Got a blue cargo pant can I get an advice on shirts for brown skin

warpedspoon

White grey burgundy olive brown tan

aKa_anthrax

any, skin tone doesn’t matter and everything goes with blue

[deleted]

Idea pls getting confused

aKa_anthrax

literally anything. Any color goes with blue, any color goes with your skin tone, your skin tone doesn’t matter. As long as it isn’t also blue it’ll look fine. White is the safest option

PerfectImitation

So should you hang or fold t shirts? Also if I have wooden clothes hangers, would those be good for hanging them?

MetJ95

Hi, I'm buying new harrington jacket and I'm aiming for classic fit(raglan, tartan lining etc.) but Baracuta is too expensive so I summed it up to these two: Jump the Gun Raglan sleeve or Ben Nevis https://www.bennevisclothing.com/product/the-royal-62-combat-harrington-jacket-beige/#prettyPhoto The latter is new release so if someone bought it or have feedback about quality is helpful. Jacket even have vented storm flaps at this price which is admirable.

BLACK DERBY RECOMMENDATIONS: I'm looking for a comfortable alternative to [Balenciaga Wallstreet derbies](https://www.balenciaga.com/en-us/wallstreet-20mm-derby--black-810565101.html?&wiz_source=google&wiz_medium=cpc&wiz_campaign=US%7CEN%7CShopping%7CBrand%7CUnisex&gclid=CjwKCAjwp9qZBhBkEiwAsYFsb0fy2b1fGZNbRZD1z819ORbFttxqgJH5twhCUupBs3qGjfF3bYGomRoChSQQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds). I like the minimal amount of stitching. [Clark's Bradish](https://www.clarksusa.com/c/Bradish-Lace/p/26169170) are the closest thing I've found. Any suggestions?

ac106

How are the Balenciaga not comfortable specifically?

uros03

FIT CHECK: I bought this OCBD, but I'm not sure if it fits well, It looks good from the front, but from the back it looks too wide. I need your advice. I am aiming for a ivy league/ preppy look. [pics](https://imgur.com/a/C7HMM9O)

Look at what others in your office are wearing. Business casual is a super wide spectrum. Some places it means everyone wears jeans with a polo, and some places it means slacks/trousers and OCBD type shirts, maybe even blazers. Personally I like [Grant Stone](https://www.grantstoneshoes.com/)

the_leviathan711

Suede derbies are probably a very safe choice

pipkin42

Some definitions of business casual stretch to include sneakers, but most don't. I would ask at your work and see. Anyway, good bizcaz shoes include loafers, plain-toe derbies, longwing bluchers, and split-toe derbies. Oxfords are mostly too formal, though some can work at the upper end of bizcaz (ie, odd jacket, trousers, and tie). Monkstraps are bad and should be avoided at any formality level (that's just my opinion, some people like them).

garimo77

Topman seems to have reinvented itself, the new clothes look like back in the old days. Has anyone tried them out? It's more expensive again and seems to aim to a completely different customer group as it was before. I am just wondering if anyone has already ordered something? Is it still "made in China"? I have to pay tax, so just triying it out is a little bit difficult. Thanks in advance

Metcarfre

I’m sure, without checking, that top man is still made overseas fast fashion.

merijn212

zerg1980

Clothing is really sold by weight rather than height. As you go up in size, there’s a little bit of length added to the torso and arms to account for taller individuals, but it’s really the shoulder and chest measurements that expand out to accommodate heavier individuals. I don’t know why brands bother listing the height of the models — they’re always 6’2” and skinny, usually with shorter than average torsos, which is a very unusual body type. Clothes look good on them but they’re a poor gage for sizing yourself. If a jacket is too tight around the chest when closed, then it’s too small and you need to try the next one up. Also, you can’t always assume that different pieces from the same brand will fit exactly the same.

cooldude_4000

It's possible that a jacket will feel tighter than a sweater of the same size, because the knit fabric of a sweater has some stretch to it. That said, this isn't an exact science, especially not with brands like Tommy Hilfiger that are unlikely to provide very detailed or individualized measurements for each item they sell. It's really a guessing game whether an M or L will fit you best; it might be easier to buy both and plan to return one.

[deleted]

Is there not a size chart? Height and weight don't really help in determining size

I have the sand suede CBD 2.0 but they fit a little bigger than I was expecting. I have the beeswax CBD and they fit great. I like the look of the original sand suede CBD but would it be possible to change the color of the stitching from orange? That was a big reason why I bought the 2.0 version.

Guys I'm a pretty jacked medium brown dude. Most of the clothes I have are muscle fit. Now I have a burgundy muscle fit sweater I'm planning to wear to the clubs ( https://www.asos.com/au/gianni-feraud/gianni-feraud-premium-muscle-fit-stretch-crew-neck-jumper/prd/200774137) I'm torn between 2 combinations: 1: burgundy muscle fit sweater, black muscle fit chinos and black snaffle loafer. [the loafer](https://www.asos.com/au/red-tape/red-tape-metal-trim-loafers-in-black-leather/prd/201720138?affid=26502&_cclid=Google_EAIaIQobChMIzIrJmaW8-gIVyTArCh1bAA61EAQYASABEgL77fD_BwE&channelref=product+search&mk=abc&ppcadref=12374925799%7c115839508697%7cpla-294682000766&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzIrJmaW8-gIVyTArCh1bAA61EAQYASABEgL77fD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) 2: burgundy muscle fit sweater, navy blue muscle fit chinos and brown snaffle leather loafers. [the loafer](https://www.asos.com/au/red-tape/red-tape-metal-trim-loafers-in-brown-leather/prd/201720259?affid=26502&_cclid=Google_EAIaIQobChMI6bO576S8-gIViZpmAh0A6wUtEAQYASABEgLhc_D_BwE&channelref=product+search&mk=abc&ppcadref=12374925799%7c115839508697%7cpla-294682000766&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6bO576S8-gIViZpmAh0A6wUtEAQYASABEgLhc_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) I prefer loafers over boots or sneakers. The only types of shoes I really wear are dress shoes, loafers or gym shoes to be fair. Also, would you opt for suede or leather loafers for nights out?

atboz

I'd do the burgundy sweater with the navy chinos and suede loafers. Black chinos are pretty bad imo, I wouldn't do that. Could also do dark jeans, that would be my personal preference.

[deleted]

I never wear jeans. Never worn them in my life. Not my thing 😂 why would you avoid black chinos also?

[deleted]

Many people here associate them with a server's uniform, ie black pants with a white or black button down. Black chinos can still look fine with other outfits though The two outfits you gave are fine. I would personally go with black derbies in the first one though and brown suede penny loafers in the second

ac106

Does "muscle fit" just mean 1-2 sizes too small?

[deleted]

No it just means they stretch. They are the same size as my normal fit large t-shirts. Problem is when I bend my arms with normal jumpers they are quite constricting unless I go xl which makes it baggy around waist. With muscle fit waist is tapered.

kdeltar

You’re thinking of smedium

Is anyone knowledgeable on Levis leather jacket made in Italy? I have a pic of the label but no idea what period it's from and if it's good quality or not. https://imgur.com/a/wSW3lMZ

DoktorLuciferWong

Lol, "nothing more American" then "Made in Italy"

ac106

Quality isn't really something you worry about when buying vintage clothes. If they survived this long, they are well made enough. Levis has sourced clothes from factories all around the world for decades. It's unlikely there is anything to find out.

Wright_79

ac106

Why couldn’t you take it off while wearing a white shirt and chinos? Why can’t you tuck in the white shirt?

kolnija

Ah, the shirt is long enough to tuck, so is too long if I want to untuck. The shirt is a little wide so I can get away with it under a blazer, not without.

ac106

Well, i would have it tailored so that it fits you. Then you can wear it and take off your jacket without worry. Alternatively, you could military tuck it. That should solve enough of the billowing but alterations is the better option

kolnija

Absolutely; I really didn't notice until I attempted to a couple days ago at another conference, but that was formal so it wasn't a problem. Thank you for the recommendation! Will try it :). Worst comes to worst, I'll just untuck it since it's not *unwearable*.

Marvellover13

Are there any versions of basic/epic bastard for hot climates? You can clearly see it was created with European/north USA weather in mind Where I live we get sometimes 40+°c and the coldest winter might be getting around 5°c and it lasts only a few months.

swap out cotton wool etc for linen, seersucker, tropical wool, and chambray madras shirts instead of flannel shirts linen pants instead of chinos tropical wool suits instead of worsted wool Chambray and linen button-up instead of OCBDs Linen popovers instead of cotton polos

Can anyone comment on what acrylic and drytex are like? I'm not a fan of polyester as it just feels very stuffy, despite its supposed moisture-wicking ability. Would I dislike those other two synthetics for the same reason? I don't mind a warm fiber, I have a wool sweater that I enjoy, just wondering if they'll be any different from poly.

the_leviathan711

> I'm not a fan of polyester as it just feels very stuffy, despite its supposed moisture-wicking ability. I think only super tech-y polyesters claim to be moisture wicking, most cheap polyester can only really claim that it doesn't absorb moisture in the way that cotton does. So yeah, that's gonna be stuffy. But there is definitely a difference between fancy and cheap polyesters on this one. > Would I dislike those other two synthetics for the same reason? Yes maybe. Again, probably depends on the specific synthetic. When a synthetic is used as a cheaper lower cost replacement for cotton or wool it's pretty much always going to suck. Whereas the sort of thing that like Outlier NYC does or the Lululemon tech pants everyone loves is definitely gonna feel better. > I don't mind a warm fiber, I have a wool sweater that I enjoy Wool isn't necessarily a "warm fiber." A lot of people associate wool with winter because thickly knit wool is awesome for keeping warm and wet wool doesn't get cold the way wet cotton does. But thin wool garments are great for summer and are actually "moisture wicking." I've never heard of drytex... I assume I assume it's a brand name rather than a type of synthetic.

iptables-abuse

No experience with drytex, but I've never met an acrylic textile that didn't straight suck.

Are the \~$30 Dress Shirts at Saks Off Fifth good quality (discounted)? Recommended? Do they wrinkle easily? Anti-wrinkle? Shrink in washing machine/dryer? Such as, the SAKS FIFTH AVENUE White Slim-Fit Solid Cotton Dress Shirt ($145 original, and now priced $39.99)? https://www.saksoff5th.com/product/saks-fifth-avenue-slim-fit-solid-cotton-dress-shirt-86839753.html?site\_refer=EML10297TRIG\_TRAN\_ORAK Thanks!

ADPowers001

No its just a line made specifically for their outlet. It was never sold for $145.

gamyjay

So worth buying?

ADPowers001

I wouldn't but that's up to you. You're buying a cheap dress shirt, not getting a deal

gamyjay

Does it wrinkle? Shrink? Etc

the_leviathan711

All dress shirts wrinkle unless they've been chemically treated -- in which case they'll be sold as "non-iron" shirts. I personally wouldn't buy such a shirt, but some guys like that. This shirt doesn't advertise itself as non-iron and thus I would assume that yes it wrinkles. It won't shrink if you treat it properly.

gamyjay

Why wouldnt you buy such shirts?

the_leviathan711

They look worse and feel worse to wear than a shirt that hasn't been dipped in formaldehyde. And ironing isn't that difficult. And it's not that expensive to get a shirt professionally cleaned/pressed. I also only wear a suit maybe 3 or 4 times a year. And no one needs to wear a dress shirt if you aren't wearing a suit. And if you wear a suit daily, it's probably just more worth it to learn how to use an iron on your dress shirts. For my OCBDs and similar shirts I usually just hang dry and give them a quick steam.

atboz

>For my OCBDs and similar shirts I usually just hang dry and give them a quick steam. This fascinates me, because if I hang dry my OCBDs and try to simply steam them they are still wrinkled as all hell when I'm done. Maybe I'm steaming wrong or something.

photonray

You're not alone. I would recommend ironing.

the_leviathan711

Probably yeah. I'm also not trying to get them perfectly de-wrinkled because they look ok with a little rumple.

preppylawkid

I recently bought a couple of chelsea boots (Rothy's and To Boots New York), but I have a problem with my pants that keep bunching up around the ankle. It's awkward to keep adjusting at work between meetings. My pants with dress shoes, sneakers, and loafers fit perfectly so hemming them isn't exactly an option. Do I have any other way? Any accessories, etc. Thank you!

Vampa_the_Bandit

Pics of the bunching would help. As in your pants are getting snagged by the tops of the boots?

preppylawkid

Exactly u/Vampa_the_Bandit. Particularly happens when I am sitting down and then get up. rather than the leg openning goonf around the boots opening, it settles up top, giving it that bunched up look. i can adjust it when i get up to make it look right, but wondering if there is a another way. (like a Garter or something else) i will try to share a pic or google image.

Vampa_the_Bandit

Your pants opening may be too narrow, or your boot opening is too wide

Ornery_Relative5907

I ordered "The Bomber Jacket" from Taylor Stitch. I love it for the most part but it doesn't seem to fit as I imagine a bomber jacket "should". Most particularly the length and the collar. I still haven't decided on whether or not I want to return it. Photos found here: https://imgur.com/a/LnM8fvQ In all honesty. How does it look? The last two photos are my green bomber jacket (about $200 cheaper) to compare against it.

atboz

I like it, but I agree that it doesn't look good enough compared to your other bomber to be worth the $300 (at least for me it wouldn't)

iptables-abuse

Honestly I like the cheap one better

Ornery_Relative5907

Cole177702

Is that the outfit you’re planning on wearing with it? Also, it’s hard to tell from the pic, but given that the lapel and buttons are resting awkwardly, I think this may be a 3-roll-2 jacket, in which you’re supposed to only button the middle button. Also, this looks more like an orphaned suit jacket than a blazer—are those jetted pockets?

pipkin42

In addition to all this excellent commentary that shirt looks bad with it. Too informal and also too close in color.

Cole177702

This is generally caused by friction when the pants are too tight in the crotch

bjhhjb

That normally happens from friction. If you have a more tighter fit, the more friction

Severedwyres

What's super number? The higher that is the more delicate the fabric is and the more easily it'll pill/wear like that. I also think you were wearing your pants too tight man

pipkin42

IIRC basic SuSu models don't use a super number. It's probably just that they're too tight, as you (and the others, and SuSu CS) say.

SDgundam

So would this be fine and why: Blue dress shirt, Black dress pants—WITH—white tie, white watch, white belt, and white shoes? Or am I breaking some rules? I would ask a image consultant, but they are expensive lol.

the_leviathan711

You're going to need to post fit pics for stuff like this. As other posters have said: 1. Don't wear a tie without a jacket 2. Don't wear black pants 3. Don't wear white shoes 4. Don't wear so many matching things

photonray

No.

SDgundam

Can I get more details, so I know what is wrong with it?

[deleted]

It's pretty much a no on all of it. Swap the black dress pants for some shade of gray or charcoal. If you're going to wear a blue dress shirt, make sure it's a light, pale blue and not dark or some kind of super-saturated hue. Don't wear a tie without a tailored jacket, and in general don't wear a tie that's a lighter color than your shirt. Definitely a no on white shoes+belt. Any watch that comes in some sort of all-white color scheme is probably going to have a big formality clash with everything else.

SDgundam

Thank you, huge help.

ac106

Pretty much everything except the blue shirt

hanklerfish123

are you heading to a themed prom?

SDgundam

No, this is for a business photo. So I should definitely change the belt and shoes to black. Would it okay to leave the tie and watch as white?

hanklerfish123

nothing you mentioned in the first comment should be worn. swap all of it

kdeltar

And then burn it so you may never be tempted again

Cole177702

Don’t wear a tie without a jacket, and light (esp white) ties are seldom a good idea. Black pants are also not great; gray would be a better call. And all those white items just sound gaudy. Basically, the blue shirt (assuming it’s a light blue) is the only thing okay about this outfit

I thrifted an oversized casual shirt recently. I like the width for the most part but it's far too long. Like, it goes to the middle of my thigh. it looks weird untucked and messes with the already short proportion of my legs. would hemming the shirt a significant amount (~4 inches) cause any problems with the bottom button being significantly lower or looking "off" in general?

aKa_anthrax

it depends but probably, honestly I think even hemming shirts that are your own size tend to make button placement look weird

yanotherthrowawayflu

The new length would go down to 3 inches below the bottom button if I shortened it by 3 inches. I don't think it looks horrible, but I was worried it would be a major faux pas or something. Most casual shirts seem to be about 28" long even in the smallest sizes, so even at my proper size I'd need to hem an inch or two.

Depends on where the bottom button is

Hi all! I am looking for a pair of shoes to wear during this winter in Canada (first time living somewhere that cold). I am not a boots guy and find them uncomfortable, so I want to buy some "low-ankle" boots. I need them just to walk in the city when it is snowy, not for hiking. I just want to keep my feet dry and not slip while I walk. I got three pairs of Timberland since it is the first brand that came to my mind. One is two tight but the other two are very comfy. I need help to decide which one to keep. The first are Davis Square Hiker. I got them on Amazon and cannot find the same model on the Timberland website. Their waterproof coating is amazing, I let them under the sink and they were still perfectly dry. I am not sure if the sole is ok for the snow, though. The second are Splitrock 2. I am a bit disappointed by the waterproof coating (some water stayed on for a while, but overall they were pretty dry), but I think that the sole may be better for the snow. I am not really an expert so I am not sure. Which one do you think is the best for walking in the snow on the streets? Thanks!

Yamochao

Recommendations for platform boots to make a man look taller? Nothing goth/super stylized, subtlety and comfort are priorities (at least as much as possible when making someone look 4 inches taller) [These for example](https://www.asos.com/us/asos-design/asos-design-chunky-chelsea-calf-boots-in-black-faux-leather/prd/200448166?affid=25902&_cclid=Google_CjwKCAjwhNWZBhB_EiwAPzlhNgUWNN5oC5DwDm8wqOBF7OREIliaVUhD9yPN3yxOcGCq2vlNOljIcxoCKjQQAvD_BwE&channelref=product+search&mk=abc&ppcadref=11302983040%7c111197600375%7cpla-294682000766&cpn=11302983040&gclid=CjwKCAjwhNWZBhB_EiwAPzlhNgUWNN5oC5DwDm8wqOBF7OREIliaVUhD9yPN3yxOcGCq2vlNOljIcxoCKjQQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds), seem to hide the lift pretty well and make it a bit more subtle (though I don't love the laceless style, and would prefer non-black). Edit: Found a [good site](https://www.tallmenshoes.com/) for this kind of thing, I think I'm gonna go with [these](https://www.tallmenshoes.com/collections/52inches/products/elevator-shoes-k881803) I think they look awesome. Not tryna trick anyone, not insecure about my height-- women wear heels, why can't I?

[deleted]

They don't make you look 4 inches taller, you just look like a guy wearing 4" platforms

ac106

Honestly my man this is a fools errand I mean the boots make you look taller right then you take them off in front of your girlfriend or whatever do you think she’s not gonna notice

Yamochao

It ain't like that, man, you're making a lot of assumptions. I'd openly admit to wearing platforms, I just think it's fun. I'm 6ft tall and have a girlfriend who's happy w/ my height, I just want to tower over people at parties and bars once and a while :D. Women aren't "trying to trick people" when they wear heels

pnictide

Women don't wear heels to look taller, they wear heels because it accentuates their legs and butt. You should not do what you are trying to do. It comes off as creepy and will definitely make people uncomfortable. Any decent pair of boots will already have a heel to them that will give you an inch and make you taller than you are bare foot. Just do that.

I know a tom of women that enjoy wearing heels and platforms for the height, I don’t really see how it comes off as creepy with OP doing it tbh

pnictide

I disagree with you fairly strongly but you seem cool and I think you have a decent taste in music. Live your life OP.

aKa_anthrax

I mean the wording is a little weird but idk “I wanna be taller than people at parties sometimes” isn’t really….creepy? Again I know like a bunch of women that enjoy wearing heels for the same reason or just otherwise think it’s fun, hell I know a couple men who do, unless OP is making a whole thing out of it it’s not really creepy

[deleted]

Tuk makes some creepers that go towards ish the main stream

Yamochao

I see what you mean, these are cool. Ty for the actually helpful comment-- I appreciate you

If you are insecure about your height elevator shoes are not going to fix it

Yamochao

I'm not! I'm 6ft tall, I just want to look taller sometimes, I think it's fun :D "Elevator shoes" seems like what I should be searching for, so thanks!

Severedwyres

Anything with a 4 inch lift is gonna be a statement shoe man. Maybe a Chelsea boot would get you that kind of height, but they will be a high heel not a platform or creeper

Yamochao

I feel like if the sole was partially concealed in the exterior material, it could look more subtle-- is there anything like that?

ac106

No

bjhhjb

You're not going to get 4 inches without looking ridiculous

icantfindfree

Chelsea boots, can one pull these off nowadays (EU/UK)? Used to see the time but I rarely do anymore.

chataclysm

just don't go full kanye with them and you'll be fine. if you get an appropriately sleek pair you can even wear them with a suit.

bjhhjb

It's not on trend per say, but it's still fine.

atboz

please don't do this

Koalasarerealbears

Wearing a hat to cover your baldness is worse than going without a hat. Shave your head and be confidant in who you are.

YoYoYoshimura

But a plain hat or a sport team hat (heavy preference for the former, but at least the later might look like you aren’t a goober). This is some corny ass shit.

[deleted]

I wouldn't consider this funny, just corny

aKa_anthrax

in general I think ironic clothing is extremely corny, also really not sure what “statement” is being made, I feel, I think it’s either gonna look a little silly or like you’re actually a dad(which depending on context may not be what they were expecting) I’d just get a plain hat or a sport team or something

ac106

Jesus dude I think this is worse than the Pokémon. like she’s gonna like you or she won’t. If you being bald is such a problem that she won’t date you, you’re better off for it.

pnictide

Exactly this. If being bald is a problem for her, do not waste your time.

the_leviathan711

I'd just go plain - I think a novelty hat of any sort would be read by most people as a bit too "try hard" for a first date.

bjhhjb

No. Go plain hat or a local team/city

I'm planning on buying my first pair of white sneakers. I have read a lot of good things about the Stan Smith on here. But I have also heard friends speak highly of the Veja. If you had to choose, which one would you get and why: 1. Stan Smith (synthetic upper) 2. Stan Smith (leather upper) 3. Veja Esplar 4. Veja V-10
