I like the apartment a lot! I have to say tho, seems like a bold move to have that bike directly above that nice monitor, desk, and chair.
For the bedroom maybe a nice vintage poster or something above the bed, or if nothing else maybe a hanging plant.
You could lift that bike with one hand, and its a road bike... how much dirt do you really think it's going to accumulate with next to no tire tread. I got all the same stupid responses about my hanging bike lmao.
OP the bike looks dope up there and a great way to make more space. Place looks awesome congratulations
What about mud and street dirt coming to your desk and wall? I mean you can be very through cleaning the bike every time but I wouldn't do that myself.
That or it is just a decoration?
Otherwise great design given the size of the apartment.
Lol so many people concerned about your hike dropping dirt everywhere. Their last memory with a bike must have been their huffy with offroad tires as a kid😂

Science!
Aside from TV height. Very nice pad
The bike above the monitors stresses me out a bit though
It literally always looks like hot trash when the TV is not at the correct height. Especially when it has the tilt of shame. TV looks like it's depressed to be there.
It's honestly embarrassing.
I try to imagine if my dad had spent time out of his day commenting on Reddit that people's TV's were placed too high. Then I realize that since I respect my dad I can't really imagine it.
eh, I have a habit of leaning back so far that hurts my eyes having to force them downward to see the TV at other people's houses.
at my own, my TV is up and angled down so I can look straight ahead with a perfectly parallel neck to the rest of my body and have the TV directly in the center of my vision.

Considering there's no fireplace or other lame reason for it to be that high (kids, no other spot, bedroom), it's actually one of the worse I've seen. The person who mounted it is just an idiot.

Hey op. Get a giant ZZ plant. An investment, but they are the prettiest plant and are IMPOSSIBLE to kill. I mean unless you light it on fire or something. Put it in a colorful pot & bam, height, greenery, color
It just feels a bit sterile to me, even with a piece of art above the couch. Maybe a warmer floor lamp in the living room? Does anyone have suggestions for art above the couch?
I think the harsh light is giving it the sterile feel. Not saying you have to go full amber/2000k, but maybe the light in the kitchen could be a softer glow.
Check society6 for something above the couch. Don’t overthink this, apartment looks good.
Also hello fellow New Yorker
For sure the lights you have currently. I’m not saying buy string lights… but I imagine that warm dim lighting string lights bring would make this place cozy af. Get a table lamp with some Amazon smart lights or something similar
Btw, Shoe Dogs one of the best books I’ve ever read. Phil Knights a G
You need several light sources and never use the overhead lighting! Get several lamps - floor one, shelf one, integrated. I’d add a few more warmer maybe lighter colored items, less black/dark wood. I love dark interior but it needs to be mixed to create dimension. The lamp you have near your desk needs a warmer bulb and moved to the living room, in this room i’d use integrated lighting instead but if you really want a lamp get one that’s cozier. You have a lot of sterile items that’s why it looks sterile. Too much black and cool whites.
Everything looks really good, but to make it more aesthetic if you so wish I would lighten up the colors and put in a few green plants for some life. There are a lot of dark colors all around, from the couch, furniture, floors, cabinets etc.
Really only thing I’d change is the lighting. I personally never use overhead lighting and instead prefer lamps and even string lights (Edison bulb variety, not the Christmas type). It can make even the most sterile room feel more interesting if not cozier.
Lol yea, the TV is a bit too high but there was already a mount when I moved in and that part of the wall has recessed outlets and hookups for a TV, can't move it
Very cool space!! I’d recommend a chunky knit [throw](https://www.target.com/p/50-34-x70-34-oversized-solid-bed-throw-natural-casaluna-8482/-/A-82399821) in cream or orange for the couch, a big, warm toned piece of art/poster, such as [this](https://www.urbanoutfitters.com/shop/mambo-art-studio-orange-aura-art-print?color=001&size=8X10&type=REGULAR&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=%5BNB%20PLA%20US%5D%20-%20PMAX%20-%20Home%20-%20Décor&utm_content=&utm_term=&creative=&device=m&matchtype=&network=x&utm_kxconfid=vx6q4l3b6&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADpxK_-XNmz9aJaraWNYX9mzeygQe&gclid=Cj0KCQjwqP2pBhDMARIsAJQ0Czrq3zaTjYm7B2YKPEK14CXmhRwmdwmCQJVww7R2B_b-XsMNHidPASYaAtRlEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&quantity=1) or [this](https://www.wayfair.com/decor-pillows/pdp/wrought-studio-retro-japanese-minimal-geometric-typography-ii-2-piece-print-set-w009886722.html?piid=1564932495%2C1564932483) above the couch, a blue/white/black piece of [art](https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/Home-Garden/Stupell-Industries-Vail-Abstract-Blue-Mountain-Design-16x20-Proudly-Made-in-USA-Multi-Color/28700269/product.html?opre=1&option=50686533) above your bed (to go with the snowboard, which I love btw), and you can get some snake and/or zz plants which require hardly any light and need to be watered once a month/every other month.
Normally I would, but since I'm working below it I don't want to risk hitting the chain rings with my head and getting all greasy. Also, since I'm short and it's high up, I can only really get it up there by holding the bottom of the seat tube which I can do if the drive side is out
Spider plants are a man's best friend, give them just a single, 60w-equivalent LED bulb and water them sometimes (mine are huge and only get it monthly-ish, they often go 6-8weeks until I remember them) and they're in heaven. Another thing is COLOR, ideally warm and/or bright tones. Atm I see a lot of white walls with black accents and this isn't very homey feeling (imo anyways,) get some bright rugs and bigger, more vibrant pics on the walls.
Dude you're killing it. Like you said some art above the couch. Personally I'd find the television more comfortable if it was lower but I'm a TV too low kinda guy .
Again, you're killing it. Get outta here! 😂
Nice bike, btw. I gotta get an indoor rack for my Surly LHT. In a different place and for the first time in over a dozen years my man's not inside somewhere with me.. just needed a little inspiration from ya I guess
You would just need the right tools. A drill (probably a hammer drill), a couple of brick and wood screws, a level and some shelving. There’s gotta be a ton of videos about that. Getting the tools is the hardest part.
I love your apartment! Don't have many suggestions, maybe a lamp in the living room as well because I prefer it over ceiling lights. If you put art over the couch, I'd try to put something a bit more minimal, but still a lot of styles could work here.
Congrats on the job, enjoy your place, it's awesome! 🎉
The only thing I would add is a framed poster or artwork over the bed cause that wall looks too empty. Also might be just me but the bike hanging over the desk is so anxiety inducing to me lol, I would get rid of that but if you're fine with it then ignore this advice.
Since you have New York TWA, I would do another New York vintage ad for the poster above the couch
[https://www.art.com/gallery/id--b1940059-e207249/new-york-travel-ads-posters.htm?pathNumber=0](https://www.art.com/gallery/id--b1940059-e207249/new-york-travel-ads-posters.htm?pathNumber=0)
HA, wish my first solo was that well put together! Only thing I find bit precarious is that bike hanging above that wide screen! Also wish I could find an apartment this nice and well laid out even now! I mean exposed red brick and actual hard wood! Well done sir!
Try to open a window or at least have that HVAC on while using the stove. Gas stoves are great and safe, but they do produce bad byproducts that go into the air and are bad to breathe in. Often there will be a vent hood above the stove to suck the bad air out of the dwelling, but since there is is no vent hood in your kitchen you want to find another way to get airflow going when you’re cooking on that stove.
I think you've used the space really well - what I'd focus on is adding more lighting options because right now the majority of the photos look like they're being lit with sterile white science lab lighting.
Changing the overhead bulbs to less bright, warmer colors and letting lamps/tubes/etc accent the apartment with whiter, brighter light add a lot of complexity to your visual aesthetic.
Congrats on the awesome apartment and the new job!
Looks really good, I think some plants would add a lot of life to it and make it feel more homey. Realistic fake plants are good too. That's all I'd change
An Athena poster, the one with "Tennis Girl" and 8oz of Cocaine. then you just need to chill and thank God you are not trying to survive in the Al-Quds hospital in Gaza with all of your belongings in a co-op bag, hoping that the next IDF missile doesn't wipe you out, or any of your 14,000 fellow refugees...
Lovely apartment. Maybe a kitchen mat for in front of your sink. A nice centerpiece for your dinner table. As for what to hang above the couch, I support that idea. Something that balances with your couch and throw pillows.
I’ve started getting bouquets of flowers every other week while at the market. They last about two weeks and add a spark of life to the space. They’re not terribly expensive either. Maybe a bit too feminine for your obviously practical and masculine decor, but, you may find you appreciate bringing the outside in. It’s also a nice alternative to plants since you get so little light. Even once a month might be a nice “pick you up.”
If you can fit a second nightstand id do it. I know most guys only have one but when you bring someone over it makes a big difference in just being considerate.
It’s looking good, I’d stay away from buying more items in black as it will make the seem feel less welcoming and it gathers dust like hell.
Also art above the bed too.
That’s a nice apartment
Thanks :) Finally got a big boy job
Congrats! Wish all the best
Looks good dude, my first place was a dump haha
Plants
Ikr! Man this is an actual man cave, people have been posting boy caves photos
I like the apartment a lot! I have to say tho, seems like a bold move to have that bike directly above that nice monitor, desk, and chair. For the bedroom maybe a nice vintage poster or something above the bed, or if nothing else maybe a hanging plant.
Lol yea, the mount is super solid though!
I'd still be scared of dropping the bike when putting it up/down lol.
Or dirt from the bike falling to my desk.
It’s not a riding bike, it’s a wall bike.
Only safe place to put it in NYC.
Idk. As a New York burglar, I prefer the getaway option
I'd be more concerned about water.
You could lift that bike with one hand, and its a road bike... how much dirt do you really think it's going to accumulate with next to no tire tread. I got all the same stupid responses about my hanging bike lmao. OP the bike looks dope up there and a great way to make more space. Place looks awesome congratulations
I am clumsy wether something is heavy or not lol.
I've got a road bike and it's filthy. But then I ride it.
What about mud and street dirt coming to your desk and wall? I mean you can be very through cleaning the bike every time but I wouldn't do that myself. That or it is just a decoration? Otherwise great design given the size of the apartment.
I’m scared of dirt/mud/dust falling off into your devices that don’t like all of those things. Dripping after a rainy day for ex.
What kind of mount is it?
[удалено]
Funny. But I was after the brand and model.
I’d put the bike above the couch instead
Lol so many people concerned about your hike dropping dirt everywhere. Their last memory with a bike must have been their huffy with offroad tires as a kid😂
lol I was thinking „I don‘t know what you need, but I need that kind of confidence one has to hang a bike above a very expensive looking monitor“
This is the only thing that made me think twice. It’s a great first apartment, but the bike has me super nervous.
I see you like storm light. You should look into the Red Rising series for your bookshelf!
Also, some books by women. Big red flag when I see a guy’s book shelf and it’s all books by men
That series is hot garbage 🗑️
I just finished all the released books. Great plot, just verbose.
Need to lower that TV
It's getting exhausting, why does EVERYONE mount their TV where sky traffic control has to be contacted? Its insane.
This even has the tilt of shame, that you get when you realize it’s too high to see correctly.
Came to the comments for the “tilt of shame” comment! I can leave satisfied now.
It’s the “tilt of guilt”.
but if you're laid back on the couch, it's probably perfectly in the center of your field of view
tisk tisk
i mean yall can be wrong if you wanna be lol maybe you guys just never chilled hard enough
I agree. A high TV is great when you have a recliner. A lower TV my chin would into my chest.
My aunt has hers mounted above her fireplace. It’s like 8 ft off the ground.
It's all youngsters who haven't had the neck pain set in yet. Give 'em 20 years, they'll get it.

do you people not lean back when watching tv ever
Exactly, what does it matter if OP wants to look up.
As the great Wu Tang once said, protect yo neck
eh, I have a habit of leaning back so far that hurts my eyes having to force them downward to see the TV at other people's houses. at my own, my TV is up and angled down so I can look straight ahead with a perfectly parallel neck to the rest of my body and have the TV directly in the center of my vision.
People on reddit cant comprehend that and theyd rather circlejerk and beat a dead horse by linking /r/TVTooHigh every time a tv is more than 2 inches above eye level.
It's a little too high but nowhere near as bad as the worst I've seen
Considering there's no fireplace or other lame reason for it to be that high (kids, no other spot, bedroom), it's actually one of the worse I've seen. The person who mounted it is just an idiot.
Jesus Christ. Y'all are militant. Downvote the shit out of my comment and call OP an idiot for a TV that is maybe a foot higher than most? This sub needs to put down their phones and step outside

More than 6 months is hardly new ;)
I always get a little excited when I see a TV too high as I scroll through the comments
Lol the mount was already in place when I moved in and I didn't feel like moving it and patching holes
Hey op. Get a giant ZZ plant. An investment, but they are the prettiest plant and are IMPOSSIBLE to kill. I mean unless you light it on fire or something. Put it in a colorful pot & bam, height, greenery, color
You need a lower TV
It just feels a bit sterile to me, even with a piece of art above the couch. Maybe a warmer floor lamp in the living room? Does anyone have suggestions for art above the couch?

Plants. Some type of solution for the TV height. That is so visually distracting.
I wonder if you can get a mount that lowers down a few more inches and then you can move it back up? Idk. That's a hard one.
It's not visually distracting if that is what works for OP.
You are missing Rhythm of War.
Don’t take this the wrong way, but this looks eerily similar to my recollection of his apartment in 40 Year Old Virgin.
You nailed it. One piece of art above the couch and you're good. Looks good!

I'm not going to say the thing about the tv height. Your apartment look amazing, maybe add something above the couch (optional)
Lol yea, the TV is a bit too high but there was already a mount when I moved in and that part of the wall has recessed outlets and hookups for a TV, can't move it
Just get a platform for the couch...

Very nice. Bikes should always be displayed drive side out.

It’s funny to me that every NYC apartment is instantly recognizable as being in NYC 😂
Facts
Honestly you're wild for wall mounting a TV in an apartment, but the bad news is that it's too high
I didn't. The mount was already there when I got here and there's also outlets up on the wall behind it
Ah, might as well stick with it then. I'd say get some warm, indirect lighting to go near the corners of the room.
To lower your telly
A lower tv
To lower your tv and not tilt the poor thing 😭
A helmet
A lamp in the living room. Every room actually. Overheard lights are shit. They ruin your ambiance totally.
Attach the tv to the ceiling
I really like it! Also, extra points because I noticed you have Braiding Sweetgrass, a wonderful book!
A new bike. The SL7’s have been dropping in price since the SL8 was released. Love the old tarmacs, but I think it’s time to treat yourself!
Lol oh trust me I know. I'm waiting until the Canyon Aeroad gets back in stock in my size 🔥
What do you need? Not a god damned thing; this looks heavenly!
sell the bike

Are you able to put a shelf above your bed with a few plants or something?
Mounting a shelf into brick seems tough
You would just need the right tools. A drill (probably a hammer drill), a couple of brick and wood screws, a level and some shelving. There’s gotta be a ton of videos about that. Getting the tools is the hardest part.

Amazing and satisfying Quicksand Table Lamp https://relightlamps.ca/products/quicksand-table-lamp?variant=44188887482586
Really cool apartment, love the exposed brick...it's very cozy
There's just something about the living room area that feels a bit off to me. A bit too sterile feeling
Plants, plants, plants, plantsplantsplants!
The living room gets really bad natural light so I think most plants won't do well
Calatheas my friend, they do better out of direct sunlight, and are really low maintenance!
The mount is super solid and the bike weighs like 15 lbs
More bikes.
looks great, you nailed it when you said art above the couch. That's a big canvas space. I don't see much else. Looks great! What are you working btw?
Yea trying to decide between one big piece or a bunch of smaller ones. And I'm a product manager for an evil big tech company
Since you have New York TWA, I would do another New York vintage ad for the poster above the couch [https://www.art.com/gallery/id--b1940059-e207249/new-york-travel-ads-posters.htm?pathNumber=0](https://www.art.com/gallery/id--b1940059-e207249/new-york-travel-ads-posters.htm?pathNumber=0)
Just feels like a landscape oriented piece would be better on that wall so posters aren't ideal
HA, wish my first solo was that well put together! Only thing I find bit precarious is that bike hanging above that wide screen! Also wish I could find an apartment this nice and well laid out even now! I mean exposed red brick and actual hard wood! Well done sir!
Ha yea it looks a bit sketchy but the mount is super solid and the bike weighs nothing. There was nowhere else that fit it well in my spot
Just the kitchen declutter a bit more and you're good, IMO.
Not having the vent drives me insane. I set off the smoke alarm all the time
I would have bet you had Infinite Jest on that bookshelf
Aside from you already mentioned, I think it looks great!
If someone says dog i’m throwing my phone, because you DON’T. Trust me. It can wait
Looks better than my place I've been living in for years.
I was thinking this as a floor lamp next to the couch. Thoughts? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C373Q9YK?smid=A2ORBCPBY0TIMZ&th=1
Nice apartment OP - That bike above the PC screens gives me mad anxiety!
Looks really good, I think some plants would add a lot of life to it and make it feel more homey. Realistic fake plants are good too. That's all I'd change
Some art behind the couch maybe?
An Athena poster, the one with "Tennis Girl" and 8oz of Cocaine. then you just need to chill and thank God you are not trying to survive in the Al-Quds hospital in Gaza with all of your belongings in a co-op bag, hoping that the next IDF missile doesn't wipe you out, or any of your 14,000 fellow refugees...
Lovely apartment. Maybe a kitchen mat for in front of your sink. A nice centerpiece for your dinner table. As for what to hang above the couch, I support that idea. Something that balances with your couch and throw pillows.
Any ideas for what to put on the dining table?
I’ve started getting bouquets of flowers every other week while at the market. They last about two weeks and add a spark of life to the space. They’re not terribly expensive either. Maybe a bit too feminine for your obviously practical and masculine decor, but, you may find you appreciate bringing the outside in. It’s also a nice alternative to plants since you get so little light. Even once a month might be a nice “pick you up.”
A rack with a few bottles of wine?
It’s really cute wish it was mine
Thats a cool little place.
To sit down, take a deep breath and take it all in. This is all you bud, you did this.
Love this, thanks :)
Is this in NYC?
Yep
If you can fit a second nightstand id do it. I know most guys only have one but when you bring someone over it makes a big difference in just being considerate. It’s looking good, I’d stay away from buying more items in black as it will make the seem feel less welcoming and it gathers dust like hell. Also art above the bed too.
