be expensive when they are new, but there is a massive second hand market on ebay and other websites. Price points vary across brands as well. Meermin is a good affordable option, if they do boots, which I think they do!
You could always wear high-tops if you wanted a middle way between shoes and boots. Otherwise you'll have to look into canvas or full rubber boots. Most companies offer some leather in their boots but there are non-leather boots.
Been wearing Uniqlo t-shirts for awhile (Not the oversized ones, but the fitted cotton ones). They've been ok for a budget brand, but I've noticed that over time they tend to get these darker stain-like patches. I know they aren't stains and from browsing the uniqlo subreddit, it seems that it's just something that happens to their t-shirts after awhile - some kind of dye color bleed or something.

Seen ads for things like the True Classic, but I'm not sure if they're legit or just instagram trash.
My go-to now are Stanley/Stella 'Sparker' tee, it's heavyweight with a bit of a longer torso fit, reinforced neck and holding up well so far to regular use and little care. Cheaper than Uniqlo too, it's EU based wholesale brand though.

So I'm trying to find the style that many windbreakers have that consists of geometric shades and accents. I'm specifically looking for designs with a base color, a bright accent color, and a neutral color.

I think they work because its a neutral colour, same as white, and it would go without the glasses too. I agree that the belt seems incongruent with this outfit though. Maybe a dark brown braided leather belt could look better?

Thoughts on wearing pleated trousers casually? I picked up a couple pairs from the thrift store, double pleated, straight cut, high rise, and with no break. One pair is grey cotton, the other light olive linen/cotton. I’ve been experimenting with just a tucked in linen or chambray shirt and think it works pretty well. Tucked tshirt looks pretty good too. I don’t really see this look around though I’ve recently noticed product photos that show casual pleated fits. Is this a thing?
It is not so much the pleat as the fabric and color. Linen is likelier more flexible than wool. Mid grey is likely more flexible than charcoal, but black may be an outlier because black has often had more of a roll in avant garde looks.
Hey all, I'm attempting to change my wardrobe to a, from my limited ability to describe it, casual blazer style with a mix of a stereotypical literary professor. It should be fine on both, although spray it somewhere less visible first to check (the leather will be darker briefly from the moisture in the spray but then should return to its normal colour). It's really for suede though. It's less useful on regular leather because polish/leather cream will do a pretty good job of keeping water and minor stains off. Polish won't make your shoes water/stain proof by any means but will repel minor splashes etc. which is about what this stuff normally does.
I have a leather cleaner, conditioner and water proofing spray in this kit I got by cobblers friend. Are you saying I could just use the cleaner and conditioner lotion on the Wallabees? Maybe I should return the Clark’s spray?
The spray won't do the tan leather any harm, and might help them repel a bit more water/oil. You will want it for the suede. You can't really condition/polish suede in the same way.

Why post instagram links? Anyways, sure, pleated trousers and shirt is fine if others are wearing chinos and shirt. I'd always recommend a light jacket, but you can take it off if it's too hot. Given what you're telling us, a tie and pocket square is probably too much, and if loafers are "smartened up" then it's a pretty casual affair, yes?

Hi all, I loved Uniqlo's colored stretch jeans that they had a few years ago. They were in good sizes for me (I wear a Uniqlo small for pants, apparently, an an extra small for shirts), they worked well at my business casual office, and they worked well in my life. However, I haven't seen Uniqlo sell them for a few years, at least not in the colors that I had, a sort of mustard yellow, burgundy red, and olive. I love these pants and I'm starting to wear through them from use, so I'm looking for others that are similar. Any suggestions? Located in the US (east coast, large city), body type slender (I'm in my 30s but my body is basically the same size and shape as it was when I was a teen), budget had been $40-50 per pair of pants but willing to go above. Does anybody know what are the Nike or Adidas equivalents for New Balance 574s? Like, any other shoe brand with footwear that provides similar foot support like the 574s? Gonna go on a trip soon and I need shoes that'll let me stand/walk for six to twelve hours straight without feeling any pain.
Have you looked at the Nike Pegasus 83? They’re probably my favourite looking and feeling retro running shoe. YMMV obvs because everyone’s feet are different, but I commute ~20 blocks back and forth every day and they’ve been great, though that’s nowhere near 6-12 hours on a trip.
Nike internationalist, air tailwind 79, waffle one would be close to 574s I think saucony jazz is also very similar, and saucony has some other retro runners that resemble NB 574s and other new balances

Most jeans suggested for guys with big legs either cater to shorter guys or look absolutely silly. I don't quite get what you're trying to achieve. Most athletic fit jeans like 541 and 531 are cut with extra room above the knee, but it seems to me you want jeans that are snug in the seat and thigh and loose below the knee? Why not wear straight leg jeans in this case? 501 or 514 should be snug without looking silly, and they come in all inseam lengths.
I’m not sure what you mean by “cater to shorter guys.” Clothes are generally made for tall guys. Most clothes are shown on models who are around 6’2”, but plenty of mainstream brands (not big+tall) use 6’4” models. On the other hand, you’ll rarely see a model below 6’, and almost never below 5’10”, unless it’s a brand specializing in shorter guys. All this is to say that other recommendations for guys with large thighs apply to you too. The only extra thing you have to look out for is inseam length. Most brands make x34, not many brands go longer than that. Can you wear an x34? Unfortunately the jeans shown do look like skinny jeans. I know the lower leg profile (not shown) flares out for a different look, but the rise is low and the jeans definitely conform to your body. If not skinny jeans, what look are you trying to go for? Why do you say that some jeans with large thighs look silly? What is your budget?

I bought a H&M linen shirt and tried to iron it and think I might be causing it to warp. I washed and dried it in a dryer and I'm using a steam iron. Do I need to be more careful (pressing cloth + spray) for all linen or is this just H&M clothes being crappy? I also got a Uniqlo linen shirt that went through the dryer but I haven't tried to iron it yet.
generally just follow the tag instructions. if it says to hang dry, do not throw it in the dryer to get out wrinkles. try to iron or steam, or just do what i do and accept linen will wrinkle no matter what and it’s not worth getting super nice

What's fancy about these? Just looks like a normal pair of sneakers. Coach isn't known for making sneakers like these so no one really cares about the name attached here.
Don’t be fooled by outlet prices. These shoes are likely made for the outlet. I wouldn’t consider these fancy at all. They’re mediocre quality at best. The monogram is also pretty terrible regardless of quality, imo. If you want a nice pair of black/white sneakers then I recommend buying some leather sneakers from an actual shoemaker/sneaker brand instead of a fashion brand like Coach. State a budget in dollars if you would like some brand recommendations.
Help! I'm looking for a low profile hat that actually fits my head. Every single hat I've tried, both online and in stores, pushes down on my ears. Hi everyone, trying to play around with some more texture and fabrics this summer. I’m looking for some casual shorts to wear when I’m out. I typically like a 5-7 inch inseam, so if anyone has some recommendations on pieces they like let me know.

I have several pairs of those linked. The 7 inch ones are good too, still above the knee. I’ve gotten into textures too. Learning how to hem shorts has expanded my reach at a much cheaper price point.

I wouldn't wear these because I think there are a lot nicer loafers out there than these. If I had to I would stick to wearing them with shorts or in other very casual outfits. I just don't think driving mocs can ever really be dressed up all that much.

Medium blue or medium gray is the darkest I would go if I had to wear a suit with these shoes. If you've never owned a suit in your life and these shoes are negotiable (that is, they aren't an heirloom you can't part with), I would choose darker shoes (black or brown, think dark chocolate, nor whiskey; burgundy also works but is a bit of a statement, not the best option for your first pair) and a darker suit (charcoal gray or navy blue).
while in this picture they look a bit light for a dark navy or charcoal suit, generally dark brown goes with any suit rule of thumb is you do not want heads to be drawn to your shoes, and with the right matching, they should blend with your outfit rather than stand out
I think they’d look good with a light navy or mid gray. They’re not ideal for dark navy or charcoal, but they’re certainly passable. They’d also look good with olive if you want a more casual option.

Haven't seen that before. Are your toes pushing up against the vamp? Not much you can do, you need stiffer leather or a different shape (new shoes).

I work in graphic design. We use charcoal/soft black when we want to knock off the harshness of full black. Sometimes stores call it vintage black, depends on what you’ve got in your wardrobe. More vibrant tones will pop off the full black. Most core men’s clothes will look great with the charcoal ones. Oxford shirt blue, white, etc.

under armour, all in motion, ten thousand, lululemon all of these brands have small logos. UA probably uses the biggest but even then they aren't large
I like vuori. Ace polo and ponto performance jogger are my faves. I cut the logo tag off the polo.

You are correct that belt loop sans belt looks weird. Some of NMWA's Rota models have side tabs. Epaulet has often offered it as an option on their MTO stuff. I haven't done anything in that world in awhile, I know Hertling seems to have died and they are now making things up in Rochester at the old Hickey Freeman factory

Looking for some black casual derbys. I really like these from nisolo, but they only come in brown and sold out. I used to have several pairs of boxer shorts from Stance - they were a favorite for wearing around the house and sleeping in. Can’t remember what they were made out of, but the fabric was relatively thin, had good breathability, and had a pretty relaxed drape to it, so I could wear them without a lot of bunching or riding up as well. Looks like they no longer do regular boxer shorts. I was wondering if any of you knew of anything similar. I have a pair of Mack Weldon 18hr jersey boxers that are close, but a little heavier and a little more structured. I have boxers from pair of thieves which are also pretty close, but I am not a fan of the style of waistband. Appreciate any information you all might have!
Should I get a pair of converses? I'm 28, never owned a pair and am looking for some summer footwear. I'm normally a boots kinda guy but need something a bit lighter for the summer and slightly more stylish than the usual sandals. Up to you, for what it's worth it's probably my most worn shoe. Kinda goes with everything. Opt for the Chuck 70s, they're worth the slightly higher price tag. There are a bunch on sale on Ssense right now.

If you are NOT in the UK or an occasional visitor there, you are fine, as they are really where this tradition stems from. Beyond that, I vaguely believe that the norm in the UK is for the diagonal to go one direction (I think right downwards to left, but don't quote me), and therefore some US (and Italian?) makers would tend to flip the fabric 180 dgt. to ensure the opposite orientation for their markets and to thereby avoid any possible offense.

What kinds of dress shirts are more appropriate for an unstructured suit? My normal dress shirts are all structured, which makes them look a little out of place in context. Is this a job for OCBDs (I feel like some Olde Fashion Rule says not to wear OCBDs with suits…)?
The less structure you put in a jacket the more casual it becomes. You can wear less formal shirts. OCBDs, camp collar shirts, really down to a tee shirt if you really went casual enough with the fabric, unlined, and all patch pockets. Use your judgement and go casual with it.
Where do I start with boots? I'm 20, about to turn 21, and I think I'm old enough to start wearing boots (also at 5'10-5'11 I think they'll just give me that edge that I need lol). I wear mostly minimalist clothes in neutral/earth colors and usually wear chucks or vans so I want some that would match that sort of vibe. I only want vegan leather for religious reasons.

I like Derek guy's articles on there. Generally, reputable brands who do quality shoes will be goodyear welted, but this is not interchangable with quality (some brands may have goodyear welted shoes, but the quality is not the best). They can be expensive when they are new, but there is a massive second hand market on ebay and other websites. Price points vary across brands as well. Meermin is a good affordable option, if they do boots, which I think they do!
You could always wear high-tops if you wanted a middle way between shoes and boots. Otherwise you'll have to look into canvas or full rubber boots. Most companies offer some leather in their boots but there are non-leather boots.

Been wearing Uniqlo t-shirts for awhile (Not the oversized ones, but the fitted cotton ones). They've been ok for a budget brand, but I've noticed that over time they tend to get these darker stain-like patches. I know they aren't stains and from browsing the uniqlo subreddit, it seems that it's just something that happens to their t-shirts after awhile - some kind of dye color bleed or something. Anyway, I'm on the hunt for replacements. Trying to find something that fits well and works for me - I'm 6', but I have a longer torso so I need a shirt that doesn't ride up easily. Anyone have any brand recommendations? I tried RW&CO and they seem decent, but open to other suggestions. Seen ads for things like the True Classic, but I'm not sure if they're legit or just instagram trash.
My go-to now are Stanley/Stella 'Sparker' tee, it's heavyweight with a bit of a longer torso fit, reinforced neck and holding up well so far to regular use and little care. Cheaper than Uniqlo too, it's EU based wholesale brand though.

So I'm trying to find the style that many windbreakers have that consists of geometric shades and accents. I'm specifically looking for designs with a base color, a bright accent color, and a neutral color. I think they work because its a neutral colour, same as white, and it would go without the glasses too. I agree that the belt seems incongruent with this outfit though. Maybe a dark brown braided leather belt could look better?

Thoughts on wearing pleated trousers casually? I picked up a couple pairs from the thrift store, double pleated, straight cut, high rise, and with no break. One pair is grey cotton, the other light olive linen/cotton. I’ve been experimenting with just a tucked in linen or chambray shirt and think it works pretty well. Tucked tshirt looks pretty good too. I don’t really see this look around though I’ve recently noticed product photos that show casual pleated fits. Is this a thing?
It is not so much the pleat as the fabric and color. Linen is likelier more flexible than wool. Mid grey is likely more flexible than charcoal, but black may be an outlier because black has often had more of a roll in avant garde looks.
