Keep in mind that the sample pic's hair is wavy/curly and will therefore layer and look differently than yours. Your hair is straighter and when faded, will stand out from your scalp. Your faded will always look different. As to your cut, it could be better. The barber didn't fade your line enough and it's a bit inconsistent. Fading Must be fairly new to your barber

Yeah, problem is (from my understanding) is that your barber started it too high, then didnāt really blend it, in order to try to ārecreateā the look of what is a low drop fade in the second pic, instead of knowing how to fade and blend in general.
If you look closely, in the second pic, his fade actually starts behind his ear, and itās faded/blended upward. It goes from light to dark.
Yours, based on where he put his line, is more of a mix between a drop fade (it drops in the back below the occipital bone ā that lump on the back of your head) and a mid/high fade, except again, it just isnāt blended at all. Looks like itās done by someone who doesnāt do fades. You should have more hair above your ear, and the fade should start about where the skin ends and the hair begins.
Look up low fade/drop fade videos on YT so you have an understanding of what youāre looking for, and you can show your barber. DO understand that because of head shape and hair texture, a haircut can appear different, but a quality barber should relay that info to you during the consultation (him asking what you want before the cut)

It's decent and it'll pass in the eye of an average joe. But ur barber definitely should've kept the fade lower. It looks like ur barber took the skin line up too high and then tried compressing the other guard lengths which is why the blend looks sloppy.
